i have something to tell the Taco owner, my previous Taco 2008 was 425,000 some miles, now i just get 2019 Taco Off road.. i love it .. just get what it fit your need, style, hobbies, and enjoy it everyday driving....
I own a 2018 TRD Off-Road Access cab: absolutely love everything about the truck. Rugged, reliable....for a 4,500 lb. vehicle the mpg is good. At 5'10" , 185 lbs. the seats and steering wheel position fits me to a "T". Tacos have the highest resale of ANY vehicle; Toyota has 3 plants building this truck....but, still can't keep up with demand ! That should tell you something. Do your research. Test drive it. If it meets your expectations: buy it; if not......move on !?!?
This guy is clueless he needs to take it out of 4 wheel drive when driving on the street, also he doesn't understand who the truck is for, one thing I can agree on is the shifting on the transmission is abysmal but everything else is amazing I ended up putting 33s and icon stage 4 and it rides like a dream and likes to leave the ground occasionally 🤩
Would have made more sense to mention the 4Runner as an alternative for the same money rather than the RAV4...4Runner has a smoother powertrain and far nicer interior for about the same money and is frequently cross shopped with the Tacoma.
I drive 2018 TRD off-road Tacoma and my wife drives a 2018 TRD off-road 4runner and I prefer the Tacoma in every way, except for the rear seat legroom.
Am I the only one who actually likes the Tacoma interior? I mean, don't get me wrong I would never buy the truck considering the competitive set, but, in person, I love the dash and doors
domspar, I like it too. I shopped the GMC and Chevy at the time I bought my 17 Tacoma. The GM's looked like a copy of the old big GM trucks design - not fresh. The Tacoma is a nice design with all the controls right at hand. The only thing I will knock is the 4WD knob next to the start button - it should have bigger ribs on it to feel what it is.
I just bought a 2019 SR5 I really like his honest review I enjoy my truck it rides like a truck and I really like that and this is the first review I heard somebody mentioned how the truck shutters a little bit when you come to a stop I was a little concerned about it but now I'm relieved to hear it's a common thing a good review is very important
I just smacked a deer in my base model 2010 Chevy Cobalt LT and this is what I got for a rental. This thing drives like a dream compared to compared to the Cobalt. I feel it's much more quiet and I fell far fewer bumps. I've never been much of a tuck guy, but I love this truck. I think this all boils down to prospective. When you are use to driving more new vehicles, it might not seem as nice, but coming from a car that's 10 years old it seems like a great truck, and I love it.
I bought a 2019 Tacoma Sport 4x4 about 3 months ago and the acceleratoin is fantastic. Although people frequently doubt me, I think its because mine came with the TRD Pro Exhaust. I know people claim it doesnt do much but I really feel the extra torque and horsepower with the aftermarket exhaust.

I actually came from a 2013 civic coupe si lol. Now in a 2019 Tacoma, I personally dont think the taco cloth seats are as high quality and sound system is not better, but other than that the taco is an upgrade
TRD 4x4 Sport, Access cab, long bed V6 The perfect truck if you are not a baby hauler. Put a shell on it and you can sleep in it. Short wheel base for tight turns and off roading. When you are tired of big trucks, this was perfect for me. Cheers!
I have a 2018 and a 2010 and I have none of these issues, Been the best trucks ever, And great resale, My friend has a chevy colorado zr2 and he is having all kinds of problems.
If you never had a Toyota SUV prior to 2014 you will be surprised at what i am about to tell you. Just like my 1996 4Runner every time I looked around i would find something cool that Toyota included in the vehicle. The 4Runner had an ECONO mode with the automatic transmission that you had to select.or deselect. The selection was based on hauling cargo or you just wanted more get up and go.. My 2017 Tacoma Off Road 4x4 defaults to the "ECONO mode". Sure I get better mileage but it turns into a beast when you select the ECT power. Driving in traffic you will get better braking from the transmission as well as quicker response with ECT selected. Love my TACO.
No matter how much hate and criticism aimed at this truck coming out of these automotive 'journalists', Toyota keeps selling them like hot cakes year after year
You should try driving the 2003 4 cylinder Chevy S-10 like I've been driving for the past 15 years. I do tip my hat to the dependability of the S-10, but the comparison is like driving a Bentley vs a wheelbarrow. I'm loving my 2019 Tacoma. I'm happy my S-10 got me through college and served me well. As a matter of fact, now that I have the 2019 Tacoma, my S-10 is for sale. What would you offer me for her?
