Model a Water Splash - Halo Mongoose Diorama
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лип 2024
- I have had a bottle of UV resin for a while and it was time to put it through its paces and model a water splash with the Master Chief riding through a resin river.
I used GreenStuffWorld (www.greenstuffworld.com) UV resin, plus their epoxy resin for the river and their splash gel for the ripples. They did send me these for free but I've noticed how long some water gels take to clear and this was nice and quick. The resin had no bubbles which was also perfect for modelling rivers!
This was built using a World of Halo Mongoose from Jazwares - I bought mine on eBay and you may have to hunt around.

That is a big splash; I'm sure David Hockney would be jealous. 🌊
Very good water effect, I like it very much. Thank you for showing. 🤗👍
wow. I always learn something every time I watch Ms. Millatt. She should have 100 thousand subscribers! It's ridiculous that weaker modellers have more than she does.
A warthog with master chief and a couple marines would look awesome :)
The warthog was the last video!
This is so freaking cool 12 year old me just in awe. It would be really cool to see chief fighting a brute or something.
I do have the models…
Best Water effect I've come across so far!!!
I love watching your videos your the queen of models and diorama,s to I do learn a hole lot from your videos happy modeling be safe and have a nice day to
Thank you so much!
you are so gifted, Kathy!
Looks really great.
Thanks so much!
I love how you made the three main water spray walls and the spray effect on top of that again. In the finished photo sessions at certain angles, it truly looks amazing Kathy. A very realistic 3D photo as a 360' splash that is frozen in time. Girl, you blow my mind with your finished dioramas and modelling skills for producing them.
Another cracking tutorial Kathy , keep them coming
This is my comment to appease the great algorithm
Cool! Love that spray!
Wow Kathy it looks amazing!
Awesome final result.
Wow well done. Thanks for sharing.
Super cool! love halo and this looks great thanks for sharing
Super cool. Well done
Once again a beautiful diorama from my favorite scifi universe. Great job!
Looks absolutely amazing!
Oh Kathy. Oh Kathy. You’ve decided to answer all of my UV Resin existential questions (i.e., what in the hell do I use to keep it from sticking!?!) Lovely. Thanks! Can’t wait to try this out….
Good luck when you try it!
Kathy; once again your magic shines through this diorama (:
Excellent work Kathy! That water looks excellent!
Thanks a lot Neal.
Awesome - no other word.
What fun, Kathy!!! Awesome detail and product recs - thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Such a cool hobby 😉👍
Great looking water splash, that UV resin looks like useful stuff.
Superb technique, the water splash/spray is very realistic
This. Is. Amazing.
That turned out looking really good. Well done.
Awesome Job
Wow! Brilliant attention to detail with some innovative methods. Fantastic results.
Thanks George.
I really like that ! Thanks for showing us how you did it . I think I can do that too.
Very effective, one of (if not the) the best splash effects I have ever seen on a model
Thank you!
Such an awesome display! Love your videos! Continued success to you!
Thanks so much!
Very... very... very interesting vidéo as usuel. Thank you so much.
This looks so good!!
Thank you.
you did a wonderful job on the diorama
Hi Kathy, another stunning diorama, the water splash looks amazing, you've captured the effect of a frozen moment in time to perfection, you're a legend, girl, stay safe, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
I love it!
I like your hack with the vacuum after applying the static grass 😊
It works so well!
This looks amazing 🤩
Also im going to remember the stocking over the vacuum and the paper towel glue shield thing….wish I’d thought/known about that sooner lol
Wonderful stuff!
That looks very realistic! I love the use of the UV resin, especially over a curved mould, very clever, the nock snow is an inspired idea to enhance the polyfiber.
Hi Timber. I got the snow idea from Real Terrain Hobbies and use it all the time now for white water.
Nice work and I do like the Halo gear
Wow!!!! When i think you have outdone yourself, you raise the Bar. Great work.👍👏👏👏👏👏👌
Thanks a lot!
Brilliant.
Very nice Thanks for a fine video and Good Xmas
Fantastic work, I know it's not easy but you make it look easy great stuff.👍
amazing
Great work Kathy. Looks like the masterchief is hitting that little creek pretty hard. That's a very realistic effect.
Incredible! I think it looks fine without gloss coating the Mongoose since you are capturing a second in time where it has just entered the stream. Just simply outstanding work. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John!
