    Marriage is all about commitment and faithfulness and trust and connection and friendship and intimacy. Are you prioritizing those in your relationship? If not, there's really no point in even getting married. That is how we HAVE a great marriage. That is what LOVE requires of us. They aren't add on's. They are essential to a healthy marriage. You can stay together, but the presence of respect and emotional safety and closeness and playfulness is what makes a relationship thrive. And it's possible for you!

    How do I get my husband to understand this!!!??? I’ve been watching you on tik tok and you are so right about women and I think you do a great job trying to help people understand what it takes to make a marriage work. I’m at a loss, all my husband can say when I send him your videos is that he feels you are “weak and seem to be one of those anti masculine men” I COMPLETELY disagree with him! I wish he cared enough about my feelings to try and learn from you and save our marriage. I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your work and I hope men wake up and realize that not having feelings or hiding them makes us disconnect.

      Sorry to say this, but you can't "get" him to understand this. You can lead a horse to water and all that. Ultimately each person chooses to learn from their mistakes or continues to perpetuate their own pain. One suggestion I might make is to stop focusing on how you can "teach" emotional intelligence to your husband to meet your needs, and how you can start showing your husband that their emotional needs and safety is also valid and important.
      Men are socialised into building a wall around their emotions and locking them away for fear of them being used against them, what you need to do is be willing to undo that conditioning for the sake of your husband's emotional safety first. So you have to consider if doing this extra emotional labour for the sake of your relationship with him is worth it for you. Because as a man who has gone through this journey, it was losing people I loved because of my emotional unavailability, and my desire to not perpetuate this with my current partner @melodykiersz that caused me to begin taking responsibility for my sh*t. Wishing you both good health 🙏

      I have an idea. It may or may not work but hear me out…. Send it to him and tell him to skip to 2:38…. That might get him to the part where all the men started listening… and maybe he will scroll back to watch the answer lol.

    I would add that women are soooo tired of being the only adult in the room when it comes to developing emotional intelligence. Many women get tired of doing all of the heavy lifting when it comes to maintaining the emotional connection in their marriage and then one day they realize that they are tired from doing all the work and have nothing left to give - so they decide to leave. I have seen your other videos so know that you are advocating for more emotional connection because it leads to better overall mental and physical health. Better/more frequent sex is merely a perk.

      AWESOME skit! (Hey when will we see you again 😅) In All Fairness to both the Men and Woman out there…Do we think that our Society plays a Huge role in All this - in my opinion of course, we expect people not to grow up until they are like 30 then people say why were they not grown up in their early twenties - Duh let’s Start appreciating each others differences Early on and Start Respecting each other. Our Society would be much Happier and Healthier if people did not think playing the field for years and then settling down and wondering why you cannot Value each other was the way it is supposed to go. Just Sayin’ 🎉

    Watching this made me realise that my husband has the highest EQ and really communicates well about emotions while I’m sometimes being like these men only in the terms of always defending myself first and then listening. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Probably got it from my father and emotional distance while growing up and then hanging out with guys mostly that I just wasnt used to that type of communication. It’s so annoying to know all that but still catch yourself in these weird patterns of defensive or gaslighting attitude where my first instinct is just to totally demolish what’s being thrown at me. I don’t even have any bad intentions but I still do it sometimes. I do feel that being in touch with your emotions is a huge flex for both men and women but its a long learning and unlearning process. Thank you to all who hold space during that time. ❤

    • @JimmyonRelationships
      @JimmyonRelationships  Рік тому +79

      I love this!! It’s so important that we can all talk about this stuff! And I love the praise you give your hubby for being in touch with his emotions. I think he would love it if you talked to him about that and apologized for that defensiveness or excuses, etc and talked with him about how that’s made him feel and creating a plan together on how to connect in those moments. I’m super proud of you though! It most likely stems from some shame. You were probably taught that you had to earn love, and that you’re not allowed to make mistakes. For a lot of people tapping into their emotions and sensitivity is really hard because growing up their parents were like you said emotionally distant! That makes everything so much harder but I promise it’s never too late to learn and you’ll be glad you did :) also check out avoidant attachment and see if that resonates with you :)

