A great deal of interesting insights. I totally agree with the comparisons between Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam having worked in all countries. If the relationship progresses into marriage you can kiss good buy to any potential savings,
I do think that dating Vietnam and Cambodia are better than Thailand. I think generally, the people are more solid, and the women are often looking to marry. Secondly they don't want to have relationships with western guys because of the stigma attached. From my network of western male friends who have married Asian women their wives generally come from poor families in the countryside. To illustrate this at a personal level, I once dated a Vietnamese lecturer at a private international university her income was 20 m vnd per month but she had to give half of this to her family and she told me if we were to get married, I would have to pay for all the wedding give her parents 100 m vnd. Depends on the need for a specific institution, so yes, for sure, but it's also a very small market, so getting people to fill spots is definitely going to be easier for them. Whereas Vietnam is an enormous market and demand far surpasses supply. Cambodia is a very small market
I spent 5 months traveling around Cambodia back in 2009. Many people there have PTSD. Their educated class was heavily killed off. It is my belief that Narcissistic behavior can be caused by extreme trauma in childhood. Many of those people experienced extreme trauma seeing family members murdered and may have been injured themselves. I doubt people there have had the opportunity for counseling.
I’m presently in Cambodia and I wouldn’t teach again in any school here. The kids are way behind and that’s because the schools are just businesses and they don’t focus on education, just making money and as you say, they look at credentials at all; I’m working remotely now and do my own thing as the visas are easier here. For serious teaching go somewhere like China/Japan/Singapore/ proper places where they will accept you
Now I know these foreigners teachers are scary not as we expected🫨 I heard the word “money” every second😤 They also talk shit about our kids. Instead of finding a way to guide our kids they said “our kids are far behind” it’s the reason we send them to ur school. They don’t deserve to be a Teacher and teaching our kids. Get out! We don’t need you hungry evil.
Great video! Do you any advices about thailand? Im a korean national thats been teaching english in a korean hagon for 10 years.. im starting out an online teaching business, but want more customers, so i thought of getting a tefl certificate in thailand but getting cold feet after the vid. The course i was looking at is SEE in chaing mai for 1300 usd.
I'd never spend that much on a course that's laughable. You can get an online tefl foriel $20. Thailand pay is low, and it's saturated with teachers, but it's a nice country. I'd never spend that much on a tefl course, though. Msot employers care about your nationality, and if you have a degree they no one will care if your tefl costs $20 or $2k
@rebornabroad thanks for the fast reply. I want to try your consultation, but im not sure if you can help me for my rather unique situation.. the summary is that I'm starting an online english tutoring network that targets Korean expat families living around south east asia. My niche is that I want use korean and english fluently, while also understanding the struggles of korean students living overseas. Would you be able to help me get a realistic view of the education market?
Hi and thanks for your great content and candor. 55 year old business development/sales professional without a degree or tefl. Y’all mentioned in this video how some Asians are prejudiced about what an English teacher should look like. If I’m half black and American. Are there certain countries to avoid in that regard? Great video 🙏🏼
In Vietnam, they pay more but tend to he more racist than being said. Your American. You have one of the strongest passports on earth. You will be fine. It's much, much worse for non white people from developing countries. If you're from Africa or the Middle East, it can be really hard not to get fucked around or abused unless they get lucky and someone is open minded. A lot of times, it's not the employers per se. It's often time for parents who may have never even met a foreigner before. These countries are much more nationalistic and homogeneous compared to a place like America where we have multiculturalism and legal rights for minorities ect. It's a different mindset. Don't let it worry you. You will be ok and if you have documents even better. If you'd like to work with us for consulting or employment contacts, contact me on the Facebook fan page or any contact information in the description below. I can definitely help you take the risk out of finding employment. 🙏🏻

