Enjoy our brand new series with the legendary Godfather (aka Papa Shango, Kama Mustafa, Soultaker), exclusively on Title Match Network. Produced live in Las Vegas, April 2022.
Find out about the origins of the Nation of Domination faction. In WWF, the group consisted of Ron Simmons (Farooq), The Rock, Kama Mustafa, Mark Henry, Ahmed Johnson and Owen Hart.
Behind the scenes, Godfather reveals why Ron Simmons couldn't stand Ahmed Johnson. This is why Ron legitimately had Ahmed thrown out of the Nation.
The story goes that Ahmed accidentally injured Simmons during a match, putting Ron out of action for months.
In his first night back, Ron Simmons got his revenge against Ahmed Johnson. It wouldn't be long before Ahmed was gone from the World Wrestling Federation, before turning up at WCW.
We also discuss how the Rock fit into the Nation and how Vince McMahon pitched the idea to the group. Find out how the Rock was always destined to be the biggest star in the WWF.

Booker T to Stevie Ray during their Superbrawl match for the rights to Harlem Heat while wrestling Ahmed Johnson............Man, this muthafucka forgot EVERYTHING!!!! hahahahahah
Best description of Johnson's wrestling skill.
The Nation aka The anti Inner Circle. Everyone in the Nation got over. Inner circle only got Jericho over
Lol Ron Simmons is OJ’s doppelgängers
It's refreshing to see Godfather being relaxed and loving everything he did. It gets old seeing other vets being bitter about things.
Charles Wright is a bro, straight up. Met him at a fanfest and he was one of the most fun and genuine guys there.
You smoke that much weed...you're gonna be relaxed.
Yeah he’s had a good life and accomplished a lot. He seems real pleasant.
What does he have to be upset about? He was mid card at best
One of the very few that never bad mouthed Warrior.
His Ron Simmons and Paul Bearer impressions are quality!
Oooooh yeeeeees! He loves hoes!
Especially the the Paul bearer that’s pure comedy gold
The only thing missing was, "DAMN!"
Man I miss those backstage segments...
Seriously.
That Ron impression is on point lol
i agree lol
Fuck his ron simmons impression, his paul bearer impression was more on point!
Agree
And his Paul bearer 😄😄
Just seen The Godfather at the Hilton in Knoxville Tennessee a couple weeks ago eating in the restaurant with rikishi it was crazy seeing them like that
Ron Simmons, Godfather, and Mark Henry. You'll never see another team with such pure strength and power.
And Ahmed Johnson

Ron Simmons is perhaps one of the most underrated wrestlers. WWE truly slept on Ron in favor of Bradshaw.
ron simmons quit on the ‘E while bradshaw stayed thats why Vince rewarded him with the JBL gimmick and the belt
@@healthytrollmeister2665 and to be fair, JBL was arguably one of the greatest heels of all time during his title reign.... had every single wrestling fan in the world HATING him. Dude was a mastermind at playing that role.
@@D_2387 i always knew bradshaw as the black haired dude wit ron,,, wasnt till i kinda peaked in on wrestling like 12 years or more after i quit watchin, just for whatever reason, n i couldnt believe that jbl guy was bradshaw lol. he looked nothing like what i remembered bradshaw lookin like. crazy
BRADSHAW gave Vince tips on making money. I think it was like the stock market or something and as a result Vince loved him.
In fairness, Ron was much older, he was 45 and looking to retire when Bradshaw was repackaged as JBL who was 37
The Paul bearer bit almost killed me 🤣😭

Iykyk, I am just thinking of Undertaker promos at a strip club now,& it's either funny or morbid 😂
This man is 61 years old.
Black don't crack. 🙂
He also smokes mad weed so he might be stress free asf
@@Jahn_Pah_Jonz Sadly that's oversimplified nonsense. My neighbor is a 50 year old black dude. Very nice man but he looks 70. It's about how you live during your younger years.

