In 1910, pioneer aviator, Claude Grahame-White made a successful non stop aeroplane flight from the Halifax Racecourse to the Halifax Zoo. The racecourse was situated on the site of the current West End Golf Club at Norton Tower, it was originally called the "New Belle View" when it opened in 1878, it was a mile long and covered an area of 90 acres. Like the Halifax Zoo, the Halifax Racecourse was short lived, it closed in 1884, the grandstand had the capacity for 1000 spectators, it was finally demolished in 1913 to extend the West End Golf Club.
Cheer mate! I was born and raised in Siddal on Park Lane (Just around the corner from the former zoo). Played rugby as a kid on the rugby fields where the Siddal Rugby Club now sits. There is an old photo out there of a sign advertising the Zoo on the Punch Bowl that was at the bottom of Exley Bank (now gone).
Enjoyed that! I've sent you a map on insta pal... Looks like those woods had a few flat spots 😎 I've never been in them because it looks steep AF from the road! 🤣
Very interesting video, thank you. I have to admit that I sometimes close your videos half way through but this time I came back to watch the second bit when I had time! Keep em coming mate!
At 13.18 in the video a mouse or a rat jumps out of a opening in the rocks behind your left shoulder and runs of to the right of you , ironical that the video is about animals. Very interesting video.
@@matparks08 The elephant was a female Asian, her name is now banned, it started with N and ended with R, it used to be a derogatory name for a sub-Saharan African native. She escaped from her enclosure and was found sleeping in the flower garden.
