Hey Legend, I have an idea for a new series. "Legend's Losses" where you showcase some of the battles you've lost during your campaigns. You could play the original commentary but then chime in here and there about what you could have done different. Not all loses, just ones where you lost a close battle. One that comes to mind is the loss of Black Crag during one of your Thorrgrim campaigns (ran out of ammo). The Kholek campaign you almost lost. Losses to Grom a few times ect... I think this series would do great.
@@johnvalliant261 That's one of the best things about it: it needs little editing. Also, Legend gets some of his highest live numbers (outside of big releases) when he's having a rough campaign. Makes for compelling viewing.
For Thorek Ironbrow, one could argue that him having a rune of spite innately, frees up a rune of spite for someone else, which COULD then be argued to be a tiny buff for the faction, having another army with a Mortis engine…?
Dude lol omg that was the best intro I've ever heard you do, holy crap, that actually had me howling, my god what great testiclmonies! But yes, wonderful video, you actually do comedy really well sometimes its nice to see it shine through every once in a while :) Only noticed one thing with your ratings at the very end with belegar, I suppose not overly necessary but when you consider that the dwarves have some of their worst matchups at least before you got amazing armies, against greenskins and skaven, but belegar provides factionwide vanguard deployment for all armies in all underway battles. Its fairly easy to get decent intercept chance with him as I'm quite certain its coupled with his ambush defense chance which is particularly useful against skaven, especially clan eshin, I feel like that might have boosted the faction ranking by at least another .25 points or so, I mean its basically a hard counter against their two strongest opponents and just allows you to set your gun line on them before they can even assemble, especially if the underway fight has more than one army and you just nuke them with siege as they pop in from the zone wall. Thank you very much for the video!
Id really love to see a faction rating and not a lord rating. Faction rating lets you know what the easiest/hardest faction to play as is. Knowing who the best lord is will be less useful compared to that.
It's all very subjective due to differences in play styles. There are some obvious no brainers that swing for either the best (Skryre) or the worst (Nakai), but other than that, it's a wash. In general, they did a fairly good job at making each faction feel unique and good to play (excluding norsca and chaos, as they haven't been updated in ages).
Yeah lord rating is pointless, even when confederating them you go after who you can, not who is 'strongest'. Leaving out the faction buffs etc is when I started realizing Legend is just an autistic one trick pony cheesing hack.
@@damo9961 nah. He can play completely different army composition. I'd say he is playing most efficiently thus very repeatedly. Its for very specific crowd of people. But all of his plays work on all difficulties.
Legendary Lords are important in this game, the reason for that easily can be seen from the Vampire faction. Vlad von Carstein is one of the strongest Legendary Lords in the game that he can defeat 2-3 armies by himself in the late game. Legendary Lords can change the way you are playing this game. Your army might be the WORST army but with the help from Legendary Lord buffs, the WORST army becomes invincible on the battlefield. Also, the way the game represents slayers is kind of wrong. According to the Lore, the Slayers are the warriors who have the oath to die on the battlefield. Those dwarves are seeking their glories deaths, because of the lore Slayers must have the unbreakable trait so every single slayer soldier must be slain on the battlefield. The way they are running away is kind of hilarious. Ungrim also has that oath but he keeps that oath by sending slayers to their death.
Yeah, was also the reason why I played with his faction after watching Legends video about it and then I built a slayer stack just to realise that they patched it and slayers are fucking useless again. :(
@@langa77777 I don't know I only know that currently, when they get hit by artillery while above 75% health, the slayers still "die" - get distracted from model count and so on. (Granted, something similar also happened to me with dead Miners recently, so even without the ability, "dead dwarfs walking" are seemingly a thing). But that aside, it's similar for all "entities cannot die while ability is active" effects, for example Eltarions helmet - the affected units can still die to artillery or magic missiles. Edit: Iirc there's a bug report on the total war forums about the Helm of Yvresse that goes into some detail about this.