My God, it is so great to see a pro wrestler who seems happy and talks about how he had fun doing his gimmick. Most guys are bitter, or they shit on everyone in the business, or they are obviously stretching the truth.
Just don't ask him about Stevie Richards.
@@Lunacyk oh why? He didn't like Stevie Richard's? I know he hates sunny with a passion
He smoked with my buddy at a BLP show. Juice Pro Wrestling has the clip. He hits a vape on 4/20 and blows it into the camera
Yeah, he’s such a dude! I had a huge smile on my face watching this.
Everyone wanted to be the top... But that's not realistic. A wrestler told a new guy if you want to go far just do what they want you to do. Then you'll get a good reputation that you're easy to work with and hire. Kurt Angle surprisingly just did whatever. So like here just be happy where you're at. make the most of it and you'll be fine!
Ron Simmons and Butch Reed made the tag team named Doom. They were so good in WCW. This was the era of the Steiner's, the Road Warriors, the Wild Samoans the Twin Towers etc... Great era for tag team wrestling and Doom were dominant as a heel team.
Doom was fucking amazing. I loved watching them.
Talk about 2 legitimately tough guys too!!!awesome team!!!!
Yep
Doom was always fun to watch
Managed by Woman as well
Doom was put together so that Butch could groom Simmons to be the world heavyweight champion
As a FSU fan Ron Simmons is one of my 2 favorite wrestlers with Steve Austin, Ron Simmons was the first Florida State football player to have his number retired.
Always loved this guy. You can tell it brings him a lot of joy to reminisce about his time in wrestling. And I think it’s hilarious that his wife helped him come up with The Godfather gimmick. What a great time it was.
The godfather gimmick would never be allowed today. The 1990s were awesome.
“Get on the HOOOOOOOOOOOOO train!”

He lived the dream 😍 🙌 ✨️ and walked away not many could do that.pimping ain't easy man remember that!
Don't forget to bring a bag of weed while you do 😆
I want to smoke a blunt of bud with him. He's so laid back.
Ron Simmons had legendary stories on his strength an athleticism, even when he was in college playing foitball..Crazy brute strength.
Said he's possibly strongest wrestler ever
Sam Houston endless talent
@@shawnprivate5322, no, that would probably be The Warlord that is the strongest or Mark Henry.

@RayTAllen dude I never went to bed after he wrestled. I thought he was under my bed. Especially after he made ultimate warrior have goo come down his face
WHAT!? That was him? Thanks for this info.
Met Godfather twice. Once at a signing and once at the airport in Vegas. Always a great guy. Didn’t want to hold him up at the airport though since I saw him once and I could imagine he probably had somewhere to be, but he was real laid back.
His impressions are the greatest! His Bearer though! 💯😂😂😂
I met Godfather at a hotel in Buffalo after a show. He was just as cool in person as he was in ring! t's great to see him smiling, alive and healthy!!
Ron Simmons is the Samuel L. Jackson of the WWE
Damnn
No Samuel Jackson is the Ron Simmons of the acting world. Ron was popular well before Samuel got a real role in Hollywood.
More like the ice t of wrestling

@@jamesnorton7601 Completely false
Godfather seems like he would be friends with everybody on the planet.
@Tim Bowen he has mentioned how there was no actual heat between the bsk and the clique... Obviously guys from each side had disagreements with guys from the other side from time to time, but they were not at war with each other or anything like that.
Godfather Savio Yokozuna and Rikishi actually saved the click when a bunch of locals in Nova Scotia were trying to start a fight with them. The Cadillac came screeching up and those four men got out before the locals hightailed it out of there.
I'm at The Godfather at a sponsored event... One of the nicest laid-back guys you'll ever meet... Got to talk with him for about 15 minutes and took pictures. If I were to party that's the man I have

BSK had some scary men running in that crew. The fact that a man as large as Yokozuna could move is nightmare fuel.

The Godfather was one of the Attitude Era's best mid - level characters. It was so awesome being a teenager during those years. Wrestling was the best ever then.
Here comes the Ho Train! Godfather's whole demeanor and disposition truly reflects his focus on leading a stress-free life. I love Bret Hart but it's always refreshing to hear a performer reflect on his career with such affinity and good humor. Keep rockin' brother!
To bad that gimmick wouldn't fly today. The 1990s were cool.
Man when godfather music played the crowd went freaking insane!
I always looked forward to seeing the new ho train passengers.
He had a run in each of his WWF gimmicks. I remember him cursing the Ultimate Warrior as Papa Shango, I remember him melting down the Urn as Kama, and I remember him doing the Godfather gimmick. The funny thing is he apparently feuded with the Undertaker in each gimmick too.
I believe they were great friends. I think they were riding partners.
Ron Simmons is one of the most legit tough guys to ever lace up a pair of boots in any wrestling promotion
Him and Hardcore Holly had my fav physiques. Ron looked like had on football pads especially in the acolytes
@@illprox9679 Was one of the only wrestlers Scott Steiner was legit terrified of, plus he looked out for his friends, Mick Foley would have been a lot worse off today if Simmons didn't reign him in with his crazy ideas for spots in their matches
One tough football 🏈 player in the CFL
Ron Simmons is a monster, a total badass he feared no wrestler. The man was all American nose tackle, man benched 600 lbs.
Ahmed was stronger than Ron imo. Ask Yokozuna.
@@sugs1191Ahmed got Fucked up by Ron too So what you saying!?