I have this same truck in Cavalry Blue to boot. At only 5'3" the seating is perfect for me but I can see how larger people may find it cramped and hard to find a good position. After driving sport compacts for 30 years I set my expectations low for the overall ride and handling. But I can tell you I find this truck exceeds expectations. For a pickup, it rides smooth and handles very well on the road. Even the choppy pavement in New England. It is my daily and have no problems living with this on a 60 mile commute each way. I have a manual so I can't comment on the auto. The manual is clunky at first but once you master it, it is smooth for a truck and enjoyable to drive. I average 20-22 mpg driving very conservatively. If Honda offered a manual in the Ridgeline it would have been a tough decision but Tacoma is a very nice truck indeed.
J Fazzuoli - I agree with you. I have a 17 version of the same truck. At 5'9" the seating works for me just fine. I'm in a mid-Atlantic state, and the truck handles all kinds of roads very well; better than the old Nissan Frontier I traded. Note that automatic shifting quarks are greatly improved by going to a aFe intake filter system. They claim an added 17 hp and 19 lb-ft torque. The added torque helps tremendously. The truck shifts better and takes climbs easier. I average 21-22 mpg overall, with 25-26 mpg pure highway, and as high as 28.5 mpg. I've done some mountainous, rutted washed out back roads (no rock climbing) and I feel more confident in this than a Ridgeline. I looked at the Colorado and Canyon as well. Three things swung me to the Tacoma. The rear seat storage areas, the amount of TSBs (service fixes at the time I bought - GM had 6, Toyota had 2), and just plain Toyota quality and resale.
Seeing as a LOT of people buy trucks to use as daily drivers, and nothing else (no offroading, hauling, etc.) this is a fair review point, especially given how popular tacomas are. The fact that so many comments got butthurt and defensive just kinda points towards the “cult” mentality.
Yeah okay as far the interior goes the only complaints I have it’s the steering wheel and seats adjustments or lack of. Otherwise, the rest serves its purpose of practicality and simplicity after all it is aimed to be a work and play truck. I use my 2016 TRD off road as such. MANUAL transmission works best on this truck. I have no issues with power whatsoever. I love my TACOMA
I've had my 2019 TRD off road 4x4 in calvary blue I and has been amazing. The Mts and crawl control sounds amazing but haven't used it. I will say it is better looking than the sport. Instead of a cheap plastic bumper thing I got a TRD PRO skid plate with red letters which is an awesome touch.
First off, 'Lifestyle" truck owner... What he really means, with his peat coat, half cocked hat, and skinny jeans, is status enhancer for the yuppy outdoorsmen/urban hipster. The Tacoma aka "The Taco" is not meant to be a "lifestyle" enhancer. It is for people that are serious about reliability and rugged handling both on and off road. It's not the prettiest bell at the ball, but she will get down and dirty where other mid-size trucks won't do so well without heavy modification and a hefty price tag. Take it from a guy that has driven a Colorado for 3 years and have finally seen the light. If bells and whistles are your thing and you have to brag about the feature to you family and friends to appear cool. Get ZR2 Colorado or a Off Road Ranger, they will get the job done just don't be too rough with them... they are sensitive when you push them to hard. Psss, it's a turbo charger thing.
This guy is crazy I just drove my brother’s 2019 TRD off road Tacoma access cab and I gotta say it was one of the best drives I’ve gone on in a while much smoother and way more quiet ride than my 03 Marauder(doesn’t mean it’ll be replaced!) or my girlfriend’s Mercury Grand Marquis for the matter! This guys one of those hyper sensitive hipster snowflake-millennials so don’t make fun about how his hat goes with his hybrid RAV-4 and or his Prius he’s hiding at home!
While I agree that the ride is "harsh", especially in my TRD Sport, I don't find that unappealing. It's a very capable truck that does very well at being a truck. I also test drove the Ranger, and while its power is appealing, the transmission was jerky and changed gears a lot of my test drive. It was very annoying. If you want a vehicle to coddle you while sipping your latte, get a car. Seriously.
