- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Thank you all for following along with me on this DIY squaredrop camper build. This project was extremely fun, and me and the family are super excited about having this to use now. If you have any questions please feel free to comment or ask. I will post as many links down below that I can think of that I used in this build that I received from Amazon (mostly all of it). The doors/windows/back hatch were bought from Vintage Technologies, and the MDO plywood I used was sourced locally at my local hardwood dealer.
AS always, the links below are Amazon Affiliate links, so this channel could receive a small commission if these links are used to purchase items. There is absolutely no fee imposed to you, this only helps out the channel.

That has got to be one of the nicest home builds I have ever seen, looks factory
Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
Projects at home kept me sane during Covid too, lol
👍🏻👍🏻😂
Probably the nicest DIY job I have ever seen ! Truly a fantastic job to be proud of !
Thanks so much!
Completely agree. I've been hunting build for 6 months. Brian nailed it for me. Now the work begins.
After watching several of your videos now I can’t believe why you don’t have millions of viewers! Keep em coming.
lol👍🏻👍🏻
The "as seen on tv" heater is genius! It would be perfect in a small space like that.
👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for sharing.
"I'm calling it done" followed by "its still a work in progress"
👍🏻
I've been junking out on builds. This is 90% exactly what I want to do. Do you have any CAD drawings? The couch/fold out bed, the TV. Perfect. I see a small toilet like the MeerKat in the bottom left (slide out) below the TV shelf and a hint more storage around. I'm gonna add a removable table for eating inside watching movies. Already got my galley designed. But damn it. Now I need to finally go clean out the garage and create my work space to get started. Awesome job Brian!! You are a stud. Let the games begin.
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
I still like watching this build. I’m thinking of trying this one out. Always enjoy your videos.
Thanks Doyle. It really was a fun build👍🏻
For a heater, consider the Propex HS2211 - it keeps the combustion outside so you aren't dealing with moisture.
Thanks👍🏻 I’ll check it out
@@BrianWatersOutdoors No problem - I learned of it from another channel comparing various heaters (propane and diesel) for heating a roof tent if I remember correctly. The blower is quiet enough that it doesn't disturb my sleep and the digital thermostat works well. Even though it is designed to mount under the trailer, I built a box around it to protect it from getting wet or getting road salt on it. Very pleased with it even though there were cheaper choices. It is made in Ireland and there are only a few dealers in North America.
👍🏻👍🏻
I watched your build playlist last night and this video wasn't in it. It was like a cliffhanger ending to a movie. This is a great trailer. I was thinking of building a teardrop but wanted to do composite, but your build made me reconsider those plans. So, here it comes, my two cents worth.......two things I would have done differently: 1) I would have built the whole camper body on the floor and then used your winch to pull it up on the trailer when complete. Then just finish your flooring and you're done. Second thing, 2) I would have sprayed the entire camper body with truck bed coating (Line-X, Rhino Liner, etc). Totally indestructible and you'd never have a leak. I coated an 8x18 cargo trailer 7 years ago for $700. Best money I've ever spent. But, once again, awesome build!
👍🏻👍🏻 thanks
Bed liner sucks for this, and isn't even remotely close to being "totally indestructible" - Numerous people have used various brands of bed liner material, and every single one of them not only isn't "totally indestructible", they all "self destructed".
Without exception, every application began to crack and engage in a plethora of delamination activities. The more soft the material it was applied to, the faster and worse it happened..even in very one side climate areas of the country. Wood of course being the worst.
Vehicles that experienced travel to weather extremes, or has it's home in an area that sees very hot and very cold or damp conditions already experienced it sooner.
It's literally the polar opposite of what one might think.
The winch is great but consideration must be made so u don't end up like the guy in New Zealand that pulled his cabin apart with his winch after adding some weight inside.
Pretty cool. It has the shape of a woodstove!
👍🏻👍🏻
I just clicked on this video. I haven't been on your channel before. I probably will alot more now. I looked at your neighborhood and thought. That looks like it could be around here. That has to be Texas. Then I went to your channel and saw the flag. Lol we're need Fort Hood, I mean Fort Cavasos. After 30 years it's gonna be hard to remember that. Trying to talk hubby into building me one of these. I can't set up our 33footer by myself.
Thanks so much👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent build and walk through. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks😂
You did a great job!! Thanks for sharing the whole process. Legit Made in America!!! 🇺🇸
Thanks David👍🏻
Great build. Keeps the family together. Enjoy.
Thanks👍🏻
Just finished watching the build series and I wish I had the knowledge and patience to do one. 3 years ago I ended up buying a nucamp 320s but doesn't compare when you build it with own two hands. Awesome build, congratulations.
