I really think people who play souls-like games in mouse and keyboard are actually the most CHADs of all (I don't play it tho because I'm terrible with)

The lantern is a huge upgrade compared to the skull lantern dark souls 1. Now I don't have to sacrifice light for a hand or go blind when attacking and rolling.
Or buy the Starlight spell if you're running sorcery. Keeps both hands free & I like it better than the torch. My friends love me because they can keep their weapons ready, while I have a little floating navi light.
I've watched a lot of these videos and I haven't seen anybody mention this, so I figured I would; Torrent's double jump does NOT reduce fall damage. If you jump off a ledge that would kill you and double jump near the ground, you'll still die. Was wondering about this until I found out the hard way.
Yeah i also found out the hard way lol. But i have a tip regarding fall damage: The spirit springs (Those air thing that let you jump high when you jump on them with the horse) are also useful for falling. If you fall on them while being on the horse, you wont receive any fall damage. Pretty useful. Not sure if you know this already, but even if you do, maybe someone else will read this and find it interesting.
@@SorowFame It might increase the damage it if you had already reached a velocity that would injure you, but if you could double jump mid fall before you reached a dangerous velocity it could work. It would depend on how far you’d already fallen and how far you had left to fall.

Here's my tip: The undiscovered version of an area's map still has markers, and one of the markers will tell you where the map for that area is located. It looks like a little obelisk.
Dude! I had no idea about the pots being infinite like a flask. I was doing exactly as said and “saving them for when I really need them”. I’m crafting a metric fuck ton of bombs tonight. Great tip.
Do people not read item descriptions? It seemed super obvious to me as a feature so you can hoard crafting materials but use these pots to limit how many bombs you can make at once so you can't make 1,000 bombs and spam a boss down with them.

