Yeah, Pirate Software talked about the deadmines stuff as that is an area the devs used for testing because it was in an instance so it would let them see things in the live game without affecting the world. Another area you might consider is the area behind Tyr's Hand that would eventually be used as the Death Knight starting area, New Hearthglen. If they ever wanted a full on Scarlet raid that area would be perfect.
Scarlet raid let's go! The Scarlet Crusade always had some cool lore and backstory for a WoW-only faction, would love to see it in full glory as a raid
@@madseasonshow Old IF has a few ways in, gnomes can get in via the IF bank with slow fall (I actually have an old video on my channel for this), otherwise I remember you could duel in certain spots in IF, and if you got polymorphed near a furnace outside of the old IF door near the tunnel heading to common district, it would give you a loading screen and tp you in.
Coming from the Warcraft 3 perspective, Dalaran would be a great hub full of opportunities. In W3 you spent so much time there: Sieging it with the Undead, summoning Archimondr, stopping Illidans spell with the Eye of Sargaras, 2 Missions in the blood elf campaign in the ruins and one more in the Dungeons. There is so much you can build upon. An instance in the dungeons with a lot of weird experiments from the Kirin Tor, twisted by the Demon spells casted by Kel Thuzad and Illidan, ... Also, you could use the area to flesh out the Syndicate faction a bit more.
the syndicate kinda got the scarlet crusade treatment, they started off as a sympathetic villain faction with a tragic origin story and a good chance for redemption, and then in later expansions they didn't get any development and just ended up devolving into a depthless punching bag that gets recycled whenever blizzard needs to have "evil" humans. Reminder that the syndicate are the remains of Alterac, a now completely extinct kingdom. If nothing else, add some content that allows you to try to help them reclaim their home lost to the Ogres and old horde. Same goes for Scarlet Crusade, after the demon possessing the corpse of Dathrohan is slain in vanilla, by phase 6 they start opening up to a bit of co-operation during the naxxramas event, indicating some level of softening since they're no longer under the influence of a literal demon. Lots of factions should have rep and rewards and they should definitely get more love than they have.
Another one you might consider mentioning is Jaedenar in Felwood it's an entirely unique cave that was planned to be a dungeon early on, eventually it was simply turned into a cave with a few quests inside but if they're going in a Classic+ direction it would be cool to see it become a dungeon properly and just have those quests become dungeon quests. Also it doesn't really matter but Magni before his Azerite addiction was working with us on Argus during the last patch of Legion iirc.
In classic we had a guild event over the whole world with the finale at the end of the cave. We mages had a duel who will get Atiesh. Was really cool. Shoutout to the old VKB guard.
I still remember exploring off zones as a kid. Only ever did blink thru deadmines portal and ran around old outland. Then im TBC jumping on the books in karazhan and falling into the troll village. Ah, and the big smiley face under karazhan. Good times.
You still have remnant of the Timbermaw quest, the main one being of Donova Snowden where you can investigate the hot springs strange powers. The last quest ends on Donova promising to return to us with more infos on a book you find on the Winterfall Chief, but she never does. People have theorized that they might be demon under Hyjal corrupting the water and roots underground and that's why the furbolg are going apeshit in the region. The passage of Timbermaw could have served as the entrance of a dungeon which could give you access to Hyjal (these tunnels were apparently the ones used by Tyrande and Malfurion in W3, it could also be where Illidan's prison were originally), so there might be another entrance of the Hold.
Big thing I remember was GM island. Where the more outrageous players might find themselves in an empty room, under a bright light and answering some questions. I had forgotten about the dueling-behind-pillar trick in IF. I remember watching people doing that back then. Things were so wholesome and simple but the game is just bananas now. What a time we had as kids.
Hey madseason. Been a viewer for years on multiple accounts, and I just wanna say that my nights are blessed when I hear that intro. Love seeing you in my feed bro. I hope life's going well for you.