Best looking vehicle on the the road IMHO. I bought my first Toyota 4x4 new in 1980 a 4speed Spot in dark blue for $6k. I'm now 66 & disabled and in love with the cavalry blue. I guess I'll just have to rough it in the 2019 RAV4 Adventure. The Toco is a beauty!
Good video review. I bought a new 2019 TRD pro last month with stick shift. I had a Tacoma Sport for a loaner for 2 weeks with an auto trans while I waited for my truck to come in. I really like my Tacoma but I agree with everything that was said in this videa. My manual trans gets 17-19 mpg and the automatic got 26-27 mpg. I dont drive fast and mostly just putt around but the motor feels under powered and 5th gear doesn't feel like it should be there. 1st gear is super super low. It feels like a granny gear and the truck really doesn't want to pull out in 2nd but I love it regardless. I think it is just my love for 🌮's . I also don't care for 300-330 miles per fill up. My F150 had a 36 gallon tank and got 830-860 miles per tank (3.5 Ecoboost)
While I mostly agree with the overall message here, I will say I think we've gotten a little soft over the years. I remember back when my brother (10 yo) and me (13 yo) crammed into the tiny back seat of my parents' 1991 extra-cab Toyota pickup. It had a little 22re and manual locking hubs. It was our main family ride and damn, we had a great time in that thing
I have the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4 wheel drive sport with the tech package and letter all that I agree with a lot of what you said and what I find especially annoying is in the charging station that stupid light that all is always on whenever you're driving at night it's annoying he can't even turn the damn thing off the four-wheel drive capability of my opinion is limited but it is barely sufficient fuel economy is horrible and I regret buying my Tacoma I want to get rid of it sell it not give it away and maybe upgrade to something better or just right Toyota off all together
Things i never considered when purchasing a truck. Fuel mileage. Driving on streets. Tech. Things i do consider. Off road capabilities. Durability/reliability . payload what can i tow or store in bed.
What a wimp. "I wish it had parking censors in the front"? Obviously you shouldn't be driving any truck. I've got a 2018 TRD Sport 6spd manual. 3" lift on 33's and I've suffered none if these issues. Enjoy that check from Chevy.
Completely agree with this review 💯. Among the more honest reviews of this truck, finally! So tired of hearing reviews praising this truck for how wonderful it is off-road and disregard mentioning the truth of how awful it is as a daily driver.

I don’t own a Tacoma but the sales results speak for themselves. On a side note, I’d like to do a review on that beanie-hat thing you are wearing.

I like my Tacoma in New England the tires it came with are junk and got wild peaks made it ride nice and great on Construction sites and off road and snow It has 30k on it and no issues
I agree with everything except the part where you called the transmission clunky. That’s just a blatant lie. It is not clunky. It shifts smooth and calls up downshifts perfectly. It’s not a sports car after all, it’s a truck. Quick rev matching downshifts was not on the menu when they drew this truck up my friend. Other than that, plastic interior? Yup. Weird seating position? For some yes. I fit just fine. Lowish towing numbers? Yup. But if you need to toe more than 7,000 lbs daily you really should be shopping in a different segment. Crappy infotainment? Yup. Basically everything else is true. But the Taco looks cool and offers a manual. And as long as it get those two things right and offers a totally bad ass TRD Pro model it will ALWAYS get my vote over the competition lol.
Toyota is like apple, year after year falling more behind compare to the competition. I had one and I regretted quickly, got rid of it and got a f150 and I am supper happy!
Goman Hope you enjoy your F150 too. When it comes to cars, most people simply buy what they want. You can argue numbers all day long, but at the end of the day people just want to drive what they want. My wife bought a loaded C-HR for $30,000. I told her she could have gotten a CX-5 and she says “nope, I like the C-HR.”. You may think Apple doesn’t innovate, I think their products are simple, well engineered, and Apple stands by their products. I don’t care that the F150 has “the most torque”, I don’t care that a Galaxy has a stylus or another phone has 7 cameras, I don’t care that Range Rovers have two infotainment screens and air suspension, I don’t care that the Ridgeline rides like a car. I don’t care that the F150 is made from military grade steel and has a fully boxed frame and “IT DOESNT RAISE THE BAR, IT IS THE BAR PAL!!” or whatever that commercial says... lol. I just want what makes me feel the happiest. Tacoma = happy. F150 = cool trick man

Everyone has a different experience with their pickup. Mine is if I want to haul my dump trailer loaded then I use the Cummins. If I want to get up in the mountains I use my Jeep. If I want to drive to the moon I use my Tacoma. And I bet it could come back too!