this game has become my crack cocaine. i don't know how far i'm progressing in relation to others bc i avoid most elden ring content for the sake of my blind play through but i'm almost at 70 hours and i am still not at the halfway mark. never thought i'd enjoy an open world game since i last played dragons dogma. honestly thought the open world aspect of elden ring would make me dislike it but damn this is slowly becoming my favourite fromsoft game yet
I’m also loving the pvp, people can still backstab you, but there’s no more roll behind-insta snap which makes the combat even in invasions more like a face to face duel. I bring it up because waaay too many people were saying things like “Elden Ring pvp is broken!” They’re just the same type of people who complained about ds2’s pvp, and then who said “poise is broken” in ds3. It’s different, but it’s good when you play it like Elden Ring and not like ds3. My point being, if you were a pvper in ds3 , but the complaints of many prominent pvp youtubers put you off, give it a go- it’s just as addictive as it was in the past (tho I hear pc is laggy for some, I only had one lagger in a whole day on ps5) if you do, try the physick that makes you explode. People think you’re healing and rush in to punish- gets ‘em every time
I'm about 40 hours in and addicted to main progression, and I think I'm only about halfway. It's pretty brutal to play this way, so I'm planning on tapping the breaks and exploring some of the areas I've been through again. I know for a fact there's a ton I've missed so I'm looking forward to it.
Did you know that if you hold down (not just press) the R2 or L2 buttons for right/left attack on horseback, your character will just hold out his sword/weapon for a while and it'll perform multiple hits? I don't use it too often tbh, but it's good for groups.
I have a habit of reading new item descriptions, and me and my friend are doing a co-op run (I'm a quality build and he's a wizard) and about four weeks into our playthrough he asks me where Im getting all these pots. Which I assumed he just wasn't using them because wizard. Also I assumed he was reading item descriptions too because he is a 100% complete games type person, and he has played all of the dark souls games so I thought he knew item descriptions are important. So when I told him the pots are magical and fix themselves so you can reuse them he didn't believe me at first.
For crafting materials, the item description usually has a hint on where the item is commonly found. You can view this hint even for items you haven't collected yet by looking in the crafting menu item details of a recipe that uses it. Along with cracked pots, ritual pots and perfume bottles are also reusable.
I already have a couple of pages of notes on my desk. And to me it is an indicator that I am playing a great game. When I need to write stuff to organize and to remember all I want/have to do I know I am playing something special. I am 35 hours in and the more I play, the more I love it.
Great list! I'd add two more: set up a popular group password even if you don't intend to do any multiplayer, such as Vaati's SEEKERS. Every time a member of the group defeats a shardbearer (legacy dungeon boss) the Erdtree falling leaf buff will be activated in your world and you will get increased rune and item drops. With enough people in the group this means you can have the buff almost constantly at peak times. And if you do intend to engage with multiplayer, have Taunter's Tongue active to lure in invaders wherever you can when playing solo, as long as you're not running to retrieve dropped runes etc. This is because even though you have to use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy (the consumable multiplayer item) to use the Tongue, if you die without summoning any cooperators it will be returned to your inventory, meaning you haven't spent a thing. And for every invader you defeat, you will get another Furlcalling Finger Remedy. It's a way to reliably farm them at no cost, as long as you don't mind invaders (you can always clear mobs first to give a fair playing field).
@@apostateCourier yep, you're absolutely right, and I'm embarrassed at how long it took me to realise that (a couple of days after I posted this comment!). I genuinely thought they were a rare item in the early game unless you farmed multiplayer content.
Also, don't forget that when enemies drop items, they wil show a certain particle effect when they die, so you won't have to wait on their death-animation to find out if you will get loot.
Map your blue flasks to your quick select so you can instantly access them, you can still heal with square, so you can can heal and chug spice easily, no tumbling during battles.
@Top Lobster I have physick, horse, lantern and my favorite spirit summon on mine. I am a strength melee build so im never using blue flasks anyway. have my flasks designated all to red lol.
On PC, I suggest that you change the Quick Selects keys from arrows to 1 2 3 4. If you consider starting from left arrow and go clockwise, set Left as 1, Up as 2, Right as 3, Down as 4. From my experience, those buttons are near the E button (which is the quick select prompt by default) and easy for my fingers to reach.
Toskar, you're going to be a huge youtuber. Its just going to take time to get the follow count going, but these videos, and your narration, are some of my favorite among all souls streamers. Keep going buddy.
My dude. Why mouse and keyboard? Here's why: it's way more precise. I was able to kill bosses much more easily by switching to it. In all souls games. I can constantly switch directions and camera angles without letting go the other buttons and be aware of the enemie's position, especially with big bosses. Also the trigger buttons don't have the pressing motion which takes a second to register the pressing. On pc you can click instantly. Trust me, I died many times due to the button being halfway pressed in the last couple of sessions. You also don't get sore thumbs after long sessions in your left hand cause of holding forward all the time. I still use the gamepad sometimes, today for example I was playing on my couch for hours and I switched to the gamepad. I use both. Keyboard and mouse is a very viable way of playing, even if some of the menus are harder to navigate. But that's a problem with this game only, ds3 was already good, they just need to patch it. Anyway, I know I'm making a big fuss about this but it's not the point, I just want to bring the objective facts. I also know that you were being playful in saying "why??!" but I think it's important to bring the facts, especially for people who don't own a gamepad, and I know multiple people among my friends who don't. 😉
The Gold Pickled Fowl Foot is SUPER useful. Like in other souls game, you can use it after killing a boss since it takes a while for the souls to drop, and it seems to increase souls gained by like 50%. If you use that only a main story boss it could be a whole extra level.
Hey Ratatoskr, I’ve got a video idea for you. So, before I say what the idea is, quick story: so, I was exploring the Mage’s cave in the platue area, where I came across an invisible Black Knife Assassin mini boss that would only become visible when you hit him. I tried a few times to beat him, but the only indicator of where he was were some footsteps in water that I would only see around half of the time, and most of the time he wouldn’t be there when I attacked. But when I decided to use my alone Wolf summons, then knew where he was 100%, and always attacked him, making him easy to find and kill. I think this boss fight teaches you the lesson: Use your Summons. That’s my video idea for you. You don’t have to, but I think it would be a neet video, and would go well with the previous 3 you’ve done. Have a wonderful day, see you in The Lands Between.
what you're supposed to do there is buy a special torch from one of the merchants that allows you to see invisible black assassins (one merchant in Altus Plateau sells the information telling you to do this and another in the capitol sells the torch itself). based on the wording of the information that's not going to be the only invisible assassin people will have to deal with.

