Best song on the record. First time I heard it, I bawled. Then, I dried my tears, grabbed my wallet and scored a copy of the CD. Popped it into player, cranked the volume on this song, and began to bawl some more. "Damnation" is like a soft blanket, warm and fresh out of the dryer. Perfect for rainy days when you're feeling saddened by the world and just need to cry.
Strongly agree! There are many other great Opeth mellow songs but this one is in a different level. It's been more than a decade since the first time I heard this song as well as watched this live performance and the feeling is still there.
I was there front row. That was my voice at 0:30 and it was the greatest concert I ever went to. Had a drink with them backstage before and after the gig. One of the greatest nights of my life.
I can't see the meaning of this life I'm leading I try to forget you as you forgot me This time there is nothing left for you to take This is goodbye Summer is miles and miles away And no one would ask me to stay And I should contemplate this change To ease the pain And I should step out of the rain Turn away Close to ending it all, I am drifting through the stages Of the rapture born within this loss Thoughts of death inside Tear me apart from the core of my soul Summer is miles and miles away And no one would ask me to stay And I should contemplate this change To ease the pain And I should step out of the rain Turn away At times the dark's fading slowly But it never sustains Would someone watch over me In my time of need? Summer is miles and miles away And no one would ask me to stay And I should contemplate this change To ease the pain And I should step out of the rain Turn away (Be Happy Edmund)
This song and Opeth are the perfect response to the millions of comments I consistently see when I watch "classic" song videos on You Tube..you know the deal.. folks say stuff like "Oh music was much better way back when" etc etc.."today's stuff is mush".."zero talent" etc etc" This hauntingly, beautiful song is such a lesson in that if you keep an open mind you will find moments of musical bliss even greater at times then those classics..I'm blessed to have applied the above to my love of Opeth and their beautiful, beautiful music
The vocals on this song....uuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AMAZING...and then the band builds it all up so tight....GD, I LOVE me some Opeth!!!
This DVD reminds me when i was younger, i used to play it while i was Reading Drácula from Bram Stocker and this song link me into that atmosphere so strong. Weird, but i love it.
Funny you mention gothic fiction and Opeth. When this album came out I was reading Anne Rice. I remember because I ended up using the lyrical booklet as a bookmark. Rice isn't quite on Stoker's level but it was a nice match regardless.
@@pineapplepeanuts I read Rice's Lestat while listening to Riverside's Anno Domini High Definition, and believe me it couldn't had a better soundtrack. Now I just can't read and listen to music at the same time

Gene
Man, that fill at 3:55. Martin Lopez was so good.
I listened to this song over ten times today, no joke. This song is so beautifully melancholic.
music is my life m2
some voices will leave, one day. unrealized truth, their truth, my truth, our truth. opinions#.
This music is my lullaby. I am suffering with a break up and all i can listen to is this song.
And I … should step out of the rain, turn away. This line means to me more than you can imagine, thank you for everything you do Opeth
Feels like the solution to the problems I created, yet unsolvable
When sadness and sorrow become music
Well, there's actually a song called Sadness and Sorrow.
@@lucasdurval3484 i see, you're a man of culture as well
Lopez you legend!

Best Opeth line up ever
In my time of neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Those drums fills... amazing !!!
I can't see the meaning of this life I'm leading
I try to forget you as you forgot me
This time there is nothing left for you to take
This is goodbye
Summer is miles and miles away
And no one would ask me to stay
And I should contemplate this change
To ease the pain
And I should step out of the rain
Turn away
Close to ending it all, I am drifting through the
stages
Of the rapture born within this loss
Thoughts of death inside
Tear me apart from the core of my soul
Summer is miles and miles away
And no one would ask me to stay
And I should contemplate this change
To ease the pain
And I should step out of the rain
Turn away
At times the dark's fading slowly
But it never sustains
Would someone watch over me
In my time of need?
Summer is miles and miles away
And no one would ask me to stay
And I should contemplate this change
To ease the pain
And I should step out of the rain
Turn away
(Be Happy Edmund)
In my fuckin time of need - legendary song! Horns high \m/
It’s criminal how unexcited the crows seemed for damnation. That album is the sole reason i ever even tried listening to Opeth and I’m obsessed now
This song is so beautiful and also reminds me a lot of the album "In the awake of Poseidon" by King Crimson
The Melotron is very King Crimsonish. It reminded of Starless.
The drums from Epitaph as well
what a great drummer!

One word: Masterpiece

What a perfect composed piece of music, even live on stage. The Harvest got my attention and this song has got my interest. Thank you
