This is what UA-cam was meant for. Simple and direct instructions. Good stuff.
Exactly, amazing video
Dead right! As 'Absorber of Light' said in one of his CNC router build videos: he learned everything he needed for the project from the "University of UA-cam". :o)
Bomb paint, good stuff?

the first ever yt video was actually someone at the zoo. but yt is great place to learn things for free. but it also has many other purposes for sole entertainment. that’s why yt is so fucking awesome
Minus the accent, I agree.
Hello and THANK YOU for making this video. My monster personal mobility power wheelchair had lovely chrome hubs - until I was first teaching myself to use the joystick control and skidded a little bit in tighter cornering or doorways that are really narrow. THIS is the perfect answer to fixing those few sad issues and make her all new and shiny again!
Deck of cards and stuffing the back of the alloy with plastic sheeting to protect the brake system - absolutely genius. What a brilliant demonstration.
That's one of the best card tricks I've seen in a while!
people don’t realize how it can be easy but “we” people are the ones who hit in the wallet by repairing the wheels. But this guy showed us how it’s amazing how we can save money. Thank you, for sharing this and showing how to repair the wheel
Gonna try my hand with my red sport rims
@iatealready I'm sure most people won't want to be bothered with doing it themselves. It takes time, effort and patience to do it yourself and it's often easier just to pop in or drop off the vehicle and have someone else do it all while you're at work, etc. But for those of us who are struggling financially this is a life saver.
I have to say I'm absolutely astounded by the number of comments on this video. Who knew so many people were interested in DIY fixing curb rash on their rims? Makes me feel better to know so many of you actually have curb rash just like me and now I don't think I can be bothered fixing it because I will only cry if I go to so much trouble, do a great job and then curb 'em again soon after!
Late to the party - but great vid! Simple, easy...inexpensive...doesn't require much in tools or equipment. Perfect! My old car had one wheel scuff and I just lived with it for years.
You left it alone for years, did rust form on the scratched area?
@@DOOMPASSERS No, it was garage-stored, never saw salt and always kept clean. Not a speck of rust.
I restore alloys for a living and I’m very impressed only thing I would say is if you’re doing it at home take the wheels off and spray them flat on their backside so you get less runs on the clear coat, mad 4 motors is a very experienced man 👌🏻

The hardest part for me is getting my wheels clean enough to start.
Any tips on removing the ground in stuff?
@@ReheatedDonut we use a DA sander with p 80 grit
How much does once charge to do this ?
@@LJINGVES £100 plus vat a wheel for powder coat and diamond cut
Did this myself after watching your video. Saved me hundreds of dollars! Thanks a lot!
I love the trick with the cards. I honestly would never have thought of that. Clever! Thanks mate!

It you do not have cards or masking tape, another idea, but messier, is to use some old jug of petroleum jelly to coat sidewall rubber only. Then any overspray can be wiped away after.
Probably because it's just as cheap to buy a roll of masking tape. Nice trick, but when there's a ready made product available for the job I don't really see the point.
Great video. Thank you. I refurbished the 4 wheels on my car. I bought all the material required for about £50. I took the wheels of the car to work on a bench and used masking tape and newspapers. Thanks again from the UK
Great now I gotta learn how to take the wheels off and then learn this video too 😂
I'm going to get to do this with my daughter over the summer. I bought a car that runs great but looks shabby, so I want to spend time fixing things that bug me! Thank you for the how to, and great tips!
Elaine
Simple video, no silly music, just , this is what you do, ! I like the card idea, I used masking tape previous to seeing this but would deff use the cards next time ....
Col Auty hate the crazy music

Used a tripod! And didn't try to do the work with one hand like 80% of the idiots on UA-cam do.

I find the best way to keep my wheels in perfect condition is to not let my wife drive my car.
Amen
InoxEdge How do you manage that since what's yours is hers and what's hers is hers? Lol! Part of the problem is the low profile tires they run these days.
Ah ha! yes! 👏👏
Divorce her already! Lol... Nah! She’s cool😎
Same here.
There's something magical to this, I just put my finger on it. Well done mate.
Lol omg magically delicious 😆 🤣 😂
I got a "rash" on a new Explorer ST and the new wheel would be $1200.00 bucks at my dealer. Ford dealer service advisor told me he had a service that could fix the wheel, but I did not believe it. He said I would never know the difference. He was right...and I could not figure out how he did it. This explains what the Ford dealer did, and I feel great understanding it now. Great video. This is why UA-cam is the best website out there.
i have scratched my wheels to bits just in the last few months prior to this they were immaculate. I didn't know this was even possible so coming across this video has been fantastic now i can fix it and no one will know how bad i have become parking my car!