The world warper trinket from the gnomeregan raid in sod teleports you to all kinds of crazy places like old ironforge, mount hyjal, and a bunch of others that look like content that was never finished. There's a pirate island off the coast of Tanaris way off the map that the trinket can teleport you to and it was honestly one of the coolest places I explored in the game.
I'd definitely love to see Gillijim's Isle and Island of Doctor Lapidis return. Both were west off the coast of STV, somewhat finished islands that were removed sometime during the vanilla alpha. I remember Gillijim's Isle actually existing as a zone, what I mean that you can go to the spot where it used to be and you can see the zone name pop up in the screen and join the general chat of the zone, at least this was the case when I went to the location back in WotLK. Could have some guest hubs there, a dungeon and a raid maybe.
I'm surprised neither were maps for islands in BFA, would have been a good chance to bring one of them back since they did something similar for another lore location
According to Hirumaredx, the Hellfire Peninsula in Vanilla was most likely a dev playing with the assets, as the South Seas was their first idea for an expansion, but they had to go to Outland due to limitations. Now, there's a big door on Blackrock Depths that is guarded by a boss called Bael'Gar, and the big door apparently leads to a dwarven highway, according to the Dungeon Journal. That could make for an addition to Classic+
These videos give me such a nostalgic longing for my youth. Exploring Easter eggs and unaccessible areas was my favorite pastime in vanilla. I hadn't even hit level cap, barely had my non-epic mound by the end of the expansion... All of the time that I "should" have been leveling I was wall jumping and exploring with my friends. We got into the caverns of time, And I have a distinct memory of that sleepover and being up until 3:00 a.m. basking in it's glory. Good times, man
For some reason I never could get into Old Iron Forge with the duel method, but I did manage to eventually get there with a far more complicated route, involving going through the Iron Forge Airport, dropping down into some dwarven mine entrance, drinking noggenfogger slow fall and jumping at the right angle into a void, which would eventually float you under iron forge mountain, under ironforge, right into Old Iron Forge
I remember doing this too at some point in vanilla. No idea who came up with the idea. But it was a fun adventure. I do remember that I managed to blink trough the door in Ironforge as a mage tho.. So I did have easier access if I wanted to, and we did the duel + sheep method to help other friends inside. Think we used the corner just outside the throne room to start the duels tho. If you jumped high enough up on the wall you could duel up there.
Great follow-up 👏🏼 To me the ultimate classic+ experience would be a combination of vanilla, TBC and WotLK. Their stories and progression intertwined so it becomes one cohesive whole. Then as a bonus comes the unfinished content mentioned. I love to dream about it, because I would play the hell out of that.
It’s safe to say that modern blizzard developers lack the talent to ever pull off something close to the vision the original devs had. A really nice video and it’s so cool to see what the devs had in store, but the people currently at the wheel lack even 1/10th of the vision and motivation to ever bring these ideas to light. Still, enjoyed the video and thanks for chronicling it as you have :)
These vids are incredible. What a throwback. I spent most of my younger years doing glitches and exploring different areas "outside the map" Theres so much more, you could be making these videos for a while. The markings on the ground out of bounds of Deepholme, the mushroom fairy ring in the mountains of Tristfal glades.. so many things in this game hidden from view.
One place of lost content I've always found interesting is the completely unknown area of land just below the "O" in Eastern Kingdoms. Every other inaccessible zone in WoW has lore or had implied lore behind it (that one bit of land between Elywnn and Dun Morogh was supposed to be where Deathwing broke out of the world in Cata but was scrapped), but the mysterious O zone has no history behind it what so ever, and would eventually just be phased out in Cata and replaced with ocean.
The ocean probably makes more sense given that underwater area of the Deeprun Tram, but if they DID decide to do anything with it that'd certainly be interesting.
Amazing video! I went to Old Ironforge by going to one of the house's 2nd floor , some characters can go up a closet u take a growth potion , when u see u trespass the ceiling u log out , then log in and taaa daaa u r there, did it on classic
Azshara was my home on my first character way back in Vanilla. I actaully spent time there grinding levels, exploring, and fishing. It was kind of fun being in a zone without anything distracting you.