Sounds like a recruiting agency to me. You will get a job for sure, but there will be a fee. My advise is come to Cambodia with a resume and go to every school in the area and submit your resume. You will get a job, without any fees. Worked for me.
This is perfect a lot of other videos, sugar coat teaching English in Cambodia. If you want to teach English in Cambodia please be prepared to work hard. It’s not easy by any means minimum 10 hour shift at the school, as well as tasks you may need to do in the evening. And as he says there is a lot of ego and competition between the expat teachers.
Legit is a flexible word here. I can get you a job in Vietnam without a degree, depending on your nationality. If you'd like to discuss this, you can reach me on the Facebook fan page in the description.
I'm going to be 70 years old later this year, however I am fit and no one ever guesses my age as being what it is. I have been in Cambodia before and I am thinking of going to back to basically live there, but I would also like to be doing something with my time. I would like teaching English as I had experience teaching Korean students in the Philippines for about several months. I have a B A and a TEFL. I have a feeling my age even though I don't look it, may be a hindrance and I may be wasting my time. Vietnam sounds better, or would it be easier to get a job in Cambodia Any thoughts, I would appreciate it.
You won't be able to get a work permit in Vietnam over 60, so we'd have to do an investment visa than have you just teach one on ones. In Cambodia, there isn't an age restriction on work permits. We can put you into a network of employment, visa, and real-estate contacts. Feel free to reach me on the Facebook fan page if that's of value
I am really happy it was helpful. If you'd like to work with us, please feel free to pm me on the Facebook fan page, and I can help you get established from start to finish. We can have someone pick you up at the airport and find you under market rentals. I have email lists for hr people. We have a network in place for you before you even land.
What do you think is easier? I don’t have a degree but i have teaching experience in America. Do you think I could land a job in Thailand or just Cambodia ? Also I have a tattoo on my hand but i feel I can cover it in various ways. Do you think the tattoo will hold me back ?
Mostly English teaching, but my network for visa support, business consulting, and real estate may know of other opportunities. So when you are in our network, you will know a lot of people in various segments of business and government. If you speak more than one European language, I have contacts for crypto sales, but they want European language native speakers who also speak English, not English, by itself. Once someone pays out the consulting fee, we plug them into a large network so for sure opportunities present themselves
Good day. I would like to inquire some information about teaching in Vietnam. Currently I'm teaching at Phonm Penh. I am a South African. Is there a way I can contact you. Kind regards.
There is a handful of international schools that pay well but will want a lot of work out of you. Most jobs, if you are a native speaker, you can expect around 1k usd to 1.5k teaching is better in Vietnam. We can line you up there as well. 1500usd to over 2k usd is possible in Vietnam. My friend has a masters degree, and the khmer couldn't care less he still gets 1500usd. Cambodia is more situated. I can line you up in China also if money is a priority, but I find Vietnam is a good compromise of lifestyle and money
@@rebornabroad Thanks for the reply. I haven't looked at Vietnam because I don't have a bachelor's degree for the visa requirements, hence why I am looking at Cambodia but it's very mixed reviews. I'm a new teacher also, I have about ten hours of classroom experience but obviously a CELTA is pretty well recognised.
It is after all a low-cost, relatively laid-back and small country and capital city albeit fast developing whereby price and appearances trumps true quality..and the predominant demand is for low to mid tier range affordability types.. culturally, Cambodia could also be different from North-east Asia with it’s perhaps more relaxed attitudes towards education. The market is also pretty small and less able to afford like that of NEA and the Gulf states…pay less, expects less
Less pay even than Viet Nam if we are talking about teaching. PP gets a lot of NGO workers who are very high paid. Consulate workers and wealthy Chinese. There is definitely money there. Depends on the circles you move in. It's a small market, yes, but also means access is easier. It's harder in larger markets to network. Cambodia, you can meet powerful people far easier than Thailand or Vietnam, let alone Northeast Asia. Also, foreigners can own businesses, and visas are straightforward. There is a strong entrepreneurial culture in Cambodia among locals and expats. If you like laid back, nice people, less nationalistic with a pretty open economy It's not the worst place to be.
👍 True, friendly, small closer knit community..not the best pay but perhaps also on the lower cost spectrum in a rather inviting setting…not the worst place to be indeed! Thanks for the info and education …I might visit Cambodia primarily PP & SR to consider as part of my retirement destinations soon