My personal tip for both newcomers and veterans, Use Bone Knifes! Try it for hunting easily, for getting aggro , killing dragonfly easily, getting down enemies from walls or the ceiling.
Think of cracked pots as glass bottles from Zelda. After using them up you still keep the container. Adds value to the option to take a cracked pot as a starting item too.
I've played DS, DS2 and 3 also Sekiro on Mouse and Keyboard, 100% in all those games. My journey in Elden Ring will continue without using a controller as well. I am just used to it.
The Rainbow Stones for making progress is such a great tip! last time I spent 1hour on a small dungeon that had a repeated layout with lots of dropdowns and falls so I asked a coop buddy for help and we got invaded twice and won, including the boss. It was awesome, but ever since then I learnt my lesson to not underestimate the level layouts and always use them. I only wish you could buy ruin fragments to craft them more easily, it's such an useless yet rarish material that you can't even buy it-- or atleast I haven't found the bell ro do so

I didn't really know how to use the pouch until I watched Vaatvidya explain and demonstrate in one of his tip videos. Plus you have i-frames similar to a dodge roll while getting on and getting off the horse. Quick select whistle and L3 dismount jumping attack made my gameplay so much more faster and fluid. Pouch whistle, raisins, and lantern are amazing.
CAUTION! Coop summoning in dungeons can cause a bug that will make upgrade resources like smithing stones and glovewort unobtainable. The bug is triggered for the host upon summoning a phantom to aid in the dungeon and will affect any resources not yet collected by the host. Edit* Confirmed on PS4
@@lileofficial4273 I don't think that's completely accurate. Each bell bearing does a different thing I believe. The specific bell bearing you want for the smithing stones is dropped from the boss in Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel
Thanks for another great video. I took your advice, BTW, and am running Wretch as my first toon in my first "Souls" game ever. I think it has really helped, since it stripped down a lot of stuff and allowed me to focus on basics, like camera control, blocking, dodging, healing, and just wrapping my brain around controls on KBM. It was really nice to not worry about screwing up the build, or whether I was going to regret having gone Bow v. Magic, or the other way round. I know at some point I'll want to try to put together a proper build, but I've been enjoying getting my sea legs in the meantime.
OMG! I just thought of a HUGE tip for quick selecting torrent. Put the flasks on the quick select so they are always accessible (hold triangle then left or right), they already make you basically immobile so it doesn’t matter much. And then put Torrent on square or whatever the typical item slot button is for you. This would save me so much time cycling through items like a mad man just because I wanted to use something other than a flask. I would actually pick my right and up completely off the other side to scroll items while moving and half the time I would scroll past the one I wanted. Holy shit, I almost wish they set it up like this automatically!
Dude, do yourself a favor and do that. I already use it like that and it's so much better. Can't honestly understand how that is not mainstream already.
1:22 Why does there have to so much hate for keyboard and mouse controls? They control pretty well now and you can actually set your default prompts in the settings so there is no more experimentation needed.

That shortcut item selection is so helpful, first time souls player, I hate scrolling through items with 1 button... this should make things hella easier
sorry for the second comment, but i haven’t seen anyone talk about this one, so it’s possible they’ve overlooked it like i did this whole first week. So, on the map screen, (im on ps5 so i’ll use those buttons) if you press triangle, it will bring up a list of all the sites of lost grace you have found, organized by area. now, if you highlight a particular site, and the. press R3 on it, the game will “mark” that site. let’s say you’ve marked 20 sites from all over the map, what good is it? well if you press triangle again while in this menu, it will then only show those specific sites of lost grace that you marked. this is great if you find yourself returning to specific areas for any reason, whether it be to gather items, engage in co op, farm rune, or even invade, this little option can save a ton of time even if you don’t go back to places you’ve been, the Round Table Hold has its own section in the list, so you no longer have to zoom the map out or slooooooowlyyyyyyyy move the cursor all the way over to it,
I actually play all the souls games on kbm. For elden ring I rebound movement control to spacebar and jump to a side mouse button. Works perfectly. Using the quick select menu also works without a problem.
To add to the root resin bit, if you rest at the warmaster's shack there's three of them in a small clump if you jump over the fence right next to the site of grace. Only a few steps away, hard to miss. Grab all three and rest again and you'll have a couple dozen ready to last you a while.

