If you’re clever, if they don’t succeed in stealing from you, they will usually find any excuse to quickly finish the massage, asking you to pay whatever price you agreed on or more. Getting your money and values back like Jet Solo does in one of his very good video ( thank you Jet Solo ! ) is to my knowledge very rare. Well, as a Cambodian what I can say is just that - like what they mentioned in the video, use our common sense. If you go to a cheap massage parlor, you might be scammed, but if you go to a nice proper one, this is lesslikely happen. Same when you go around in the city and waving your bag and stuff you might get them snatched too. Because there are still tiny percentage of rotten Cambodian as well. It seems that people in Cambodia do not have a conscience for improvement and can only make excuses. You should listen and make amends. Even though stealing is only a small part, 100 foreigners have their belongings stolen by 1 person Cambodian people should make it even lower. 1000 or 100000 people will have 1 person stolen. It is a lower risk rate. It's true that there are bad people everywhere. But the existence of bad people does not decrease because good people just ignore them. Consciousness should be there. Should work together with tourists. People who come to visit should be happy. Not to sit and be suspicious. It is clear from your words that You see these things as normal. And it's the fault of tourists who aren't careful.
If he comes to find happiness But you have to sit and be suspicious of missing items. He's at home. Or is it better to go to a safer place? Thinking like this is not strange at all. There is no way that Cambodia has as many tourists as Thailand. If you go, you must be afraid of your belongings being stolen. I'd rather stay home and scratch my belly. Go pay instead of being happy, but you have to be careful of thieves.
Bad and good people are living everywhere. Not only in Cambodia. Sometimes poverty can cause many problem. It’s just a simple case. If Cambodia isn’t the safety place, you might not filming and talking freely in the capital.

The main thing is while on tuk tuk make sure you don’t have your belongings easy to reach . People on scooters will reach and grab and gone into traffic . Get money from an atm that is not stand alone but attached to a bank . 2 of the common ones
(1) if you are a tourist, just be a tourist and don't get involve with politic. (2) show some respect to the nation culture and religion. (3) do not abuse the country rule of law. In another word just enjoy your vacation and go home safely to your family.
Been to Cambodia 15 times over 10 yrs and have never had any bad experiences. I have traveled through more than 25 countries around the world. Cambodia is one of the safest places I’ve been.
As the topic about “Trouble”, don’t expect about good comments. How ever, criminals, pick pocket happen all around the world. But, nearly 40 years, I’ve never heard about GTA, big robbery, never had bank robbery, no gun murder, no terrorism. It might not be the safest place, but I do fell safer more and more all around the country. I’ve been to few countries, I see and feel not safe like Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Malaysia. I felt safer in Singapore, Korea & Japan. And I thought US was the safest country in the world. Any way, thank you for your informative videos. Good luck
Thanks for your input ther Kim :) Criminals are everywhere indeed. To be honest if you just watch your stuff Phnom Penh is still a great place to visit. And Cambodia and it's people are great overall :D Thanks for watching 🏆
My phone was snatched a few days ago in Phnom Penh. I was very shocked. The person who snatched my phone drove away passing through the traffic polices and traffic lights. But they didn't do anything. They saw the snatcher but no actions at all. Even when I report to the police station, they don't really want to do anything. The worst thing is I provide them the Find My location history but they don't even look at it. What a shame for Phnom Penh! I don't recommend people to come here and visit. They will never help you. They are always trying to steal and snatch from you. Don't come here.
Curtis doesn’t have a clue. Lived in Cambodia for 4 years. Never once had any issues. No theft. No trouble. No danger. Cambodia people are some of the nicest people I have ever come across but treat them with respect and they will do the same. If you’re out and about being “yobbish”, shouting, thinking you can do what you like.. then there is trouble.
I think he has. Have you lived 4 years in Phnom Penh? If so you know there are a lot of pickpockets and a lot of the massage shops can be dodgy. No offense. All my locals khmer friend are warning me about this problem in Phnom Penh 🙏
@@Chai_Travel Sure have, from 2016 - 2020. Planning on coming back September this year. Yeah, the massage places are dodgy, only take enough money for the massage. But in normal day to day life you wont run into any issues. Also, if its your thing and you take back a girl, don't leave money/valuables laying around.
@@walkingtours02Nah mate... just cause you been fortunate enough to never experience any problems in PP, doesn't mean that they don't exist. On my second day in Cambodia I had a motorbike rider try to snatch my phone while I was sitting down on a bench at the riverside promenade, opposite 7 eleven with a police car parked right across the street! I was lucky because I always stay alert so the thief only managed to smack my phone out of my hand and dropped it on the floor. So the guy kept driving, stopped about 20 meters away, gave me the middle finger and drove off again. I crossed the street and there was a bunch of police officers drinking outside of a bar. I explained what happened to me and they did absolutely nothing. So Phnom Penh is far from safe, imo... and I been to dangerous countries like Colombia and Mexico and never experienced anything like that. Not saying Cambodia is as dangerous as Colombia or Mexico but there are dangers to be aware of.