Best video so far about diy wheel repair on UA-cam!
I did my 5 spoke merc wheels a few years ago, used the sparkliest silver I could get and polished the spokes to mirror finish using autosol then clear coat the lot. Looked the business.
any pics of your wheels
No like actually do you have any pics
@@countesszizou9132 I'm better at DIY than I. T.
How do I attach a pic?
Very interesting presentation, l especially appreciate the cards used to protect the tires. But seriously I didn't know one could repair scuffs on the rim. Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

When the job was finished, the car had been moved. The portion of the rim we were being shown, wasn't the repair.(valve stem location)
I was doing this (exactly same way) on my Renault Clio almost 20 years ago.
Only difference is that i was doing this on work bench
Good job...I like!
A Renault had alloys 20 years ago?
@@cattlewranglerwalsh116 Yes!
I Was buy second hand original Renault 'alloys' for my 2001 Clio with exact the same damages...and i repaired them on this way.
@@cattlewranglerwalsh116 My two Renault 25's (1986 and 1990) had nice alloys, of different designs. The 25 was made 1983-1992. Maybe alloys are like sex... every generation thinks they invented the idea! ;0)
That's what I call educational; great demonstration!
probably the best wheel fixing video on YT. Started doing this on my Audi but a truck wiped it out 2 weeks into the job. Now doing 2 wheels on a Cruze
I needed some advice and found the perfect video.. kinda clicked on it cuz I have a VW as well, pleasantly surprised when I got A+ content with no filler, just straight forward, detailed and knowledgeable information.. thanks for the help!
This video was really helpful to me as I really need to paint my rims but I don't own jack stands. Thank you so much for making this vid. You are a lifesaver lol.
It's amazing how many people need to feel the curb with their car to know where it is lol
Very nice job on the rim btw!
I used this video as a guide to restore my MK4 R32 wheels, ofc they have a lot more spokes but the video was very informative and now they look STUNNING
Extremely helpful and what a clever suggestion about using cards to mask off the rim ! Well done and big thank you ! Mike
He's now got marked cards for his next poker game.
Hi guys
I just made a video on Diamond cut/polished wheels which are on most modern cars now. take a look!
ua-cam.com/video/ALzC_DDoQXk/v-deo.html
Mad4Motors What was the clear plastic paper that you stuffed behind the wheel to cover the caliper and rotor?
Hi it was some plastic covering but you can use any plastic or paper will do
J.G. Brandon can start with 80/180 then 280 then make it dust/dirt free with thinner, use primer, then 360/400 sandpaper to avoid scratches, and paint.
Good job! I especially like the card trick. Will save me tons of time and 3M masking tape.

This will keep me occupied for a day or so while on lock down, luckily I have a fantastic wife who has given alloys loads of bashing of the kerbs cause she knew I would need things to do on lock down 👍
Could of done about 300 cars by now Ey haha

Thank you! I haven't ever thought of this as a means to repair three of my four rims but thanks to you I now have the knowledge!
I have VW wheels with this same finish that need a little help. I'm nervous taking on a project like this, fearing it'll end up looking worse. But this guy has a way of instilling a calming confidence for me. If the wheels work out then next I'll try completely rebuilding the rarest JDM car I can find!
Top marks to you...clever idea using playing cards...impressed..
Graham Schofield this idea has been out for yearssss.
Waste of good playing cards
thank you for teaching a clueless and broke 18 year old girl how to fix her ruined wheels this is a lifesaver
To beautiful to have messed up wheels
@Mr Hansen seriously tho👌🏼🤤🤣🤣I'd of done for free Haha
@Ash Moe yes sure im down to meet and date new people😉
Grace, your damm intelligence young lady to take on the job. Myself I've given up, my girlfriend has this OCD thing that she must be no more than 4" from curb.

