love your content, your videos got me to start playing classic and my dwarf finally got herod's helm and i didn't know he dropped the same helm you're wearing (appearance wise haha) ty for making these videos
they already have pitch black dudgeon with light mechanic, example is last boss (warden) from legion and the cavers where you must hold the orb to kill mobs
7:30 - this is not a missing king Magni statue. This is a missing statue of king Modimus Anvilmar, last High King of all dwarves. Starting dwarf town is named after him.
@@madseasonshow I'd also say the statue is *maybe* a reference (or inspired by) the entrance to the dwarf city in Everquest, Kaladim. I think this is possible since so many of the WoW devs were EQ players and they both share design elements.
@@madseasonshowSomeone corrected you on this count about five years ago in your patch by patch coverage of Old Ironforge. I just remember that for some reason.
6:05 I do remember that "Language skill" was also a thing that you had to level up, but this mechanics was removed quite fast. Today from start your character have 300 in "Language" skill by default, in both languages that he can speak (depends on race and fraction) But back then you started with only your native language, and second one was 1/300. How it worked: Let's say you start as Night Elf, two languages are available for you "darnassian" and "common". The "darnassian" is already 300 as it is your native, while the "common" is 1/300 So when you type in chat you can choose what lang to use with command /darnassian or /common. When you speak on darnassian only other Night Elves will understand you, while Humans Dwarves and Gnomes will not. What do they see when you speak on native darnassian? Same gibberish that players see when enemy fraction speaks, random letters. That means that on start you was locked to party only with your race. To "learn" second language you had actually type on it in chat more and more, the more words you typed the higher skill goes, until you reach 300. And while you leveling the skill the sentences you type sometimes had randoms mistakes. It was interesting idea and funny feature for a roleplay but was cut pretty fast, as new players simply made macros and spam it to learn common lang in couple mins. And although now you start with "common" lang for chat by default (or "orcish" for the horde), you can still change the lang you type with same commands (like /darnassian) and other races who don't know it wouldn't understand you.
Am I crazy for thinking the original idea sounds cool AF? LOL Something about accidentally having typos in your chat because you're not proficient in the other languages yet sounds really interesting to me, but the implementation of just needing to type words in chat in that language definitely needed refinement.
I was the lone Diablo guy in my group of friends that were all WoW players. They always tried to get me to convert and after watching your vids I really wish I had listened. Haven’t played a min of WoW but have watched all your videos. Keep it coming MadSeason!
Your videos are always a joy to watch. This series is very interesting, as well! I'm intrigued to see what models they would use if they decided to finally finish the old scrapped zones in vanilla plus, how it would match the rest of the aesthetic etc. (Would they create new "vintage" pieces!?) Gnome in 0:47 looks straight outta South Park. Keep them coming! Peace out!
Hey Mads, I just wanted to thank you for persevering in doing what you love for so many years and keeping your passion going! Your videos got me through some rough times I can't thank you enough for making these. Love from Croatia!
Fun fact: The dwarf mage is actually hardcoded to be disallowed in the vanilla client as a "hackfix". You cannot simply make a Dwarf Mage despite enabling it serverside; it requires a client hack to actually remove this bandaid fix, or some bizarre methods (such as swapping Warlock and Mage class enumerations in the client so that Dwarf Warlock is disabled instead).
@madseasonshow i love how you use FF6, Chrono trigger and other SNES games music in your videos. These RPGs were from my childhood. The same childhood than WoW. So they hit me with the same nostalgia. May all the Love of the World be with you Madseason. And may God give you best in this life and in the other
I came across your videos after the recent unrelenting ads for the upcoming WoW add on… which gave me some nostalgia to see how WoW has been doing after all this time. I dropped out of WoW after the first add on… I know “what a casual!” In any case, thanks for your videos breaking down all the massive changes to what WoW was, and it looks like I got out of the game at a good time. I do miss what this game was in vanilla & I would say even in to what it remained pre-cataclysm, even if I wish they brought some QOL tools (some shared progress with factions between characters, etc.) and many of these pieces of unfinished content you’ve highlighted in these videos that came after. No matter what they could do with vanilla WoW I doubt they could ever bring back the Community it had in vanilla days. Though at times I do wish vanilla+ could be redeveloped to be a more persistent sandbox in that Original+ state to explore again, ideally without any of the monetization and daily/weekly task craziness themes of todays game titles. I’m sure it’s a pipe dream, but with Microsoft involvement I’d love to see a cross platform option to reach a new audience for vanilla.
Oh nice, so you did get that sponsor. Thanks for the vid, love ya. Edit: so happy the plush's back again, instant order on that one. I'll convince him to tank eventually :D
What they can do for player housing is created a portal in every major city that will take you to an instanced area that could allow you to place building down that you want and so on And these instanced areas could also take on the design of whatever major city zone you chose For instance if you chose Stormwimd it would take in the look of elwynn Forrest/Stormwimd
One of those things that do make you question, why couldn't they do player housing now? Using Brawl'gar arena as an example of a instanced area not restricted by player or group, and is used by all. To also see every, in the area couldn't they add a building where you can see everyone buying their homes and it being a separate zone map with crops, herbs, nodes, or mobs to skin? Would love to be able to hang up my armor on a stand or shelf and sit down with a virtual spouse or friend, and just chill with the hearth making it's usual sound. Or instruments to play. Still want the option to lean on walls if you go afk near one, or just to do it for immersion. Like being bored from waiting.
Finally someone else mentions the spell skills. When I first played WoW the undead could speak common and I could rank up in spells. People have always told me I’m not remembering correctly. I must have played the beta somehow but my parents beta tested UO and EQ so it’s possible
That music choice is like a greatest-hits tour of varied game soundtracks. Slight correction, though it's just for lore nerds of course: the Ironforge entrance statue isn't of Magni or any Bronzebeards even, it's High King Anvilmar, the last ruler of all dwarves before they split up into Ironforge, Grim Batol and Wildhammer. That future WoD episode is going to be so painful to watch in a what-could-have-been sense. I always felt WoD had like half an expansion more still left in it and coulda been great.
My dad was an old school mmo player played daoc , ultima etc and I remember being around 7 years old when vanilla wow beta came out. I remember ironforge being 2 stories in the beta and growing up playing wow people always thought I was crazy making something up. I thought I had dreamed it or was just a foggy memory lol

