.40 s&w for me!
but never 180gr bullet weight, only between 150gr and 165gr bullet weight, moving at a minimum of 1200 fps with a minimum energy of 500 fpe! and that expands a minimum of 75% to .70"
I carry .357SIG more often than .40, but I entirely agree that 180gr is often way too heavy. I've carried the Barnes TAC-XPD .40 rounds exclusively-- they're 140gr lead-free with a really wide HP cavity. I'm a velocity nut 😅
@@drewmunny 180gr was always too heavy for the .40 s&w, it is great for the 10mm auto though!
165gr is great balance for speed and weight for the 40
Another excellent test with equally excellent results. You can't go wrong with either. The expansion on the 40 is tough to argue against. The energy of the Sig is impressive and you tend to get plenty of penetration. Well done.
Thank you sir!! As always I appreciate u checkin it out!!
40 cal expansion diameters aren't tough to argue against, when the cavitation from the 357 Sig in a mere .355 diameter beats it.
That's exactly what 357SIG was designed for bouyeeee. 125gr/JHP @ 1450fps can you say terminal shock
The .357 Sig Slow-Mo Shot! Wow!! 🔥🔥 As Always Outstanding job!
Thank you buddy, I appreciate that!!
My 2 favorite carry guns chambered in my 2 favorite cartridges. Thanks for the test.
I use the HST 125 gr in my .357 Sigs and .40 S&W. Great stuff 😝👍!
My 1st duty weapon while working as a police officer was the .40 cal glock 22. My department allowed me to carry the glock 35, and I took it to firearms instructor school. I love the 40 cal glock. Ironically, we used the winchester 180 grain round.
The 125gr 357 magnum load at 1450 fps set the standard for SD that still stands. The little G33 loaded with these old HSTs or the current Underwood 124gr JHP equals the 357 Magnum round for round with each of it's 10 rounds!
Remember, 357 can be loaded much hotter than that.. 1,600 fps with the 125 grain bullets. Don't want to be like the 9mm simps comparing +p+ 9mm loads to middle road .357 sig loads!
@@Tyrantresister The G33 doesn't just compare to the 357 Mag, it matches it as seem in the video. It also carries 10 rounds and easily conceals in a back pocket. The problem is a lot of people just seem to not want to accept these simple facts. A lot of people don't want to accept the 357 Sig because they are already heavily invested in the other calibers.
@@kennethferguson4283 LOL, .357 can get a whole lot more velocity than that. I've seen 9mm match 357 easily! Plenty of videos showing it!
Very good testing Mr AZ i love the 40 s&w and 357 sig i currently have the ranger t series 165gr i 40 they are very nasty rounds indeed! Had a sig p226 with both the 40 and 357 sig barrels a number of years ago but sold it regrettably as 357 sig was getting stupid on the price. Maybe i will have to get 357 barrel for my hk usp 40?
Thank you very much, I appreciate it!! I agree, the 165gr are pretty wicked too. I actually have a test coming up with them soon. I have a few older test videos with them also. Would be awesome to have a sig barrel for hk. Sounds like fun. Thanks again, I appreciate u checkin out the channel!! Plenty comin😁
@@AzAirgunner. Trying to decide if I just need the barrel 🤔 or just get a new gun 😁
I got a barrel for my full size USP40. It won't reliably run the 357 Sig. I got at least one malfunction per magazine. My USP Compact, P2000SK, and P2000 cycle it perfectly.
@@Lexicologist1971 I wonder if it's a magazine issue or maybe even an ammo issue sounds kind of weird that a barrel butt stranger things have happened 🤔
@jackbaird5235 it runs perfectly with all 10 magazines in 40. Someone once commented that their's feeds fine with the magazine well magazines. I occasionally carry my USP40. I have some Ranger T ammo in 40 for those occasions.
Have mostly 9mm but have 357 SIG 10mm 40SW 45acp the order of what l like best 357 SIG 10mm 9mm 40SW 45acp in order of power 10mm 357 SIG 40SW 45acp 9mm the 357 SIG and 10mm are powerful handgun rounds that are a blast to shoot 10mm is gaining popularity 357SIG is not it's a wicked round regardless
Nice job as always. Can we get some Doubletap in .357sig out of the 33? Haven’t seen any doubletap yet…
Thank you very much, I appreciate it!! Next time I put in a order I'll make sure to grab some doubletap. Thanks for checkin this one out!!
.40 S&W Critical Duty 165 grain. Never failed me in almost three decades of service.
Now if Hornady would stop skimping and put the nickle plating back?
Critical Duty hasn't been out for 3 decades!!!
I am super disappointed with the MV of the new HST. If I’m not mistaken it’s the new production. I guess they slowed it down to stay within FBI specs but I thought the idea was to make it comparable to the 357 Mag. Would much rather have them switch back. Excellent, thanks!
How does one ID the old vs new production HST? I don't want to buy any of that watered down new stuff.
Usually u can tell by lot #
@@AzAirgunner.what in the lot number can one look for to see if it's the good stuff?