Didn't realize Belegar was so strong, as he had such a hard start when I've tried him (but I wasn't very good then it was before I worshipped the Cheese Lord🤣), I would have put Grombrindal as the best (didn,'t really play Thorek yet).
Yeah Belegars faction absolutly sucks. Mostly you have to quickly defeat the greenskins close by, then pack your stuff and head straight to the eight peaks and retake it. Not really funny and interesting. Thoreks campaign isn't bad, but my problem was that at the time I reached Karak Azgal, the fucking dwarfs (Thorgrim + Grombrindal) already conquered 80 % of the holds and were ranked 1 :/ Not to mention that Clan Eshin declared war on me together with the Lizards :(
Belegar not only has the strongest army but also weaker opponents near him earlier on. The problem starts to happen if that window of opportunity to strike is not taken in time. This is what needs to happen: Kill greenskins & scarsnic asap, and than makes sure Ikit claw is dead. Then peace with everyone around you and head strait for that bugman brewery owned by clan Spitle. From there prepare your crusade against grimgore and his lackeys. It should be smooth sailing from there. If you are not aggressive enough in the early part of the campaign, you will get stuck defending a hard to defend province until you have walls everywhere and make the game a boring grind. It is way more fun to be the aggressor when you know the AI does not have the armies to compete with yours.
@@axelmuller7946 Something to note is that controlling karak eight peaks gives +4 public order factionwide as belegar which is a pretty big deal for dwarves on higher difficulties.
Personally Grombrindal is my preferred LL to start a legendary campaign with. I always prioritize confederating Belegar for his character buffs and heroes, but playing his faction is awful. Grombrindal's -20% troop upkeep buff is god-tier in the early game, and makes an otherwise challenging start in legendary difficulty very manageable. I agree with Legend's list though, as this buff is faction-specific, so you don't gain as much confederating Grombrindal as you do with Belegar.
Fun fact about the Book of Grudges is. It would explode tremendously, if Dwarfs had the Internet. Since as far as I know, any Dwarf taking offense to anything. I think that it would be beneficial to have an "optimal confederation" section at the end, which would further distinguish each LL. Personally, I think Thorgrim is the best Dwarf LL because while Gromby has the Ancestor goodies, the improved commandments enable a distinctly more flexible and arguably more powerful management of your realm. Getting Gromby is pretty straightforward, Ungrim and Belegar tend to turtle long enough for you to rescue-confederate them, and Thorek isn't as valuable as either of the other 3 in terms of faction-wide buffs.

Leaving out campaign mechanics seems to be missing a large chunk of the content. I understand why you do it in the primary score, but would also be interested in how you weigh the campaign mechanics too.
didn't he already make a seperate video about campaign mechanics? at least for other factions already? I think it might just overcrowd the video a bit...having to constantly switch between a comparison of the lord and then in and out of their own faction...sounds a bit confusing on paper I'd rather have this video, where it's easy to understand what any LL can do in any of the campaigns and a seperate video...maybe in a faction comparison video it might be a good idea to mention if LL have specific synergy or stuff like that
How is Belegar the best Lord with his freaking insane starting position that gets overrun by Skaven and Orcs within the first 5 turns while Karak 8 is guarded by tier IV units (Black Orcs)?
ngl, when he started talking about Grumbrindal and the gameplay was him zoomed in on a squad of witch elves, when they get wrecked by flamethrowers what brutal af.
I wish you would rank the factions as well. Like its cool if Belegar is the best Dwarf LL, but this type of video is most helpful when you know which faction you want to start confederating all these bad boys under.
