That would mean the native, natural language of the people. Now, coming to the national anthem of India, IT IS WRITTEN IN BANGLA. You declaring it written in Hindi, really degrades your language channel. I suggest you edit and repost the video. He was the editor of a Bengali Magazine Tattobodhini Potrika, where he published his poem first in Bengali of course, in Bangla script. Rabindranath never wrote in Hindi. Bengal being the centre of British India till that time, and Bengalis being the most elite of all Indians, there was little interest among Bengalis to learn or write in Hindi language. Virtually no one in that period of time in Kolkata and of Bengali extraction, would read and write Hindi. In the event of King George V coming to India in December 1911, to be coronated as "Emperor of India", the song was sung for the first time in 11th December, 1911. Despite subsequent denials about its "meaning", even by Rabindranath himself, any Bengali person will understand that it was sung in praise of the King of England. It was reported as such by newspapers in Kolkata of the day, like The Statesman. The King of England did one thing officially on that trip that certainly delighted Rabindranath, he repealed the partition of Bengal which all Bengalis disliked, done to split Bengal along religious lines to dampen the fight for Independence in 1905. Subsequently, the Indian National Congress had adopted the song as a national anthem and finally in the Constituent Assembly the flag and anthem were chosen. There could have been much better, plainly patriotic, songs chosen for the same.
Some people come into our lives and go and in between, they make our lives better in some way or the other. No matter what caused you both to get separated from each other, you can stay as friends without holding grudges against each other, I mean, that is the least that we all can do, else it would be sad.
I never heard the the title or heard the song "Ekla Chalo" that you mentioned although I am from Sri Lanka. After reading your comment, I came across the song on UA-cam. The most famous song with Bengali lyrics I have heard is the Indian National Anthem. My favourite Bengali song is the Sri Lankan song by the Sri Lankan music legend Sunil Santha who shaped the Sinhala music industry in Sri Lanka with his own music style, while he sang one of his songs in the Bengali language which was called Bondu Re and you can listen to it via this link on UA-cam => ua-cam.com/video/s1XdqdCPkgo/v-deo.html
@@JuLingo Were you able to checkout the Bengali song sung by the famous Sri Lankan Music Legend in Sri Lanka Sunil Santha that I shared above in another comment about the Song titled Bondu Re (recorded by Sunil Santha) . The Lyrics shared in the video above although the language of the song is in the Bengali Language, the Lyrics seen in the video are written in the Sri Lankan native Sinhala Language Script. According to what I am aware Bondu Re was the only Bengali Song that he had recorded before he died in Sri Lanka.

One thing I must add. Bengali has a very rich literature. If Bengali was a familiar language in Europe, it would have bagged the most noble prize by a non-european language. Rabindranath received it because he was a very familiar figure in Europe at that time. Many more would have received the noble if they were as familiar as Rabindranath in Europe, or the language had a good familiarity in Europe.

Bangladeshi band songs are very diverse. You can explore them. One point I would like to add is that Bangladeshi Bengali culture and Indian Bengali culture are not the same.
@kumar_8420 not really Bangladesh has different dialects of Bangla regardless of religion such as Dhakaiya, Chatgaiya, Sylheti and lot of other dialects that influence the procholito Bangla used in BD
I noticed some similarities between Bangla and Japanese: koro (do in english) is kuru in Japanese; there are counter suffixes - "der" is the same in both, jon in Bangla is jin in Japanese for person; hamaguri (to crawl) means snail in Japanese (the way it moves?); choto (small) is chiotto in Japanese and soto in Latin (?) as in sotovoce, etc.

'0' olympic medal till now, also they always stay in the last in cricket(national sports of Bangladesh). No famous doctors, engineers, scientists you ever heard of are Bangladeshi. You can never understand the full spectrum of the Bengali language if you do not come to Bangladesh. The differences among various dialects give the language a rich diversity which is totally awesome. Nowadays Chittagonian and Sylheti have become so distinct from Bangla that they are considered different language forms by many scholars. As a non native to Bengal you did a pretty good job presenting a total and concise history of our beloved mother tongue. Thank you. ❤
Totally. It is sad to see how the standardized Shadhu Bangla overshadows the regional and local bangla. Eastern Bangla spoken in Brahmanbaria has more consonants than Hawaiian and Arakanese(chittagongian) Dhobashi bangla has a rich history of Bangla in persian script.