    • @balkanyogi508
      @balkanyogi508 Рік тому +27

      Oh yes you are so on point. I’ve always had my heart on my sleeve and felt so so much but couldn’t talk about it or understand it for a long time. Ended up studying psychology and doing a deep introspective dive and that helped me a lot to understand myself. However, he was the first male who spoke openly about everything and encouraged me to shine light on all the dark sides of my mind and heart by assuring me that no matter what I say he won’t leave. I’m so so lucky to have met unconditional love so I managed to unlearn lots of unhealthy coping mechanisms that were there just so I could survive. We generally don’t have any big conflicts and if he notices just little something off in my tone or mood he won’t budge until he finds out what is bothering me and we talk it out. There are never any raised tones and that is so refreshing. I have an intention of overriding the gaslighting thing in me until there is nothing left as I don’t need it anymore and I know that every comment is just coming from love and intention of helping me be better always.
      p.s. I came just to watch all your content again on yt to help get monetised 🎉 good luck, great content and really nice style

But like some godsend I came across your channel and my brother it has made more of a difference than any channel or show I’ve ever known. Like a lot of times I’m watching and laughing while at the same time I have tears (good ones) in my eyes because you speak truth and I’ve listened to your truth and since the amount of frustration, loathing of one’s self, fights, and bad tears have systematically reduced by 100 fold and I just wish to give you the credit & gratitude you so rightly deserve. My friend, know this, you have changed a life, 2 of them really, and I suspect a great deal of others too. Man, from the bottom of my heart, I commend & thank you for helping save that which I love more than life itself. Thank you 🙏🏻 you deserve a medal, lots of ‘em.

You are RIGHT ON with EVERYTHING you told your doppelgängers !! My husband is exactly like your doppelgängers. Are most men really like that? I go to therapy because of lack of emotional support and everything you talked about. He doesn’t have the emotional intelligence towards me or our children. It’s also so true that an emotional, sensitive, validating man is sexy!! He’s always in the mood… I’m not, and I tell him straight up, if we were emotionally connected I’d always be in the mood!!! Emotional intelligence is sexy!! Lack of emotional support is a HUGE turn off!