@@Chai_Travelit's an ironic laugh, that the richer countries are more dangerous than a poor ones with a terrible recent history I find it a bit funny too
Was in Phnom Penn 98 +.- witnessed the first escalator in the city being turned on. The first shopping Mall. Not even Aircon yet. So fun watching the local Cambodians lining up to ride on the escalator. Hilarious
I once paid a shop with a 50k riel note, I thought was a 5k riel note. Right away they told me to much and gave me my change. I feel very safe in Phenom Penh
I think many miss the point. Obviously in every country there are safety concerns especially as a tourist where you tend to have more cash and valuables on you. You are not gonna go in any of these asian countries and leave stuff unattended. But the point is if you cannot go for massage, cannot enjoy bars at night example having more risks of being scammed what's the point of visiting this place then and not a safer city or even better Vietnam and Thailand next to them. Add to that the higher airport fees: Trips from Vietnam/Thailand - Cambodia are double the price for half the distance compared to Thailand - Vietnam.
You can go to those places, but the problem is many guys are sex tourists looking for it expecting to be like Thailand, without realising that the sex industry and massage parlours that offer it are run by criminal gangs that are much worse than their neighbour. Combine that with a higher level of desperation from the woman due to more poverty and you get these problems A decade ago Vietnam had a lot of phone and bag snatching, but as the economy has improved and people's wages have risen poverty has been lowered a lot. And now those crimes aren't common Just my opinion of course
The most dangerous thing in Phnom Penh is the bloody traffic. It it's very hard to walk anywhere as the pavements are always blocked by parked cars, food carts and scooters. This means you have to walk in the road and take your life in your hands. Apart from that, I didn't see petty crime as a terrible problem in Phnom Penh and people are very friendly....
Didn't go to Phnom Penh but did go Siem Reap, had massages at reputable places no problems (common sense, trust your gut, anywhere that is open past 9pm and into the wee hours is obviously a red flag), I am a petit woman and walked around and shopped by myself no issues. As far as illness I would be on the first flight to Bangkok, we were told there is corruption in gov ie police, that said most places in the world do in some way or another
due to the inflation and other problem which cause the rise of snatcher . be careful with ur stuff when u walk along the road or staying in crowd place. especially at night
Last time I been there, I very upset of lost my cammera in the hotel, no one can help me. No blame becasue I used to have same experience more than 15 years ago in Malaysia as well,
So I'm a little confused because I work with Cambodians and I see videos of Cambodia and they always portray it as extremely busy and yet the roads seem kind of calm. What's the story?
I've done everything I shouldn't do according tot his video. Didn't have any issue. Feels very safe to me. Just the occasional scam, but nothing really dangerous.

great video. Cambodia is not as dangerous as people make it out to be. Locals warn others about theft but it's not like you're gonna get stabbed. In NYC, there is more theft for sure. It's just compared to its very safe neighbors, Thailand and Vietnam.

