- Many give up on the bridge and roll technique also known as Upa in BJJ thinking that the technique is flawed. The truth is that many are just missing certain details. In this episode of BJJ with Matt Thornton you will learn the main details to look at in order for the bridge and roll technique to work.

sensei is out of breath lying down :'D! great tips, awesome explanations!
4 years doing bjj and never once I saw such details on a move that is constantly taken (and given) for granted.
Thank you 👌
It's so underrated but also the basic movement for so many other sweeps. Foundations that we (especially me as a white belt) don't perfect will bite us later with other moves/skills.
One of the best explanations I’ve seen for the Upa. Thank you 🙏🏼
He s a student of Chris haueter and atkins.......this is straight from their seminar. As a BB I teach my students this technique, but to grasp the technique fully is to pay attention to the details. Shoulders and back press into the floor and you engage your tailbone. You rotate your head at a 35 degree angle in the direction that your going to bridge. I'm able to off balance everyone ( blackbelts included) without even trapping the arms.....it's all in the connections.......it works beautifully and without any effort
I guess "tucking your tailbone" = posterior pelvic tilt aka flattening your low back?
I know this is the "clock upa" aka rickson gracie mount escape. this is my immediate go to whenever i get mounted. I find it works more efficiently for me when i put both my heels together to block their ankle.
This is so good. Thanks. Can’t wait to try it.
Super helpful, thanks!
The side shift👌 thank you.
Good explanation and details-
Thank you for this.
Great details.
2 stripe white belt, and this vid has really helped my success with the bridge and roll lately.
Mind blown! Seriously
This is the BEST technique to properly do this I've seen. Thank you. Subscribed and rang the bell for all notifications. Good stuff man.
Thanks.
My daughter weighs 140 pounds less than me…the leg tuck and shift weight did the trick for her thanks!
Matt sounds really out of breath. Hope he is okay.
tucking your tailbone - haven't though of that! Thanks!
Can you control your tailbone? If you can you got a tail
Can you show how to engage the feet?
Does "tuck your tailbone" mean to put it into the mat or more in the direction of my opponent? Really wanting to improve my mount escapes at this early stage
More in the direction of your oppponent. Imagine doing a crunch, but instead of lifting your abs, lift your ass. haha
Posterior pelvic tilt
...you go foot first *HHHHUUUUUEEEEEEEE!!!!*
My gym doesn’t cover a lot of the details.
Where do you train?

Please allow me to not disclose the name of my gym because I don’t want to damage their reputation; but it is a very famous one, every BJJ people know them.
There is an update of my study of the technique. So I asked a senior white belt who knows more to be my Uke, it took him like 5 minutes and then I learned a ton from him, I think I reached a level that I feel happy on this technique after he taught me. I spent a very long time in the gym, and the quality of him teaching me for 5 minutes beat all the time that I invested in the gym. Not just that, I find that feedback from certain white belts just help me improve so much more than taking class.
just do a baby bridge
skinny x, that's good
Great tutorial Darth Vader….
Baby bridge
Next time edit out the breathes. Sounds like someone on life support jesus
yeah sounds like me when I roll