Thank you! I had a lot of fun building this👍🏻
Nice rig - I have thought about doing a build
Like this for weekend trips so I can leave the fifth wheel parked . Thanks for the ideas
👍🏻👍🏻
Binged all your camper build videos today! I have a 4x8 harbor freight trailer, that I wanna make a teardrop/squaredrop out of!
👍🏻👍🏻
You did an amazing job!
Thank you David
That's fantastic. What a great looking build.
Thanks👍🏻👍🏻
Great work Brian. You really made good use of the space and I especially like the bunk type setup as you describe it.
Thanks Daniel👍🏻
You did a super nice build here. I am not being negative here but I don't understand why you didn't cut side rail and make the doors lower and more easy to access? You could also wire the AC/DC plug ins via a home light switch in a box via the Hot wire/black and twist neutrals together inside box and just flip switches to change from AC TO DC.
Excellent work. Good workmanship. 😃
Thank you!
You did a really nice job. That's all I have to tell you.
Thank you👍🏻
Just stumbled upon your videos
AWESOME CAMPER, LOOKS GREAT
Thanks Steven👍🏻
Nice build. I'm saving for a build, likely next year and will steal your idea for the roof profile. I'm a tall guy, too and the headroom is a must.
Awesome! Good luck!
Thats one good looking trailer, love the design and use of space with a cool paint job.Was wondering after a year if we can get an update how it is working out for you and your family. Smiles 😮 from 🇨🇦
Thank you Allan! Sadly, I sold the camper a few months ago to get our family into something a big bigger. BUT - it held up great and we took it out on a lot of trips. No leaks, cold a/c, and no issues to report.
Awesome job! Can't wait for our to be finished!!
Thank you! Good luck on your build!
Awesome work, now go enjoy it!
Thanks👍🏻
That looks awesome! Great work!
Thank you👍🏻
Wow! Very impressive! I love it
Thanks👍🏻
That turned out nice, good job.
👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻
I actually really like the shape of this camper! Great idea. Very nice job with this one :)
Thank you👍🏻
Awesome job Brian. Love it man.
Thanks👍🏻
Very nice build out. I always thought those little trailers were so 😍 cute and functional. I'm not a DIY kinda person but I did look at several of the manufactured ones. Hope you and your family have many great outings in it! She's a nice one 👍.
Thank you😃
How much did it cost
Good job! And I love the SKX009 too!
👍🏻👍🏻 thanks
AMAZING BUILD , THANKS !
Thank you👍🏻
What a great set up! Nice 👍
Thank you Darren👍🏻
Good job man it’s really gorgeous.
Thank you👍🏻
Fantastic job. I have a trailer like yours and thought of a similar project.
Thank you sir!
Beautiful sir!
Thank you👍🏻👍🏻
Looks like the “tire guys” trailer. Looks nice.
Thanks👍🏻 I’ll have to check that out
@@BrianWatersOutdoors What you think of my trailer? Did you chk my horrible videos out? lol
Wow that's awesome
Thank you
Turned out great!
Thanks Rod!
Looks great
Thanks Mary👍🏻👍🏻
Very nice 👍🙂
Thanks Kevin!
Great work 👍👍
Thank you sir!
Just came across this nice finished build, so I'll start over at your beginning now since I just found your TSC trailer 3 miles from me for $2,299 and feel better about this one than what Lowe's or Harbor Freight have based on what you've turned it into 🙂
The TSC trailer was a much better option than Lowes or HD when I was looking. Plus, it’s an extra 5” wider….and that makes a big difference.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors Oh, I forgot about HD, but I guess it doesn't matter now lol
👍🏻👍🏻
Aloha lads nice job i wish i could buy one tuen key operation.......good stuff thanks keep rolling
Thanks👍🏻👍🏻
Cool camper
Thanks👍🏻👍🏻
GREAT job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎😎👌👌👌
Thank you👍🏻
This is sweet!
Thanks👍🏻
Great trailer! I plan on building a camper on the same type of trailer. Except I plan on cutting the side rails off and reinforcing the frame with box tubing. Is there a reason why you didn't go that route?
No reason, just easier to build this way for me.
Nice build👍
Thanks👍🏻
Excellent design, not overdone - one question, why did you not just make the whole camper the height of the back section. You probably answered this in your build videos which I am about to go watch. I happened to have the same TS trailer to use for this build. I want to put my 130 lb Sunfish sailboat on top of the camper - any thoughts about what that weight might do over a whole bunch of travelling.
Some of it is just design preference. I didn’t want a giant rectangle box, and I needed the front lower so I could install that roof fan. If it was all the same height as the back height then it would not fit in my garage because the added height of the fan. Also, cost. I simply would have had to buy more MDO plywood, which at almost $180 a panel, it’s not cheap.