I was just start driving from a guesthouse. i run behind the thieve and catch him. Suddenly surrounded by many people, i hold the thief they said let him go. I explained than they support me. Got my key back. I was followed at night ride my bike, two people followed me on another bike. But i managed to drive to busy place. I saw some activity between locals as well. Knife involved. Big stones involved. I lived a few years in Cambodia. I saw some bad accidents in traffic.

I wish that their pricing are set correctly not using bargain style. Definitely they still want to rip off people or take advantage of those that doesn’t know how to bargain
I got robbed on the first day of my trip by a group of men on the main street of Phnom Penh, fortunately I left most valuable at the hotel. I told the hotel staff and they didn't pay much attention at all, didn't even ask if I'm ok or not. Bad experience for me😮💨
@BicycleForHealth do what you want but I wouldn't avoid a city over a few preventable things. They make littie travel backpacks that have special clasps that aren't easily opened, have tear proof fabric, etc (pacsafe brand, i think). You could also just not bring phone/wallet to a massage and keep massage cash in your shoe.
My wife is Khmer and I have been to the city for a month. I don't feel like it is unsafe. Some of these people are misinformed. The city is improving a lot.
Cambodia a lot of trouble because Covid-19 crisis hits economic 2020-2021, a lot of people lose their job, a hundreds skyscraper in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville on hold and delay until 2022. Cambodia ready to build sky train, fast train, under ground train in 2024 with 4$ billion. a lot of investor come from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan build a hundreds skyscraper in Phnom Penh you know, but Thai news fake to call Cambodia skyscraper build by China 😅😊
I want to visit Phnom Penh but hearing so many stories that there's always someone out to get you is discouraging... Everyone can't be wrong if they're all saying the same thing
Just be aware of your surroundings. Once you leave Phnom Penh you can leave your guards down more :) still I think Phnom Penh is very very safe. Only you need to watch your belongings. There’s hardly any violence and I hope you will go and explore this city :)
I've had a lot of massages in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, in VN we even had some ''sketchy'' ones (some in deep alleyways or sketchy buildings, or places that would offer happy endings) but never once we got robbed or scammed. I do have a habit of asking the hotel or hostel desk what a fair price is, and while I have seen masseuses trying to get a bigger tip, not once did they become hostile or intimidating. Are you saying Cambodia is much less safe to avoid them altogether? I love going to SE Asia especially because a daily massage won't break the bank... I am going to Cambodia en Laos for 5 weeks next year...
I wouldn’t say less says safe but unfortunately theft is happening. I just advise to not bring a lot of money on you and leave your phone at home in a safe just to be on the safe side.
Cambodia is not particularly dangerous. I have been several times and felt 1000 times safer than i did in parts of Colombia. Always baffles me when hearing westerners say its dangerous
Live in Cambodia for 5 years. Petty thefts happen but i have never ever felt unsafe in this country. I have been to some countries where iv felt genuine danger. These people might talk about their stuff getting stolen (which you can expect from a 3rd world country) but none are talking about muggings or genuine violence. Its safe.. for me at least
Hey Champ, i've been watching your latest videos from afar. First comment for quite a while & it's great that you're doing well. What people are saying about Phnom Penh is making me feel it's less safe than say 'Bkk' & wonder why this is the case. More poverty overall, less wages for workers, more people not working etc? Great to catch up, take it easy in Cambodia 😊

I was last there in 2010 and it felt safe at that time. However, trash pickup was not very regular so the entire town smelled a bit unpleasant. I'm wondering if that has changed?
Ey Daniel, it’s a lot better than 2010 but rubbish and littering is still a big problem in the whole of Cambodia I’m afraid. With that been said, it’s still a beautiful country to visit ☺️