I love the steering wheel positioning in correlation with the seat. In most new cars, i can't find a comfortable medium, which really gets on my nerves. In all my cars older than 2010 it's fine, but for some reason after that (and its mainly in Asian cars) there just isn't a good medium for me to be comfortable. But my tacoma, i love it
So many angry truck nerds seem to have missed the part of the review where he said he's looking at it as if you bought it for a lifestyle vehicle (meaning, to flex), not practical reasons.
I wish they didn’t make the Cavalry Blue available for the Sport. I wish it was still only available for the TRD Pro. It looks sick with it. Voodoo Blue is too much blue for me. My opinion though.
I got a 2018 taco TRD Sport. Overall I like it but the transmission is pretty crappy. However there is a button labeled “ECT power” near the wireless charging station that partially fixes that problem. Great vehicle otherwise.
Honest and good review. I own '17 Tacoma TRD Off-Road with Premium package. And it is my daily driver (I'm 5' 11"). Most of those mentioned points are true. It's a truck where you would have to adjust your driving habits and position a bit if you want to keep this truck. It's not like you get a Tacoma and expect it to be the same as your previous vehicle. It definitely requires some changes. However, if you can overcome those "obstacles" then it's a great truck to have. I love every bit of it. It is a very basic truck when you compare its "features" to modern standards. Nonetheless, it's a Toyota and I know it will never let me down! Thanks for the review! 👍

I love driving my Tacoma TRD Off Road
OFF ROAD>SPORT
Omg, this guy. The hat, the facial hair, the “act.” What a poser. Makes my generation look even worse.
Thank you for recognizing this. That is exactly what I was thinking as I watched this horrible review.
Mazen Ahmed however, he is correct saying that fuel economy is poor. I have a 2017 Sport trd and I can say that there are V8’s that burn less fuel. Still, the truck is great.
And their EVERYWHERE
yea he crying about apple and droid apps not there WHAAAAAAAA go buy a computer with an engine
there is nothing wrong with facial hair guy
i have something to tell the Taco owner, my previous Taco 2008 was 425,000 some miles, now i just get 2019 Taco Off road.. i love it .. just get what it fit your need, style, hobbies, and enjoy it everyday driving....
Did you go with a 6ft or 5 ft bed? Automatic or Manual? Interested in getting feedback from a experienced owner
Why is this hipster trying to show off how great he is at memorizing written articles?
Would have made more sense to mention the 4Runner as an alternative for the same money rather than the RAV4...4Runner has a smoother powertrain and far nicer interior for about the same money and is frequently cross shopped with the Tacoma.
s50201 yes but unlike the Taco there aren't widespread complaints about the torque curve and shifting performance.
@@hippiebits2071 there were but it's been out long enough that no one cares anymore. i test drove both, but the taco is smoother
I drive 2018 TRD off-road Tacoma and my wife drives a 2018 TRD off-road 4runner and I prefer the Tacoma in every way, except for the rear seat legroom.
Am I the only one who actually likes the Tacoma interior? I mean, don't get me wrong I would never buy the truck considering the competitive set, but, in person, I love the dash and doors
domspar I really like the interior as well
I love it too
domspar, I like it too.
I like the colors
I love the vibe of the Tacoma. A completely objective review would likely have me buying a Colorado or Ranger. But I find myself drawn to the Tacoma.
An honest review for how people really drive/pose in there truck. Great job Andrew! The honesty is refreshing
Koday94 It is a great truck, this guy is just a lost hater of Toyota, they exist and he’s one
This guy doesn’t know he’s reviewing a truck not a sedan.
I have driven a 2012 two-door Civic for 6 years this truck is like jumping in a luxury car after that experience I'm 5-11 I got plenty of leg room good seating positions thing rocks
No matter how much hate and criticism aimed at this truck coming out of these automotive 'journalists', Toyota keeps selling them like hot cakes year after year
Great review of a great truck that taco will be running strong in ten years and also the resale value is higher than the competition 👍
I disagree with you on almost every point.
