Welcome to the world of Heavy Metal music. Where we sing about the real world and say the things no one else has the balls to sing about. It's not just screaming, it's deep AF.
Great reaction! When I was younger, I simply liked the song because it sounded cool. Now that I'm older, this song always hits me emotionally, in ways that it didn't when I was a kid. Thanks for posting.
One of the best songs ever made. One of the other best songs ever made by Metallica is Fade to Black . It's also very emotional and heavy. But it's real, it has saved me quite a few times.
The movie scenes and voiceovers (not of the band) from this video are from Johnny Got His Gun (1971). It's about a guy who lost everything in war, his limbs, his face. All he had left are his thoughts and memories from his childhood and the war.
It’s totally ok for you guys to have a deep reaction to this song/video, it’s a very heavy song and that was its purpose. I’m so glad that you have been introduced to Metallica and can appreciate a great song from an epic band🤘
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see people's reactions to Metallica songs. I could see the feelings and emotions I you're eyes while respectively listening to the song. Thank you
Holy crap!! I have been listening to this song for over 30 years now and never got that. Watching it now with that bit of kbowledge it is amazing what you can pick out. Like for instance seei g vlose ups of James and Jason headbanging which mirrors the movie part where you see the dude using his head to try and communicate by headbanging out SOS. Damn that makes this video even more powerdul!!
As an army veteran who had a good experience in the military but who knows many who didn't I can say that this song is one of the greatest songs ever written. The music alone, the transition from slow guitar intro to the ultimate in head banger s*** is unbelievable. Add the lyrics, so vividly expressing most every soldier's worst nightmare and something nobody talks-or seems to care-about. The video is great too but the song is phenomenal. Great reaction, subscribed.
You two have very sweet and tender hearts. No one would wish for their worst enemy to have no legs, no arms, be blind, be deaf etc. I can't imagine a more HORRIFIC situation. This is where merciful killing comes into play.
Seeing as I have listened to this aonf THOUSANDS of times since first hearing it at the tender age of 12 in 1992 (30 years ago? Damn i am getting old) I of course cant ever have rhe same feeling of hearing it dor that first time ever again. Luckily there is now youtube so I can now watch people hearing songs like one for the first time and seeing the reactuons is pretty damn close to when i first heard it so thank you 2, and all others for letting thise like myself relive that first time!!!
A lot people think that metal, superficially, is about screaming and aggression; and a lot of times it is. It’s a form of expression too. It’s an art of its own, AND it helps ppl who may be going through some things mentally. Metal is a healthy outlet FOR aggression, fear, sadness, depression, etc; and can turn it into a healthy step.
the silence after the last chorus from the movie says all. that song will never get unactual and never be not worthy shown. a statue for empathy and peace. you did recognize it, probs for first hearing. took me years to realize the meaning (not forreign speaker) all the best, you got it!
The man could not see, hear or talk, and had no arms or legs. He could only move his head, so he tapped out Morris Code asking for help to end it all. Sometimes dying in war is not the worst that can happen. Very powerful song.
It is a masterpiece. The timeframe looks like WW1, my grandfather was there, my grandmothers brother too… he was killed and is buried in Italy. My father in law was there at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. The horrors they saw, never talked about it and took it to their graves. There are worse things than death.
My friends and I were in our early teens and had the exact same reaction after seeing One's MTV debut way back when. We were utterly speechless, and we just sat in silence as each of us tried to mentally collect ourselves. Metallica had finally released a music video after years of refusal...and, boy, it absolutely made one (no pun intended) hell of an impression on our minds. It set the gold standard by which all other videos would be measured; One set the bar so high it was practically in orbit. Over the long years since that first viewing, I have still never tired of it 🤘
Seemed to me more taken with the story behind the song. The music written by Metallica for this song is perfect. Starts slow and works up to a fast angry emotion. They really take you for a ride and their skills on each of the instruments is world class. This song is also over 30 years old now and is still a 10/10. That's music.
How did that experience feel? The concerts were incredible never forget memories. You knew you were alive as you could feel the message of every song in this way.
Wow, well said, great review. This truly is the worst thing a person could ever go through. You can't even beg for death, you have no arms to touch, no legs to walk away, no eyes to see, you can't even tell if you're awake or dreaming. Just awful, terrible. War is a horror.
This was the first metallica song I ever heard, video world premiere. After that I was hooked. The only thing for me that tops the video is seeing them live in Seattle August 2017 for my 50th birthday. Love to see peoples reaction to this song. Great reaction!
I hope you guys react to more old school Metallica. I grew up in this era and old school Metallica is one of my favorites. Their first four albums are masterpieces in heavy metal music and lyrics.
They were untouchable in that time, musically & lyrically They were also bashed by many hardcore metal fans at the time, for making a videoclip, some folks saying they“sold out” because of this same video
War is hell and the greatest misunderstanding of what will be gained and what will be lost by all involved from top to bottom. some fight to stop it some to start it, i tried to stop it but i didnt know the endless nature of war. I cracked my skull open in the USArmy 3rd Infantry and i lost all my freinds to war.
