I would only go into such detail perhaps once every 3 months. Other than that I take around 3 hours to do inside and out on most cleans/details. Car Cleaning Guru is only offering tips. Most of us don't have that much time to give up but certainly I use a lot of these techniques just not on every clean. As for the wife; I usually pack her off shopping when I'm really going for it with car cleaning.Downside is I then have to make my own tea!!
Same here. I'm going to give my new car rooty toot every three months and a good wash n wax once a week - mostly. Could not believe Car Guru spent 5 hours cleaning one car, though. Most time I spent on my previous car was three hours twice a year and normal wash most weeks. I do mine when my wife has gone to work and I have the drive to myself.
Just received my brand-new Merc with diamond cut wheels as your show in your video. I was concerned as I have seen some very poor conditioned wheels of this type with lacquer peeling off next-to-new cars. Great job and very informative and reassured this type of wheel can last with proper care. Thanks.

My 2016 GLE 450c AMG is going to benefit from your wonderful detailed instructions. Wish you were in El Paso, Texas you would be my personal car detailer! Thank you, well done. Rose
OMG! the Queen of England is going to hire you Car Cleaning Guru. I thought I was the king detailing a car, but the work that you did on those wheels certifies you as the King of Wheel detailing. I have never cleaned the wheel well of my car. The first time you sprayed the wheel in my opinion that was super clean and I wasn't expecting you to go beyond that point.
Now that's what you call cleaning to perfection! Very well done. I'll watch again, play and pause while I do my wheels. Thank you so much. I've learnt so much from your video. Can't wait to do my Z4 wheels which are similar to your wheels in terms of black polished finished and some diamond cut chrome finish. I've seen many wheel cleaning videos on UA-cam. Nothing compares to what you have demonstrated. Thanks a billion.
Dwell, attack, bite, loading, lubrication, bent, lug nut, branded centre cap, contours of the wheel design, usefully long skinny arms and the design of the wheel permits, brief blast, quick tea break, worked in with fingertips, accessed using my finger, damp winter air, fully cure prior to buffing......are all things I never thought I would hear when I started watching this video!
Wow that's pretty thorough. I don't need to go through all of that with my car because it's cleaned regularly and my aftermarket wheels are only 2 years old. Half an hour on them every 2 weeks keeps them in good shape. I'll wax them with Collinite every few months as well.
Alrighty... Done with one wheel, 3 more to go then to wash the car a quarter panel at a time. Hopefully the customer won't need the car back before next year.
"me-THODICALLY". Seriously though, applying a finishing product to the inside of a wheel arch? Holy overkill, batman. for a real show car, I can understand being this METHODICAL, but for a factory Mercedes? 20 minutes PER WHEEL??? I salute you, my friend, you are FAR more patient than I will ever be.
+Jed “D4M4GE” Cheyne This was the first (and probably last) time this was done to this particular car. I was merely using it as subject matter to illustrate the process to others who might want to go that far with their own vehicle.
