The Hornet is one of the most exciting bikes for the money I have ridden in a long time. The engine is superb and its chassis is lively. Just a shame it doesn't look quite as good as it rides
@@jackiechan5626 I thought that but the smaller tire certainly make it a whole lot more nimble. It’s a bike that handles better than it has any real right to

I've had an MT-07 (2020) for 3 years now, and I cannot fault it. It's great fun to ride, reliable, quick, nimble, and looks fantastic. I rode a Hornet over the weekend, and tomorrow I'll put a deposit down on one. It had everything the Yam had (apart from the looks), and then some. A weird looking headlight and funky colours won't make up for poor suspension, axial brakes and a right side up front fork. Also 70 bhp suddenly seems like a bit of a dud compared to the Hornet, GSX8S and also the Tuono 660 which has a comparable engine setup!
I've had a lot of Yamahas in my life, and only Yamahas in my garage currently. My buddy had a cb500r that was really pathetic on power, handled fine but it wasn't anything to write home about, and the engine characteristic was just bland, no revs, not a good sound. Honda's for the past few years have been in a weird place in the market, usually down on power, and steep on price compared to the competition, but this new Honda fills me with hope. Yamaha's had the corner for power and reliability, and of recently prices have been climbing astronomically. That Honda makes a GREAT noise, has the power numbers to back it up (and not by a small margin), you get reliability as Honda is known for, AND you get into it for less money. I like the looks of this MT07 more, but I'd prefer the performance of the Honda... I'm a 5'7" woman, so it'd probably fit me really well. And as for the tires, if the MT07 has better tires, then I guess I'd be switching to those on the second set for the Honda (or another comparable pair that plays well with the Hornet). I wonder if I could also take the rear-view-mirror stalks from the MT07 as well, then repaint parts of the Hornet... I'd love to see the lights from the Aprilia RS660 on the Hornet with the adaptive lighting for corners.

Curious to see if 10 years of making a Honda version of an MT07 is truly that much better. The MT will always have a special place in my heart regardless but can’t wait to try this bike too
I had a 2017 Model Mt-07 motorcycle. I've never used a new model Mt-07 before, but Although I've been using Hornet for 3 days, this Motorcycle is a complete crazy one. I couldn't stop as much as I went with Yamaha, it goes very fast with the help of the quickshifter with the Hornet and I can stop safely thanks to the power brakes. You should definitely test a Hornet. Then you will understand what I said. 😊
Always the highest quality reviews. I hope Honda does the equivalent of an XSR version of this Hornet. I think the bike is awesome but they borrowed the styling from an older CB1000R which makes it very dated or bland in my eyes.
Rode an MT-07 in Spain for a few days back in 2016 and as someone coming from sports bikes and Street Triples at the time, I remember it being pretty underwhelming in terms of power and also handling. The suspension felt soft and bouncy. The fueling was great though and throttle very forgiving at low speeds, it felt like an easy going lazy bike, but at the same time felt a bit cheap in terms of build quality. Interested in the new Hornet though, with its massive power advantage (27% more!) and it's cheaper! Not a fan of the looks personally - the beak looks too pointy.
I was looking for an upgrade from my mt03. And this wonderfully done video solved the problem. Always a pleasure to listen to Michael. Second bike of my life, Hornet !

A lot of reviewers came to the same conclusion but I didn’t believe until you confirmed it. New middle weight king. Wow! Competition is great for the consumer. A lot of good bikes out there.
Id say the Aprilia Tuono 660over both of them. To me it’s by far the best bike but I guess a different price range. I think it would have to be considered the King by every metric.
@@daytonasayswhat9333 The Tuono is a great bike as well. If money wasn’t a factor I’d probably agree with you. That being said, 90ish hp, Honda reliability, and finish….the hornet probably has the best bang for the buck🤷🏽♂️. Yamaha fan boy here just being honest

