I Used to Suck at the Trap and Roll

  • Most people at blue belt and above rely heavily on the elbow escape to escape the mount position. The majority only bump so they can make space, get to their side and perform the elbow escape. I used to suck at the bridge until I took my first seminar with Rickson Gracie. Some other details I picked up from Ryron Gracie on how to set it up properly and now it is my go to escape from the mount. The trap and roll puts you on top of the fight.Be on top if you can. Use the hip escape (shrimp crawl/elbow escape) to set up your trap and roll.

    When they stick their hand in my collar and settle to one side I have been having a lot of success with moving my head outside the posted arm which causes them to have to readjust and as they do the trap and roll is there easy.