Great post. Thanks for your in-depth instructions and explanations on your videos. You definitely know your stuff when it comes to detailing. I like the tips you give on the various types of cleaning and polishing/waxing you do. I am only a "weekend enthusiast" at home or I might help friends detail their vehicles and I have picked up quite a few "tips" from your videos on making my own detailing work a little easier or better. Thanks again for posting. And thanks for posting the various different types of products you utilize as well, that is VERY helpful. Unfortunately, a lot of the products you use aren't available in the USA so I have to find an alternate solution. One product I do like that you utilize is the "TFR-Traffic Film Remover". Unfortunately again, those too are not yet popular in the USA and we don't have them here yet. I really would like to get my hands on some Auto Finesse Avalance Foam but they don't sell it here. I did find that Poor Boys World has a Bug/Grime remover that they also advertise as a "TFR" product so i'll probably give that a try. I like the idea of first spraying down the vehicle or wheels with a TFR product and allowing to dwell and loosen up the grit/grime/dirt/muck, then pressure spraying it off before going into the actual wash phase of the detail. It takes me the better part of a day just to get the decontamination done on a "first detail" of a vehicle that I do. People don't realize how long it actually takes to fully decontaminate a vehicle (although I'm sure you do). My DECONTAMINATION Routine on a vehicle is: 1. Pre-Rinse the entire vehicle with a Pressure washer. (I will be adding some sort of Traffic Film Remover stage to my routine here with a pressure rinse in between). 2. Foam the entire vehicle down with CarPro Iron-X Foam Wash or similar product. (Thinking about switching to Gyeon Foam). 3. Thoroughly rinse with pressure washer and then apply CarPro TRIX Bug/Tar remover product to any visible tar spots or bug guts. 4. Do tires/rims here by applying a tire cleaning specific product (I like Brown Royal from Flash Wax which is an INCREDIBLE tire/rim cleaner and safe on all wheels as it is NON-ACIDIC). Use about 10 different tire/wheel brushes to throughly clean the wheels, tires, rims, arches first before moving on to the body of the vehicle. I always try to get the wheels done first using a specific wheel bucket and tools that I only use on wheels/tires and keep separate from my vehicle body materials/tools. After wheels/tires are clean, apply Sonax FULL EFFECT PLUS wheel cleaner or Sonax Fallout Remover and allow to dwell to remove iron deposits and leftover heavy brake dust not removed by the Brown Royal. Full rinse using pressure washer to ensure squeeky clean wheels and tires. 5. Wash entire vehicle with Chemical Guys Citrus Wash RED and a Nanoskin Wash Mitt in place of a normal sheepskin wash mitt using two bucket method. I use the Nanoskin Wash Mitt here as a sort of "pre" clay stage. It doesn't remove as much as a full claying of a vehicle or the Autoscrub system but it does definitely remove some of it and helps as a pre-remover getting some of the larger contaminant "bits" on the surface of the vehicle paint and glass. 6. Rinse with pressure washer 7. Clay or Nanoskin Autoscrub the entire vehicle (Lately just using DA polisher and 6" Autoscrub disc) and then using the smaller AutoScrub hand blocks for the more intricate areas. All applied using Autoscrub GLIDE as a lubricant. 8. Spray an Iron Remover product all over the entire vehicles painted surfaces and glass. I am using SONAX Fallout Remover lately which I really like because the smell is WAY better than that of Iron-X or any other Iron remover products. I really like the Sonax Fallout Remover and I give it a BIG thumbs up as you can use it on both painted surfaces AND glass! It emulsifies all the iron and embedded debris turning the well known purple color when it reacts and it also decontaminates the GLASS and softens and eliminates any debris and gunk on all the glass and mirrors around the vehicle getting them squeeky clean and ready for glass polishing and sealant application. I do polish the glass surface using Griots Garage Glass polish/discs and a DA polisher. 9. Rinse thoroughly using a pressure washer to remove all of the Iron remover product residue 10. Re-Wash vehicle using a good quality car wash soap (I have about 10 different kinds which is nuts I know). 10. Thoroughly dry the vehicle using an leaf blower (Although I am wanting to upgrade to a Metro Air Blaster unit) It's probably overkill, but that is the way I do what I call a full "decontamination" of a vehicle prior to machine compounding/polishing/sealant application. Then the interior is a whole other story! I usually reserve a whole other day for tackling the inside of a vehicle doing a full cleaning of the interior. Great job on your videos!
Excellent video. Ive found that using extra gloss protection on the alloys helps to not only seal the polish, but its also a lot easier when clesning the wheels the next time. Subbed!

I’ll take a wild guess and say you’ve never done a complete wheels off clean then huh. I’ve spent the better part of 8-10 hours on my wheels before and I could have gone longer
@@G17-911 There is a point of diminishing returns, but ensuring you don’t hit that point all rests on your ability to understand what’s realistic and what’s not. “Technically” you can get your wheels “perfect” if you put in the time and have the expertise, but if you really want to clean, enhance, and protect them to a point where regular maintenance is simplified for years, it’ll take about 1.5-2 hours per wheel

Good vid. I think getting the wheel off the car would have made this easier, quite a bit easier, and also allow for protection of the inner wheel. On this, the inner wheel is painted so dark however (and its a personal view) a pristine light-coloured inner wheel makes the wheel look much lighter (in weight). For protection, Collinite 845 is the best sealant I’ve used. I may try ceramic one day - but I’ve a lot of Collinite left. Great vid.