if the CB750 is .. then it’s only taken Honda 8 years to catch up , the MT-07 came out in 2015 and won bike of the year everywhere . So well done to Honda for finely catching up .. and Xtra well done to Yamaha for bringing out a brilliant bike in 2015 & ever since.
That engine in the Honda is what makes it so appealing with a nimble chassis, it’s a winner. Priced incredibly well but no doubt this will increase soon.
Not sure about the Yamaha's top end being "interesting" .... unless by interesting you mean "a bit lacking". They have great bottom end and mid range grunt but start to run out of breath fairly early ... very sweet in the 30 to 80mph range though. I enjoyed the one I owned for a year and a half or so. No doubt the Honda has it beaten very comprehensively though ... seems like a better bike all around and for less money too, could even spec the quickshifter on to it and it would still be cheaper than the MT, plus the Honda quickshifter is a proper two way job not just the up shifter thats offered as an option on the MT.
Why did Honda make a twin 750? What does it do better than the CB-750 four. What about smoorhness? My CB-350 was smooth (hard to remember) but my larger BSA 650 vibrated a whole lot. Since then only horizontal or v-twin for me.
The best part about the Hornet and the new Gixxus is that Yamaha is basically forced finally to update the MT. The ultimate winner here is us, the riders.
I own an 2022 MT-07 & never had a thought of regret it is super awesome & raw I enjoy it.👌🏽👍🏽👏🏽💯 Other brands like the Honda & Suzuki are trying to copy and add more for that I would upscale to a MT-09 & be even more happier.👌🏽👍🏽👏🏽💯
I was at lake vyrnwy at the weekend and someone on a hornet rode around and I must say it does sound good echoing off the water and through the trees...

I have a 06 919 hornet. I really want to ride the new hornet to see how it holds up compared to the old. The lack of the inline four does throw me off though
Pretty good analysis in my opinion. But, things considered, MT07 is basically a 10 year old bike that stills holding the position in there, but has been overtaken by the new/fresher Honda CB750. Electronics, new engine, dash, etc. The problem with the CB750, is that literally everyone (and myself), was waiting a 4 cylinder 600 (the true Honda Hornet) and we got that. Carries this feeling of "disappointment" I would say, that makes it not shine as it should. And the aesthetics, I would prefer the MT07 over the CB750, but that would be more a matter of personal taste. Very nice video, again!
That’s what I thought until I rode one last week, I’m never buying an inline 4 again! The hornets engines way better, sounds better and has instant low down power you don’t get with an inline 4. Honda made the right decision with the engine.
The new Hornet looks like an excellent bike. I was never a big fan of the MT-07 but then I prefer sportbikes. I'm still holding out hope that Honda will release a CBR750R but with the 650R out there (when you can actually find one), I may be holding my breath a while.
Hi guys, just want to note that the music was suddenly quite loud and overly bass sounding for a minute there at 13:28. Not very pleasant to my ears. Either my headphones are shot or you guys really messed something up with sound levels
13:28 you're tapping out the bass limits on my laptop with that background music. I'd buy the MT, it looks way better and seems more polished. Granted Yamaha has had more time with that bike. Even though the Hornet is a blast from the past, it's a new package. I'm sure future iterations will be better if they keep it going.
I've rented a Hornet for the weekend and besides two things I dont like (bars are not wide enough and the 160 rear wheel) I love the way she carries her weight. The 92 bhp are quite enough for the Twisties in the Black Forrest i'm riding. A lower , wider bars and she's basically a reliable 790 Duke :))
Good review, thanks, and well done Honda! One comment though, about the "fun" (and yes I know I am an unskilled old fart when riding) but poppin wheeles as a measure? Hmmm. So which bike is more fun if you prefer to be more safe (and legal) and keep both wheels on the ground? Also - no words about which would be better if indeed you would do a longer trip, say over 4 hours away? I know, that's for sure not what these bikes should be about, but still. Again, enjoyed the video, thank you!
Booking a test ride. If I can get on with it I'll buy it, else it's 2nd hand market and a bit more premium... But tbh I'd like a relatively hassle free 90ish hp bike that's good fun, so it likely will get a purchase
Which one would you Buy?
If buying new the honda. But realistically, a used mt07 is a much better bargain. I got my mt07 for less than 5k usd. 2019 model still with warranty.