A public school you can easily get 1800 with even cover shifts you can get over 2k. I know a lot of people getting over 2k. My guess is you're a South African. Yes, probably no one YOU know is getting it, but Americans and Brite definitely are. I know people getting 550k an hour. Up in Hanoi more. So remember, just because you have a crappy passport and make no money doesn't mean everyone does. My wife was getting over 2k working at a public school. SA are considered low-budget white people. I haven't completed my bachelor in English, but I do have a really firm grasp on the language. Initially, I was hoping for Vietnam but from what I've heard it's nearly impossible without a BA. Thanks!
Non native no degree. It's possible but pay will be low. Treatment may not be very good. Depends on what's around and if they need somebody on the spot. It's easier than Vietnam for paperwork but lower pay and higher cost of living.
Hello. Im moving to Cambodia for school.. I'm an American 53,The course is a month and the school is in seam reap... Am I hearing your correct that after my course you can help me find a job.. Maybe in Vietnam..?? I would love to hear from you please

You'll be crossing a border every 90 days, and the government has been checking accommodation more often, asking why someone on a tourist visa has a 6 month lease. From a tax perspective, they are making being able to pay you more difficult, but one on ones would be impossible to really manage. It's not really a responsible way to live, but why bother even without a degree there are ways we can get you a work permit.

Vietnam officially requires a degree, but there are workarounds. Cambodia doesn't. Cambodia pay is around 30% less, and it's more expensive. Vietnam is a huge market. Cambodia is a small country.
If you have a strong nationality US, UK, Australia, EU, etc. You can reach me on the Facebook fab page. Wr Can help with teaching employment if you have nationality not considered native speakers I can't.
Of course not, but all sex pats you see in the river side are old. It's not a cliche the stereotype exists for a reason. They are people who have to pay. Now, old people who are fit and live functional lifestyles don't hang around riverside. So what can I say. If the shoe fits, wear it. If not, don't. Of course, not all older people are sex tourists. No people are all one thing.
What credentials are they lookin for at an accredited - international school? Reborn the talk is fresh and real. Is in Uncle Hollywood in Cambodia these days?
Hey, it is still in Vietnam. Cambodia has no requirements, so it's a bit flooded. Pay is lower, and treatment is definitely worse, but paperwork is easier.
Even a totally unqualified clown with no degree can get $18 an hour and up in a public school in one of the cheapest countries in the world. So just because YOU didn't know how to make it work doesn't mean it's not a good deal for someone else.
Dude i know how to make it work, it doesn't matter if it's $18, $19 or $22 an hour. As i said in my comment it's not something i would advise somebody to do unless they are really desperate, it's just not worth all the hassle involved.

I wouldn't say that more of a business man with a niche
As always i appreciate the no bs truth. When he said he lived frugally and was able to pocket a grand a month, thats about what I was hoping for. Still excited to get my tefl and come, just had to temper my expectations a bit.
In Vietnam, you can save more as salaries are higher. In Saigon, housing is more than PP, but everything else is cheaper
@@rebornabroad No degree

ACE? Right. Maybe you can get them to sponsor the next one. Lots of opportunities but you have to have a CELTA.

Excellent video. Really appreciate the info.
Glad you enjoyed

Diamond Island is the area. It's a planned area very nice but not lots of businesses. It's goof if you drive or get a lot of delivery. It's central, though, so in a tuk tuk, you can get around. I prefer bkk 3 or bkk2
Do part time teaching jobs exist in Phnom Penh? Around 15 hours a week?
Or is it all full time?
Depends on the need for a specific institution, so yes, for sure, but it's also a very small market, so getting people to fill spots is definitely going to be easier for them. Whereas Vietnam is an enormous market and demand far surpasses supply. Cambodia is a very small market
@@rebornabroadwould you stand any chance of employement with just a TEFL?
I spent 5 months traveling around Cambodia back in 2009. Many people there have PTSD. Their educated class was heavily killed off. It is my belief that Narcissistic behavior can be caused by extreme trauma in childhood. Many of those people experienced extreme trauma seeing family members murdered and may have been injured themselves. I doubt people there have had the opportunity for counseling.
Very informative
Thanks
I’m presently in Cambodia and I wouldn’t teach again in any school here. The kids are way behind and that’s because the schools are just businesses and they don’t focus on education, just making money and as you say, they look at credentials at all; I’m working remotely now and do my own thing as the visas are easier here. For serious teaching go somewhere like China/Japan/Singapore/ proper places where they will accept you
Vietnam is the same, but you can make very good money hy just planning the game.
@@rebornabroad I heard Vietnam is better paid than Cambodia and having worked in China, China is much better than Cambodia except the visa system
Much better. Cambodia is saturated like Thailand, so for sure, there are jobs, but you won't get paid a lot or treated as well.
@@rebornabroad Yes and they don’t seem to care about the teachers in Cambodia, just money making as you say
Love it

