This is a really really good video. It's very clear and informative, and tells me everything I need to troubleshoot my VW. Loads of clear information without useless time and babble, like so many other videos. Clear, concise, and to the point. Thank you so much!
Very interesting... didn't expect the engine to run with no crank signal. I've had a few 2.5 engines that stalled & would not restart due to a faulty crank sensor. They all would restart after having cooled down for a while. I have seen 1.8t engines that would continue to run when the crank sensor was disconnected and would even start with the sensor disconnected (not all 1.8t's would do that though). Possible difference in ECM software?
Nothing unusual. The value gets substituted from camshaft position sensor and finally it starts. Since there is no signal from the crankshaft sensor it continues to use the substituted value from th cam sensor. I have seem this on VW diesel (TDI and SDI) engines a lot. While on 2.5 CBTA CBUA that sensor might be easy to change, on a TDI most likely you will need to drop the transmission in order to R&R the sensor. That hex bolt is really stupid and stubborn :)
Thomas EXOVCDS I knew some VAG cars did that but it’s hard to remember witch one are doing it or not not long ago i got a 2.5 with long crank time but never as long it was the timing on the camshafts was off it had a cam and correlation fault.
Thank you for your answer. I checked it with à charged battery and no start. Il checked also a cam sensor and its curve was correct. Could it be the intake valve control sensor.i am struggling.
to diagnose a no start you substitute fuel by spraying starting fluid in to see if it is a fuel related problem. If it starts then you look at fuel related "stuff". If it doesn't then you look for spark. Also check for trouble codes.
Hi. I checked starting with starpilot. It did not. An d see some petrol on piston through plug holes. How to test the plug since engine is off. I will also check if the camps are Times ok through the plastics plugs. Thank you.
No I do not believe so. IIRC Customers concern was it dies and wont restart till cool. Its possible what you said was going on but it wasn't relayed to me.
quick question would a slight movement cause a timing issue ? i was reinstalling my belts and tensioners and i had pulled the bottom tensioner too far back and i slightly moved my crank, so i slightly moved it back to where it was last , car still runs great and no noise .
My 2009 jetta does this. Was told by a mechanic that it could be my fuel pump , got it fixed car still cranked and then turned off short after . Was then told it was my cars computer . Then finally a sensor marking this same code. Is it possible that all these issues I've got repair were necessary ? I also had the epc light on along with the crank.
My 2009 Jetta 2.5 started doing this couple days ago, I had it running then outta know where it turnt off and when I tried to turn it on it took long to crank could I need a crankshaft sensor?
I'm working on a 2004 jetta 1.8t and I replaced the crank sensor, when I got a p0321 code, with a Bosch sensor. Now it's giving a p0322 code and the epc and check engine light came on, with long cranking to start, saying it's the crank sensor again. Don't know what's the problem?
@@CoolAirVw thanks, I don't have an oscilloscope (home mechanic) lol, also when I had the p0321 code only the cel came on and not the epc light. When I replaced crank/speed sensor then I got the epc w/the cel p0322. Not sure if that matters much. Just more info. Also, what are the ohm values suppose to be for testing the crank sensor? Is it between pins 2&3? Thanks
I have that same issue with my 05.5 jetta replaced the crank sensor and still have the long cranks most times and no rpm then rpm could it be the actual sensor not sure if i put in a genuine vw part or after market one could that be the issue...I know on my nissan quest when I replaced cam and crank with aftermarket it ran ok until they got hot then they failed. I do need to check 5v reference also did not do that yet
@@CoolAirVw cool of course I dont have a scope so just out of curiosity what other things could cause that and could a multi meter or vcd help if not is there a cheap scope that could be purchased not a professional so would not be using it that much

Man super handy when you got a boss that comes with his own work index👌👌
thanks for watching. i hope you learned something.
Thank you. I will try your suggestion.
thanks for watching my video.
Great work!
Its nice to know folks appreciate what I'm doing. Thanks.

It's unusual because I have not seen that happen... only stalls & no-starts due to no crank signal.
Thomas EXOVCDS I knew some VAG cars did that but it’s hard to remember witch one are doing it or not not long ago i got a 2.5 with long crank time but never as long it was the timing on the camshafts was off it had a cam and correlation fault.
I'm gonna have to disconnect all crank sensors to see which one will start and then create a database.

Did the customer have the epc light on all as well as hard shifting occasionally?

timing being off slightly might make MPG loss.

I do not know. A "is it possible" question doesn't mean much. Anything is possible, but the scenario your suggesting isn't very likely.

Did you ever figure it out I’m having the same problem it turned off on my while I’m driving even
I don’t understand. So what was the issuers??? Can someone help me?? Is the crankshaft???
did you watch the video? It shows the fix.

"saying"????? put oscilliscope on cam and crank. Might be the chain tensioner worn, the cam advance giving problems or maybe the chain jumped a tooth.

Hi. Can a low batery cause a crank no start? Thank you.
Charge it up and see.

I prefer OEM sensor but no way to know if its your long crank problem without putting a scope on it. Other things can make long crank.

@@CoolAirVw gotcha fuel supply was on my mind also, 150,000 miles maybe time to look at that. Thanks
How do you undue that clip with the box On the side
Don tdd k o2 what you mean. Can you clarify?
Isn't this a knock sensor issue,
not a crank sensor?
No.
Ok
All righty then.