CB500F
I actually like the looks of the hornet a lot but to be honest, I like the look of the CB500F also. Hope these hornets come to Australia!
Great video with lots of imperial detail which is much appreciated. Well done!
Brought my mt 2020 and I don’t think iv ever been out on it and not done a wheelie or 3 😂 😆Honda is peaking my interest tho as is gsx8s can’t wait for your review of that 😊 ❤❤ enjoy your channel 👌
Go ride the Hornet it’s awesome!
You've helped me make a choice my friend, thank you. Awesome video
Thank you for this interesting review, and it makes sense indeed... looking fwd to test ride the new Hornet sometime when it arrives here in South Africa!
the music starting around 13:35 has its volume too high and causes audio distortion, headphone users may your ears RIP...
Love your reviews. Thank you for doing what you do. Can't wait for the new Hornet to reach USA.
I love this video and this type of comparison, more videos like this! Thank you!
@@yassim0008 well, the comment was middleweight “king.” That’s more like the middleweight “prince” if it’s based on price, lol.
Yeah, I race the R7 professionally
if the CB750 is .. then it’s only taken Honda 8 years to catch up , the MT-07 came out in 2015
and won bike of the year everywhere .
Great comparison video, really like this format!
Yesssss … I literally just found out about the Hornet 750 today
Really nice Video. Waiting for the follow up comparison between the Suzuki GSX8S and the Honda CB750 😊
The Hornet wins by a longshot. Tires are a great "mod" to do, they're not expensive either.
i have a 2004 hornet and I LOVE IT !!! I"M NOT SOLD HONDA I"LL KEEP MINE FOREVER IF I CAN !!!! INLINE 4 ALL DAY !!!!
That would be reviewer talk for "it could be better." XD
Why did Honda make a twin 750? What does it do better than the CB-750 four. What about smoorhness? My CB-350 was smooth (hard to remember) but my larger BSA 650 vibrated a whole lot. Since then only horizontal or v-twin for me.
Great video
The best part about the Hornet and the new Gixxus is that Yamaha is basically forced finally to update the MT. The ultimate winner here is us, the riders.
Thank you for this detail comparison
We love the desk. Keep it in your comparison tests in the future.
Do you not consider the Tuono 660 to be in this class as well? Didnt hear you mention it as a competitor in the class.
Yeah it is simply absurd as it is by far the best in the class. Best tech, best equipment and most hp. Yeah it is expensive but it is undoubtedly the best in the class.
Excellent vid. I rode the Honda with Michelin Pilot 5s and it felt great.
I have an MT07 for 4 years now. Love it since day one. The Hornet looks like the next MT07. Hopefully Yamaha steps it up in the future and maybe I’ll sell my MT07 for that one. Good review!
Good honest review.
Hey man I used to watch your videos way way back in the day, probably one of the first OG channels on UA-cam. Happy to see you still at it and you haven't changed a bit😅. Very professional review as always. Cheers!
when your on the mood like in here,
I Love your beautiful smile and I enjoy
everything else, complete and informing as always.
I was waiting for the typical Honda leads then some how journalists still give the nod to the other bikes....especially a staple like the MT07. So I applaud the video and what appears to be a genuine head to head, ty
Nice honest review 👍
The king is and will always be Yamaha's TDM 850 and TRX 850 parallel twin.
I have a 06 919 hornet. I really want to ride the new hornet to see how it holds up compared to the old. The lack of the inline four does throw me off though
Why don't we get that bike stateside? They can't claim they wouldn't sell.
Looks go to the MT but sound goes to the Hornet. For my money, I think the hornet edges out the MT by quite a bit... but I wish it was prettier 😅
So exciting to have a true competitor in that market segment. Congrats hornet!
Great video. Would love to see this battle between the Hornet Vs. GSX8S.
Hello, very good analysis, next video, Honda Hornet vs Suzuki GSX 8S. In France a lot of bikers wait of your feed-back.
Great comparison, thanks. On paper I agree. Where would the Tuono 660 Factory sit?
Happy to hear that the new Hornet is actually good!
Will you make a Video on the GSX S8 and compare it to the Hornet?
Super solid reviewww
the hope is that Yamaha strike back with an updated MT-07 to rival or beat the Hornet... that is why competition is gud.
Am excited to see if Yamaha fire back and actually develop the mt-07 again
I want CB750 with DCT
The new Hornet looks like an excellent bike. I was never a big fan of the MT-07 but then I prefer sportbikes. I'm still holding out hope that Honda will release a CBR750R but with the 650R out there (when you can actually find one), I may be holding my breath a while.
650r is a sweet sweet 4 banger
It is a sportsbike.
@@chrisclark1761 no it's a naked bike. It lacks a full fairing and windshield that a sportbike has.
The best proper honest review period IMO ❤
Great to see Honda back - it has been a while!
Excellent review sir! This is perfect, and thank you. I'm working out and hoping the CB750 comes to the U.S.
Wow! This review is top notch!
Another excellent test from the ever impressive Mr Neeves.👍
Booking a test ride. If I can get on with it I'll buy it, else it's 2nd hand market and a bit more premium... But tbh I'd like a relatively hassle free 90ish hp bike that's good fun, so it likely will get a purchase
Great review. Now I just wish it would come to the US.
If they update the looks of the swing arm on the hornet i will go with that. But for now i just cant ignore how much better the mt looks
Yes !!! Thank you for the video
Not sure what the relevance of all the wheelies is except to flex your riding skills.
The intro with the paper thing had me giggling in the gym