We're never getting a game like classic WoW again. Even the new Classic wow isn't the same thing. I remember being hyped to play when classic was announced, jumped in two weeks late and people were already min maxxing. Org had people selling SM boosts with mages, some teams were selling boosts through raids, bots were everywhere in the barrens and even the barrens chat was more "for the memes" than actually people trying to kill time while walking from one place to the next. A mate of mine even started telling me how to level my class...I just wanted to level prot warrior. There's never going to be something like vanilla wow, a game made by people who were making all of these plans for their jank, cobbled together little project that was meant to bump shoulders with everquest. Like survival profession would've been the shit if they managed to implement it right. It's sad really, the closest thing we ever got was Guild Wars 2 but that game is just so weird, I should love it but I just can't.
I remember when the level cap was 40 and the sentry totem for shamans was bugged and you could jump off cliffs and use it to stop you in the air. Classic was really funy with all the oddities that were in the game initally.

11:46 so glad to hear you mention Turtle WoW, the absolute best classic plus server out there. Finally it's starting to get proper recognition.

Glad to see you enjoying making WoW videos again and getting uploads so often.

That "boss light that requires torches" is kinda funny with how the current expansion just added a dungeon that utilises light and dark.
Woohoo! Thanks for the video, brother
Its amazing to see how many things turtle wow server made real on their server.
Awesome job as always Mad! Always loved the secrets of vanilla episodes!
If I'm remembering correctly, the old game manual also had Plainsrunning for Tauren instead of the eventual Kodo mounts.
Yeah, it made reference to their size and how they were too big for a mount. Or something like that
Yes, back then kodo rode on you
