Thats a good method. I am still a rookie. I have trouble with the small ones near the tip. They drive me nuts.

I've made about 30 to 35 rods and initially I had trouble with the amount of thread tension I should put on the guide feet. I actually made one that you could spin the guide all the way around the rod under the threat. Believe me, that was way too loose. If you can't align the guides, you're wrapping too tight. Just back off a few clicks and you'll have it. On my best day I'm an amateur at rod building. Just back off a bit and you'll be fine. The most important thing is to just have fun and don't take this too seriously. After awhile it all just falls into place..

What bands do you use to secure, lets say a size 8 running guide? Or is there a package of varied size bands, and what brand? And how do you handle those guides to set them in place. Same issue with guide foot grinding? What do you use to secure the guide while prepping the ramp of the foot? I have shaky hands? Sucks gettin old! You’ve great videos!
I use micro guide bands and guide tubing, both available from mudhole in the supplies section. I use a small pair of needle nose pliers with tape wrapped around the teeth to hold guides without damaging them.

Hey man. The burner you use. I bought the one you sent the link for. Did yours come with butane already in it?? Mine is empty. If not what did you get to fill it with?
Yep, sorry. They don't ship them with fuel, that whole explosion thing. Any refuelable butane lighter fuel will work. I'm still on my bottle of fuel. That stuff is carried a lot of places and on Amazon.
Good afternoon, how much tension do you put on the thread wrap? I think i'am using to much tension i cant move the guide at all for adjustment.
Snug is tight enough. They just need to stay in place long enough to get the first coat of epoxy on. It's the combo of the thread and epoxy that give the guides strength, not the tension on the thread.
