There's a fix for the MT07 forks. The spacer is to long and the oil is to thin. Cut 10-15mm out of the spacer 15mm if your under 140lbs 10mm if over and put in some 20-30wt fork oil if over 200lbs 15wt if less. Credit to Dave Moss:)

As an older rider I'm no longer interested in choosing raucous over smooth. Odd that people are saying the Trident is more of a beginner or starter bike, when the far side of the bell curve showing age indicates that riders with the most years of experience are more likely to prefer the Trident. I'm not quite ready to get my motorcycle reviews from AARP, but I don't have a need to judge the value of a bike by its ability to wheelie.

Hello, I am an older rider also. My street riding started with a Yamaha R5. And you are spot on. Just because my 900 Eliminator made Santa Fe to Albuquerque in 27 minutes with my future wife as pillion ... fun memory but never again. Have a Trident in the garage --- my retirement bike. Got a nice 1976 Kaw 900 LTD for eye candy but that Triumph is great for my weight and abilities. 5'9" 162lbs. Fits perfect. Good luck.

@@Tondaloona03 you make it sound like you are comparing a ducati to a royal enfield. half of the things that they like about the MT are negatives on any other bike (snatchy throttle and crap suspension). to say that the MT07 is hands down a better bike is kinda stupid. not to mention the yamaha looks like a pupating larva, and the triumph looks amazing.

  • @Yoss223

I love my Trident, it's a bit harder to handle on low speed manuevers than mt07 - possibly due to firmer suspension on Triumph. Nonetheless it rips through corners lovely. The whine over 6k is just amazing, quickshifter adds to the experience, I love ripping it through the twisties. My only complaint is the same as Spite's - the cutout in the tank is just in the wrong place. I'm 6'0 and about 32 inch insem (european here so not sure if I did my math correctly). I could use higher pegs or simply different shape of the cutout. However once you ride it this doesn't bother you at all. The bike is amazing for beginners. Pulls from 2k RPM in the city like nothing, and the power curve is amazing. I would choose jt over the mt07 anytime. Michelin tires are awesome aswell. The mt07 is to snatchy on the throttle and Has wonky suspension. Still a lovely bike but I simply think the Trident wins in the category.

I've had my Trident 660 since May, and I have to be honest... You definitely have to get it past the break in. Once past the break-in, the whole mapping and throttle feel is a world of difference. It really does come into it's own! I hope this helps a little.

Love my Trident. I heavily considered the MT-07 in my shopping. I had to go with the Trident though, Brand new model, good looking retro styling, and the triple engine. I wanted to stand out from the crowd, I got the crystal white. I think it does everything pretty well. I don't think you can go wrong with either the MT-07, Trident, or SV650. I went the other way though and got the MT. I'll admit I was biased though, because I did my motorcycle training on MT07s, and I just loved them the moment I got on them.
Tried a kawasaki of the same engine size and hated it immediately...
It was just something about the light weight, instant torque that I got on with I think.

I agree the Triumph is the superior of the two in styling and is a much more refined motorcycle. I like both these bikes but I disagree with Yam and Spites statement that the Triumph isn't as "playful" as the Yamaha. We bought the MT07 because we got a super great deal but the Triumph was the better bang for the buck out of the two in my opinion because of all the standard equipment and electronics. The 660 is every bit as "fun" and "playful" as the MT07 and Yam and Spite are wrong on this one in my humble opinion.

Mt07 is def going to be my first choice for a bike however one thing to keep in mind. You guys knock the z650 and other bikes for being "boring" but like the mt07 because of reason that some starter riders to not go with (bad suspension and too snappy throttle). Maybe a bike like the z or triumph and other "boring" bikes may be better for starters because they are smoother to learn on. Gotta keep in mind guys. You guys have years and many bikes worth of experience while other creators may recommend a more boring starter bike because of learning and can then grow into an mt07 or a sport bike. Just food for thought

Alot of the complaints on the Trident are true.....DURING THE BREAK IN PERIOD.... I noticed the one you are using is still in that mode. I have one and once I hit that 1k km mark, the bike just opened up. No more weird "strain" on the RPMs like its holding itself back. At 1k km the RPM stopped flashing on the speedo and it felt like a completely different bike. It was like someone took the choke collar off. The whine was now there and lept through the RPMS making using the quickshifter a joy..... so please Yams...give it another shot AFTER the ( i think) 600 mile mark when the gauge stops flashing. Something unlocks in that machine and its a blast to ride now.

@@trextexting yeah it doesn't want to go past 5k because you aren't supposed to take it to super high revs during break in.
and you also aren't supposed to demand full power from it at any rpm.
so triumph puts in a second map that is active until the running in period is complete which puts a soft limit on RPMs and limits torque to 70 os so percent at all RPMs.
with the upside being that youir engine gets properly run in and will live quite a bit longer than if itr weren't properly run in.

Having ridden the ER6N, Z650, CB650R, MT07 during lessons & owning a SV650. I feel like if you've owned an ER6N for a prolonged amount of time, you probably feel like it might be lacking a little on the highway as well. It runs fairly high in the RPM's in sixth gear going 70mph. I think an upgrade to a gsxs750 would be a great idea, I've heard it's ergonomic & Steers very light. An upgrade to a 900cc would be good as well. Like a z900.
The ER6N and Z650 feel identical.
In comparison with the MT07, the ER6N feels underwhelming, a bit underpowered, suspension is better in corners though. Clutch pull is amazing on the ER6N, however I feel like the left foot gear pedal feels a bit weird, like it's a tad too far away.
I can't give my two cents on the triumph trident. However I can tell from the engine difference between CB650R & ER6N that an inline 4 will perform a lot better on stretches of highway, especially the vibrations.

Just bought mine last Thursday, it’s my first street legal bike. I grew up riding dirt bikes but haven’t really ridden in about 8 years. Long story short the bike is a perfect beginner bike, tons of fun with plenty of power but not enough to make you scared of your bike. The suspension is a little tough but it also depends on how much you weigh. I’m at 150-160 and it’s a tad firm but corners phenomenal, if you’re more around 200 then it’s going to be more smooth and gradual going in and out of dips or bumps. It’s definitely not an issue that makes me want something different tho. Hope that answers your question.

The pros of the trident, ABS, traction control, throttle by wire, the looks. The sound, TFT screen, 2 ride modes. it shifts perfectly, crisp..Bluetooth connectivity, $8200. the cons, the seat sucks, the engine produces a ton of heat. The mirrors suck, handlebars are tight.