As a mouse and keyboard player, I find the best quick select for Torrent is either up or down. You hold 'E' and either scroll up or down to use those respectively. The left and right quick selects are shift-scrolls while holding 'E', which is super unintuitive.
0:53 I also instinctively put Torrent on the right D-pad. But now seeing your screen I am LOVING that you put your Flask of Wondrous Physick on that menu! I only save it as a last resort so it can be frustrating scrolling past an extra item to get to a spirit summon or another consumable during a boss fight.
Thanks for the video! The first part with torrent is helpful for peeps. I didn’t like that I could control my character while having to select torrent from the pouch. But I tried it out with up on the DPad and I was able to press it while my thumb is still on the joystick. Thanks man!!
yeah i use that shortcut thing not just for Torrent, but for my healing and mana pots as well. i need quick access to them. i play on ps5 i put Torrent on the down arrow, health on the left, and "mana" on the right. currently i put my preferred Wraith (whatever they're called) on the top arrow, but seeing as they are only occasionally used, I'm reconsidering that... maybe put the one flask up there, idk. this is the first video I've seen with this recommendation, so it gets a thumbs up from me lol... very useful imo
Rat, in addition to rainbow stones being an awesome way to check if a fall is lethal, COTTON is a great item too, it let's you actually take MOST of those lethal drops while taking no damage, and can be used for stealth as well
@@smallfryskilledge1550 soft cotton, it's a craftable item and you use it the same way as any other consumable, from your inventory or quick slot. Remember though, it won't save you from every fall, if you fall far enough, you will still die.

You can also see if a "jump ahead" message is lying by all the bloodstains nearby that you can use to directly observe people jumping to their death at that place
People don't read. I've seen people asking why they can't upgrade their flask when they have 1 seed, when it says on the popup 'use 2 seeds' to upgrade... XD
I'd also like to add that the enemy placements change for the day/night cycle, I know there's at least one bridge where a really strong knight shows up at night that isn't there during the day though I'm not sure of more examples since I haven't checked most areas. I recall hearing about a rune gain buff at night as well but I haven't been paying attention
Enemy placement dont change that much at night/day (in my experience at least, and ive only explored first few areas). But what you are describing about that knight in the bridge is the night bosses. There are some field bosses that only spawn past nightfall which is really cool. Ive found three so far. Also im pretty sure bats are usually more active during night. During day you can sometimes see them sleeping, hanging from ceilings and stuff. Makes sense.
A 5th tip that people really should follow is to ALWAYS summon spirits when you can. They don't do much damage but they're great at soaking damage and dividing enemy attention.
i forget where i found them... somewhere in Liurnia, but the Marionette summons are friggin op when you level them up. they just act like a mobile turret and it’s amazing. if you have a good shield, you could actually just keep the boss’s agro on you, and just let them do all the dmg. maybe let ‘em get hit once, since they kinda go ballistic when they get hit 😅
I play on the steam controller and so here are some of my macros I have set up: Left Paddle: Torrent (Y+Right Dpad) Right Paddle: Swap left hand (useful when changing between twin swords, to shield to torch) Double Click Right Paddle: two hand weapon. Hold Y: turns on Turbo. It let's me run through and pick up everything with out mashing and it still works with the dpad for quick select. Double Click X: swap item. Hold X: Jump to Tear Flask. These are minor changes to the controls but it let's me manage everything much more easily.
A bit late on this, but as someone who does use Keyboard and mouse I've found that the e+down/up spaces in the pouch also count with my mouse scroll, so I put torrent in e+scroll down and it's been great. Also my mouse is a tad fancy, as it has extra buttons on the left side so I'm a bit freer with keybinds
Helpful tip for Bloodborne chalice dungeons: a replacement for the shiny coins/prism stones to mark the path are the messengers with the lanterns by doorways and halls. If you have passed by them they light up. Easy to miss but helpful once you finally realize their purpose
you can just set torent on top or bottom quick sellect, set the item and spell to scroll up and down. when you need torent just shift + scroll down, its almost the same when using controller
The tip about cracked pots is an absolute lifesaver for my current Arcane playthrough. Going to firebomb, bone dart, and fletched arrow my way to killing God
Ashes of War are another thing that got me, for 30 hours I thought they got used up when you apply them to a weapon and the old skill would be gone forever. I had no idea you could just switch them back and forth lol
Extra map tips! If an area is greyed out on the map there will be a small pillar icon in the blank section where the map for it is located. If you see a dark spot with a red halo around it, that's a mine and you should prioritize clearing them fast because they're your main source of weapon upgrade materials.
Pots part i was like... it says right there in the item man... glad you address it. feel like many of the tips on youtube are just things that you can read ingame.
If you’re playing on mouse and keyboard. Set the binding for item slots to scroll up/down. Then put the mount in your pouch. Just hold E and scroll to summon mount. Super fast
Another way to deal with quickly getting on torrent is a bit screwy as it requires holding the controller differently. On a PS4/5 style controller, you can put your torrent quick select on the up button if you use two fingers on on your shoulder buttons (one finger on each button) that way you can shift your grip so that your middle finger is on the shoulder buttons, leaving your index finger free to operate the dpad. This is commonly called the “crab claw grip” or just the “crab grip.” Or just get a controller with back buttons. Scuf has a ps5 one now, but it sells out all the time. Edit: hey Rat, there is also an item called the Ritual Pot, which is how you make the Lloyd’s talisman item (albinauric pot), as well as beast lure pot (I think these are like blood cocktails in Bloodborne, but I’m not sure) and the Cursed Blood pot. This one has an interesting description, so you’ll have to try it for yourselves.
Here is my advice - mark the shops with the map marker feature because some aren't quite on a bonfire and you might forget where they are! #2 which is a spoiler - go to the beach first because there is a shop recipe you really NEED.

