I’ve owned 4 Land Rovers….Defender, Range Rover P38, Range Rover Sport L322 & currently a Sport Autobiography SDV6 3 litre diesel. I do most of my own car maintenance & repairs. For the general maintenance Range Rover’s are marginally more expensive than other cars. But not as claimed on this video. I’ve run them to 100,000 miles with no huge issues, other than the expected items. If you’re someone who’s gonna put your car into the main dealer for everything then what the video says is broadly true. But if you’re a competent home mechanic as I am, you can do most jobs yourself & save your money for the specialist jobs. I spend around £250 a year on routine maintenance- I’m a stickler for regular annual oil changes etc. That’s about twice what I pay for my wife’s VW Golf, but nothing exceptional. If you want to own one don’t be put off entirely by this video…it’s all worst case stuff. Get to know your car, do some home mail & you’ll likely be ok. They’re great cars to drive & own if you do your homework. And avoid using main dealers if possible (true for any make of car). Enjoy

bought a used 2010 used LR2 with 50k in 2015. A few issues and now has 160k. I just use it as commuter car now. Yes, parts are expensive. The lr2 was discontinued so yes , i bought it super cheap. I am lucky to have an independent LR mechanic in town when it does break. Boy does he have some LR stories to tell. If you own one find a mechanic that knows how to work on one. The LR dealership wanted to charge me 500 to replace a key fob. Thanks to amazon and youtube i got it done for $30 bucks.

Bought a 2014 five years ago had no problem, before that had an eight year old Porsche Cayenne no problem. Fact is as soon as you buy 2nd hand car you maybe inheriting someone else's problem or might be that's a just car that was traded in for a newer one, with no problems.

I have owned multiple used JLR products over the years and all I have ever done is regular maintenance. Current 2019 RRS with 5.0 has been a blast. Oil changes at home with JLR filter and approved oil costs $185. They depreciate just like every other car, high end or not. This video is proof that anyone can make their opinion heard with or without facts to back it up.

I bougjt a 1990 RR Classic in 2016. I knew she was rough, and she barely did 50mph on the way home. I literally had to stop and get an air filter on the way home. I changed the plugs, wires, distributor, oil, trans flush, diff flush, transfer case flush, all the u-joints, brakes and rotors. 85mph on the fwy. (1990 was pre sway bar, so squirrley above 85). She ran great after the repairs.
I also discovered that you have to be "tuned in" , and understand certain things about Land Rovers. If you understand, and you can do maintenance yourself, you can avoid costly repairs. I own an Evoque as my daily. Just did the radiator hose for $65. Brembo rotors and pads cost less than $400. Currently looking for a RR Sport as a tow vehicle.

Range rovers break regardless of driver lol. My coworker bought a brand new one and it had to be towed to the dealership 3 times in the first year because it kept breaking. She drove it like a normal car, to work and back. To the grocery store. And it just couldn't handle it all that haha. British don't know how to make a car.

Range Rover enthusiasts here. I tell people if they want a RR then buy a new one with a factory warranty (dont waste money on an aftermarket warranty, they will hardly approve any repairs). If you can't afford a new one then buy one at around $20k.... not any more than that. At around that price you still have a depreciation curve but not that much. Yes the truck will have more miles but here is the key,. You have to find one that was LOVED... buy one from an enthusiast or somebody who took care of their RR... DO NOT buy one from some wannabe poser (hard to do I know). Buy one from a family who had it since new... has legit service records and so on. At around 100-120k miles a lot of things that were going to go wrong from new have already gone wrong for the most part. Make sure you get receipts, make sure the oil was changed RELIGIOUSLY at no more than 5-6k miles.. NOT 10k. If they tell you or you see long stretches like that between oil changes do not walk away.. RUN... these engines last a good while but you have to do oil changes frequently. I do mine at 5k or 6 months no more with the recommended oil and an anti friction additive from Liquid Moly. The other key to used RR ownership no matter the year is you must not be afraid to tackle some repairs yourself... yes, you cant go running to a mechanic every time the car throws an error. You need a solid Land Rover scan tool (usually at around 150-200 bucks) not just an $5 OBD scan tool. If you dont know how to use them and maybe tackle some repairs yourself then learn to do it. This can save you THOUSANDS and you can be back on the road in no time instead of having to deal with mechanics and waiting for your car to be repaired. If you have absolutely no desire to do that even a little bit and dont know anyone with some auto mechanic knowledge that can help you then keep about 5k in a bank account for emergency repairs to your RR... or like I said.. buy a new one.

Range Rovers are awesome. People usually treat them like crap and don’t maintain them properly before pushing those issues off on to someone else. They are pricey to run and people don’t realise that because they can get them at a good price but they definitely aren’t as bad as what people say. And why in the world would you take an old vehicle to the main dealer? You’re just looking for reasons to throw away money no matter the brand but instead take it to a specialist.

@@GaudinX Most people? Do you know most people all over the world? Probably not. Before I bought my first Rover Sport I asked people who I saw driving them if they'd buy it again or buy another one. Every one of them said they'd buy another one. Now I'm on my 3rd. All this crap talk about them being bad is just crap talk from people who repeat stuff they've heard, or had a single bad experience so they now hate on all Rovers.
I also own a BMW 740i, and I had a 750li before that. Both of them MUCH newer than my Rover. BOTH of them constantly in the shop. I won't ever buy another one, but I won't tell others that the 7 Series is a bad car. I justbsay that I had two bad experiences so I won't buy it again. I'm sure there is someone who swears they are the best car they've ever owned. I won't disagree with them based in that person's experience.
