Hi there, it is me again. Interesting point here is the type of oil. The expert big engine mechanics recommend ATF Dextron oil, gearbox oil, while you use 15W-40 oil, the manual says both lubricants are OK. Without any doubt you cannot mix these oils in the saildrive. What is your opinion on the type of oil to use. Cheers Marc
It’s a good question and I don’t really have a definitive answer. From what I’ve read it’s anything from keeping the noise down in the drive unit to clutch discs on the larger drives. They seem to standardise across a large range of drives with the exception of the 120S-E. I guess some of the antifoam properties aren’t required in these drives from the gear oil and if you are in desperate need to change the oil you may have more engine oil aboard? I do agree about sticking with one type and ours has been engine oil for some time. fybmarine.shop/download/sample/900
Hi, That question seems to have some debate on the internet. I dont see a reason why you can't, although its not covered specifically in the manual I have. You must however, replace the 0-ring.
there're couple of comments for loctite243 but its not written on the manuals and workshop documents as you said. Anyway, i'm gonna change my oil this year and your video helped me for the preparations. Thanks
Thanks for this video! Very informative and helpful! I'm doing my first haulout this weekend and have referenced your video for guidance.
Thanks for your comments, glad it’s helpful and all the best with your lift ⛵️
Very useful, thanks for sharing!

Nice work, what kind of paint did you use on the Saildrive?
Many thanks - I’ve used Trilux from International on this and previous boats. Just make sure whatever you use it’s compatible with an aluminium leg.
Thanks for video.
What is big boat - type and size?
Thanks for your comments. She’s a Bavaria 36 (2 cabin layout) from 2004

@@cuneytmo Yeah, its not a bad job that one. Just make sure the surface under the screw head is clean, change the o-ring and you should be good to go.
@@BoatingwiththeBaileysdo you know the measurements of the o-ring and the washer please ?
@@chaoul12 Hi - I dont know the exact size as I just purchased the parts. Some websites say its between 6-7mm.