Another tip about tip 4: the site of Grace at the start of the Swamp in Liurnia RIGHT by thr nomadic trader is a good spot to farm firebombs because there are both mushrooms and smoldering butterflies there

Also, once you unlock the map, you can see where the caves are (or at least some of them).

this game has become my crack cocaine. i don't know how far i'm progressing in relation to others bc i avoid most elden ring content for the sake of my blind play through but i'm almost at 70 hours and i am still not at the halfway mark. never thought i'd enjoy an open world game since i last played dragons dogma. honestly thought the open world aspect of elden ring would make me dislike it but damn this is slowly becoming my favourite fromsoft game yet

I’m also loving the pvp, people can still backstab you, but there’s no more roll behind-insta snap which makes the combat even in invasions more like a face to face duel.
I bring it up because waaay too many people were saying things like “Elden Ring pvp is broken!” They’re just the same type of people who complained about ds2’s pvp, and then who said “poise is broken” in ds3. It’s different, but it’s good when you play it like Elden Ring and not like ds3. My point being, if you were a pvper in ds3 , but the complaints of many prominent pvp youtubers put you off, give it a go- it’s just as addictive as it was in the past (tho I hear pc is laggy for some, I only had one lagger in a whole day on ps5) if you do, try the physick that makes you explode. People think you’re healing and rush in to punish- gets ‘em every time
I'm about 40 hours in and addicted to main progression, and I think I'm only about halfway. It's pretty brutal to play this way, so I'm planning on tapping the breaks and exploring some of the areas I've been through again. I know for a fact there's a ton I've missed so I'm looking forward to it.

Did you know that if you hold down (not just press) the R2 or L2 buttons for right/left attack on horseback, your character will just hold out his sword/weapon for a while and it'll perform multiple hits? I don't use it too often tbh, but it's good for groups.

I have a habit of reading new item descriptions, and me and my friend are doing a co-op run (I'm a quality build and he's a wizard) and about four weeks into our playthrough he asks me where Im getting all these pots. Which I assumed he just wasn't using them because wizard. Also I assumed he was reading item descriptions too because he is a 100% complete games type person, and he has played all of the dark souls games so I thought he knew item descriptions are important. So when I told him the pots are magical and fix themselves so you can reuse them he didn't believe me at first.
For crafting materials, the item description usually has a hint on where the item is commonly found. You can view this hint even for items you haven't collected yet by looking in the crafting menu item details of a recipe that uses it.
Along with cracked pots, ritual pots and perfume bottles are also reusable.
Or you can use an interactive map like everyone else.

I already have a couple of pages of notes on my desk. And to me it is an indicator that I am playing a great game. When I need to write stuff to organize and to remember all I want/have to do I know I am playing something special. I am 35 hours in and the more I play, the more I love it.

Great list! I'd add two more: set up a popular group password even if you don't intend to do any multiplayer, such as Vaati's SEEKERS. Every time a member of the group defeats a shardbearer (legacy dungeon boss) the Erdtree falling leaf buff will be activated in your world and you will get increased rune and item drops. With enough people in the group this means you can have the buff almost constantly at peak times.
And if you do intend to engage with multiplayer, have Taunter's Tongue active to lure in invaders wherever you can when playing solo, as long as you're not running to retrieve dropped runes etc. This is because even though you have to use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy (the consumable multiplayer item) to use the Tongue, if you die without summoning any cooperators it will be returned to your inventory, meaning you haven't spent a thing. And for every invader you defeat, you will get another Furlcalling Finger Remedy. It's a way to reliably farm them at no cost, as long as you don't mind invaders (you can always clear mobs first to give a fair playing field).
but the finger remedies only take two erdleaf flowers, they're basically free
@@apostateCourier yep, you're absolutely right, and I'm embarrassed at how long it took me to realise that (a couple of days after I posted this comment!). I genuinely thought they were a rare item in the early game unless you farmed multiplayer content.
Also, don't forget that when enemies drop items, they wil show a certain particle effect when they die, so you won't have to wait on their death-animation to find out if you will get loot.
Map your blue flasks to your quick select so you can instantly access them, you can still heal with square, so you can can heal and chug spice easily, no tumbling during battles.
I also did that and can't recommend enough!
Yes and do the same for the physick flask. My trick is I mixed it with a buff, so when face with a stronger enemy I can easily chug it
@Top Lobster I have physick, horse, lantern and my favorite spirit summon on mine. I am a strength melee build so im never using blue flasks anyway. have my flasks designated all to red lol.
On PC, I suggest that you change the Quick Selects keys from arrows to 1 2 3 4. If you consider starting from left arrow and go clockwise, set Left as 1, Up as 2, Right as 3, Down as 4. From my experience, those buttons are near the E button (which is the quick select prompt by default) and easy for my fingers to reach.