There is one most significant man missing in this discussion, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. He has a significant role in comprising the modern bengali grammar and letters that we use now, without the mention of his "Bornoparichoy" the history of our language will be incomplete.
When the national anthem was accepted, it was not classified as hindi, but as the anthem was written in bengali, it is in bengali, still it is sung in bengali, hindi and other accents regarding where it is being sung, but majorly in international sports events generally it is sung in hindi accent

I learnt recently the Bengali grammar was first written down by a portuguese person and further developed by William Carey who was an Englishman (i thought he was Scottish ) and then taken forward by a local person popularly known among Bengalis as Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar who was a Sanskrit scholar. Interestingly hardly any Portuguese person knows about this , neither any english person probably about the contribution of William Carey in developing the 7th most widely spoken language of the world.
@@blueman710 No doubt, the song was written in Bengali. But, may be of any modern Indian IEL with slight change in pronunciation. If you pronounce JANO GANO MANO ...then it's BANGLA and it is Hindi if pronounced JANA GANA MANA . Difference between any two modern Indian IEL is so little!
@@SUBHADIPHOTA Pronunciation differences do not change the original language of a piece. I commented against the video stating that it is technically Hindi, which is not accurate. The transition from Jano Gano Mano to Jana Gana Mana can occur in many Indian languages, not just Hindi. However, this subtle alteration does not mean it has become Hindi. Each language has its unique identity, and the anthem was originally composed in Bengali, and every Bengali should protest this misrepresentation.
@blueman710 Actually, the song was composed in Bangla and Rabindranath himself sang it in 1911. It was adopted as the National Anthem in 1950 and only the first stanza in Devnagri script. Pronunciation in Devnagri becomes like JANA GANA .... Some say that , it's the Hindi version, though I don't know whether the adopters announced it to be the Hindi version or not . But, linguistically, it may be so. I wanted to tell about that .
@RonBhattacharya You are correct. The language can pass for Hindi or Gujarati or Rajasthani or Bihari or Marathi if the Os are pronounced as A . It can be called AXOMIYA only if you pronounce ZA for JA and HA for SA . Rabindranath wrote it keeping in mind the entire India . So, every language of India should have rights over it . This anthem shows every day how close all the languages of India are . Though there's no doubt it was written in Bengali at first. Actually, it has potential to be World Anthem if BHARATA, PUNJABA ....etc. are dropped and Engraja , Soudi etc. are incorporated. Rabindranath here hails controller of fate of humanity and asks boon for every one.

@@alguient1298 it's not the retroflex sounds only that make Bengali sound unique. There are many things that give Bengali its uniqueness. Apenthesis and Umlaut are responsible for giving Bengali words different shape . Take the word UPAVITA ( sacred thread) it becomes PAVITA then PAITAA then POITAA and finally POITE . It's difficult to find that the root word is UPAVITA here . The root word is DHRITVA ( catching hold) . It becomes DHARIAA >DHOIRA>DHORYA>DHORE . Words of no other language go through such changes . Besides, in Bengali some sounds are not there . There is no VA , Murdhanya NA/ SA/LA ( retroflex) in Bengali.The YA sound in the beginning of the word becomes JA . So YAMUNA is JOMUNA . The YUKTA VYANJANAS are pronounced differently, as BHAGYA is BHAGGO ( omissions of Ya and doubling of last consonant) , SWAPNA >Sapno , BR.KSHA>BRIKKHO , MURKHA> MUKKHO>MUKKHU , SURYA>SURJO . Besides, the AU / AW sound that ends the words in PRAKRIT turns to be O in Bengali. So , BADA becomes BADO , KSHUDRA becomes KHUDRO . There are many distinctive features of Bengali language left, but, I have little time to discuss here now.

