So much love for Lou’s sharing of his mindset work and resulting shifts. Very relatable for me, as I am in the early stages of a similar project. Also love how Dana articulated fulfillment being on the land despite missing certain conveniences. I feel similarly when I’m away from my off grid home! You two are inspiring to me on a deep level and I’m so happy you’re sharing your experiences, challenges and joys!

What stands out to me is that a couple videos ago, many commenters were coming down hard on Dana for sharing about her thought process and mindset shift, saying they can't bear another "philosophy" video. Now, as Lou is sharing his shift in mindset, all I read is praise in the comments. Don't get me wrong, the praise is more than deserved. Dana and Lou are both working really hard on the things they are building, mentally as well as physically ❤ But the double standard in the comments really stood out to me and I thought I'd make note of it. Now that that's out of the way, I'm so excited for this build! What an incredible video kicking off this huge project. And the way to adapt to things going wrong is something I'm practicing as well, and I think going with the flow is a wonderful way to navigate whatever is happening. Being together again on the land, you three seem so happy and it's beautiful to see. I'm so happy for you and excited to follow along as you hopefully pour the concrete for the workshop house in spring! And I really hope you didn't get scammed! Guess we'll see. Fingers crossed!

Honestly I feel like nowadays we see nature as something that limits our way of living. And ofcourse that is true, in winter and in a cold weather we can't do certain things. However I love how you guys together paused for a moment and thought what the winter could bring you guys rather than take away. And now you have this beautiful winter to enjoy as family❤️ We are part of nature and rather than fighting it we need to live together with it and take what it has to offer!

I really enjoy watching your family. You two seem to be really good and loving people, so I felt bad reading all those bad comments about your decision to move to your parents' house for a while. This is interesting. I am though slightly frustrated by the continued dual story lines that don't interconnect. We get either or side of things, with nothing that connects all the major players. It's your channel and you can structure it however you like, but I feel lost at times -- and slightly click baited -- when we're now back in October watching Lou dig a foundation while we have what in retrospect feels like filler from Dana being Dana. Lives are intertwined, not lived parallel. Or maybe you do live your lives in parallel construction. Dunno. All I know is I'm somehow left feeling confused and lacking in the joy I used to feel watching your channel.

I've been following you guys since the van life days and have been a patreon supporter on and off - I have to say that at this moment in the U.S. I'm finding it hard to connect with (especially white) homestead creators who just don't at all seem to be referencing what is going on in the world outside your land. It's such a difficult balance, I know, and you may have a sense that your audience comes to pages like this in part to get away from "politics." But we are living in an age of climate devastation, mass deportations, tremendous violence and responsibility and I feel like I'm getting the ick from creators who seem to be signaling that they're just going to spend the upcoming years not referencing that at all. Dana I was very moved by your video on moving away from strict veganism and the realization that you can't divorce yourself from processes of life and death that exist in nature - I feel like there is a parallel with homesteaders in the U.S. who seem to want to divorce themselves from the social systems that are visiting so much harm on so many. Throughout the country's history there has been the fantasy that white folks can disappear into the wilderness, make a life of self-sufficiency and not engage with those systems - but its not really reality. We're all complicit in them and we all have tremendous responsibilities to recognize that right now. I have huge respect for yall and would love to hear more thoughts going forward on how you balance your understanding of building a stand-alone life with your awareness of the wider world outside this beautiful corner of the world you are cultivating.

Why don’t you guys just buy a house

First it was VAN LIFE. Until it wasn't. Then it was BOAT LIFE! Just buy this book to help us get it. But after one voyage it was OFF GRID LIFE in Hawaii after selling the boat people helped you buy. Then it was TENT LIFE until it wasn't. Then SHIPPING CONTAINERS for sure! For a very short time. Now we need help building a house with the contractor sob story. And the scheme continues...I left this channel a couple years ago and just happened up on it again today. Y'all are just grifters and the people who send you money and fall for your flim flam are suckers

I was just thinking that if UA-cam shuts down for whatever reason, Lou and Dana would easily survive building and selling houses 😃🪚🏡