The song is called ONE because there is One in a billion chance that a soldier would step on a land mine and lose his arms, legs, speech, hearing, and sight and still live on. But out of all those Billion there still leaves the ONE
You need to see this movie Johnny Got His Gun, released in 1971. You will appreciate this song even more. Here is the link to the free movie on UA-cam. ua-cam.com/video/uUfBVLAY_pU/v-deo.html I read the book in High School and saw the movie soon after. So when the song was released I knew right away what the song was about. The only thing they changed was in the song it's a land mine, but in the book and movie, he was hit by a mortar. I would like to see you react to an artist who is a genre blender, he can rap as well as he can sing, the band is called "Falling in Reverse" and the song is about mental health, it's called "Popular Monster". The song was ranked number 4 in late 2019 on the US Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and number 1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart and as of 2021 has over 100 million streams on Spotify. The first question you'll ask is, what genre is this, it's Ronnie Radke's own genre. You won't have to worry about any copyright problems, Ronnie loves the reactions. If you're lucky Ronnie, the vocalist of "Falling in Reverse" will react to your reaction, putting you in a larger spotlight. Believe me, you will want to hear more from this band. This video is like a short movie, here's the link. ua-cam.com/video/jakpo7tj7Qw/v-deo.html
Are you guys familiar with the story of Jason Becker? He was a phenom guitarist in the 80s who lost his ability to play. It's an amazing story of a guy who who lost basically all function. but he perseveres. Great reaction! Love from California.
If you haven’t done any more Metallica, please do: Fade to Black, Master of Puppets, Outlaw Torn, or Bleeding Me. Guns N Roses would be a good group to listen to: Civil War, Sweet Child O Mine, Don’t Cry, November Rain, Estranged, etc.
This song is often mistakenly referred to as an anti-war song, but the writer has made it clear that was not the case nor his intention. But it is certainly an admonition to be fully conscious of the cost associated with war and that such a decision must be made with this cost in mind. And as dark as the suffering portrayed in this story, there are even greater evils that can be suffered and require the willingness to go to war to prevent. But don't allow that reality to cause despair, because there is also, and to a far greater degree, hope on the world to experience wonder and awe and great joy. This song points to the cost incurred to protect our freedom to live in such a time as this, so let us be reminded the cost, should we allow those freedoms to be eroded.
let me be honest... black people discovering metal is so wholesome... considering black genius created the blues, jazz and rock and roll... we are all one...
I think the best way to describe the soldier's condition is.. He IS dead, but his soul is trapped in his body because of the life support systems the doctors put him on.
His father expected him to live and die for freedom to own one's self and one's property, but his son came back with no arms, no legs, no eyes, no nose, no mouth, no ears & no face. He had to make his own son into a carnival atraction to cover the cost of keeping him alive. War is hell and it's a hell that spreads far beyond the battlefield.
Keep Clam? Selfish lover or just bought cheap merch? Metallica are a godsend...I saw them live in the last gig b4 Cliff died, best bass guitarist ever! RIP
Of all the reactions I've seen for Metallicas One vid, by far this reaction has been the most emotional I've seen from someone. You guys should really check out Five Finger Death Punch Wrong Side of Heaven 🙏✌🤘😎🤘
Metallica took the opportunity to take a in poignant book called "Johnny Got His Gun" and created this song inspired by the tale, masterfully edited to a film adapted from the same tale. Metal music is a very very diverse style of music, less of a style and more of an approach to music. It's greatest glory is exploring things that are difficult to speak about or rarely explored. Sometime very dark or personal subjects, all bolstered by the motif of the music. This song though, is a special case, no doubt why it was recommended.
Speechless. Perfect reaction. But you know, the rest of Metallica isn't all so stark and serious - a lot of it is also really fun, so don't be discouraged about checking out other Metallica. This is a dark one to start off with!
Hi reactors 👍 this melodi is damn hard to take in ):. I think the message to ONE. Is think before you walk to a war situation (:(:(: a much better and positive song by METALICA " Nothing el's metters ". THX for a good reaction i react same as you 2 👍🇸🇪👍
I read chapter 10 for extra credit in English class. I never realized how valid those words were till a couple years later when we declared war against Iraq.
Hello guys I'm glad you reacted to some Metallica in my opinion the best metal band ever. Thanx for the reaction I want to recommend another one of their songs called Nothing Else Matters. ❤
Welcome to the world of Heavy Metal music. Where we sing about the real world and say the things no one else has the balls to sing about.
It's not just screaming, it's deep AF.
Amén!
Yes!!! 🤘😝🤘
If you listen to the lyrics, heavy metal music has some of the best story telling in the world
@@onemangang2010 I really love Nightwish - Weak Fantasy.. its just so fucking true
Unless the real world is having a good day, then we sing about dragons and zombies and shit. 😉
@@lordtrigon1733 HELL YEAH FUCKING LOVE POWER METAL!!
Great reaction! When I was younger, I simply liked the song because it sounded cool. Now that I'm older, this song always hits me emotionally, in ways that it didn't when I was a kid. Thanks for posting.
Same here my friend ;)
yea I'm half teared up just watching his react. Never hit me like that when I was a kid. I understood it, intellectually. But not experientially.
Same here bro! I'm 23 now and just when I was 21 I started realising what the song is about and just like you, it hits me hard!
soooo true
Same with Fade to Black!
One of the best songs ever made. One of the other best songs ever made by Metallica is Fade to Black . It's also very emotional and heavy. But it's real, it has saved me quite a few times.