One of my most bizarre finds exploring in 2006, using a very low level undead priest to out heal both fatigue and drowning, was I believe off the shore of Stranglethorn Vale. Deep underwater there were a few Gnomish houses. They were at a point so deep underwater that you'd actually lose all your HP at once... probably the same Y coordinate as bottomless pits.
Oh and sadly I lost all video proof of this. I had uploaded it to Google Videos back in the day as a Noggaholics knockoff video but GV is gone and not archived.
Would absolutely love a series of this with the different expansions, I don't really know any unreleased secrets for the other expansions (besides wod)
There also was an "old ZG" zone with a different layout you could enter through some wall jumping to get behind the actual ZG entrance. And a huge zone behind Dire Maul featuring the stair made out of chairs.
Man, the nostalgia seeing this stuff. Even with Classic available and SoD out, I just haven't been able to find time to play, I guess that's getting old. I really miss this game a lot.
Don't forget about southern silithus! Below aq40 is a huge area with a lot of it already laid out. Also, you can get to old iron forge in sod with the teleport trinket from gnomer. It sent me there last time I used it and thought that was super cool
So much love for these videos man. Your content has a special place in my heart and memories…man do I miss the days of 2007-10, WoW has changed a lot but it’s still the best game I’ve ever played.
theres a chest in Tirisfal Glade that cannot be open or something i remember back in days in spiders near scarlet monastery, also the islands north in theramore, and the islands south of hilsbrand
I just remembered I used to have a "power rangers: the movie" game for the sega gamegear when I was a little kid. The music towards the end of the video brought back a core memory I had completely forgotten about.
Bring back memories. I used to waste time wondering around locked areas during vanilla. Once i event found something in the North of Eastern Kingdoms. It was weirdly unfinished untextured place. I assume it was future ghost land or Silvermoon. I was running on a mount from the coast and found some space to get pass.
💙 Love the reminiss and look for hidden entrances/secrets ! I guess this isn't a big secret or maybe it was/is? I got a tip from a friend right before TBC i think it was. We found a closed entrance with an instance portal, right under Karazhan called (The Forgotten Crypt). I think it was suppose to be a raid, but instead lost in time and not finalized. A big moment was where we made it inside from dying, then ressing inside. We then got to explore a big underwater area with alot of corpses and chains hanging down. It was really creepy and fun. I also remember doing a shortcut from winterspring towards Darkshore, jumping down with light feather to a (Troll city). That was before they opened that area in a later expansion... Really cool to look back at that time, so thank you for making this trip down memory lane. 😉
I remember my older brother jumping high enouugh on a slope close by the "entrance" to old ironforge to be able to start duels because the city area would stop at some point. That was our waypoint.
Having started WoW during the Vanilla Beta EU, I’ve seen all the famous exploration videos at the time (Paul Oakenfold music anayone?) But even though, you made me discover a few that I didn’t know and I’m very curious about there other expansions! Great work
My friend and I glitched ourselves into Old Ironforge once on the PTR only to find our accounts banned from the PTR. There was a different spot we used for dueling and even clipping in, but the process was effectively the same. It blew my mind and then scared the hell out of me for possibly getting banned.
there is a similar duel-type push into walls in stormwind behind the AH, you can get under SW and mount all the way to Ironforge even some cool mountains are there.
love these vids! Wish i knew of more stuff you could cover. One thing i still think about was the players back in those times... I was on Magtheridon, and there were a few badass players and the guild RUN. Guys like Joho (tauren war) and Superfluous (female orc sham) and a few others... lost to the ages i suppose...
I remember getting to old outland through deadmines once or twice. My favorite thing I found throughout wow though is the HUGE piece of land in WOD south of the whole continent. I liked to just spend time there and chill.
I absolutely love these videos, thank you for making and sharing these! I had no idea about Old Ironforge or how certain places were at one point intended to be raids. Thank you!
The ironforge airport, the lost Dwarven outpost and the Troll tribe, they could add a way to transervse vertically without adding flying. Also there's that Island to the southwest of Tanaris thats nearly impossible to get to. Wasn't there something about Uthers tomb that got people speculating about unfinished quests?