Least refined truck in the segment but most reliable. Why I'm on my 2nd Tacoma.
I too find my 3rd gen Tacoma very comfortable. I traded in a sports sedan for this and have not looked back since. I receive lots of compliments
I’m 6’3 and have no problem with interior comfort. Love my Taco!
I'm 5'11 have no problem with room. Have sat in back of truck behind the driver seat in the position I'm comfortable in and was fine there as well
I have the exact truck as you and i am 6'2". Yes a tad cramped but i like that wrap around feeling. 2nd one and probably my last vehicle.
Thanks looking forward to a 6.2L GMC, just not sure about the lifestyle tailgate.
Seeing as a LOT of people buy trucks to use as daily drivers, and nothing else (no offroading, hauling, etc.) this is a fair review point, especially given how popular tacomas are. The fact that so many comments got butthurt and defensive just kinda points towards the “cult” mentality.
I test drove one. It wasnt loud at all. Hating on tacoma🤔?
Yeah okay as far the interior goes the only complaints I have it’s the steering wheel and seats adjustments or lack of. Otherwise, the rest serves its purpose of practicality and simplicity after all it is aimed to be a work and play truck. I use my 2016 TRD off road as such.
MANUAL transmission works best on this truck. I have no issues with power whatsoever. I love my TACOMA
I just bought a 2021 and so far very happy
Last month I bought a 2019 Tacoma SR5 4WD and love it. Like Doug said maybe go test drive a Prius...lol
Toyotas are cars that you cannot regret buying. Thats just how they are.
Why do they come with drum breaks and not disc breaks on rear wheels
Toyota is the best. Everyone knows this
Good video review.
TOYOTA IS THE BEST
I have the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4 wheel drive sport with the tech package and letter all that I agree with a lot of what you said and what I find especially annoying is in the charging station that stupid light that all is always on whenever you're driving at night it's annoying he can't even turn the damn thing off the four-wheel drive capability of my opinion is limited but it is barely sufficient fuel economy is horrible and I regret buying my Tacoma I want to get rid of it sell it not give it away and maybe upgrade to something better or just right Toyota off all together
“I am going to go ahead and assume that life style is BDSM” 😂😂😂
That's for sure he knows nothing
When it come to reliability and resell value ..... enough said
Is that how you justify Toyota and their shit products?
Its the number one truck in sales to the ladies. CHICK TRUCKERS love it !
resale is the dumbest thing to consider on a vehicle. If you aren't keeping it for long why not just lease ?
Resale on old Tacoma's is crazy high too, look at 10 and 15 year old ones and see how high they still sell for.
I definitely felt the 5foot bed drove like how you described, but try out the 6footer! Much smoother. Yay physics
Things i never considered when purchasing a truck. Fuel mileage. Driving on streets. Tech. Things i do consider. Off road capabilities. Durability/reliability . payload what can i tow or store in bed.
Toyota is the best ... you must be on fords payroll!
What a wimp. "I wish it had parking censors in the front"? Obviously you shouldn't be driving any truck. I've got a 2018 TRD Sport 6spd manual. 3" lift on 33's and I've suffered none if these issues. Enjoy that check from Chevy.
I appreciate your point of view. But trucks shouldn't be for looks but for utilities.
They offer the Sport in 4x4??
Completely agree with this review 💯. Among the more honest reviews of this truck, finally! So tired of hearing reviews praising this truck for how wonderful it is off-road and disregard mentioning the truth of how awful it is as a daily driver.
@Bhs Ltd Tacoma is american built
Hmmmmm love my 2018 Tacoma and it’s my daily driver🤔
Better than American brand rust trucks.
@@VanderJam The only part made in mexico on my 2016 OF is the bed liner
Great review! I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on the reliability of the Tacoma.
jarfors This wasn’t mixed when it came to reliability. They said it was very reliable and capable.