Godfather is such an amazing story teller and all around great human. Man, if someone could put together a Nation of Domination Round-Table .... it'd break the fucking internet.
Imagine they got the rock for it? Even without him it's awesome, but Rock shows up and you might actually crash the internet.
They had a table for 3 episode
The Paul Bearer bit caught me off guard 🤣🤣🤣🤣
LMFAOOOOOO yoooo that got me too the fact that Paul Bearer agreed Lmfaooooo

It's so crazy seeing wrestlers just being chill and themselves after seeing them play a gimmick for so long and hearing their actual voice. Taker really had me shocked.
He seems like he can be a life long friend once you meet him
That's probably why Take and him have been friends forever and a day. Theres a story about them driving in a blizzard. Undertaker was driving and doing a good job just going slow. Godfather was fuck1ng with him asking to drive. Eventually Undertaker said okay mofo drive....Godfather immediately ditched the ride. Lmao I can see the Undertaker do the slow head turn and just stare a hole through Godfather.
Papa Shango... In my opinion was his greatest gimmick of all time however underrated.
I didn't even know that was ever him until the rewatch. Im in december 1999 currently. I always liked Godfather but once i found out he was Shango i was like ah yea he scared me when i was a kid lol
Imagine if the WWF would’ve handled his character better. A coffin match with Shango & Undertaker on PPV would’ve been huge

The APA was awesome!
The joy that he recalls these stories with warms my heart. Glad he’s alive and healthy 🫡
I had the pleasure of meeting The Godfather “Charles Wright” at a baseball tournament recently in Arizona. He was walking with a cane, smiled and treated everyone who spoke to him kindly. After recognizing him, he smiled and shook my hand. I asked how he was doing, he said “I’m amazing brother. Would you like a picture?” Next to watching my son play baseball, meeting The Godfather made my weekend.
From the freak crazy scary guy papa shango to wonderful outstanding lovely fella love and respect to u godfather
You think he was papa Shango everyday even in his personal time. He may never know how he was outside of that character

I met Godfather a couple months ago and a very humble great person to talk to. I had my Niners hoodie on and he just gave me crap being a Raiders fan 😂. Literally spoke for a bit about his career. I would've bought him so many rounds just hearing his stories.
I loved him as Papa Shango. Was such a cool character
I'm happy he had creative freedom, very few men in the game have that gift. He was fun to watch, thank you OG!!!
Charles character of all three gimmicks was awesome just great worker in general than just being himself as the godfather that's awesome. And his impression on Paul Bear priceless.
I remember The New Day dressed up as all three of his gimmicks and they were on point!!
He does a real good Paul Bearer & Ron Simmons
PIMPIN AINT EASY!!! I once yelled that yelled that out at my job site when I was an apprentice Ironworker. Out of no where this old welder named Bob lifts up his welding hood and says “sh1t no it ain’t easy, they don’t like it when you take their money” I just stood there like

That's awesome.
Godfather here living one of the best lives available on earth. Has had a great run in wrestling, untarnished legacy, looks to be in great health, seems to be very well off financially, and is able to call Ron Simmons whenever he wants just to chat.
The Godfather was the most fun character in the attitude era. 🎉🎉🎉
I love listening to him. He was never a top guy but he is show so much love for the business. Wish more guys did that
Wasn’t a main eventer, but you’ve got to look pretty hard for someone with a bad word to say about him. I’m sure there’s one or two, but that’s a lot fewer than most. One of the most universally liked and respected guys from that era.

Probably gonna struggle to get all of them in a WWE ring. Dwayne would be both difficult to schedule and expensive, Mark is tied to AEW, D Lo is with Impact.

I would love to blaze and hear stories from this man all day!🤘
Simmons at FSU came in benching about 350 and graduated doing around 550. The average college offensive lineman was around 350.
In the NFL with the Browns they moved him to LB from Nt as at 245 pounds he was handled by NFL linemen as his short arms that were great in weightlifting pressing movements were a detriment in getting off blocks in the NFL plus thise NFL guys were as strong. Unfortunately, he was not made for a LB and was soon out of the NFL 0:35 0:35

I truly thought WCW was gonna put the belt on JYD in late, late 80s, may have been 90. It was huge when he showed up.
But, Simmons slamming Vader was truly epic! He deserved a run with the title.
I remember him talking about the Sidewalk Slam and how that's something you really do in a fight. And that's true, if you're big enough. :D
I'm sure he could do it better than most.
Omg! GF is chill af. Glad he’s doing well. His impressions of Paul Bearer and Ron Simmons is on point
If the goal of life is to be as happy as possible, I think Godfather is a guy who you can say has succeeded in life. I mean how can he not be? He got a bunch of money flying around the world, hanging out with his buddies, and playing a role that meant he mostly just needed to come out with beautiful women, have fun with the crowd, wrestle for a couple minutes and head right on back to get his pay. Sounds like a formula for a fun life to me!