My dude. Why mouse and keyboard? Here's why: it's way more precise. I was able to kill bosses much more easily by switching to it. In all souls games. I can constantly switch directions and camera angles without letting go the other buttons and be aware of the enemie's position, especially with big bosses.
Also the trigger buttons don't have the pressing motion which takes a second to register the pressing. On pc you can click instantly. Trust me, I died many times due to the button being halfway pressed in the last couple of sessions. You also don't get sore thumbs after long sessions in your left hand cause of holding forward all the time. I still use the gamepad sometimes, today for example I was playing on my couch for hours and I switched to the gamepad. I use both. Keyboard and mouse is a very viable way of playing, even if some of the menus are harder to navigate. But that's a problem with this game only, ds3 was already good, they just need to patch it.
Anyway, I know I'm making a big fuss about this but it's not the point, I just want to bring the objective facts. I also know that you were being playful in saying "why??!" but I think it's important to bring the facts, especially for people who don't own a gamepad, and I know multiple people among my friends who don't. 😉

The Gold Pickled Fowl Foot is SUPER useful. Like in other souls game, you can use it after killing a boss since it takes a while for the souls to drop, and it seems to increase souls gained by like 50%. If you use that only a main story boss it could be a whole extra level.

Hey Ratatoskr, I’ve got a video idea for you. So, before I say what the idea is, quick story: so, I was exploring the Mage’s cave in the platue area, where I came across an invisible Black Knife Assassin mini boss that would only become visible when you hit him. I tried a few times to beat him, but the only indicator of where he was were some footsteps in water that I would only see around half of the time, and most of the time he wouldn’t be there when I attacked. But when I decided to use my alone Wolf summons, then knew where he was 100%, and always attacked him, making him easy to find and kill. I think this boss fight teaches you the lesson: Use your Summons. That’s my video idea for you. You don’t have to, but I think it would be a neet video, and would go well with the previous 3 you’ve done. Have a wonderful day, see you in The Lands Between.
what you're supposed to do there is buy a special torch from one of the merchants that allows you to see invisible black assassins (one merchant in Altus Plateau sells the information telling you to do this and another in the capitol sells the torch itself).
based on the wording of the information that's not going to be the only invisible assassin people will have to deal with.

My personal tip for both newcomers and veterans, Use Bone Knifes! Try it for hunting easily, for getting aggro , killing dragonfly easily, getting down enemies from walls or the ceiling.
There are also rainbow stone arrows for drawing smiley faces on walls and making enemies into Christmas trees.
Think of cracked pots as glass bottles from Zelda. After using them up you still keep the container. Adds value to the option to take a cracked pot as a starting item too.
I've played DS, DS2 and 3 also Sekiro on Mouse and Keyboard, 100% in all those games. My journey in Elden Ring will continue without using a controller as well.
I am just used to it.
The Rainbow Stones for making progress is such a great tip! last time I spent 1hour on a small dungeon that had a repeated layout with lots of dropdowns and falls so I asked a coop buddy for help and we got invaded twice and won, including the boss. It was awesome, but ever since then I learnt my lesson to not underestimate the level layouts and always use them. I only wish you could buy ruin fragments to craft them more easily, it's such an useless yet rarish material that you can't even buy it-- or atleast I haven't found the bell ro do so

I didn't really know how to use the pouch until I watched Vaatvidya explain and demonstrate in one of his tip videos. Plus you have i-frames similar to a dodge roll while getting on and getting off the horse. Quick select whistle and L3 dismount jumping attack made my gameplay so much more faster and fluid. Pouch whistle, raisins, and lantern are amazing.