Az, as usual, bro you are doing outstanding work. These are the two exact rounds that I carry in my EDC and it's outstanding to see the effectiveness of both. Outstanding content, my friend.
Thank you very much!! I always appreciate u commenting and checking em out!! Glad u enjoy them😁. Very cool that u carry the same rounds, great choice. They are both awesome. Always get great results with em. Thanks as always my friend, I appreciate ya!!
Great results out of the short barrel Glocks.
Have both caliber barrels for my Glock 32.
I love both these rounds but my edc is 357 g33 sig you could call me a fanboy of it wish more guns had the option of 357 sig
You should try the 165 grain ftx critical defense from Hornady in .40 s&w I think they’re particularly good in compact/subcompact barrel lengths.
Both are "better" then a 9mm but not by enough for me to not want to choose 9mm for my handgun caliber
Thanks. I carry a G22 with 180 gr HST's - either will do the job looks like. That Ranger does look wicked.
357 FTW...recoil is a lot more pleasant in the high power rounds. Heavy for caliber rounds kinda suck for fpe. you can clearly see the extra pressure wave effect from the 357 round. 580fpe is nuts from a subcompact. 405 isn't bad but 9x19 can hit that with +P. the 357 will do far more secondary wounding and get a much more rapid incapacitation, shot for shot
357 sig all day carry to save your life
Both worked really well! That 40 S&W was wicked. Since the 180 grain 40 is much slower than 165 or 155 and didn't get the penetration that a heavier bullet should, I'd use a lighter bullet. Maybe you could test a 40 S&W 165 HST?......Please.. Still great info and appreciate your efforts.
@AZAirgunner you said these were the loads that you carry? So you don't carry the underwood defenders? How does clothing effect the Ranger T in 40? I know that Tools and Targets tests have shown t hat clothing neuter the Ranger T in 45 which performs amazing in bare gel, but performs horrible with clothing.
I haven't had any issues with the 180gr .40 ranger t. I have done a ton of testing on it, and it has never once failed to expand, even with heavy layers of fabric. The 165gr on the other hand actually has given me issues with not expanding surprisingly, even with the higher velocity. Also no I do not carry underwood ammo. I definitely love anything underwood, but do not carry. I like the hst for 357 sig and this ranger t for the .40 for the shorty barrels. Thanks for checkin this one out!!
That 180 in the bonded version won the Lucky Gunner 40 test they claimed, that velocity was terrific from tiny and that would be a good go to round , save that Sig thats smoking, hopefully not set back .
Very cool. Everytime I test those two there usually pretty high. No setback in the sig, I've made sure because of the high velocities lol. Just loaded properly for once, surprisingly. Definitely a saver. Thanks as always my friend!!
The Lucky Gunner crew are complete idiots. Backyard ballistics at it's finest.
Great stuff my friend, your channel is awesome!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate that!! Glad ur enjoying it. Plenty comin my friend😁 Thanks again!!
wow .... wonderful expansions ...
Thanks buddy, good to see u back around😁👍
Dang both impressive.
Great test, AZ! I'm not going to be switching from my current EDC 10mm, but I wouldn't feel bad about carrying either of these rounds. The 40 did under penetrate a bit but still, no one in their right mind is going to complain about a slug that looks like it did when you pulled it out. I would probably pick the 357 Sig as the winner but then I'm kind of a velocity freak anyway, so it definitely fills that aspect pretty well. Although I do rag on the 40 Short & Weak, no one is going to be under gunned with either one! I love that you're using the ordanance gel, you're about the last one using it, which is sad. Keep up the great work!
Cheers,
jc
I love your channel Man! I always enjoy your videos!
Thank you very much, I appreciate that a lot!! I'm glad u enjoy it. Plenty comin my friend😁. Thanks again!!
Ranger t 180gr and 165gr in ballistics gel with full size ?
That test is coming up soon😁

I like both
Awesome test I carry both of those as well. Have the exact same 27.
Nice, great choice!! The baby glocks are awesome. Thank you, I appreciate u checkin it out!!
Neither.
What do you carry?
@@adamshaw8214 9mm for the hoods and 10mm for the woods. .40 S&W and .357 SIG are obsolete cartridges.
Why even bother to make a comment if you don't care for the 40 or 357 sig.... You guys are weird bro.
@@armedrebellion47Why even bother to comment on my comment? You're weird for using obsolete cartridges bro.
@@insanity4082 You're saying that as if the 10mm wasn't an obsolete cartridge... 🤣😂 to each is own, Good luck on that 9mm for defense carry...
Could you possibly test the Underwood. 45 acp +p 185gr. Nosler HP.
Next time I put in a order I will make sure to grab some.
Thanks bro. I carry my 357 sig but stiil love my 1911 and those rounds sound really good at 1200fps. Love your comparison vids, the best on yt!
@AzAirgunner. 2nd can you test the 45acp underwood 185 grain +p & the new 230 grain +p berry's hollow point