I can't blame the curb rash on anyone else it was all me😜 I've been wanting to repair but didn't know what to do.
Great video thanks for making it, I got four wheels all waiting to be done 👍👍👍👍👍
Dude posted pure gold and everybody liked it! Just simple stuff that anybody can do and everybody benefits. September 2017 had good day in internet.
You did an outstanding job on this video!! So many, many times, UA-cam videos are so very sloppy - yours is excellent!! Thanks!
Wow! Thanks man. That’s amazing how that works! By the way, nice card trick! 😂
Great video! I like the simplicity, and the outcome speaks for itself! 👍
Great vid, fixed one of my wheels last week and it worked great. Thanks!
Honestly I was thinking to replace my 14 year old Corolla with new rim's as it has rusted at places. Now I will do make over myself. Thanks
Having just watched this brilliant video, which I found great in execution, information and clear explanations, may I encourage you to continue with educational videos like this as you have natural talent as a teacher/instructor, thanks and good luck!
I really appreciate you taking the time to right such a nice and positive comment!
Steve Wessex he’s probably a taurus
i was waiting for him to become sarcastic at the end. . Too bad he didn't.
Steve Wessex it looks horrible 2 months later. I did it and that’s what happened. All yellow
Wow thanks so so much for the time you put on your detailed explanation. This technique would work alright with matte wheels?
One for a good deal..picked up some beautiful OEM volvo wheels for the c30 (slightly rashed - 1/10th the price) - with the plan to refinish them, add new centers and lug nuts.. Loved watching this video, mesmerizing lol. Cannot wait to get started. The card trick is fantastic! Thanks.
I bought 4 x 14 inch mag rims from a local wrecking yard. Followed what the guy di on this video, and the end result was damn good, thanks all round
Excellent job! Well done. You’ve given me the confidence to have a go at my alloys. Thanks!
This is my question. Asking at a car parts store should give you the answer.
best card trick ive seen for a while
Best painter in my experience, I saw one of his videos almost 20 times, and was able to paint my son's car very successfully. I fix kids for a living but was able to paint cars. Thanks, my friend for the instruction.
That is awesome!
Clever! To buy new rims for an older car is too expensive. This little operation does the job. Well done.
I’m subscribing now. Great video, easy to listen and follow. Keep up the work
Your a top man showing everyone step buy step in best way grate help thanks buddy 👍🏾👊🏾💯
Very nice job and without even taking the wheel of, much less removing the tyre from the wheel.
Simple & clear instructions. Thumbs up😊👍
Great job! I had no idea a rim was repairable. Thanks for sharing!
Well done. Great informative clip. I am definitely going to give one of my wheels a go. Thanks.
I found a guy on Yelp that does this for a living. Does mostly new Audis for a dealership. I scraped one wheel pretty bad on my Lexus. He had a great mobile set up. Fixed it right on the street for $45 dollars. 30 minutes and a perfect match. 4 years later and I still have a very hard time finding the rim that he fixed.
it's true i'm the 4 years that passed
What a great find! Wish I had run into someone like that when my TT careened down a long, steep, snowy hill a couple months after I got it. I ended up buying snow tires of course to protect the remainder of the car and occupants but it was a horse out of the locked barn as far as the rims were concerned. Since this info/service was unavailable at the time, I painted the rims Alizarin Crimson (as in the song by Donovan Leitch ca. 1968) with the caps a very bright yellow. Blue first gen Audi TT (no air dam) so it was a truly primary clown car.
I was pissed until I liked it. But it cost a small fortune when the lease was up.
What an uncomfortable car.
Heather Herrington he doesnt do it anymore
Very informative video . Thank you . Love the accent. I could listen to you talk forever . Seriously good job . Helpful.
Typical of your videos, with complete information, and nice camera and audio work (smooth edits), as well. We subscribed.
Great video, card mask was genius!
Glad you liked it thanks!
Great video! After watching this video I've decided that curb rash isn't so bad after all. I'll just leave it.
Right?
Some people are picky about these things. Kind of like going to sleep with a clean face but then waking up with acne in the morning. I'm sure most would hate that. This is similar when you become more in tune with your car and it's image.
Removing curb rash definitely helps with resale value. Bumps and scrapes says a fair bit about how the car was treated. So taking the time to do this could be the difference between getting your asking price or not.
Lol
the repair video is more painfull than the memory hitting the curb
Underrated channel, thanks for the great advice
yes, patience is the key especially when you do all the 4 rims like i did, don't rush to finish it up within one day....take it one at the time, slowly, check what you've done, fix it if necessary and if everything checks out, get to the next step...thanks a lot, mate !
Appreciate your video. I didn’t know how where those scrapes and nicks got there until I saw this. I must have have hit a curb or two (or 3)🤦🏼♀️
Well yeah you're a blonde and a woman so...
Thats alright Cindy,My car has 4,trashed wheels.......You quite clearly drive better than me😉
Thanks for the video. I live in pothole city aka Chicago and as you can guess my AMG wheels needed some love. You weren't kidding about the clear coat being the hardest part. Wheels looked perfect again till laying down clear. Got to workout a couple runs. Doesn't help being a perfectionist lol. Great video
Did a terrific job. Good as new! Thanks for a job well done!
Good job, I like these videos where they don't feel the need to film their faces and give a boring introduction. I clicked on how to repair curb rash, and that's what you delivered
People laugh when they see playing cards in my mechanic and bodywork toolboxes, as if I plan of wasting time on the job by playing cards. I used them for masking bodywork, and also for things like getting the nasty grit sitting on a ring out from between a piston and the cylinder wall if I'm doing a head. Also pretty good for cleaning out dried buffing compound from between a fascia and a body panel. In a pinch I've used them as precise body filler spreaders and also as spacers when I'm putting a fascia back on. Pretty good and cheap tool.
For a more robust and reusable masking option check out these 'Professional Alloy Wheel Masking Cards': www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133458211009

I was just making sure I will do this right. I'm a mechanic student so I had the luxury to take everything off from the wheel. So I don't have to mask, even tho the blue painters tape does it. ( I still watched the whole video, very nice job on it.)