Generally and unbiasedly, Phnom Penh is safe.
Stealing is a matter of conscience.
You should fix the problem, not make excuses.
Should create awareness among the nation.
It is not for tourists to try to solve problems unilaterally.
It seems that people in Cambodia do not have a conscience for improvement and can only make excuses.
You should listen and make amends.
Even though stealing is only a small part, 100 foreigners have their belongings stolen by 1 person
Cambodian people should make it even lower.
If he comes to find happiness
But you have to sit and be suspicious of missing items.
@BicycleForHealth people have different experience in each city they visit. I am glad you had good time in Thailand.
As a aussie entering cambodia and wants to extend go on a business visa its a extra 10 dollars but you can extend indefinite basically
Bad and good people are living everywhere. Not only in Cambodia. Sometimes poverty can cause many problem. It’s just a simple case. If Cambodia isn’t the safety place, you might not filming and talking freely in the capital.
Would've loved to have heard the Cambodian perspective to your questions in this vid!

Almost all crimes are Chinese or Vietnamese because they are all over the city so use your brain next time.
Have you ever heard of people being kidnapped for ransom in the Philippine?
I'm from Cambodia. I like this video.
Thanks you ☺️ I’m glad you do ❤️ I’m very happy to be here and the people, food and nature is so beautiful 😍 have a good day
As an Australian who travels there a lot , I find it a safe place but there are things you need to be aware of. The people are friendly and happy
Nicely said :) that’s why I made this video
What things should I be aware of?
The main thing is while on tuk tuk make sure you don’t have your belongings easy to reach . People on scooters will reach and grab and gone into traffic . Get money from an atm that is not stand alone but attached to a bank . 2 of the common ones
@@WillJohns-tr1zt thanks for the reply
(1) if you are a tourist, just be a tourist and don't get involve with politic. (2) show some respect to the nation culture and religion. (3) do not abuse the country rule of law. In another word just enjoy your vacation and go home safely to your family.
I’m Australian but half my family have loved in Cambodia for past 15 years and it’s very safe. Massages are a bit dodge so just do your research
I lived in Phnom Penh for 10 yrs...its safe!!!! There are worse cities in the world...😢
Yes there are. And it’s definitely safe. You just need to be aware of your belongings. Especially at night. Thanks for watching 🙏
I’m sorry to hear that 🙏
Correct, but they also generally don't mess with you like they will in the US and other places. A lot of freedom.
Nice information vlog
Thanks!
Hello, welcome to Cambodia, I am very happy❤️💗🌷👍
Aw thank you ❤️ I’m glad to be hear. Stay happy 😃
Great place people friendly , just be street smart don't be scared you will enjoy it .
You dont have a CLUE... Fooooooool.... As a former officer and prosecutor learning local crime patters is everything for safe travel.... Shut your ignorant mouth.... Your "isolated" experience means NOTHING to me Sis !
I like the last old gentleman
Take care of yourself and ❤ and be careful of everywhere 🙏♥️
Cambodia is one of the Safest coolest and friendliest countrys on the Planet. No Comparison to the caribbean, Mexiko oder part of the states😂 even gernany has more trouble in some areas now. Love it.
I don’t see why that’s funny
@@Chai_Travelit's an ironic laugh, that the richer countries are more dangerous than a poor ones with a terrible recent history
I find it a bit funny too
Great country love it
Traveled here 23 years ago i was alone and only 23 years of age, i had a guide who worked for tje hostel stayed with me for the week
Was in Phnom Penn 98 +.- witnessed the first escalator in the city being turned on. The first shopping Mall. Not even
Aircon yet. So fun watching the local Cambodians lining up to ride on the escalator. Hilarious
I once paid a shop with a 50k riel note, I thought was a 5k riel note. Right away they told me to much and gave me my change. I feel very safe in Phenom Penh
That's what happens most of the time for sure :D The big majority is super honest
Good content , Thanks 😊 🇰🇭😍
Thank you 😊❤️
I think many miss the point. Add to that the higher airport fees:
Trips from Vietnam/Thailand - Cambodia are double the price for half the distance compared to Thailand - Vietnam.
▪️
You can go to those places, but the problem is many guys are sex tourists looking for it expecting to be like Thailand, without realising that the sex industry and massage parlours that offer it are run by criminal gangs that are much worse than their neighbour. Combine that with a higher level of desperation from the woman due to more poverty and you get these problems
A decade ago Vietnam had a lot of phone and bag snatching, but as the economy has improved and people's wages have risen poverty has been lowered a lot. And now those crimes aren't common
Just my opinion of course
Great VDO love the honesty of this VDO🎉
Cheers mate ❤️
Nice information vlog #phnumpenh
As far as illness I would be on the first flight to Bangkok, we were told there is corruption in gov ie police, that said most places in the world do in some way or another
Thanks for sharing your experience :) also we know a little more about you Curious1! 😊 have a beautiful day
Good video thanks .
Glad you enjoyed it
due to the inflation and other problem which cause the rise of snatcher . be careful with ur stuff when u walk along the road or staying in crowd place. especially at night
Thank you for explaining ❤️ we be careful
Not because of inflation. It has always been like this.
Last time I been there, I very upset of lost my cammera in the hotel, no one can help me. No blame becasue I used to have same experience more than 15 years ago in Malaysia as well,
No way?! I’m so sorry to hear that. Hopefully that would never happen again ❤️ thanks for watching
So I'm a little confused because I work with Cambodians and I see videos of Cambodia and they always portray it as extremely busy and yet the roads seem kind of calm. What's the story?
Ow no, it’s not extremely busy. This video was filmed in Phnom Penh.
I've done everything I shouldn't do according tot his video. Didn't have any issue. Feels very safe to me. Just the occasional scam, but nothing really dangerous.
Today PP is fairly safe. Gone are the years when stopping at traffic lights you had your motorbike taken when a gun was put to your head.
🙏
Chai media should do an interview in New York city's Hunts point in South Bronx.
You miss the whole freaking point of the video.. I already F______ know the south bronx foooool... I dont know Cambodia..
I was move from countryside of Cambodia to Phnom Penh City .
as a Cambodian i never lose a thing while my friend lose a lot.
It it possible to arrive to Cambodia ftom china without a onward or a return ticket? I want to stay there for few days then go to Vietnam or thiland after that
The most likely don’t ask for it. But the flight company might request it. And immigration too as it’s officially required 🙏
@Chai_Travel understandable, i have a return ticket from Hanoi to changchun, china in the 30th of January, but no other tickets , only one way to Cambodia, because I don't want to buy tickets while able to travel by bus or car is it possible to show them my ticket from Hanoi to china in Cambodia
How long you stay in Cambodia?
For a good 4 weeks🙏 I really love it here. The people are great. The food is good ❤️🇰🇭
Happy and enjoy your trip in Cambodia tho
Thank you Kim 😁
Best advice “ just go to Thailand “!😊