Let's hope they do some redesign and add some of it into SOD I don't think Outland should have been in Classic because it isn't on the world of Azeroth it should be anything that is on the planet we started on that way we avoid any weird Outland's and Shadowlands which most didn't want or ask for.
Hyjal also had a huge underground complex that you see in Warcraft 3 and rescue Illidan from. Not just the barrow dens in Cata. That'd be an insane raid/dungeon opportunity.
One thing you forgot to mention about Quel'Thalas is that there's actually a little built part of the zone on the left side that you can explore by just swimming or water walking there. It looks kinda like a night elf village.
I love exploring old Azeroth and all of these missing zones and hidden places filled me with so much wonder in my youth. It's truly what made WoW feel like such a big world that had so much mystery. Now you could do a series exploring such things in later expansions and maybe that would work up until WotLK but after that things get so formulaic there are hardly any unfinished places or cut ideas, you know? It's all very polished and nice and there's no little nooks and crannies like there are in the old world. Cata comes along and tries to spruce up some and gloss over others and at first that was very exciting to me when it launched but it didn't live up to the expectations I had built in my head by that point... and they left so much unsaid. And not in a mysterious "room for more in the future" sort of way... but in a "we're starting to get new employees on board that don't give af and new players that don't even know or care so why bother?" sort of way. Like I really want to have high hopes for SoD that things will be different and we'll see a different version of these missing places fleshed out in a different way that feels more "classic" but I'm just not sure that's the direction they plan to go with their resources at this point. We're probably going to end up with world quests or some dumb shit like that after 60.
I remember the times of glitching from the inside of one instance to another. I think you could see Karazhan coming from ZG or the other way round (I was long ago). I still haven'd given up on reaching Naxx 40 somehow in retail.
Some aspects of the OG Dragon Isles where brought into Kul Tiras for BFA. That's what clued a few people to predict Dragon Isles for the x-pac after Shadowlands (Taliesin and Evitel, et alia)
Sadly, nothing will bring back that initial spark; bunch of weirdos figuring out a fight, tankspot, paladins with cloth, experiences genuinely being new. I love WoW, played it my whole life, but i know my favorite game has ran its course. Here’s to all the other nerds who felt some sort of home within Azeroth 💪🏻💙
If we ever get new Classic zones I really really hope they create them like they did the old zones (like until MoP at maximum), with far zones, where you feel like in a really far area, wherever you are in a zone, in a huge landscape, where it feels huge kind of and not like in a theme park (like it is in the addons from WoD onwards), where you hop a few meters and everything is totally different at once, where it doesn't feel like a coherent zone, but a collection of very small very distinctive places. That was one of the things I really couldn't take after MoP and what disturbed my immersion greatly.
This was so fun to watch, love all these places and I was always a huge explorer back in the day! Would love to see Programmer Isle too even though it was only meant as a testing area for devs haha! But I guess it was the same with Designer Island aka the unfinished Dragon Isles place too.
I miss the wc3 looking old hellfire, the mushrooms were in warcraft 3 and it was a cool detail. i heard that apparently it was just someone "messing with assets" for old hellfire, but it seems to deliberate to not be a beta concept for the design. I do really love the one we have now though, the atmosphere is so good and its one of my favourite zones.
I know a lot of people may not currently still play OSRS or have played it in recent years but the way they handle OSRS and still update it based on polls and active player feedback is very nice/cool. If they were to take the same concept and just do the same with vanilla, I think it would be a powerhouse. OSRS is a lot more popular than the "retail" version of itself.