I think this kind of video is fine...because this is the basis..and it's accurate for all factions...so for any faction confederating a LL, this is what you get. a faction comparison should be done on its own, I think. with mentions of LL with synergies to campaign mechanics (if any)
I just dont get it ... why give slayers more melee attack when they already have a pretty high stat there ... Dear devs: Slayers only need one thing and one thing only to work: Sustainability, give them physical res, dodge ... ANYTHING! ... damn even a freaking tier zero savage orc trades one on one with a salyer
That's against their purpose lore-wise. Slayers are meant to die on the battlefield, they don't care about winning or losing they only care about death. They are good ambush shock units you would use them only for keeping the enemy in their place until the main army comes to wipe out the enemy army.
Funny thing about Grombi's armywide speed buff, it possibly makes him the best Mournfang cavalry commander in the game since he can get them to 100 speed
Thanks to Manscaped, I've been able to make my Throggsticles smoother than a high elf campaign! Now they are cleaner than Grom's freshly licked plate! Thanks Manscaped!
I'm glad my boy Belegar is getting the respect he deserves. He is my favorite Lord in all Total War Warhammer (tied with Alith Anar), and I love the race to Karak Eight Peaks. He is such a durable little pissant and the Ranger strats he can employ is awesome. For doing him the justice he deserves, I'm striking out several grudges in the book for you, Legend.
I think Belegar's campaign became pretty much the best in the dwarf faction. You are not just racing against Skarsnik but you have to watch out for the Carstein conquest as well.
I think it should be pointed out that +speed should also boost pivot speed of units which would be useful for a dwarven army settled into an in entrenched position. Also getting your thunderers out to rake along the front lines and other similar maneuvers. Its not some big obvious gain on dwarves but it should still add up.
@@fazalamin6379 Dwarf Lords aren't that amazing but you can view them kind of like an Ironbreaker; not great at damage dealing but is very tank and good at holding the line. Rune Lords are more useful once they get ranked up because of their magic but they're relatively squishy and again not good damage dealers. Most of the time it's better to go Runelord just for the utility if having rune magic, but once in a while you might want a Dwarf Lord just to tank and hold out against hordes of enemies while your ranged units fire in around him.
@@fazalamin6379 Yeah, i was just saying like in general, which ones i'd think would get the highest rating. but yeah, all in all a generic lord comparison would also be interesting
I think you should add another catagory when doing these lists...Fun factor for each lord. Dosent have to count towards the actual rating itself but maybe as a counterbalance as some weaker lords have good fun factor when using in game as a whole. Think this list is a fair rating for dawi but will still have to go in the book.
Grombrindal has that skill that gives +6% replenishment for all characters factionwide. It specifically says 'characters' so does it mean it only affects lords and heroes and not regular units?
Nah it affects the army, "all characters" means it doesn't work on garrisons. You can test it in a Grombi campaign, put a point into it and it gives his army more replenishment
It affects all units but Grombrindal has +6% replenishment while a regular lord has +15%++6% replenishment. Thus, in the end, the regular lord will have +21% replenishment. If a champion allows you to replenish +20% with Grombrindal's skill, he replenishes the army with +26%.
19:35 Maybe a Ranger/Bugman's stack could work with that? Have 1 organ gun with the stalk rune (sieges), 1-2 engineers (ammo, missile str, and speed), 1-2 thanes (with the ranger snipe skill & stalk themselves), and Grombrindal. I know Rangers are more Belegar's schtick, but ~45 + whatever the engineers grant (up to the animation cap) speed on a 160 range stalking & sniping missile unit that also has shields & regen might be able to pull off some shenanigans.
it's also very good for irondrakes, which struggle due to there low speed when you aren't being careful but with this speed you can set them on a flank and collapse the enemy frontline in seconds, your other ranged troops run defens for them, killing any cav trying to stop it, and you'll have there frontline collapsed very quickly
@@calebbarnhouse496 I've done this tactic successfully many times at the start of a Grombrindal campaign before his changes. 1-2 good volleys of flame tends to decimate & break a gobbos or boyz stack. Then I just slam their side since the flank is effectively mine now. If there's cavalry, I send the gyrocopter to harry them before they get to my frontline or drakes at the start of the battle. Need to try it again with the changes.