Hi and thanks for your great content and candor. 55 year old business development/sales professional without a degree or tefl. good video guys. the truth is... society as a whole needs education but teaching is one of the professions with the lowest salary. go figured!
I'm not so surprised. It is weird the difference in investment in Vietnam vs. Cambodia around education. So close but very different mindset
@@rebornabroad .... not much difference here in the USA or the western hemisphere. that's why we are short of teachers.
@@rebornabroad wow, that’s an awesome response! appreciate you providing a thorough explanation of the situation. I want people to have a good perception of who am and focus on whether I’m competent or not. You’ve given me more confidence about being an American.

Sounds like a recruiting agency to me. You will get a job for sure, but there will be a fee. My advise is come to Cambodia with a resume and go to every school in the area and submit your resume. You will get a job, without any fees. Worked for me.
Pretty much hits the nail this video.

Great video. Excellent description of the educational scene there.
Couldn't agree more
This is perfect a lot of other videos, sugar coat teaching English in Cambodia. If you want to teach English in Cambodia please be prepared to work hard. It’s not easy by any means minimum 10 hour shift at the school, as well as tasks you may need to do in the evening. And as he says there is a lot of ego and competition between the expat teachers.
💯 we always try and paint a realistic picture for our clients. Same in Viet Nam just much higher salaries.
Is there any legit way I can teach in Vietnam or Thailand without a college degree, or is Cambodia my only option?
Legit is a flexible word here. I can get you a job in Vietnam without a degree, depending on your nationality. If you'd like to discuss this, you can reach me on the Facebook fan page in the description.
@@rebornabroadI am also interested in this. May I message you on FB as well?
@@rebornabroad that sounds interesting that may work, if you think it will work? It would certainly be worth your fee if you can help me with that.

We do hourly consulting. If you'd like to set a time to talk, can pm me on the fb fan page. I'd be happy to break down the industry in both countries
Do you only help with English teaching jobs or other types of employment?
Mostly English teaching, but my network for visa support, business consulting, and real estate may know of other opportunities. So when you are in our network, you will know a lot of people in various segments of business and government. If you speak more than one European language, I have contacts for crypto sales, but they want European language native speakers who also speak English, not English, by itself. Once someone pays out the consulting fee, we plug them into a large network so for sure opportunities present themselves

I have a CELTA. What can I expect on an attempt to teach here coming from Scotland, UK?
Can you teach from America remotely to start
No
It is after all a low-cost, relatively laid-back and small country and capital city albeit fast developing whereby price and appearances trumps true quality..and the predominant demand is for low to mid tier range affordability types.. culturally, Cambodia could also be different from North-east Asia with it’s perhaps more relaxed attitudes towards education.

Been in Vietnam 6years and I have never met anybody earning over 2k usd.
Can people get away with teaching in Vietnam without a visa post-pandemic? Are private classes lucrative there?
You'll be crossing a border every 90 days, and the government has been checking accommodation more often, asking why someone on a tourist visa has a 6 month lease. From a tax perspective, they are making being able to pay you more difficult, but one on ones would be impossible to really manage. It's not really a responsible way to live, but why bother even without a degree there are ways we can get you a work permit.

A good video but not all “old dudes” are sexpats but hey if it helps you get clicks go on with the cliches…….

Cheap for sure.😊