The "Bangla is the sweetest language" is a very Sub-continent thing. Only they can differentiate their own language with Bangla, most of of us people outside of the Sub-continent have no idea whatsoever what makes it 'sound' sweet.
the sweetness is multifaceted , its the language sounds which are gentle eliminates hard and tough sounds, its smooth and poetic , the geography, the cuisine, the riverine deltas and sweet fresh water and fertile soils and the homely mother like nature and society overall is the reason why its sweet and gentle overall! the famous poet Jibanananda Das wrote "i have seen the face of Bengal, thus I dont want to find the beauty of the world anymore"

Ekla Chalo is the most played Bengali song in Sri Lanka, because Sri Lankan people liked the melody and original music video.
It's actually Ekla Cholo
Thanks will check it out
Thanks for the information. I didn't know about this.

19:01 Bengali doesn't have gender and it's incredible. In indo-european languages, there a little bit languages without gender, por example: Assamese, Bengali, Farsi and English.
Does not have or have lost it, like English did?
@@dmitrykazakov2829 Yes, bengali lost grammatical gender.
What about Afrikaans? I don't speak it but I read a post on social media that that also lost the classification of nouns into grammatical genders?
Quick correction: Armenian and Albanian also don't have gender.
It is interesting, though, that the farthest reaches of the family share such a notable feature with one another. I genuinely wonder why that could be
@@dmitrykazakov2829Even English got gender in pronoun E.G. He/She, Him / Her but Bengal does not have that.

Bangladeshi band songs are very diverse. You can explore them. One point I would like to add is that Bangladeshi Bengali culture and Indian Bengali culture are not the same.
As per religious aspect
Actually the difference looks big only from up close. Take a look from outside and it's practically same with some difference in detail.
Thank Julingo! For talking about my language 🇧🇩💚

Bangladeshi বাংলা is a forceful mixture of Urdu(50%)+Hindi(20%)+ and rest of gibberish Bengali. And more than half of bangladeshi is illiterate.
Example:
Bengali---->Urdu
বাবা---->আব্বু
মা---->আম্মু
জল---->পানি
Also Bangladeshi converted muslims isn't a part of the historical rich Bengali culture. Bangladeshi blindly follow the culture of Arabic muslims (who also don't recognize them as muslims).
What an irony, they also accepted Pakistan(who savaged and raped them) as their father!
Also there are '0' bangladeshi people who ever won a noble prize in their literature or any of the constructive causes.
No renowned Bangladeshi player in any kind of sports as well. '0' olympic medal till now, also they always stay in the last in cricket(national sports of Bangladesh).

Interestingly hardly any Portuguese person knows about this , neither any english person probably about the contribution of William Carey in developing the 7th most widely spoken language of the world.
totally wrong. Technically, theoretically, linguistically, in every aspect our national anthem is written in BENGALI..Not in Hindi.
Yes... but it's easy to sing in 'any' of the Indian languages... which was a factor for choosing it as the anthem.

Bengali language served as the link language for South and Southeast Asia for thousands of years. From the holy city of *Varanasi in Northern India* to the *Arakans of the Myanmar* The word *Bungalow* is literally derived from Bangla depicting the Bengali architecture of houses. But, unfortunately modern day Bengal has been greatly affected by centuries of misgovernance of the British Economic, Cultural and Social Policies by the famines and droughts. Hence, its insignificant position in the global order. We all hope and believe *Bengal* will rise to its former glory sooner than we think 😊
There are many common words between Bengali and Farsi and Bengali and Portuguese besides Sanskrit and English.