Throwing knives are my favorite. Perfect to aggro one enemy out of a mob, or to safely finish off an enemy.

Coop summoning in dungeons can cause a bug that will make upgrade resources like smithing stones and glovewort unobtainable.
The bug is triggered for the host upon summoning a phantom to aid in the dungeon and will affect any resources not yet collected by the host.

I took your advice, BTW, and am running Wretch as my first toon in my first "Souls" game ever. I think it has really helped, since it stripped down a lot of stuff and allowed me to focus on basics, like camera control, blocking, dodging, healing, and just wrapping my brain around controls on KBM. It was really nice to not worry about screwing up the build, or whether I was going to regret having gone Bow v. Magic, or the other way round. I know at some point I'll want to try to put together a proper build, but I've been enjoying getting my sea legs in the meantime.

The pouch function is especially good for throwing knives. You can quickly throw them without having to select them as an item.
OMG! I just thought of a HUGE tip for quick selecting torrent. Put the flasks on the quick select so they are always accessible (hold triangle then left or right), they already make you basically immobile so it doesn’t matter much. And then put Torrent on square or whatever the typical item slot button is for you.
This would save me so much time cycling through items like a mad man just because I wanted to use something other than a flask. I would actually pick my right and up completely off the other side to scroll items while moving and half the time I would scroll past the one I wanted. Holy shit, I almost wish they set it up like this automatically!
You know if you hold down it will bring back to the first slot of your item list?

That shortcut item selection is so helpful, first time souls player, I hate scrolling through items with 1 button... this should make things hella easier
sorry for the second comment, but i haven’t seen anyone talk about this one, so it’s possible they’ve overlooked it like i did this whole first week. So, on the map screen, (im on ps5 so i’ll use those buttons) if you press triangle, it will bring up a list of all the sites of lost grace you have found, organized by area. now, if you highlight a particular site, and the. press R3 on it, the game will “mark” that site. let’s say you’ve marked 20 sites from all over the map, what good is it? well if you press triangle again while in this menu, it will then only show those specific sites of lost grace that you marked. this is great if you find yourself returning to specific areas for any reason, whether it be to gather items, engage in co op, farm rune, or even invade, this little option can save a ton of time
even if you don’t go back to places you’ve been, the Round Table Hold has its own section in the list, so you no longer have to zoom the map out or slooooooowlyyyyyyyy move the cursor all the way over to it,

For the first tip: on Xbox set Torrent to the left button. You can press that while holding on to the left stick.
I actually play all the souls games on kbm. For elden ring I rebound movement control to spacebar and jump to a side mouse button. Works perfectly. Using the quick select menu also works without a problem.
To add to the root resin bit, if you rest at the warmaster's shack there's three of them in a small clump if you jump over the fence right next to the site of grace. Only a few steps away, hard to miss. Grab all three and rest again and you'll have a couple dozen ready to last you a while.
I would LOVE if I could write descriptions on my map markers.

As a mouse and keyboard player, I find the best quick select for Torrent is either up or down. You hold 'E' and either scroll up or down to use those respectively. The left and right quick selects are shift-scrolls while holding 'E', which is super unintuitive.
0:53 I also instinctively put Torrent on the right D-pad. But now seeing your screen I am LOVING that you put your Flask of Wondrous Physick on that menu! I only save it as a last resort so it can be frustrating scrolling past an extra item to get to a spirit summon or another consumable during a boss fight.

yeah i use that shortcut thing not just for Torrent, but for my healing and mana pots as well. i need quick access to them.

i put Torrent on the down arrow, health on the left, and "mana" on the right.
currently i put my preferred Wraith (whatever they're called) on the top arrow, but seeing as they are only occasionally used, I'm reconsidering that... maybe put the one flask up there, idk.

Rat, in addition to rainbow stones being an awesome way to check if a fall is lethal, COTTON is a great item too, it let's you actually take MOST of those lethal drops while taking no damage, and can be used for stealth as well

@@smallfryskilledge1550 soft cotton, it's a craftable item and you use it the same way as any other consumable, from your inventory or quick slot. Remember though, it won't save you from every fall, if you fall far enough, you will still die.