You are a wizard (also what great halo figures jazwares is making).
Aren’t they just! I wish it was easier to get more in the U.K.
love it
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 parabéns pela criatividade, sem palavras 🇧🇷
good vid keep up the good vids
You've got to be chuffed with that it looks fantastic
I did like the way the UV resin came out - definitely a technique I’ll use again.
Nice video
Hello Kathy. UV resin is a fascinating medium. This turned out well. Although the froth looks great and enhances the splash, it was a pity to cover up those magnificent resin splashes. But it’s for the overall effect, isn’t it. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing. Bye.
WOW!
looks great. :)
I personally think dioramas look better without the water spray look using cotton, I have never seen a diorama pull it off convincingly.
This is awesome! I always have loved Halo, but another dioramas that I really love are Titanic ones... I just wish I could make one
Titanic would be epic!
Very nice Kathy.
Great tutorial on river beds and water. I might use that approach on the river on my layout when the time comes.
How do those products go against polystyrene river banks. Some resins go opaque over time I've heard, from other UA-camrs.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.
Monique from Brisbane
Hi Monique.
I’ve not tried against polystyrene I’m afraid. I’ve had resin yellow on me but never go opaque. As I do muddy water a lot, the yellowing doesn’t bother me too much.
Hope that helps.
...might not be for everyone, but I reckons this also works if one assumes the wee green chap has just succeeded in hitting a sheep. :-)
UV resin is useful for things you need to dry fast :) I used it for the fins on a hippocampus model
*cure
It will never dry in the dark :p
I hadn't used it as a glue before but I will in future.
That was my worry about using it for gluing deep joints.
@@KathyMillatt Its a chain reaction...would still work.
@@LaserGadgets that’s good to know, thank you!
Dear Madam,
Do you wear UV protective goggles whilst using the UV torch? I am shure you do, but not everyone reads the manual....
Love your art! And you teach us so much! Thanks!
Cheers from Brazil!
I didn’t even know such things existed and the torch didn’t have a manual…
Hi Kathy! Loved your video! So educational and exactly what I was looking for. May I make a suggestion please? Could you put a list of materials used in the description or comments or something? Just so it's easier to go...shopping lol
I used to do that linked on my website but it’s a lot of work and very few people used as I can see the analytics. I do plan to put a basic list of tools and materials on the website at some point.
UV resin is amazing stuff.
My dentist friend told me about it years ago...... I just never thought of using it in a modeling format until recently. Lol.
Another great diorama and "how to" video!!!!
Thanks Rex. I’ve had a bottle for a while for puddles etc but never really tried it. I’m definitely using it more in future.
Hi Kathy, Fantastic look , and very realistic, very good imagination very talented ( at the beginning with the spray bottle , love the hand on the hip 😁 , what else in the pipeline?, All the Best Brian 🤗😎
Hi Brian. Thanks and I’m doing two dioramas at the moment.
@@KathyMillatt Hi Kathy, Don't forget to stop for a coffee break 😍
Hi Kathy, where do you get your Halo models from?, great work, very inspiring. I want to build something similar.
Amazon or eBay. These are World of Halo by Jazwares. I have a brute and Banished Ghost too.
Thanks for the tip on the tall grass. I'm trying to do a field right now with about 3' tall grass and it's been trial and error with a lot of failures. Looks like I may give this a try.. but I want the look of an unkept field that gets bailed once a year.. any ideas other than what you did?
Layers help a lot plus knocking it around a bit before the glue is dry. I’ve done a few videos on grass.
Love the videos. I do taxidermy and i would like to recreate the splash of a duck landing in the water with his feet but don’t know a starting point any ideas thanks.
Cool idea! Something similar to this technique could work well. UV resin is probably your best bet for the splash.
Interested in the acetate edging you used , what thicknesses was it please Kathy.
Whatever I had to hand. I have used everything from thin to thick acetate sheet but around 2-3mm is generally thick enough and easier to snap. It really does depend on your diorama and resin pour volume though.
What do you do with your competed dioramas, Kathy? Do you sell them or build on commission?
They’re mostly on display. I’ve given away some but only ever sold one.
That’s an ATV driving into my grandma’s hair!
🤣🤣🤣
Are you going to make one for each of the "4 elements"?
Now that’s a great idea. I do have a Banished ghost too.
I like when britts say hoover up instead of vacuum