Question: do you ever throw your microfibre towels, and microfibre pads into the wash? if not, what is the best way to wash them? I have towels for different tasks too, but over time i think i start to get some mixed up because they are generally the same colour. also one of the towels i use for polishing has compound that has dried up and become a little hard on it. is there a way I can easily wash as remove it? Look forward to hearing from you!
really appreciate the reply, also ive already liked and subscribed! love your work mate, and love how you show all the detail. don't cut those parts out. Cheers, Fan from Sydney, Australia
Joe, do you ever consider taking wheels off for a job like this one where you're going all balls out? If not mistaken you did a video where you had a range rover's wheels off for cleaning the car
Nice video can I ask if your bendy wheel brush has a metal spine? I have seen a few in shops and they all seem to expose the frame to the alloys when used (and possible scratches) we have a quashai with 18 " alloys that I find hard to get to the inner wheel and back of spokes. as your products are pro products could you recommend a wheel brush that you use that won't contact the wheel with a bare metal frame. cheers and keep detailing
I think it's twisted around the bristles but it's plush enough to prevent against contact with the wheel, I've certainly has no issues with it. You might want to look at wheel woolies too.
From not drying my wheels after washing my car there are rust spots behind the wheel infront of the break disc and tips on how i can get the rust off. Any tips on drying behind the wheels aswell please
Great video and really helpful. Wheels do get overlooked unfortunately by a lot of people. Is there a particular product you recommended for tar spots on wheels, as I don't want to waste money on something too aggressive or not strong enough. Also do you have any views on Farecla products? I have bought some and really am impressed with the finishing wax. Keep up the good work. Love your videos.
Nice one, another quality detailing! Here's a general question, on buffing is it possible to buff to hard so you can buff product away? Just something cross my mind when I was buffing the wax off. Any idea...
woncho1 I'd say no to that. Even though the visible layer of product residue may have been removed, theres still a very thin layer that should have bonded to the paintwork which a buffing towel alone won't be able to remove at that level.
Great video! I got similar alloy wheels on my motor but I haven't got the dedication you have :) If I clean my alloys in 3 stages what products do you recommend? That's apply cleaner then a polish then apply a protection coat.
@Car Cleaning Guru - great video and i love your videos they're informative and really easy to follow> Love your tattoo of "Mr Barlow" from Salem's Lot.
You said you use your own cleaning solution to remove the brake dust, etc. What do you think is the best over the counter brake dust remover product? I've tried them all, it seems, and none are 100% effective. Thanks.
Could you recommend a decent brush for narrow spoke alloys? Something from Amazon would be great for me if that’s possible .. Thanks for all your videos, so helpful 👍
+Totally Legit Gaming [TLEG] any rotors i have seen get rusty just over night after being used. as it burns any protective layer off and leaves bare unprotected steel. also rarely see them that smooth. always seem to have slightly uneven wear across the rotor face from the pads.
Thank you for another awesome video! Whenever I wash the wheels, the brake rotor gets rusty and yellow, which is normal on naked metal. After short trip and braking, it goes off and I wipe the barrels with a detail spray and MF. I noticed you don't have yellowing here, what's your procedure on that??
Excellent demonstration video my friend.....You mentioned trade based wheel cleaner, which one would you recommend? I just bought a new VXR with Diamond cut alloys and want to look after the wheels properly right from the start. I clean my motorcycle alloys with WD40 but this takes time to clean everything. Can you recommend a good cleaner....Many Thanks
+Cbf1A I use Autosmart Smart Wheels through a foaming trigger spray head (which I recommend). Valet Pro Bilberry is similar and can be had in 5 litres although if the car is new and you polish and seal the wheels to begin with you shouldn't have to use anything other than a standard shampoo if you clean them fairly regularly.