Very nice
Thank you
Nice build. 👍I have been thinking something similar of using a utility trailer as a base, like you, using a 5.5'x10'. 😎😀
👍🏻👍🏻
Man that is awesome
Thanks Sean👍🏻
Awesome camper but Not sure about the AC on the front, seems like it would drive water in going down the road?
I have a cover for it when traveling👍🏻
Hey , I am with you when it comes to a galley. Why are they always building one. All you need is a burner and a few pots and the pick nick table at the campground. You can use that space for storage. No problem. Do you still have the teardrop. How do you like it after 2 years. Still using it?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hello very nice build if you could change anything what would you have changed
Honestly, not much. Everything worked out great on this build
awesome!
👍🏻
Nice build Brian !! 2 questions, what you doing for cooking and bathroom ??? Thanks for sharing, it was a fun journey.
Thanks Joey! For bathroom - going to get a camping toilet , and for cooking I have several options. I have the Coleman propane dual burner camp stove and a couple of isobutane Jetboil cookers I can also use.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors Thanks Brian, looking forward to your next project
Thank you sir. Will be posting a video shortly of the first trip with this camper. Hoping to get it out next weekend.
Nice
Thanks👍🏻
Is there an updated version of the video with the bunk beds installed? I was looking at a harbor freight 4x8 trailer, but extend it sideways and forward a bit with a platform to add like 1ft w, 2f l to be ~5x10- and have lower bed on floor, and a drop bunk bed from top for kids.
Looks great. How do like the doors and windows from Vintage Technology? What size door did you go with?
Thanks! Doors held up great. I can’t remember the exact size but it was the largest door they had
Can you put all of your camper build videos in a playlist?
great idea! I have now created a playlist with all my videos related to this build. Thanks!
Great job Brian! Seems over half your replies are other DIY'ers. Add me to that list. You're an industrious fella to knock this project out in 3 mos! I started my cargo trailer/camper conversion end of Jan and not done yet. Mine is 4x6 V-Nose and pulled with a 4 cyl Scion! I sacrificed headroom for 28mpg... Do you like your Tri-fold couch-bed? I got the Milliard 75x38x6 Tri-Fold. Hey, sorry for rambling, See ya around.... 🏕
Thanks bud. I love the tri fold mattress. Once it’s folded out I can’t even tell it’s a tri fold. Sleeps very well.
Awesome trailer! Great build.
One critique of the video is the intro is waaaaay to long.
👍🏻
Awesome build! Do you have an estimated cost for the build?
Thank you. I was close to $6500 all in. That includes the new trailer as well.
Can you post the info on the heater please. Great job!
Here is the affiliate (Amazon) link on this heater:

@@BrianWatersOutdoors Thanks Brian, I just added the heater to my 'cart'...
What would you call that roof shape? I am planning a build of my own and I really like the concept of this shape.
Honestly, not sure. I just came up with it on the fly
Excellent video and final product. What was the final total cost camper & trailer?
Thank you. Best estimate including trailer is $8000
Looks great. Can you stand up inside the trailer?
Almost. I’m a tad over 6’ and interior is right at 6’.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors .. how is the gas mileage when towing this trailer vs not towing?
I get about 13.5 towing. 16 without it.
My comment is WOW, just Wow!!
Lol. Thank you👍🏻
have you ever weighed it to see how heavy it is? or would you guess its weight?
The trailer alone is 1200, so my guess is all in it’s probably close to 2500-3000lbs
Wow that’s heavy! I have a full size caravan that’s 5.6m internal length and that’s 3000lbs. I’m looking for something lightweight as I’m considering towing with my mini sometimes, but at only around 900lbs limit it’s gonna be a challenge!
That's one nice camper. Been wanting to do something like this. What's the final cost?
Can't believe you're able to do donuts with the trailer attached. 😁
Lol. Thanks! Donuts were pretty tough with this setup. Final cost, including trailer is ballpark $8k
Nice build. Maybe i missed it, but why the step slope for the roof. What was the reason for this?
Thank you. Step up was just to provide as much height as possible while still being able to store in my garage. That back area is also the bunk bed area for my kids, so I needed as much interior room as I could get.
The camper looks really good. I have been looking a diy camper with bunk bed. What is the estimated total cost on this build?
Thanks. Total cost was around 8k
I don't think I can add my pics here but I have a similar camper and we had water get in when we camped 😭 did u trim or seal the outside seams? It's possible some water got in from my ac area... Not sure. We coated ours with a bed liner type paint.