You should put your flasks in the pocket slots so you can use them without cycling through your items.
You can also see if a "jump ahead" message is lying by all the bloodstains nearby that you can use to directly observe people jumping to their death at that place

Mouse and keyboard pouch shortcuts are pretty fast to access. If you put torrent on the up pouch direction you just need to input E and up scroll.
I'd also like to add that the enemy placements change for the day/night cycle, I know there's at least one bridge where a really strong knight shows up at night that isn't there during the day though I'm not sure of more examples since I haven't checked most areas. I recall hearing about a rune gain buff at night as well but I haven't been paying attention
Enemy placement dont change that much at night/day (in my experience at least, and ive only explored first few areas).
But what you are describing about that knight in the bridge is the night bosses. There are some field bosses that only spawn past nightfall which is really cool. Ive found three so far.
Also im pretty sure bats are usually more active during night. During day you can sometimes see them sleeping, hanging from ceilings and stuff. Makes sense.
A 5th tip that people really should follow is to ALWAYS summon spirits when you can.
They don't do much damage but they're great at soaking damage and dividing enemy attention.
i forget where i found them... somewhere in Liurnia, but the Marionette summons are friggin op when you level them up. they just act like a mobile turret and it’s amazing. if you have a good shield, you could actually just keep the boss’s agro on you, and just let them do all the dmg.
maybe let ‘em get hit once, since they kinda go ballistic when they get hit 😅
I play on mouse and keyboard just fine. :) For any others, just hold E and press 1 2 3 or 4 depending on where you set it up.
I play on the steam controller and so here are some of my macros I have set up:
Left Paddle: Torrent (Y+Right Dpad)
Right Paddle: Swap left hand (useful when changing between twin swords, to shield to torch)
Double Click Right Paddle: two hand weapon.
Hold Y: turns on Turbo. It let's me run through and pick up everything with out mashing and it still works with the dpad for quick select.
Double Click X: swap item.
Hold X: Jump to Tear Flask.
These are minor changes to the controls but it let's me manage everything much more easily.
Writing descriptions for the map markers would be amazing. Shame it was not implemented.
Damn I always wondered why the hell cracked pots were considered a purple item, didn't know they weren't consumed on use.
A bit late on this, but as someone who does use Keyboard and mouse I've found that the e+down/up spaces in the pouch also count with my mouse scroll, so I put torrent in e+scroll down and it's been great. Also my mouse is a tad fancy, as it has extra buttons on the left side so I'm a bit freer with keybinds

Helpful tip for Bloodborne chalice dungeons: a replacement for the shiny coins/prism stones to mark the path are the messengers with the lanterns by doorways and halls. If you have passed by them they light up. Easy to miss but helpful once you finally realize their purpose

The tip about cracked pots is an absolute lifesaver for my current Arcane playthrough. Going to firebomb, bone dart, and fletched arrow my way to killing God
i just found out about the cracked pot thing today and my entire life has changed.
Ashes of War are another thing that got me, for 30 hours I thought they got used up when you apply them to a weapon and the old skill would be gone forever. I had no idea you could just switch them back and forth lol

Extra map tips! If an area is greyed out on the map there will be a small pillar icon in the blank section where the map for it is located. If you see a dark spot with a red halo around it, that's a mine and you should prioritize clearing them fast because they're your main source of weapon upgrade materials.
Pots part i was like... it says right there in the item man... glad you address it. feel like many of the tips on youtube are just things that you can read ingame.

Here's one that is incredibly useful. Holding up will go to your first spell and holding down will go to your first equipped item.
Cracked Pots just blew my mind.
Another way to deal with quickly getting on torrent is a bit screwy as it requires holding the controller differently. On a PS4/5 style controller, you can put your torrent quick select on the up button if you use two fingers on on your shoulder buttons (one finger on each button) that way you can shift your grip so that your middle finger is on the shoulder buttons, leaving your index finger free to operate the dpad. This is commonly called the “crab claw grip” or just the “crab grip.” Or just get a controller with back buttons. Scuf has a ps5 one now, but it sells out all the time.
Edit: hey Rat, there is also an item called the Ritual Pot, which is how you make the Lloyd’s talisman item (albinauric pot), as well as beast lure pot (I think these are like blood cocktails in Bloodborne, but I’m not sure) and the Cursed Blood pot. This one has an interesting description, so you’ll have to try it for yourselves.
Here is my advice - mark the shops with the map marker feature because some aren't quite on a bonfire and you might forget where they are!

Great tips! I wish I had figured out the cracked pots thing much earlier in my play through. I was saving them as well until for the first 30 hours of playing. Lol.
Another tip about tip 4: the site of Grace at the start of the Swamp in Liurnia RIGHT by thr nomadic trader is a good spot to farm firebombs because there are both mushrooms and smoldering butterflies there