Hi there, thanks for your video. I want to clean and protect my wheels but I've found on a previous car that some cleaning products for alloy wheels can be too aggressive. I had a BMW 318ci with M pack wheels that were fantastic but over the time that I had the car, the alloy surface deteriorated. A BMW dealer and others I have spoken to said it could be due to aggressive chemicals I was using to clean the wheels. I can't remember the brand I was using then but I was wondering what you recommend and i see you are using Autosmart and Autoglym products. Do you endorse these products and are they typically what you use? Thanks so much for the info! Denise.
I generally use Autosmart Smartwheels but it isn't available over the counter. If you polish and seal your wheels after an initial thorough clean they should come up using just normal shampoo provided you don't leave then too long.
Cool, thanks for replying. I ordered P21S 12700W Carnauba Wax on amazon and Wheelwax together so I hope these are good products for my car. I know the carnauba wax is harder work and doesn't last as long, but I heard it gives a superior finish. Many thanks for your advice and good videos! Keep the videos going, we appreciate them :)
HI guru ,i have skoda wheels like this.i just cleaned them today.power spray ,with foam at petrol station.then i used a alloy cleaner spray and agitated them.then i removed rest of dirt with some mantis.i used a soft alloy brush.used microfibre cloth with mantis.i noticed on the drivers alloy when two fines line scratches on the chrome a few centimetres down from the top of the rims .Not deep.but could i have done this or is it just that i was driving around with dirty alloys.i live in area of countryside where there is a lot of dry dirt cause by many trucks in the area?the car is only 4 months old

Cheers,
Fan from Sydney, Australia
Great wheel cleaning video! Question, what were the two types of cleaners you used ? And which do you use first? Thanks!
Joe, do you ever consider taking wheels off for a job like this one where you're going all balls out? If not mistaken you did a video where you had a range rover's wheels off for cleaning the car
Is tea necessary before applying protection on wheels?
Nice video
can I ask if your bendy wheel brush has a metal spine? I have seen a few in shops and they all seem to expose the frame to the alloys when used (and possible scratches) we have a quashai with 18 " alloys that I find hard to get to the inner wheel and back of spokes. as your products are pro products could you recommend a wheel brush that you use that won't contact the wheel with a bare metal frame.
cheers and keep detailing
I think it's twisted around the bristles but it's plush enough to prevent against contact with the wheel, I've certainly has no issues with it. You might want to look at wheel woolies too.
thanks for the reply and advice.
From not drying my wheels after washing my car there are rust spots behind the wheel infront of the break disc and tips on how i can get the rust off. Any tips on drying behind the wheels aswell please
+James Landale Try a standard paintwork polish first. And look into the Metro Vac'n'Blo for drying. I need to get one myself.
+Car Cleaning Guru. please do a video on car wheels with rust on
grease or vaseline soften rust .leave on a day and wipe off.it will remove rust.
What (if anything) world you recommend to put on a brand new chrome wheel?
Great video and really helpful. Wheels do get overlooked unfortunately by a lot of people. Is there a particular product you recommended for tar spots on wheels, as I don't want to waste money on something too aggressive or not strong enough. Also do you have any views on Farecla products? I have bought some and really am impressed with the finishing wax. Keep up the good work. Love your videos.
When you say 'painted wheels' does that include powder coated? Cheers.
If you clean the barrel of the wheel1st are you not pulling loads if dirt onto the face of the wheel and the rubbing it in?
What tfr is safe to use on a chrome and painted wheel :) hope you can get back to me.... great vids
Nice one, another quality detailing! Here's a general question, on buffing is it possible to buff to hard so you can buff product away? Just something cross my mind when I was buffing the wax off. Any idea...
woncho1 I'd say no to that. Even though the visible layer of product residue may have been removed, theres still a very thin layer that should have bonded to the paintwork which a buffing towel alone won't be able to remove at that level.
is there anything worth putting on normal steel painted wheels to seal or help brake dust sticking...or not worth the bother and wash more often
Enjoy the after shots especially the ones with the kirbed alloys 🙁
hi, what was the polish you used before the poorboys?
Great video! I got similar alloy wheels on my motor but I haven't got the dedication you have :) If I clean my alloys in 3 stages what products do you recommend? That's apply cleaner then a polish then apply a protection coat.