Good information to know…I will be first time visitor in November…
Nice! Have the best time and stay in touch 😁
People said they like to use a fishing pole to fish your pants through the bars of the window of your hotel.
Better close your windows and make sure they are locked. Or hide your belongings
How PP compares to Siem Reap in terms of safety?
In terms of your belongings. Siem Reap is a lot safer.
@@Chai_TravelThank you. What about Koh Rong, is it as safe as Siem Reap?
I am going very soonto Cambodia.
Koh Rong is very safe. Just don’t leave anything like wallet, phone, laptop exposed, unattended
i would like to recommend you to visit (Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum) or 21 prison to know how Cambodia become what their are todays . Stay safe good luck.
Thank you for the tips 🙏 hopefully we will make it over ❤️
great video. Cambodia is not as dangerous as people make it out to be. Locals warn others about theft but it's not like you're gonna get stabbed. In NYC, there is more theft for sure. It's just compared to its very safe neighbors, Thailand and Vietnam.
Was riding my Motobike at night an one guy run on the street to push me down, i pass him with more speed and drive on the other side.
Once at night thief stole my key out of motobike .
Thanks for sharing your experiences 🙏
I’m Cambodian, as a visitor its doesn’t matter who we are. We need to be cautious within your surroundings. Your safety is very important. I wish that their pricing are set correctly not using bargain style. Definitely they still want to rip off people or take advantage of those that doesn’t know how to bargain
Thank you for your advice ❤️
I got robbed on the first day of my trip by a group of men on the main street of Phnom Penh, fortunately I left most valuable at the hotel. I told the hotel staff and they didn't pay much attention at all, didn't even ask if I'm ok or not. Bad experience for me😮💨
@BicycleForHealthbased on one random story?
@BicycleForHealth do what you want but I wouldn't avoid a city over a few preventable things. They make littie travel backpacks that have special clasps that aren't easily opened, have tear proof fabric, etc (pacsafe brand, i think). You could also just not bring phone/wallet to a massage and keep massage cash in your shoe.
just becareful where you sre going. not all places are easy to trust and safe
Sounds like you just need to use your common sense. I definitely want to visit Cambodia. I've heard endless good things about the country.
That’s it mate. Like everywhere, especially in big cities
The English teachers in Cambodia seem very happy. The English teachers in Vietnam, do not sound happy though.

