Playground across from Wat Phnom brought me back a lot of memories back to the early 60s as my parent brought us to play there all the time. The fruit bats on the trees were also there then with some wild monkeys playing around. Your exercise at the riverfront is killing me as I'm watching you. PP City was so peaceful then before the civil war started in 1970 with a few cars and a lot of mopeds and bicycles. I had to leave the country after surviving the genocide in late 1979 but most of my family members did not survive. I've returned to visit the country every year for the last ten years since my retirement and I agreed with you the US has become very expensive to live. I'll return in a few months to see my only surviving sister who still lives there. Thanks for sharing this to the world about Cambodia as the country has changed so much since I left. Happy travels and stay safe from Minnesota!
Great video. Next time i go to PP i'll check out the wat and market. The banh mi are 2500(65 cents) in siem reap but the bread is average and the fillers less than yours but its tasty and affordable for all..
Hey I would like to appreciate your adventure in Cambodia to show other people out there that Cambodia is a country that is affordable for majority of people/tourist. Thanks for visiting and stay safe.

Good for you brother. Then me as a Cambodian I can spend as $3 a day or some factory worker some can't be spending up to $3 a day. Good challenge ❤️❤️ ( subscribed 😆)
We just got back from Cambodia last week and I admired you for well managed your money through out the day. They changed me $1.25 per coconut 😂 and I am Cambodian. Anyway great video and thanks you for visiting Cambodia. It was fun for us too. Now I want to go back to do that $5 challenge haha
Hi Sir, new to yr channel..jt to compare living standard in Cambodia vs SG where I belong....$5 USD r jt enough for breakfast plus a small bottle of water seen in yr blog... period... really envy yr life style there👍😲🙏

I'm planning to spend a considerable amount of time working in Phnom Penh very soon. Are cellphones cheap there and to get a local service plan or should I unlock the google pixel 7 I have now in the States with T-Mobile and use that with a local service plan instead? Thanks to anyone who can help with the info - -cheers!
I buy 30GB for $5 per month. Mobile service prices are shockingly cheap here. Always have a fully-unlocked phone. If yours isn't unlocked from the factory, I'd consider a new phone.
Ok i agree you need to know the good cheap places before going around PP.. I DID EXACTLY THE SAME JOURNEY AROUND PP , EVEN EVERY DAY AS I WAS LIVING IN PP ... EVEN GOT A FEW FRUITS FOR FREE...BUT THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE TO ADD... WHATCH OUT WITH YOUR TELEPHONE...5 TIMES IN 10 YEARS , I GOT MY TELEPHONE STOLLEN ALONG THE RIVERSIDE KIDS ARE LIKE MAGICIANS AND CAN DO IT SO EASILY... EVEN IF YOU ARE VERY CAREFULL , IT'S LIKE MAGIC...YOUR PHONE WILL VANISH... ADVICE : NEVER GO ALONG THE RIVER WITH PHONE, TABLET, OR TOO MUCH MONEY ON YOURSELF... AND ENJOY !
Do you spend more money in PP than you did in Thailand? Alcohol in Thailand is much more expensive. Electric is less in Thailand, but in the last year or so my electric bill is up 40% and I use the same amount of energy. Still my electric bill is around 1,000 baht. Six years ago it was 500 baht. I'm in Mexico now and electric and beer is very cheap. But, I'm going to go to Cambodia for a year in August. I like their one year multiple entry visa program. The USD is down over 10% to the MX Peso because of sleepy Joe and his border policy. My Mexican neighbor works for a US company and gets paid in dollars, he is getting killed. I can absorb it, my kids are grown up. He has a wife, two children and it affects him more.
Yeah, definitely paying more here. Was paying less than the $.30 per unit than I am now for electricity. Also, a decent condo is more than Bangkok by a long shot. On top of that, all manufactured goods are REALLY expensive here, because they're all imported and taxed, whereas Thailand makes almost everything, from microwaves to cars, soquite a bit cheaper. Cars cost much, much more here, electronics about 25% more, and motorcycles are much more expensive. Was looking at buying a new PCX here in Cambo, it they were $4,000, as opposed to 84,000 baht in Thailand. Yeah, things are expensive here.
@@SecondLifeTravels1 Bummer! I am moving there because I'm on a 6 month tourist visa in Mexico and I have to leave for a week or two to another country every 6 months. Those trips cost me around $2K plus each trip minimum, so $4K plus every 12 months. To get a residence visa here you need a monthly income of $2,700 a month coming in. My income is $2,500 a month. So I think although Cambodia is more expensive, in the long run I think I will spend the same amount or less in a year and not have to jump on a plane to El Salvador or Belize or Costa Rica, etc...All of these places have become very expensive. I went to El Salvador 4 months ago and I spent $3K in total and I was not living it up. I can't stay in hostels, even when I was young I didn't like them. Travel throughout SE Asia is a lot less expensive than Central America and more convenient. Most trips out of Puerto Vallarta stop in Mexico city for hours. It's a pain in the A$$
