    I come from an 07 R1 and enjoyed all of the 50k kms I rode in that. But over almost 10 years of riding I learned to value simplicity of riding so after testing both of them I fell completely in love with the bicicle nature of the Trident. I have had it for a month now and love every minute on the bike.

      How do you like it? I really wish I would have listened to several people who told me to go bigger, but I went the safe route and bought an MT-03 for my first street bike. While it is fun, it has NO power. Already plotting the switch to a middleweight

    As an older rider, I was tempted by the more sensible, refined Trident. But, figuring I get a smooth experience from my car, I went for the MT. And it’s so raw and rewarding every trip. Instant, constant fun every time you fire her up!

    Have a trident and love it. Styling. Performance. But that’s just me. Totally appreciate the MT 07. Ridden it a few times. Dope bike. For me the Trident is best. For others, the MT 07. Moreover, on trident I Like the modes, slip/assist, and quick shifter. You can’t go wrong with either though. You’ll love either one

  • @AppleGonCrumble

    As a Trident owner who has put thousands of miles on it, your last point was your best. If you are a newer/returning rider, get the Trident. As for a major disagreement while the platform may be completely new. The components are very much not. This 660 engine has been on the market for years, it is a shorter stroke 675. I would also say if you plan on doing anything more aggressive than stoplight to stoplight pick the Trident. Just a better platform to do so with a bit more premium components. Either bike will brighten your day!

    • @AppleGonCrumble
      @AppleGonCrumble 3 роки тому +3

      @yolo i would consider twisty roads at a "spirited" pace sporty. A super common complaint of the mt-07 is that the front suspension isn't very firm or confidence inspiring in a corner (people will often compare it to a pogo stick). The tires that come stock on the Trident are also a great compound on the sidewalls that provide great grip (Michelin Road pilot 5s) and I know that the previous year model mt07 came with a pretty cheap set of tires that you wanted to wear out as quick as possible and replace immediately but maybe that is an issue they fixed. The slipper clutch is a massive lifesaver if you are riding aggressively and accidentally dont rev match perfectly because it will not cause the back wheel to skip and bounce, the Trident has this and it is almost a deal breaker for me in the future if my next bike has one or not.

      @AppleGonCrumble 3 роки тому +1

      @yolo no no, maybe I didnt make my point well enough. I think the Trident does the twisties better. I think why people say the Trident is "for beginners" is more the way it delivers its power and the way you can make it more manageable with things like rain mode. I also think it is for more advanced riders who enjoy dragging knees because the suspension is more set up for it than the mt07. Did that make it more clear?

    OC: I think you nailed it. I have been riding 2 wheels all my life, it seems. I started on an old “mini-bike,” the kind I think you probably can’t even get anymore. Briggs & Stratton engine, all steel, and no safety. Culminated in a Suzuki GSX-750F in 1990. I kept that bike until July 2020. Now I ride an SV650. On paper, the old Katana was a better bike. Engine, suspension, everything. But I’m MUCH happier with the SV650, because it can dart around better with its torque down low. The Katana, even with the larger engine, being 4-cylinder, had to get well up in the rev range to really cook. It would really cook, but it just wasn’t as much fun.
    I don’t have nearly the experience that you and all the ‘tubers have with multiple bikes. But I’m happiest with quick, usable torque.

Silly I know but could happen. OC: I really like this take as a whole. Picked up my 19' MT07 a couple months ago now and during that process I was having to make the decision between it and potentially a trident. I think you summed up a lot of the points that I also was feeling which inevitably made me go the Yamaha route.
    It is my first big bike after graduating from a Grom (miss tf out of that thing. Will own another ASAP) During my decision process the fact that the FZ/MT platform proven solid was a big thing that put me on in the first place. Like you mentioned with Yamaha putting the CP2 in a number of their other bikes. It is proven quality on a number of levels from fun and power to reliability and aftermarket support. I have also simply been aware of the platform for longer, having watched all the motovlog guys talk about it essentially since the platforms debut in the 2015/16 days.
    Its also hugely that feeling thing you talked about. The bike looks amazing to me and sounds even better. I definitely think the Trident would be a worthy option, but very similarly to the overall idea I feel this video was touching on is the MT is simply its own beast and to me the Trident seemed like a "safer" bike in a sort of boring way. Sort of like the version of the MT that my dad would buy. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but the MT is just a more exciting bike, just as you said. I am excited to get on this bike every time I take it out. Even if it is just the couple miles to work.