That was a very raw reaction. I loved it! Yes this song is very deep. Metallica is good at that.
Songs like these are why I love metal music.
I love melodic thrash solos best kind of thrash solo
ONE of the best songs ever written!
Every man face his death by himself.. Alone "Goodbye father" .. These lines break me to tears each times. Tx for the react 🖐️
Some trivia: The band is filmed mainly showing their limbs and faces, to remind the viewer in a subtle way of what the character has lost
I’m a fan and didn’t realize this. Nice job!
Holy crap!! I have been listening to this song for over 30 years now and never got that. Watching it now with that bit of kbowledge it is amazing what you can pick out. This song really makes you think and appreciate life a little better.
The movie clip is from "Johnny got his Gun" 1971.
I LOVE watching people react to this song. That’s how I felt this first time I heard it when it was released.

*A prisoner in their own mind.*
Damn, how can you NOT bop ur head to this!?

I’m seriously not trying to be ‘that guy’ but just FYI it’s Morse Code rather than Morris. I had to chuckle at that. 😁
And that is the Power of Metal🤘
Its a beautiful way of explaining something tragic. It is a masterpiece.
Exactly my reaction the first time I saw this. Thanks for your very authentic reaction, this is great.
It is a masterpiece. The timeframe looks like WW1, my grandfather was there, my grandmothers brother too… he was killed and is buried in Italy. True story aswell, depicted through music and REAL words.

It's so great to see people that have never listen some music light up and feel something we are all the same
How did that experience feel? The concerts were incredible never forget memories. You knew you were alive as you could feel the message of every song in this way.
You two are amazing! Real, emotional and perceptive. Please keep doing what you're doing! 🙏
I have loved this song since my early childhood when it came out in the late 80’s because of my older sister

I love watching black youth going thru the music I grew up on, and feelin it just like I did. It's my new favorite pastime. Great react.
This is the first comment video about "one" that actually got the point of the video and debated it properly!
They were untouchable in that time, musically & lyrically
They were also bashed by many hardcore metal fans at the time, for making a videoclip, some folks saying they“sold out” because of this same video
And Jason said it best "Yep. We sold out. Every seat to every show." 😂
War is hell and the greatest misunderstanding of what will be gained and what will be lost by all involved from top to bottom. some fight to stop it some to start it, i tried to stop it but i didnt know the endless nature of war. I wish I could hear all the metal and grunge epics for the first time again. Even though they still have the same impact.
You really described how James Hetfield and company would have wanted it to be. Nice reaction
Now you have to react to Fade to black also by Metallica
Great reaction got my sub
The movie was from the book Johnny Got His Gun about WW1. One of three books banned during WW2. The other two were enemy propaganda.

For all the people that thinks metal music Is only loud noise
My friend, I really think you would like Megadeth- Holy wars the punishment due. It's another powerful song
Never would give my only begotten son for the war efforts
Seems like the one between two is more emotional because it is more likely to happen to him