I put a layer of Bondo around all the seams and sanded flush before all the paint, and caulked the heck out of the joints from the inside with RV sealant so, so far I do not have any leaks
I honestly think it came in were the wood and frame meet. We are fair weather campers but... Lol thanks for the info!
Excellent build. Very well done. Will there be solar in your future?
Thank you. I don’t think so on the solar. I have plenty of power stations and portable/ foldable solar panels I can use if needed.
Great job , how much does the trailer weigh as it sits currently ?
My best guess is around 3000. I’ve never officially had it weighed though.
👍👍
👊🏻👊🏻
Great joob. I can see these selling. Just founf y'all today,
Lol. Thanks! I’m about to put it up for sale soon👍🏻😀
Carbon Monoxide detector should be lower. Co2 is heavier than O2
👍🏻
Would you build another just like and sell it? Or have you had other ideas to where you would sell this one
Both scenarios have crossed my mind
How much if you were to sell yours? Or how much if you built a new one
@@eddiewilliams883 shoot me an email. You can find it on my main channel page.
Where are you going to put the "family when its raining ?
The family will go in the camper.
Do you have the final total weight on your camper? Estimated cost to build? Have been considering building one and selling our bulky motorhome we don't really use that much because if its size and its a pain to store a 26' motorhome. Something like this could fit in a garage with the right size garage door and space to put it in.
Hey Ron. Best estimate on weight is 2700 lbs. this can be pulled by my wife’s Ford Explorer with ease. And we do keep it in the garage to make it easy to get it out when we want to. Total cost to build including the trailer was around $11k. And PS- I have it up for sale now😉😉
How tall is it? We are thinking about getting or having built a small trailer. Thinking 5X10 would be better (we have 2 dogs as well). But What about height???? Just seems like the "standard" are like 4 foot tall. That seems so cramped. Appreciate any feedback and advice. Nice build job!!!
Thank you. The front 1/2 is 5’ tall and then the back 1/2 is 6’
@@BrianWatersOutdoors Thanks for the information Brian !!!
👍🏻👍🏻
Niceeeee broo
Thanks bud!
LOVED this build out you did Brian! After watching all this I'm goign to build my own for sure. Curious and if you don't mind me asking how much was your final cost with the trailer? Just wanting to know how much I will be in dept afterwards. Keep up the great videos!
My best guess (I kind of lost track) is around $8k. The trailer alone was $2k. The 5x10 sheets of MDO along with the windows and doors were the most expensive items.
I can not find your galley door on Amazon Vintage Technologies. Do you have a part number you can upload so I can call them?
Part number: FC15
4840-2CR
Teardroptrailerparts.com
Nice work can the camper come out of the trailer if you want to use as a trailer
Thank you. Technically it can, as it’s only bolted to the deck, but it wouldn’t be easy.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors I saw a guy who used cables and turn-buckles to secure his trailer to a similar trailer. That way, he didn't have to 'align holes' etc...A p/u camper I had once locked down with turnbuckles as well
Yeah, I believe I know the fella you’re talking about. It is a good idea, but in reality I don’t ever see me needing to remove this from the trailer. But in an “emergency” I could.
Can you move this around by hand ?
Sure can
How did you register it in Texas? Did you get plates for it?
Just have the trailer registered right now. Don’t plan on keeping this much longer so didn’t want to go through the hassle of changing the registration to an “RV”
Any plans?
No. Just winged this as I went
All said and done. What did this cost to build?
Approx $8k including the trailer
I would think about installing a rooftop tent as well as an awning for shade and shelter you can utilize the side for a shower / toilet area as well you spent a lot a time making this on this trailer but I don’t understand why you would invest the time and money in something so small after all it’s a básico ya mini landscaping trailer for pulling with your tractor or a quad... it’s beautiful looking but lacking...and while I’m saying this I don’t mean to be rude just practical... if it was just you it’s fine but mentioned kids and dogs... that’s two huge pieces of the pie plus no mention of wife... if you want people to enjoy themselves creature comforts are a must ... everyone wins...
I guess that’s your opinion. Which is fine. This is perfect for me and my family, as it fits in my garage, no storage fees, and I don’t want “creature comforts” when I take my kids camping. They are camping to be outdoors and not sit inside a giant RV. and, not everyone can afford to go out and buy an expensive RV. Kids love this thing and the wife is happy in it at night. It’s better than a tent and we enjoy it so I guess it’s a win for us.
Brian, is there anything on the market that is somewhat equivalent to this? It is so cool, but I don't think I could make something like this.
I’m sure there is, but I honestly haven’t looked too hard. I’ve seen some pretty bulky / overland trailers kind of similar to this but those were around $15k to $20k
Where did you get the vents for your AC unit in the front?
Home Depot. Just standard home a/c vents
