  • I didnt see many videos which dealt with changing the saildrive oil while in the water. So thought Id put some cookies back into the cookie jar after learning so much myself from UA-cam.

Thanks for your creative and clear camera angles on the video. We have Yanmar 2017 SD-60 saildrives on our catamaran and the manual recommends an oil change every 250 hours or once a year - same as the oil change schedule on the main engines (4jh57). I use the same brand vacuum pump and it comes with enough extension tubes to place the pump on top of the engine making it comfortable to pump out all 2.8L in each saildrives. Even with using tape to seal the pump hose to the built in hose that goes to the bottom of the saildrive, it still sucks up a lot of air with the oil making it a far more tedious process that when vacuum pumping up the main engine 5.5l oil which is located on same side and about same level. But eventually all the oil comes out. It sure is much easier to change the saildrive oil on the dry which we do every 2 years. Yanmar recommends 15W40 long lasting premium oil for both the engine and the saildrive making it easier to purchase and manage.

Thanks for the video. Why didnt you use the lower plug to get more than 1.3 liters out? There is a plug at the bottom, marked with a triangle ...

Yanmar would tell you it needs changed every 15 minutes if they thought anyone would believe it

I see you're using SAE 90 there. I've been told that's not ideal but could be wrong on that.

I was on a ferry boat that l Master and the company would only do a oil change once a year and we would run that ferry about 50 hrs per

Yes, I kind of thought the 100hr schedule was too soon and possibly a way Yanmah can void any warranties.

@@SailingLaguna no , go by what the manual says or ask a professional Yanmar mechanic.
The people I work for well did not worry about things and we have a Ford less 120 hp .