15:28 That's because the "retroflex" sounds in Bengali are apical, it's represented like [ʈ̺ ɖ̺].
19:22 mixed up intimate and familiar. Othewwise great video. Loved it!
Bengali totally sounds like an Indo-European language. At first my brain was tricked I thought the man was speaking Spanish.
I'm Bengali and indeed it is an Indo-European language.
I am a bengali and learned spanish recently and indeed I realised sounds very similar to Spanish, I mean for me Spanish sounds similar to Bengali!!
haha, it is!
Thank you so much for sharing !
I have many Indian friends, because I'm studying Sanskrit and I quite frequently come across comments about the Bengali language sounding sweet. It seems to be the Italian of India.
That's Telugu the Italian of the east
@@rische-z3zyeah Bengali is the French of the East
@@MedinipuriTuka036 yeah I agree both are beautiful languages in india and got appreciation from each other poets and coincidentally Both film industries named as tollywood. Telugu is the sweetest in southern India and bengali is sweeter in northern India. Because of Telugu's language structure the Italian person nicolo di conti named Telugu as Italian of the east
I live in Italy and i can speak Italian and can you write some telegu in latin script ??@@rische-z3z
@@rische-z3z In Europe, we often compare sweet sounding languages to Italian. Turkish also is referred to as "the Italian of the East". Most westerners are familiar with the sound of Italian because of opera. It is our standard for comparing other beautiful languages to.
Pretty good breakdown of the Bengali language and history.
Dhonnobad. Your presentation is good but you forgot to mention one man that is Ishvarchandra Vidyasagar. He was the first to introduce the Bengali community to the Bengali alphabet through his written book 'Varnaparichaya'.
It is very fascinating to see that the research is done very deeply, appreciated that
I am Indian Bengali your video so nice🚩🇮🇳👍🇮🇳🚩🚩🇮🇳🇮🇳👍
we are lucky to be born as a Bengali because Bengali pronunciation is so hard. The speaker is making perfect pronunciation which is appreciable. Bengali is quite tough to learn.
I always enjoy your videos Julie and most times i learn something as well. Bravo and well done.
Thank you so much!
Thank you julingo for make this as a Bengali I appreciate you .
My mother tongue is Chittagonian.But I speak Bangla as my second language.It is a very rich language and it has a thousand years old history.
Love from Bangladesh.
Dude chittinga language is a bangla dialect (upabhasa) not a different language
@@Ariyan_1709 It depends who do you ask. There are two different schools of thought about sylheti and chittagonian language . Some says they are completetly different language like asamese.
@@kaziahad8960 dialect and language difference is more political than linguistical. We are fully culturally and politically Bangladeshi. So it's a dialect.
@@Ariyan_1709 I am not saying chittagongonian and sylheti are not bangladeshi. The language they use is not mutually intelligible which is one of the criteria to become different language. BTW sylheti has different script and literature. Chittagonian also has different literature. Because of bengali renaissance during 19th century and after that bengali nationalism during pakistani era, all language in east bengal were considered a form of bengali. Btw Sylheti in UK study in sylheti dialects

Outstanding research
Gitanjali (Bengali: গীতাঞ্জলি, lit. ''Song offering'') is a collection of poems by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913, ****for its English translation****
Nobel prize is not a big deal
.. just a propaganda prize
Typical m@dr@sa6ap thoughts😂
Bangladeshi বাংলা is a forceful mixture of Urdu(50%)+Hindi(20%)+ and rest of gibberish Bengali. And more than half of bangladeshi is illiterate.
Example:
Bengali---->Urdu
বাবা---->আব্বু
মা---->আম্মু
জল---->পানি
No famous doctors, engineers, scientists you ever heard of are Bangladeshi.
Their only pride is their mass production of the population who claim them as Bengali.
What a shame..!!
@@fireandice-p6h You Don't Know Anything My Child.
I think you quit right.
But that's time not our modern age nor India is independent.
That's time quite difficult. Rabindranath Tagore was a greatest poet in our Bengali litrature and also 1st asian who won the noble prize. Please respect him.
Love from West Bengal, India 🇮🇳❤
10:40 we Bengalis sing it with Bengali pronunciation
Same here bro, why sing it in a different accent when the language itself is bengali 😂
As a Bangladeshi Bangali.... Thanks for making a video on this subject.....❤
Agreed
Thank you from West Bengal, India 🇮🇳
There is none other languages where our heros died to achieve the language in 1952, proud to be a bengali❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your cat is so beautiful. I miss my Bengal. RIP Genghis Khat (1995-2013). The finest soul I have ever known.