@@TheBoxGhost_tm i haven't gone that far into a grom campaign since the update, but it definitely works, I normally use the gyros to deal with ranged though, as inaccurate as they are I find them to lower grombys health way to much if your not getting plenty of heal time, but then use your ranged troops to screen the cav, using the blasting charges you got as a backup or as a way to punish the other flank, if you can use the high ground make a hole in your battle line and when the ai tries to go through it they are funneled into a chokepoint that is hilariously effective for you, particularly as they are slowed from going up hill, and thus you get more shots off before the first break, which then slows down the units behind it because they are fleeing through them
I think a good idea would be Legendary lord reviews. Specifically as a faction and what makes them unique. I like these videos that rate them as a tier list, but often when I go into a campaign I don't often think about playing as one faction and confederating the other legendary lords, so a more in depth review of each lord and their faction might be nice. Love the videos.
@LegendofTotalWar Why does Ungrim get a 3/10 for Faction power if he does nothing in that category? Is 3 the lowest rating you will ever give? I've seen you rate other lords similarly in the past. What would it take to get a 2, or a 1? Do they have to actually hurt the faction in some way?

We really need faction power comparison, it feels weird having the lord from the worst Dwarf faction be the number 1
Love this series VERY VERY keen to hear all the updated thoughts on the new dlcs thanks Legend !
How is Belegar the best Lord with his freaking insane starting position that gets overrun by Skaven and Orcs within the first 5 turns while Karak 8 is guarded by tier IV units (Black Orcs)?
This man's Manscaped promos are one of very few youtuber promos I never skip. Legendary.
Love your videos. One of the only you tubers I can binge watch both regular videos and the stream VODS
My god, I'm dying at Acey Kerr's testicalmonial.
Byrrnoth Gundadrakk needs to be a legenday lord. He has such cool lore.
How big is his beard.
Question : if we had a rune of spite on Thorek Ironbrow + his aptitude does it stacks ?
Anytime when Legend mentions that GROWTH is a huge PROBLEM for DWARFS i hear thanes gathering for a dwarfentide
literally just this morning was looking for dwarfs list. im glad the goat made one as i trust his opinion
ngl, when he started talking about Grumbrindal and the gameplay was him zoomed in on a squad of witch elves, when they get wrecked by flamethrowers what brutal af.
I wish you would rank the factions as well. Like its cool if Belegar is the best Dwarf LL, but this type of video is most helpful when you know which faction you want to start confederating all these bad boys under.
I think this kind of video is fine...because this is the basis..and it's accurate for all factions...so for any faction confederating a LL, this is what you get.
a faction comparison should be done on its own, I think. with mentions of LL with synergies to campaign mechanics (if any)
2:35 Ah, into the Dammaz Kron you go.
Best one yet!! Hilarious advertisement and spot on comparison. Keep up the great work!
Was seriously looking for this guide two days ago lol. I wanted to have a heavily modded campaign and sample the thunderbarge
Same
I just dont get it ... why give slayers more melee attack when they already have a pretty high stat there ...
@@myopinionbetter4287 Thats almost skaven level cheese :D
Legend getting more disgusted than elves at Nurgle with that long Manscaped Testiclemony
Thanks to Manscaped, I've been able to make my Throggsticles smoother than a high elf campaign! Now they are cleaner than Grom's freshly licked plate! Thanks Manscaped!
Perfect timing, was hoping you would do this with the new update. Thanks.
Tbh, advert intro was probably the best and funniest part of video.
That was one of the only adds I've watched the whole way through
Manscape sponsor on a dwarf video? Thats going in the book.
But only shaving your beard is grudging...
15:48 "Growth is a huge problem for Dwarfs" - LegendofTotalWar
Thought we wouldn't notice but we did
me: how many short jokes are you gonna say legend
legend: yes!