Some nifty unfinished areas from Vanilla that I always found fascinating, even if they never really had much going for them in the ways of content they could hold, but still among my favorites would be these little troll huts (golly, I can't remember where they were), but they were in this little canyon area that you could only see on certain flight paths, but the area was otherwise completely unaccessable. I think there were even visible NPCs down there. My other favorite was this farm area. This one was located west of Quel'Thalas and north of the Plaugelands, and you could get up there with some wall jumping. It was a pretty sparse area, but still a whole little zone. There were NPCs that followed a regular routine, and even some signs with funny text on them (if memory serves, they pointed to here, there, and nowhere, but I may be wrong, its been more then a decade since I did any looking at these). Curiously, this zone is still inaccessible even now, having never been repurposed, and an invisible wall still blocks the whole area off, leaving it a tantalizing mystery even now.
I may have conflated the latter zone and the farm as being the same thing, like I said, its been awhile. I did go out and look around with shaman's Far Sight (on of the most broken abilities in the game as far as poking around where you don't belong goes) to get past the invisible barriers, and didn't spot much.
It is disappointing to see all these wonderful zones that never got to see the light of day, same with the dungeons and raids. Honestly, I think the private server community is doing tradional fans a favor. I haven't tried other classic plus private servers, but I have played Turtle WoW. That private server feels like everything you have talked about when it comes to the good old days of WoW. I'm to young to have experienced WoW in its glory days, but I can appreciate what some people have done to try and make it into something the fans have always wanted. Thank you Madseason for all the entertaining and informative videos you've put out there for us to see!
I was thinking of the tower north of the eastern plaguelands.. guess you could call it the first Quel Thalas? In SOD you can get ported there with the gnome-trinket but you'll get a debuff after a few seconds which freezes you and ports you back to your hearth location. Also I do think the big guarded gates in BRD have some nice potential too! Or what about Grim Batol? Areawise there is more than enough locations to use. I really hope they will use some of them
I think its also worth mentioning dropped plot points. The Venture Company was a very big deal only for it to never go anywhere because we never went to Kezan in a meaningful capacity

I always thought it felt like a dungeon
''The king of BJ's Yogg Saron''
Not even a minute in and we already starting of strong lmao.
Gimme some of dat sloppy yoggy
made me do the auditory equivalent of a double look, lmao.
I still remember exploring off zones as a kid. Only ever did blink thru deadmines portal and ran around old outland.
Then im TBC jumping on the books in karazhan and falling into the troll village. Ah, and the big smiley face under karazhan. Good times.
And under ironforge as well..
God those were the days 😂
Seen them completed really well by a private server, good story behind it too. Populated by Ogres, trolls and Kul tiras. Oh and some goblins
Turtle WoW, a private vanilla server, finished and released these islands! You can actually explore and quest there, pretty cool
Great follow-up 👏🏼
To me the ultimate classic+ experience would be a combination of vanilla, TBC and WotLK. Their stories and progression intertwined so it becomes one cohesive whole.
Then as a bonus comes the unfinished content mentioned.
I love to dream about it, because I would play the hell out of that.
i woulkd Kick TBC out but take BFA landmass, because its well known and named stuff.
Still, enjoyed the video and thanks for chronicling it as you have :)
lmao that knocking when talking about old ironforge made me almost going to my door
These vids are incredible. What a throwback. I spent most of my younger years doing glitches and exploring different areas "outside the map"
Theres so much more, you could be making these videos for a while.
I love that you're back with wow content man. These videos feel so good
Amazing video! I went to Old Ironforge by going to one of the house's 2nd floor , some characters can go up a closet u take a growth potion , when u see u trespass the ceiling u log out , then log in and taaa daaa u r there, did it on classic
Saw the thumbnail and was instantly reminded of Hayven Games
Dude, you blew my mind with the power ranger comment
Mr. Madseason sir, just wanted to say I’m so glad you are posting more regularly. Thanks missed you videos
Exploring out of bounds stuff in vanilla was so much fun.
Exploration was my favorite part of vanilla actually, especially breaking into those special areas like above Orgrimmar and the gnome runway
There also was an "old ZG" zone with a different layout you could enter through some wall jumping to get behind the actual ZG entrance. And a huge zone behind Dire Maul featuring the stair made out of chairs.
Season of MadSeason, videos galore, good times. Just uploads themselves give nice nostalgia.
