Informative and very helpful, not only for therapists. But for many folks (including therapists) when emotional reactions or behaviours can, when intense, become unworkable

Excellent video again Dr May. I love the topic as well. I do struggle sometimes with target behaviours and videos like this help greatly

Hi Jennifer, what would you say is the best therapy approach to fix the Connection-Survival style?

I don’t think there is any “best” therapy. There are a number of very good trauma treatments and therapists out there, and it’s a matter of finding one who is a good fit who uses techniques that sound palatable and doable for you. Some good therapies include DBT, IFS, sensorimotor psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, EMDR, and EFIT.

Hi Dr. May, I was wondering if you could do a whole comprehensive series on ERP therapy like you did sensorimotor psychotherapy?
I'm in DBT for my emotion dysregulation, but it's not helping my OCD. I don't have access to ERP where I am either.
Or ACT therapy because that's the other one they say is effective for OCD. That one's also hard to find information on. I've gotten some books but it's pretty confusing to me, almost too abstract... At least what I've been reading so far.
Just a couple ideas for those of us with serious problems with OCD, agoraphobia, and any anxiety based disorders. No pressure.
Thank you so much for everything that you do for us. 💓🙏🏻

      Thanks for your suggestion.
It might be a little hard to do something on ERP because it's very individualized. You basically need to come up with a hierarchy of fears/anxieties from least intense to most intense. Then you work on exposing yourself to those things without avoiding or running away while trying to use calming techniques and resources that can help you return to your window of tolerance. The closest video I have on this subject now is from the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy series, "26 - SP - Recalibrating Your Nervous System" - ua-cam.com/video/RPUwLWFrYHw/v-deo.html
I'd be willing to look into making some ACT videos in the future. But meanwhile, similar things to that are DBT - Distress Tolerance - Radical Acceptance ua-cam.com/video/Q_7s9Bq50Xs/v-deo.html and Healthy vs. Unhealthy Thinking Styles - ua-cam.com/video/ulCwzUuxmUI/v-deo.html (similar to ACT's concept of Cognitive Defusion).
Hope that helps a little for now!

@@jennifermayph.d.2761 Thank you so much Dr. May. I'm glad ACT and DBT are so closely related. It should make it easier to understand.
So far I find it pretty confusing, more abstract from the books I've been reading. I do think it's focus on value driven action and acceptance as the most important things is very useful. But it also seems harder than DBT because you seem to have to expose yourself to all your difficult feelings and thoughts without distress tolerance...I hope that's just my misinterpretation. I think ACT and DBT could work well together.
Anyway, thank you for answering. I look forward to all of your videos.