How many grudges you want?
Legend: YES
I think Belegar's campaign became pretty much the best in the dwarf faction. You are not just racing against Skarsnik but you have to watch out for the Carstein conquest as well.
I think the movementspeed from grombrindal is useful for the units he buffs like irondrakes to reposition
The gyro's are war machines. It is incredible useful for them. It think that Legend rated Grombis command power too low
Came for the manscaping ad, stayed for the short jokes. 9/10 video.
Loved the intro, had me laughing. Great video as always
Legend got an entire page of grudges dedicated to him now
So, 2 grudges.
i never feel so satisfices seen witch elf eating flame thrower at face
I love your perspectives on these!
I think it should be pointed out that +speed should also boost pivot speed of units which would be useful for a dwarven army settled into an in entrenched position. Also getting your thunderers out to rake along the front lines and other similar maneuvers. Its not some big obvious gain on dwarves but it should still add up.
Honestly that advertising had me laughing should keep this style going i enjoyed it
The manscaped ads are so good lol
Thanks for all your work Legend.
Thanks for the video Legend!!!
Bumping for the algorithm.
Props for using a Dwarf vs DE in the background while talking about Grommie
Maybe at the end, you could tell us about the Generic lords, I know it's LL comparison but that could be fun yeah
Life Slaans, Plague Grey Seers, and Supreme sorceresses are the best generic lords imo.
@@Quark214 Generic lords for which faction he's doing, like for this one only Dwarf generic lords
@@Assdafflabaff Thanks
@@fazalamin6379 Yeah, i was just saying like in general, which ones i'd think would get the highest rating. but yeah, all in all a generic lord comparison would also be interesting
I think you should add another catagory when doing these lists...Fun factor for each lord. Dosent have to count towards the actual rating itself but maybe as a counterbalance as some weaker lords have good fun factor when using in game as a whole. Think this list is a fair rating for dawi but will still have to go in the book.
I think this is a good idea
Grombrindal has that skill that gives +6% replenishment for all characters factionwide. It specifically says 'characters' so does it mean it only affects lords and heroes and not regular units?
EDIT: I was wrong.
High King is gonna need another book for all these new grudges...
*testiclemonys*
i just spat out my tea, thanks legend
11:46 Nice phase out with Thorgrim to dodge that strike.
I wonder at what point Manscaped would say "ok... I think we're going too far now"
Jeff, your manscape innuendos could be their own show.
THATS GOIN' STRAIGHT IN THE FUCKIN' BOOK
Been waiting for this video so long I won a dwarf legendary campaign (my first) thanks for your hilarious and useful content!!
finally... been waiting for this video
My man must have at least 8 new entries in the book, what the hell
@@TheBoxGhost_tm i haven't gone that far into a grom campaign since the update, but it definitely works, I normally use the gyros to deal with ranged though, as inaccurate as they are I find them to lower grombys health way to much if your not getting plenty of heal time, but then use your ranged troops to screen the cav, using the blasting charges you got as a backup or as a way to punish the other flank, if you can use the high ground make a hole in your battle line and when the ai tries to go through it they are funneled into a chokepoint that is hilariously effective for you, particularly as they are slowed from going up hill, and thus you get more shots off before the first break, which then slows down the units behind it because they are fleeing through them
Happy to see one of my favorite LL's at the top.
"Growth is a huge problem for Dwarves". Touché
5:14
How could you say that?? THIS IS GOING IN THE BOOK FOR SURE
Love the videos.
having my boi belegar claim the #1 spot made this vid a sweet little suprise
@LegendofTotalWar Why does Ungrim get a 3/10 for Faction power if he does nothing in that category? Is 3 the lowest rating you will ever give? I've seen you rate other lords similarly in the past. What would it take to get a 2, or a 1? Do they have to actually hurt the faction in some way?
Good question
Loved the reaction to the manscaped comments lol
