- Volvo Saildrive 130s We change the gator. Blocked it was it was almost by Shells! . An Easy Boat job? In this video we have help from the UK to strip out the entire saildrive for a gator change. While we are at it we change the lip seals and O rings. Cleaning up the sea life is a big job and we find some massive shells living in the waterways. Enjoy the video.

In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.

Hi Ant, you appeared to be really enjoying that job, likely because you knew the labourer reasonably well. The seven year replacement of the stern drive sealing ring does seem conservative - but then again as you demonstrated it is a reasonable periodicity for giving the sail drive leg and drive an optical bollicking and refit. We’re hauling out in July and hope to sort the saildrive rubber boot and do some major work on our MD22l while we have the space to shift the motor . …all just as easy as changing a spark plug🤪😜🦘👍

It's time to look for a better way to clean parts. For about 130 euros, you got the VEVOR 10L Ultrasonic Cleaner Machine.
If oly we had the room on board. But I have keen crew 😁😁😁

Hi mate. The hose is 19mm internal clear with a 5mm reinforced outer. Its standard on most Bavaria's. But can be difficult to get sometimes. It is well worth getting as you can see the water flowing or the system drawing in air. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
Another good effort there. Good to see that son's come in useful now and again. 😁The anode that you put back on the saildrive. If you left off the isolation tabs would that erode before the sail leg and show up a problem? Presuming because it's not eroded after two years it shows that the leg is fully insulated?
In short yes. 😀 If you google saildrive issues you will see there has been quite a few that have rotted away very quickly. There is an advantage to fitting a galvanic isolator to you boat as well especially if your parked in a marina with steel piles. as this can be an issue too. You can test the resistance between the leg/gearbox and the engine. I can't remember what it should be in Ohm's but its very low, almost nothing. Again you can test between the anode and the prop and the sail drive and the anode. With this type of rope cutter the prop will have continuity with the anode and the saildrive. Without, the the prop has no continuity but, the sail drive and leg should have. Good questions! Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
have seen 30 years old rubber being changed, was in perf. cond. so VOLVO. do say to change them early.
It would be good to do some proper testing...