      Chances are he won’t with the next one either, so that’s on him 🤷‍♀️either way, you can’t expect people to meet your needs who are just unable to do so if they never had those things in the in the first place to give. While we are naturally empathetic from birth, we have those things squeezed out of us along the way as children from how we are raised. If those things are never continued or taught, they will be foreign to them. I’d be like someone moving into your home from the other side of the world and expecting them to meet you where you are without knowing what your customs and social norms are. Are you going to get mad at them for not understanding why you do things the way you do and want them done if they just cannot get it into their heads due to the way THEY were raised? No, more than likely, you’d be empathetic towards them and meet them where they are. We assume that men function like women and have the same need when they don’t. Most of our frustration is because of that and having over realistic expectations of them needing to meet us where we are when we don’t want to meet them where they are to get things worked on. You cannot make people care if they just don’t any more than you can expect them to just because it’s what you need especially when you’re not taking into consideration that these are things that you need from them in order to meet your needs when they just were never taught how to be that way. Most people also fail to see that it actually is NOT the responsibility of the other person to get those needs met for you. Your emotions and feelings and needs are your responsibility to deal with and have be met, as are theirs for them. And if you’re constantly putting your needs on them to have to meet, you WILL be frustrated especially when they are not on the same page as you are and have little capacity to be able to actually meet those needs. To add to that, if you are extending your needs out to them and you have past traumas or issues do your own from other relationships baggage or childhood traumas, which most of us do in some way and are not secure in ourselves and need to rely on others to fix us and make us feel whole, your partner is almost always going to fail at doing so because that is a huge load for them to bear that shouldn’t have ever been placed on them to fix for you in the first place!
      One way to have them see where you are coming from though, is to treat them how you want to be treated. If you want empathy, give it to them so they can see what that is. Don’t just act like they just need to give it to you without having an understanding of what that even is or why you ‘need’ it. I think it’s also important to mention that when someone is incapable of immediately meeting you where you are, bestowing empathy on them to get you to have them to ultimately empathize with you IS essential. You’d never expect a child to just come into this world and know and understand how it all works if they just don’t. They need to learn how it does. And because of that, you shouldn’t get mad or frustrated with them if they just don’t get it and need more support to do so. Just because a man is already grown, doesn’t mean they get it or ‘just should already’. They’ve spent a whole lifetime meeting their needs based on what they were raised and taught to be able to do so….for them, now they’d are expected to figure out how someone who functions the complete opposite of them does too. Cut them some slack here especially when their who entire sex was raised on generations before them passing down false notions as to how the opposite sex works…or not even that, just how only to get their own needs met. It’s no wonder how so many only see women as empty sex symbols to use just get their needs met and to serve the man and that’s pretty much it. I’m not disputing that that is toxic behavior and that it’s not acceptable, however, it’s not really any fault of their own. They need to be reeducated that we’re more than that….just as woman need to do and stop thinking men are just dumb and heartless people who are only there to provide for us. It goes both ways. But you cannot expect someone to meet your needs who’s just unable to do so especially if you’re not treating them the same to teach them how…broken down in ways that they can learn best.
      While you may say that they should want to learn to do so if they love you, you’re not wrong, however, you should also want them to do so because they actually want to as well, not because they just get more sex out of it, etc. you cannot make someone care who’s just incapable of doing so especially if you’re expecting them to do so on your terms over theirs.
      I think it’s also worth mentioning that since your needs are your own, placing that blame on them to not care about their needs over yours WILL cause problems.
      Example: you ask them to take out the trash and they say they will after they game because they’re busy and you get mad, who’s needs are you trying to meet there? Yours without considering his. If you need it done right then and there, then you should just do it yourself to meet your needs instead of offloading that on them. You need a shift in perspective and learn that your needs don’t triumph theirs just because you see them as not being valid because he appears to be doing nothing… when they are valid…to him because to him, he is doing g something of value. Your need to have the trash being taken out right now shouldn’t be above his need to relax just because you ’need’ it done now and if it does, then it’s your responsibility to meet your own need. If not, it can wait. Many times we need to reassess what our needs are and either lower our standards or just meet them ourselves.

    I'm watching yet anther AMAZING video from Jimmy - and trying to find exactly the RIGHT one to start sharing with my partner of almost 2 years to help us (and lets be honest - HIM) be more open to discussing the apparently - very scary - topic of sharing emotions and finding strength in being aware of how caring for each other can build our bond. Thank you - this is the ONE!!

    Thank you Jimmy, my husband just wants to do whatever he wants, abandon me when I need him, and totally be inconsiderate. If I even question him, then he says I’m the villain and he gets so angry and says I can’t do that. Oh and then he tells me what I’m thinking or feeling. Then he blames me for stopping calling him “baby” anymore and being distant. He says women are so complicated… but all I ask him to do is to live life with me, be considerate of me, and listen to me. Eh, I don’t know if things will change because he’s the kind that says he just gets to do whatever and I have to just do what he says and be submissive. Seriously …. Wish I was kidding… he tells me how the most attractive thing is when a woman is submissive and I bring all this masculine energy… like umm, so expressing my needs and feelings and asking for consideration is “masculine energy” and gross? Ugh barf 🤮

      He wants a housekeeper ‘yes’ person that doesn’t speak ‘his’ language which means he doesn’t have to have more than just a yes/no/ do it my way conversation, and he certainly has no interest in learning another one - yours. I’d say go live your life - like he does. Cut your losses. This will give you a chance for a future relationship with a real man - if you’re not completely turned off all guys by the spoilt man child you’re with who refuses to communicate with you because he does not respect you enough to do so. I hope you’re in a better place living your life now. 🙏

      This is massive abuse! And it's honestly mind-boggling how common it is. By any chance are you coming from a Christian or some sort of other religious background?
      The ways men have taken the Bible and twisted everything up to suit themselves and to abuse and subjugate women to themselves is horrific on levels I have no words for. That is not what God intended for us or for marriage or even for men.

I would return the exact same energy and effort. Basically copy him. And then plan your exit if he doesn't understand through action what you are saying.