Ecomic of Cambodia start growth on March 2023.
3$ billion of Phnom Penh international air port under construction, Cambodia will be direct fly in last 2024 no need tranfer at Bangkok anymore.
Siem Reap international air port under construction with 1.5$ billion.
Claimbodia always be lie🤮🤮🤮
i got my backpack stolen there - be careful!
Thanks Jim
By Chinese or Vietnamese because they all over the city.
Love your vids - man on the street, top stuff !
Thanks mate :)
It's much safer than London or Paris.
I think so too

@Chai_Travel aha
I lived in Cambodia 15 months ago… the biggest problem foreigners will have are themselves. Too many vices to indulge in.
Fun fact: police is your best friend in Cambodian
Cambodia is not particularly dangerous. I have been several times and felt 1000 times safer than i did in parts of Colombia. Always baffles me when hearing westerners say its dangerous
Live in Cambodia for 5 years. Petty thefts happen but i have never ever felt unsafe in this country. I have been to some countries where iv felt genuine danger. These people might talk about their stuff getting stolen (which you can expect from a 3rd world country) but none are talking about muggings or genuine violence. Its safe.. for me at least
I agree :)
i traveled all over cambodia and can only say just have common sense and you will be good
Hey Champ, i've been watching your latest videos from afar.
There he his! 😜 yeah I think more poverty and less protection from police I’m afraid 😅
These people stereotype Cambodia. This video is totally unfair to the great people of Cambodia.
No one is stereotyping in this video. Almost everyone is saying to just use common sense. Unfortunately there is a lot of theft in the capital. This video is just making people aware of it so everyone can come to Cambodia without having bad experiences. I love Cambodia and I hope more tourist will visit in the future.

@@itsmepisei8511 but every Travel Influencers I saw on youtube what they do is reviewing and comparing the countries they've been to to tell the adventage and disadvantages to the people that wanted to go travel to those countries they never go because it's their Job!, I think you have to be more open mind when people are talking about the bad things about your country and let's solve that problems as soon as possible!! For me this is called "Fair". And I have to say about Chai, now he travel to Cambodia and Cambodia is beside the country of Thailand So what country do you want him to compare with your country?? Egypt??? Argentina??? Or India???
Listen my friend, Chai is a travel vlogger and when he came to south east asia every traveler just expect that atleast every countries around here should be similar because it's just the next country from Thailand where he have been living so he compared Cambodia to Thailand and he just talking about "how safe!!!" and this topic is the most important for any tourists and it's really make sense to compare!!! and for me I think it's a little rude to tell the famous travel influencers to did this and not did that like a child. and while he talking about safety in your country?? just felt like the communist country because no respectful in the vibe even in the youtube comment section.
And the most weird thing was you seems really care about your country look but did not seems to care about the problems in your country. That's really weird for me.
Now I understand why all of the foreigners in the video were just talking about thief, steal, and really want to go out from the country.
tell people to open mind not to compare????
Better solve the problem in your country first my friend, believe me.