I really rate maguires ultimate wheel cleaner, spray on let it dwell, power wash off and it’s done, then I get on with life n stuff.
@Car Cleaning Guru - great video and i love your videos they're informative and really easy to follow>
Love your tattoo of "Mr Barlow" from Salem's Lot.
Thanks for information you shared. As I live in Dubai can't order Autoglym Super Resin Polish.
Is it OK if I use Meguiars ultimate Polish instead ?
A lot of work, but looks amazing! Great job brotha!
You said you use your own cleaning solution to remove the brake dust, etc. What do you think is the best over the counter brake dust remover product? I've tried them all, it seems, and none are 100% effective. Thanks.
I'd get grab something online. Valet pro Bilberry, Meguiars Wheel Brightener, CG Diablo... loads to choose from!
Would you recommend steam cleaning painted and diamond cut wheels like this to remove stubborn tar spots.
Could you recommend a decent brush for narrow spoke alloys? Something from Amazon would be great for me if that’s possible ..
Thanks for all your videos, so helpful 👍
How does one go about keeping their brake rotors that shiny if the vehicle is being driven ?
+Izuzan By USING your brakes regurlarly. Don't coast, brake!
+Totally Legit Gaming [TLEG] any rotors i have seen get rusty just over night after being used. as it burns any protective layer off and leaves bare unprotected steel. also rarely see them that smooth. always seem to have slightly uneven wear across the rotor face from the pads.
your videos are amazing my friend :)
In the DSM 5, under the heading for OCD, there is a link to this video.
Smashing! Those barrels were very dirty.
This was a superb video, great work!
how often should the wheel Sealant be applied
Great video, may I ask would you wax your wheels? And what's the difference wax/polish
just stumbled on this shame you ve not polished and sealed the barrel though seems a bit pointless doing it just to look good ?
How much time do this proces take? For detailing ONE wheel
Yesterday, I clean my rims, but I couldn't remove some small black dots. Any ideas of chemical or technic to do that?
Would have been easier to remove the wheels first, very detailed job
What compound did you use to polish the wheels
Well done. Merry Christmas.
Do u use undercarriage spray for wheel wheels?
+Erica Arevalo Usually just a traffic film remover and/or diluted all purpose cleaner.
I have yellow corsa it's like washing a white car hard to see tar spots and it also needs a good clay bar .
How to remove the residue of balancing weight stickers on painted wheels?
How do you clean in the wheel arches if they are lines with a fabric material?
+Nicholas Rogers Same way I would clean them if they weren't lined minus the dressing part!
Thank you man. Love your videos btw :)
Is there a cermic coating product you can use for a new set of diamond cut wheels that stops the clear coat chipping?@car cleaning guru
I’m not aware of any with anti-chipping properties, no.
Car Cleaning Guru ok thanks for getting back to me
I just got a pressure washer when I blast my wheels it takes all the brake dust off but would I still need to wash them
That's entirely up to you. Ideally yes but if you're happy with the results why bother?!
HI guru ,i have skoda wheels like this.i just cleaned them today.power spray ,with foam at petrol station.then i used a alloy cleaner spray and agitated them.then i removed rest of dirt with some mantis.i used a soft alloy brush.used microfibre cloth with mantis.i noticed on the drivers alloy when two fines line scratches on the chrome a few centimetres down from the top of the rims .Not deep.but could i have done this or is it just that i was driving around with dirty alloys.i live in area of countryside where there is a lot of dry dirt cause by many trucks in the area?the car is only 4 months old
do you fully do thé Wheels this way and then clean the whole car?
Except for the polishing and sealing which comes after the rest of the car.
banging cracking job doing my exterior tomorrow inside done today
brilliant step by step video!!! thanks , question is tfr the same as apc? and is detailing spray the same as something like autosmart aquawax ? thank you in advance
Keep the videos coming! Love your channel!
Can you recommend a decent wheel cleaner/brake dust remover. I have used wonder wheels on many of my cars & I'm convinced that it damages the painted finish after while. You say you use a Trade Cleaner, is this available online?
im using scholl concepts rim7 its probably the best one i've ever used.