After a long period spent looking at a potential ride for her, she made her decision. Both fit her perfectly. Both were in her budget, she rode both. When she rode the Trident she commented on how easy to ride and comfortable it was. She said she felt more in control on the triumph. She likes tech s as well. She’s also 60 years old. Triumph has been in the 600ish triple game for a long time (longer than the CP2 has been around?). So the reliability concern doesn’t really make sense to me. The MT07 looks like a typical naked bike (angular) by all other manufacturers which is what you want when you’re buying your first motorcycle. Not bad, just not special at all. Triumph for me. I went with MT-07 2021 myself, however for any speculants in the future trying to make a decision, here's some things that really bother me:
    1. No slipper clutch, as explained in the video - it can get scary if you're pushing the bike and make aggressive downshifts, I come from a racing background and roll up to corners in high speed before downshifting and I've lost traction multiple times to the point I'm not comfortable pushing it to the limit anymore. I've considered either putting a slipper clutch on it for safety or changing bike for this alone.
    2. The quality.. while in a general sense it doesnt feel like a low quality bike, there's a few things that bother me. One is that there's a ton of plastics, the blinkers easily pop out when I put the cover on my bike but it's also saved them however when I slipped during a stoplight while it was raining and almost dropped the bike, it popped in rather than broke. The fuel tank is also of plastic and the center piece kind of easily gets scratched.
    The other thing is the gas wire (throttle body?), it's ENTIRELY exposed on the engine and doesn't even have a cover.. just feels wrong?
    And that's pretty much it.. I still love it but I often glance at CB650R for reasons above or swapping to supersport but I know myself and I may get too tempted to ride in traffic like I would on the track - the MT07 keeps me in check while still giving me a smile while riding to work.

    I absolutely agree ,.. the trident 660 might even be better motorcycle in terms of finishes ,.. softer ,.. softer and also very beautiful ,.. but if you prefer fun , joy , good reliability and economy ,..in this aspect the mt 07 is much better in my humble opinion ,..cheaper to own and buy and it offers much more than what you're expecting from this great little bike, it's more a matter of personal taste and what you want to feel riding on each one of them,.. I opted for the mt 07 model. 2020 and I think it's one of the best in its category,.. very light and agile and very powerful makes riding very fun and safe., but for those who want something different and better equipped, the trident 660 is also a good bike!

I've tested the MT07 and it was incredible, but also a little scary. I've done all my tests on a Z400 and a MT03, so the MT07, even when restricted to 47HP, has A LOT more punch, specially down low. Good Video! Its a very tough decision!, the Trident is cooler no doubt about that, but all my bikes have the transformer styling, I don't like round headlight bikes as a rule. I so want a triple too they sound so much better! arghh I still don't know. You make some good points about the MT but I don't accept the after market stuff there is a TON of Trident stuff already. But I do ride like a hooligan ( like you) so the MT suits that. ERMM I want the trident with the MT lights, someone make that happen!

      @@MatthewW713 I did! I financed a 21’ MT 07 just about 2 weeks ago. As only my 2nd motorcycle, I absolutely love it. Appreciable increase in power compared to my ktm 390 , I went with the Yamaha blue color and think it looks pretty sharp. It’s not so powerful though like a 600cc sport bike where it’s almost unusable unless you’re at the track. For me it’s the perfect choice for cruising around the city here in Phx yet can also handle longer trips too if I ever want to ride it up north. Let me know if you have any other questions, honestly I don’t think you can go wrong with this or the Trident. I just bought a Yamaha mt 07. I chose it over the triumph for three reasons. Looks, the Yamaha may look like something out of a star wars movie but at least it is not half modern and half retro. Electronic features, the Yamaha only has abs and does not have a bunch of electronics that I have no use for and only make it more complicated and possibly failure prone, ktm comes to mind. Country of manufacture, Thailand vs Japan. Oh yeah number four, it's a hoot to ride!

    Having owned a FZ-07 and a handful of Triumph triples I can understand why the Trident could be considered “boring” by comparison. I just wish that Japanese brands could get their fueling as perfect as Triumph does. I’m very likely going to buy the 2021 MT-07 (and definitely in that Yamaha blue) over the Trident because it is more fun and I prefer that torquey twin engine character. I currently own an SV650 and I still prefer the CP2 engine from Yamaha. OC!

      The Trident is proven reliable to, it’s just a destroked 675, which are know reliable, especially under heavy abuse. People track Daytonas and stack insane miles of hard riding on them. The MT07 looks to immature, the XSR700 looks way better. My biggest complaint of the CP2 Yamaha is the chassis is just not great. If they beef the chassis up and make say an SP model with inverted adjustable forks and a good rear shock I’d strongly consider an MT/XSR. The new MT09 has a pretty good chassis and suspension setup especially with the SP, Yamaha should give the MT the same treatment

    My brain says :

    Trident 660 : stylish , refined veteran, sports naked.
    Tracer 700 GT: honest sports tourer .
    Tenere 700: light adv .
    R7 : street capable supersport
    XSR 700: Hidden hooligan + very stylish.

    I have ridden both and definitely Triumph. Well MT-07 is great, it's punchy, it's jumpy, love to wheelie (which I can't yet, I would have been doing it when I was 18, but I didn't ride for 12year so I can't do it now) and it is really fun bike. But it's the only bike from Yamaha that remains on standard forks, not USD here and it's just wrong. The suspension is really good on Trident compared to MT-07. Then I hate that dash is on handlebars because it is too close to the body and it's hard to look forward and see it. Trident has awesome dash, even better with the BT module. Overal build quality and accessory options speaks for Trident, even-thought it can quickly become almost 2000USD (here in Czech Republic) more expensive than MT-07, but then you have quick shifter, frame protector, fly screen, bluetooth module, USB charger, tank pad .... well but it will probably never be such hooligan bike like MT-07 :). I would have hard time deciding if MT-07 would be maybe a same price like Trident but had at least better suspension and quick-shifter and maybe some basic TCS. Will be picking my new Trident hopefully next week :)
