OMG Brother thanks for the Video... came out of the woods from hunting and went to start my truck, and BOOM... WRONG KEY FOB. Thought it was the cold, so used the remote start to heat up the key and it worked. Thought I was done, NOPE! Went home, then went to go run an errand, WRONG KEY FOB! Then google searched for the problem, and watched your video. Thought, WTH.... opened mine up and it was a mess, dusty as hell! Cleaned it all out, and surprise surprise it WORKED!!!! Thanks, brother!!

What year is your truck and how many miles. I’m having similar problems 2017 Dodge ram tradesmen 60,000 miles. I just got back from hunting trip from the panhandle. Florida was in real rough terrain and muddy got back to work and I have no power in my truck.

Omg My hubbys 2012 ram 3500 has been parked For at least 6 m Would stay on or start Did this & It worked 👏🏽He does concrete So I’m assuming from key fob being in pocket or dirty it stoped working it was a hit or miss Sometimes it would start sometimes it would stay like Stuck or jump back from Run while driveling & Just shut off🤷🏽♀️ Again Ty & Hey Im super happy I was able to get it fixed ✊🏽

Seriously, thank you for your video! I spent an hour trying to figure this out and ended up having it towed to a shop but they could not look at it so I UA-cam this and literally 25 minutes and carb cleaner later I’m back on the road

I'm not trying to burst your bubble. All you needed to do is unplug the ignition module...wait 1 or 2 minutes and plug it back in. Or even an easier fix is disconnect the negative side of your battery for a few minutes till it resets and then reconnect.
I tried changing the fob battery with no luck. I watched this video a cleaned everything thoroughly with electric contact spray, no luck. I finally realized maybe I should clean the fob so I took it apart and sprayed the circuit board with the cleaner and it worked like a charm. So if your have difficulty after following these instruction clean your fob control board.
On the last trip I had to reinsert the key about 10-15 times to get it to read each time. Your video was the first the popped up when I searched for the problem. No visible dust buildup on mine, but I sprayed it thoroughly anyway. Put it back together and the truck is reading the key again! Thanks for your video. 2014 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins

I had the same problem and followed each step you did with no success. I was about to order a replacement ignition switch but tried one last thing. I removed the switch again then sprayed electric contact cleaner in the connector pigtail and the 4 male pins. I just reattached the switch to the pigtail and no more problems. It’s been working 5 days so far.

2020 Ram 1500 - same issue, first time it came up for me today. Intermittent reading of the key. Cleaned of the barrel insert, PCB and housing. Works like a charm. Saved my day dude, thank you so much for this fix 🤙🏻

I'm going to try this tomorrow. This is my first dodge. I'll never buy another one again. It's been less than a week since I bought it.
I have the exact OPPOSITE problem, lol.
Fobik will start truck when in ignition.
Fobik will NOT unlock, lock, panic, remote start.
However, when I press the buttons on Fobik , my dash lights up as if it wants to work.
(Brand new battery in Fobik)
Edit : *SOLUTION TO THIS IN REPLY BELOW*
Here's the fix that worked for MY issue... (2014 Ram , *Fobik* key)
Unlock doors manually
Turn 'ON' hazrads
Hold the 'Lock' on the fobik for 5 seconds
Now put the Fobik into the ignition and turn to the 'ON' position (NOT the 'run' position)
Click the 'Unlock' button on the Fobik that's still in the ignition. (You should hear it unlock)
Turn 'OFF' vehicle, turn 'OFF' hazards. Remove Fobik from ignition.
Hit the 'Lock' button (Locks will engage, and hazards will flash 2 times)
You are done.
Fobik has been reset/reprogrammed. And you didn't have to pay the dealership $120.
Edit : This works when you accidentally trip a safety mechanism that disables the fobik without knowing it. (can be for a multitude of reasons, TBH)

MJ!!! Thanks for the video. I was able to use Isopropyl alcohol, first I tried to use a Q-Tip and clean everything , but that did not work. I was at the F-It point and decided to pour it all over the circuit board and into the Fob Slot. After drying with compressed air the beast started up. I believe someone asked this previously, but since you cleaned this have you had any issues with it again? Thanks again.

This is great, for if I have a situation like this...... HOWEVER, I have 2 key fobs, one will work no problemo, while the other one won't work at all. How do I get the second one to work? The one that doesn't work is the one I gave my wife to use. Need to get this fixed

Awesome video. I got in my truck to go to work and nothing. I started checking all the fuses, luckily it was in my garage by all my tools. Couldnt figure it out because no one had my exact issue. All I did was blow it out. Didnt even clean it. BOOM!. NICE WORK man.