You can find screenshots of Wrath Dalaran being placed back where it was supposed to be located! It looks awesome
Man, the nostalgia seeing this stuff. Even with Classic available and SoD out, I just haven't been able to find time to play, I guess that's getting old. I really miss this game a lot.
I never completely experienced vanilla wow and I’m again enjoying it now. Just leveling at my own pace now like I couldn’t back then.
I was running on a mount from the coast and found some space to get pass.
thanks for putting this out so quickly!
I just started playing WoW because of these videos you make. They’re so interesting and in the case of your Pandora’s box video, very insightful
Having started WoW during the Vanilla Beta EU, I’ve seen all the famous exploration videos at the time (Paul Oakenfold music anayone?)
But even though, you made me discover a few that I didn’t know and I’m very curious about there other expansions!
Great work
My friend and I glitched ourselves into Old Ironforge once on the PTR only to find our accounts banned from the PTR.
Dude the music at the start brought back some memories. I'm not even positive as its been probably 20 years but it made me think of age of empires.
The Cave south of AQ20/40 with the level 5 dragon inside is a cool easteregg and a Lost questchain
The cave with a dragon wasn't a quest chain it was a tribute to a Developers child who passed from cancer.
I thought I knew everything there was to know about this game but this was the first I've heard of the originator Dragon Isles. that's so cool!
I have watched so many "cut content" videos and I can believe I've never heard of Old Ironforge
love these vids! Wish i knew of more stuff you could cover. One thing i still think about was the players back in those times... I was on Magtheridon, and there were a few badass players and the guild RUN. Guys like Joho (tauren war) and Superfluous (female orc sham) and a few others... lost to the ages i suppose...
Absolute favorite type of video here from the GOAT of wow content in my book.
ding ding ding ding ding, that intro makes my heart warm
Its a rainy day… the power went out… and as if the gods ordained it, Lord MadSeason drops a video to brighten up the day 🔥❤️
So cool to see you uploading WoW content again. Love listening to your videos at night.
One thing you forgot to mention about Quel'Thalas is that there's actually a little built part of the zone on the left side that you can explore by just swimming or water walking there. It looks kinda like a night elf village.
Did not expect the King of BJs man caught me off guard! had to replay it 3 times to make sure im not trippin XD
Wild to think that I made that Magni meme nearly 5 years ago now and it's still getting referenced lmao
I remember in Vanilla before AQ opened, swimming around the southern part of that zone, seeing the AQ assets, hazy and unfinished.
7:40
The dedication of players astounish me every time lol
Great stuff and work!
If im remembering right there are more areas in undercity that was cut with same reasons as iron forge.
You opened up with my Favorite Game OST off rip
As an Avid Power rangers and sentai fan your little side tangent was great.
Your videos are my favorite to listen to while at work I really am enjoying this series
I like that they took that ancient idea of "giant squid temple" and worked that into BFA.
I really hope they will use some of them
Thanks for the video cant wait until next phase currently chilling playing d4 and heroes of the storm while we wait.
That knock on the door really got me i went outside to check no one there kek
I'm glad you are back making videos again. Videos are always interesting.
Was listening to this while playing, Magni knocking on the door made me jump out of my seat lol
These are the best Madseason videos possible.
Classic intro *check
Classic content *check
Music *check
I hope you bring up all the zones on the vanilla Eastern Kingdoms map that were just removed later. Like East of Burning Steppes. Or SW of Dun Morogh
I find it so interesting how much there was, is, and could have been in this epic game saga.
3:17 FINALLY! someone talks about that damn wall!
I never thought of the furbolg tunnels to Hyjal. That's pretty sensible though.
Loving the frequent uploads and the FF music that's mixed into your vids, keep it up Mads
I think its also worth mentioning dropped plot points. The Venture Company was a very big deal only for it to never go anywhere because we never went to Kezan in a meaningful capacity
There's something eerie and somewhat mystifying about seeing old unreleased models in classic. Kind of like seeing old abandoned malls.
I remember rumours about the furbolg tunnel in Azshara being an entrance to the furbolg capital, if they were to be a playable race