@@TacoXL he didn't say the review was mixed... I have also heard the newest Tacoma isn't as reliable as the older ones... ive owned many tacomas and now a tundra so im just telling it as it is. I think this truck needs another redesign... a real one this time
@@powersportsenthusiast1986 3rd gen lost the reliable image of the second gen. most people are awaiting the 4th gen, in hopes toyota can regain their tarnished rep. for QUALITY
BILL W when is the 4th gen expected to come out?
@@117rebel in 2020. i am gonna wait for it, instead of buying the dated 2019. or maybe test drive a ranger first, hearing great things!!
You are hilarious lad. Clearly you are a sedan guy. This is a truck, trucks should be trucks, not cars. There are more trucks then just trucks engineered by manufactures other than GM. I don’t own a Tacoma but the sales results speak for themselves. On a side note, I’d like to do a review on that beanie-hat thing you are wearing.
What's the song at the beginning?
Love my 2017 off road
"surrounded by trucks with perennial empty beds...." When you need it and don't have it, you sing a different tune.
Man theres alot of bad reviews for drive ability for these Tacos. Are they really that bad?
I mean im daily driving a lifted jeep wrangler so anything is an upgrade from that lol but looking to get a truck again always liked the Tacos. Are they really that bad guys?
But does the seat matches your skirt tho?
He is a gm motors agent giving his review on Toyota Tacoma what would you expect from him .
I like my Tacoma in New England the tires it came with are junk and got wild peaks made it ride nice and great on Construction sites and off road and snow
It has 30k on it and no issues
Tacoma = happy.
F150 = cool trick man
@@Soh90 I also bought a Sprinter based on a reviews and recommendations and turned out be a disappointment. I almost always get disappointed when I buy something based on hype.
Keep it under 3k on the tach and then its OK.
Cecil L, Good comment.
If you get out of your can and you look back at it every time, you know you bought the right car. Bought mine new in 19 and I still j!zz my pants a little every time I see it.
Dude has a good sense of humor.
The shimmy thing when coming to a stop is kind annoying. I have experienced it in both my second gen and third gen tacos
You do know it takes 1000 miles for the transmission and rpms to synch up with the smart system. That's why the gears arnt broken in yet. I'm 6'4 and iv never felt like a bus driver. Tacoma owner of 4 years. Had a 2016 sr5 and just got a 2019 trd sport 2 weeks ago. Love em!
There's a reason Toyota kept this truck with less technology with a touch of a button.
U aren’t a truck guy and it shows. Maybe u should drive a Prius. Everyone that has one loves it. Incl myself.
I cant trust his opinion over my opinion... you have your own taste and reason and i have mine. I love my 2019 tacoma trd sports 4x4...
Everyone has a different experience with their pickup. Mine is if I want to haul my dump trailer loaded then I use the Cummins. If I want to get up in the mountains I use my Jeep. If I want to drive to the moon I use my Tacoma. And I bet it could come back too!
THis guy must live in a old Corolla
A have a TRD sport 2019 tacoma and is awesome and a I am foodbuisnes owner
I love the steering wheel positioning in correlation with the seat. In most new cars, i can't find a comfortable medium, which really gets on my nerves. In all my cars older than 2010 it's fine, but for some reason after that (and its mainly in Asian cars) there just isn't a good medium for me to be comfortable. But my tacoma, i love it
An honest review... Awesome!
For that money you can buy a full size Tundra 4x4.
Greg Wallace That’s great but the Tacoma is a different truck, not everyone wants a Tundra.
no you cant.
Nerds dont like cool things
While I love the previous gen Tacomas, I have to agree with much this guy says. Really looking forward to the 2020.
what kind of man doesn't like a loud truck, as an owner the only problem I have as a 6 footer is the steering wheel not moving enough.
This guy's large number of dislikes could build a new truck from the ground up..... 👎
I love my 2019 TRD sport Long Bed Tacoma 4x4 got it from south coast Toyota!
Lol in Costa mesa? Me too rofl
Is this a re upload
So many angry truck nerds seem to have missed the part of the review where he said he's looking at it as if you bought it for a lifestyle vehicle (meaning, to flex), not practical reasons.
The second I heard his voice and saw his jeans and shoes, I went bye bye. Little boy.
He's so condescending and sarcastic never seen a professional reviewer do that fckn hilarious
Give the guy a soy latte and a prius
A real world test lol
This guy should just keep it to his Miata and go back to work for Starbucks
