As a result of the .357 sig vs 10mm, I have come to a conclusion that I will stick with the .357 sig instead of adding another caliber to my collection. Great video!
Always a good day when we get to see a 357 sig VS 10mm test from AZ Airgunner! It always puts into perspective how nasty that little 357 sig actually is! Keep up the good work!
I love the 10...and I do want one...but for me .357 sig will do anything and more that I need ...I guess mostly I don't wanna have to buy a new caliber... great test as always my friend..
That is my only problem with the 10mm. I do find that the Timberwolf full frame is much more ergo than the Glock frame, I just wonder if a TW large frame might be comfortable for my handsl
@@bullaaron You won't be disappointed! Size and weight (loaded) of any typical 9mm Glock with the power of low-moderate end 10mm (with the right load)!!! Literally can't go wrong!
Great video. That Underwood ammo is incredible! I hope more companies will increase their production of the .357 Sig ammo and especially companies like Underwood with their high performance ammo.
@BOURBON-BANDIT 357sig in 90 grain grizzly jhp @ 1900+ fps and 720+ ft/lbs of energy DUMPS 100 % of its energy with no overpenetration! Or underwoods 115 grain nosler jhp at over 1500fps also is a very explosive anti personal round..and it does it with much less recoil!
Out of shorter barrels the edge goes to 357 Sig but I suspect out of 4.5”-5” barrels the 10mm should outshine 357 Sig. In any event it’s 357 Sig for me and has been the case for ages.
It doesn’t, a Glock 40 in 10mm with a 5.3 inch barrel hits at around 560 foot pounds with 200 grain fmj and a Glock 31 in 357 sig with a 4.5 inch barrel hits at 590 foot pounds with 140gr fmj
My daily carry is a Sig P224 in 357 Sig, but if they made a smaller 10mm DA/SA gun I would carry it. Until they do, 357 Sig is the best concealed carry round out there. 357 Sigs come in 9mm-sized guns with almost twice the muzzle energy of some standard 9mm rounds, with a recoil that is slightly less than 40SW. Follow-up shots aren't near as easy as a 9mm, but you only need one or two to get the job done.
Amazing vid bro. Stumbled across this trying to figure which to add to the collection. These were the two it came down to and your vid pops up haha cheers man! Stay safe
Thanks for the great video! As someone who just got into 10mm, I think we will see more popularity with 10 and hopefully 357 Sig. I learned that when looking for ammo, pay attention to the manufacturers test barrel length for the listed velocity on a type of ammo and look for stuff tested with a similar length barrel to your barrel for similar velocity. Velocity is key to propped hollow-point expansion!
357 Sig is dying. I think Glock is the only one that still offer pistols in that caliber but even they doesnt offer 5 gen's in 357 Sig and probably wont.
Thank you for another interesting and informative video. You're becoming my new go-to source for 10mm Auto JHP self-defense ammo performance information. I've liked and subscribed. I love 10mm Auto. It's my all-time favorite pistol cartridge. I like .357 SIG very much, but it's very scarce and expensive to come by. 10mm Auto is a more versatile cartridge. Theory / Underwood Excuses: I started using Underwood Ammo's 10mm Auto loads way back, around 2013 or so. Back then, a 50-round box of their 10mm Auto JHP self-defense loads could be had for around $30. Velocity performance typically exceeded Underwood's published claims. Those were the days. Underwood's 10mm Auto JHP self-defense bullet selections (from Nosler, Speer's Gold Dot bonded bullet, Hornady's XTP), when pushed to Underwood's published velocities (actual test results were often faster than advertised) would suffer a lot of jacket separation and fragmentation. They provided a huge energy dump and very wide wound channels, but not a lot of penetration. Their XTP JHPs seemed to hold together and penetrate the best. Test barrel length was always stated to be 5". The issue was these bullets were / are all designed only for .40 S&W velocities, not 10mm Auto full-power velocities, hence, limited penetration and a lot of fragmentation. I also seem to recall a good amount of reports regarding catastrophic malfunctions (pistols blowing up) as well. Over the years, I've noted Underwood apparently de-powering their 10mm Auto loads, without necessarily publishing these new lower velocities. Add to that we still don't see very many JHP self-defense bullets designed for full-power 10mm Auto velocities. I've read / seen that SIG Sauer's 10mm Auto 180 Gr JHP Elite V-Crown bullets appear to hold together better and penetrate more at what I consider to be moderate-power 10mm Auto energy (600 ~ 699 FtLbs ME). These are a relatively new bullet design that SIG Sauer released when their (then new) P220 10mm Auto 5" pistols were first introduced several years ago. Just my two cents worth. I'm certainly no expert. Good things! 👍
Gotta get on Gunbroker for the good 357sig deals. They seem to be right around the same price as defensive load 10mm. Also from what I've seen the Underwood 10mm bonded Gold Dots always hold together (as shown in the video as well). I just wish they could be had again (so I can have some on standby for my 357sig).
Very good results. The 10mm out of the shorter barrel was impressive. The 357 Sig always does great. The problem with the 357 Sig cartridge is it head spaces on the case mouth like a straight walled case and not the shoulder like bottle necked case. With it's short neck and a tape crimp it can be problematic for hand loaders to get enough tension to eliminate bullet set back. Thanks for your efforts and accurate reporting.
Glad u stayed to the end to see em. I always try to throw that in there. Gives ppl a better perspective of what's going on, and how crazy some of these temporary stretch cavity can get. Thank you for checkin it out buddy, I appreciate ya!! Plenty comin😁.
Awesome comparison of my two favorite handgun cartridges! Sadly, the 357 never reached the popularity that it deserved and it is fading away, and interestingly, SIG no longer offers a gun chambered in 357. I carried the 357 as a duty round for 10 years using Speer 125gr GD ammo. Thankfully, I never had to use it, but I knew of it's awsome capabilities if I had to. Now that I'm retired, I carry a Glock 33. As for the 10mm, I started shooting that cartridge in 1994, but I have never actually carried a gun chambered in that cartridge. Since the 10mm is fun to shoot and easy to reload, I use it for recreational shooting only.
As usual the 10mm looks like it wants to tear itself apart, it's definitely a wicked round. But .357 Sig is no slouch either, just wish the ammo was more readily available, hopefully .357 Sig go the route of 10mm and make a comeback some day. Would like to see a test between the full size Glock 20 and the Glock 31 pistols instead of between the compact pistols, maybe even between a Glock 31 and a Glock 22.

The Noslers Underwood loads now pale in comparison. They're engineered for 9mm and .40 short and weak in these diameters and not up for handling these velocities....they fragment badly and penetration suffers.
Most manufacturers stopped making new 357 sig ammo nobody buys it
@Agilepickleunite it has the same kind of devoted following 10mm did not too many years ago when people claimed it was dead
.40 gets no love?
10&40 same thing frl just a little more case & powder
10mil greater than 357sig everyday of the week. 9x25 Dillon also better than 357sig. If you wanna "equally" test rounds, test *"equal"* rds with *"equal"* grains and *"equal"* fps. And *"equal"* barrels. 10mil wins every time.
10mm is overrated people say they take 10 in grizzly country . If I was in the woods I got nothing less than a 44 mag
