    I remember when Eric O. almost got burned on a crank sensor that didn't get pulled all the way to ground. Ivan had to remind him.
    I really love your channel. Watching you and Thomas EXOVCDS, I should be able to diagnose vw and audi confidently.

    Awesome video man! This is a great lesson on paying attention to full signal amplitude and not just the presence of a signal. It's very easy to miss something like this, but no match for PLD!

    Very unusual crank signal and wonder why it was only about 50% in amplitude.Great fix and job well done !!

    Hey Tommy, I don't know if you're still watching comments on this video but I just had a similar issue yesterday with a 2012 Jetta 2.5L. Vehicle would randomly stall at idle with no codes. Very intermittent. After two days of working on it to duplicate, I finally found the cam sensor was intermittently not pulling all the way to ground. Most of the time it was perfect. However, I found that it would sometimes only drop to 0.77v. If it stayed steady there and used that for it's low point it worked fine but every now and then it would drop to 0.77v then do a quick spike up to around 2v and right back back down to 0.2v. When that happened, I think the computer assumed the engine had rapidly changed RPM, the cam timing solenoid would stop cycling, and the engine would quit, likely due to the cam timing changing suddenly.
    I found I could wiggle the sensor around and sometimes get it to change it's low point but even that wasn't easily duplicated. Put a new cam sensor in and was no longer able to get the low point to jump up. I've seen a lot of these 2.5L complaints on the Internet about random stalling with no codes. Just thought I'd share.

      Nice! I had a 2.5 intermittent stalling years ago. It would not set any faults. I just started wiggling sensors and the harness. As soon as I touched the cam sensor it stalled. Replaced it. Haven’t seen it since then.

      @@PositiveLeadDiagnostics Thanks for the reply. Wish I'd have been so lucky. I could never make it stall by touching/moving the sensor but I was able to finally see it on the scope and just assumed it had to be the cause. Thanks again!

    Agree with some of the guys here. Could be easily overlooked. Maybe you should've showed us how it runs without the CKP. Nice video Tom.

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  7 років тому +1

      thanks for watching, I could have unplugged it, but I promise you it will run. technically this video shows it running without a ckp signal, because the signal the sensor was producing was implausible to the computer so the computer didn't know how to interpret it, maybe next time

      @@PositiveLeadDiagnostics I have same issue.. sensor sending out 2.5volts instead of full.. but, its a Passat 2005 B6, crank sensor basically inside gearbox... Sensor is new, pickup, seal, etc all replaced and new. We think it may be the harness shorted and sending implausible crank sensor signal to ECU. Ever come across this before?

    thanks video gotta do one of these. course u didn't show replacing it lol. FYI it wasn't strange as you yourself pointed out why it isn't being pulled to 0. u showed the connector is cracked, so almost certainly inside the connector (not the area looking in but where the wires come INTO the connector) is probably all corroded causing a slight resistance. if there is resistance you cant get to 0...

  • @EXOVCDS
    @EXOVCDS 7 років тому

    Looked like there was a bias voltage of about 2.5v when you had the ignition on. I'm gonna have to keep my eye out for that (to check for it).

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  7 років тому

      that 2.5 volts should not be there with the ckp sensor plugged in I honestly didn't notice that, your right, technically that was 2.5volts out of the 5v bias line that should get pulled to ground when the sensor is plugged in

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS 7 років тому

      Sorry... that was a "blond moment" on my part. Since it was plugged in, the signal was gonna be either high or low (depending on where the sensor tone wheel stopped). The bias voltage (signal integrity check by ECM) on the signal line would not be visible unless the sensor is unplugged.

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  7 років тому

      haha, that was a good observation though, it shouldn't be there! you are correct unplugged should be a 5v bias from the ecm

    Hi, i have problems with my passat CC 2013, the car runs good when it's cold but stalls once it warms up... and there is no chance to start ir normally again, after start it works only 1-2 sec, then stalls... After 2-3 hrs when the engine is cold, it stars normally again... The diagnosis didnt show any faults... There is possibility that i have the same problem with crank?

    Hi nice fix but why didn't you check the RPM signal from the scan tool ? And second I already ask you this before about where you work and you told me at a VW dealer but what I don't understand is why you are using a snap on tool ? Why not VAS 6150D

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  7 років тому

      thanks for watching, I didn't feel the need to, basically the faults stored and looking at the tach was enough in my opinion, rpm probably would have read 0 rpm during the extended crank, which then the computer uses the cmp sensor and we would have seen an rpm

It was towed in after we had done 6 plugs and 1 coil. Plugs are all fuel fouled and I have spark on all of them.