When having this issue, has your fuel cut off switch ever activated? When this happened with mine, it cut off the fuel supply and I would have to reset it before it would start.
Any recommended test/repair procedure for the push button start/rotary dial trans shifter for a no crank/ddial won't move out of Park?? 2014 Ram Laramie 5.7.Thanks

Thx for the Video, imma add this to the list of crap we should not have to deal with. pulled into a parking lot and then all the sudden the truck doesnt know i have a key, yet remote starts and locks/unlocks . completly stupid. I have a 2013 2500 but obviously its that same part.

I did the same thing worked for a little while now I press the lock or unlock button while starting it and it starts every time I also carry an extra battery just in case is yours still working?
What’s the 2wd for ? The 4 button?
2wd: 2 rear tires move under power of engine.
4wd: all 4 tires can move under engine power

What if one key works an one doesn’t, have changed the batteries in both units but one don’t work
The bad one probably lost its programming somehow

How dirty was it when you took it apart? I have a 2018 1500 with the same problems. Just watched this video went out to it apart and it didnt seem that dirty
@@scottmoyer47 mine didn't look dirty either, but I sprayed it out, let it vaporize off, and now it works again. Hopefully for a long time. I sprayed off the circuit card, both sides, and also the socket the Fobik plugs into.
I have the same problem but second key dont make difference. And i live in europe where its hard to get parts and reprogram

Thank you so much for posting! I haven't had this problem...yet ... with my 2017 Ram 1500. Good to know how to repair it. I'm amazed though, that dust can get inside that box when it appears to be sealed pretty good. Looking at the posts to this video, I guess it is. But, I now know how to fix it if it becomes necessary!!! Thank you again for a very thorough video on how to do this.

My truck scared the shit out of me today with transmission problem on dash. Was able to get home but when I turned off truck it did the exact same thing yours did, so I tried your repair and man it worked perfect. Now it’s back to normal again

Have a 2014 ram 1500, key isn’t responding with truck-also won’t turn truck on and trucks battery is good-got a new key and put the chip and new battery in it still nothing. Tried cleaning this copper coil in vid as well it was pretty dusty but no luck. Any idea what’s going on with mine?
Someone mentioned in the comments to maybe check for a loose harness by the pedals. Otherwise, I think dealership might be your next move :/
@@MJAltairy I actually fixed this issues last night- if you truck isn’t detecting the key fob in anyway even with a new battery in the key- Disconnect the truck’s battery terminals for 5 minutes, this makes the trucks system fully reset itself. When you connect the battery back both of my keys worked. Thanks for the input though I appreciate it.

My key fobs acting up… sometimes locks/unlocks and sometimes it don’t, all this with a new battery in both key fobs. About to try this out

What was your solution?
Pray that it unlocks, then when I exit the truck I started locking it from the inside then I would lock it with the fob. After a few days the fob started working lol I was too lazy to do what buddy did in the video.

This solved my problem. I had the same issue you did it seems; Fob would act up from time-to-time until it got worse and just stopped working the other day.

For anyone who has this problem, and this fix did not work I took my truck to the dealer and my key fob was bad. Had to order new ones. Before I got the new fobs I was opening my driver door and was unlocking and locking the doors multiple times I would then shut the door and the damn thing would start.

There are two types of problems. One is the key is not recognized at all. That is usually a fobix issue with a defective transponder chip. The other problem is that the vehicle recognizes the key but doesn't acknowledge when you turn the fobix.

Sounds like a dead battery in your key fob!
I used to work for a company that manufactured these ignition with the Fobik 1s. I was a quality control geek and my God, when I saw these things. I thought, why rely on a small plastic tabs to keep the key in and why are we not sealing these to keep the elements out?
Also, be extremely careful of the copper coil contacts. The strands are know to break easily.
My 2014 5.7 Big Horn was in a nasty front end collision..Tow truck guy used the bypass button to get it in neutral.It started for a long time this way.after a complete rebuild.I hit remote start.it made several noises.relays were making noise.It ha 0 power to dash ignition.what part was it that shut it down.could this be my problem? Please help

My 2012 Ram 2500 has the same issue. I removed it and sprayed it. It still doesn't recognize that the key is in the ignition with no start. Off to the dealer on a tow truck next week. Nice looking trucks with faulty ignitions. I am glad it is parked in an area of yard where it is not in the way and I have a second vehicle.

I had this to happen to me today. I found your video and realized that was the same thing that happened to mine. I took your advice and after getting it apart and cleaning it with electronics cleaner. When I put it back together it worked. Just wondering has the same thing ever happened again. We live on a dusty road. Thanks for posting your fix
Mine is doing this now, but if you keep playing with the key you should be able to get it started, at least till your ready to do the job.
