Hey guys I’m noticing a lot of comments about pausing. Bands/ artists as big as Metallica have very strict copyright issues. I mention it in the video multiple times why I’m pausing. Please keep in mind this is a reaction channel also. If you are unhappy with pausing, please go check out the original video. This was a fun one to do and hope to get more Metallica in soon!! Much love, Cliff
Anything attached to UMG is going to need lots of pausing to simply not get blocked in all countries. I don't care if you pause allot. It's good to go back a little when you do pause. Some songs, if you pause enough you won't even get a copyright claim. But if you're not worried about the copyright claims, I think you'll find that you have more freedom in the metal /rock side of reactions. Metallica and Nightwish reactions seem to do fairly well, whether you pause or not. But, just do you. :)
Yah I posted this story on another reactor's channel a while ago. I was 15 when this song came out and I had just recently discovered Metallica from Master of Puppets. I was too young at that time to go to one of their shows, and there was no interenet - I had no idea what they looked like. When MTV announced their first video would be World Premiere at 3PM the next day, I rode my bike home from school that day as fast as I could to get to see it. I rushed in to my room and turned on the TV to watch it just in time - I was so excited like a kid in a candy store. Then as the video progressed, my glee got darker and darker and by the end I was speechless and horrified. It was like getting smacked over and over again and gone was all my excitement to see them. That's how much that video moved me. A few years later, I saw them live on their Black Album Tour, and they showed a video clip of Lars saying he loved making that video and he loved how people just stood in shock not knowing what to say. That was me.
His dad didn’t actually travel around with him. It was just one of the many nightmarish thoughts he had after being injured ... about feeling like a freak in a carnival show , and he had a vision of his dad travelling around and displaying him for people to stare at.
Tim is 100% right. The general was asking the minister/chaplain if he had words that could comfort the soldier - some words to say - and he just reminded the general that it was them who made this horror, not word of God. He wasn't being smug, as much as he was diverting the blame to the right profession.
When I was 4 yrs old I got Guillain-Barre Syndrome, your immune system attacks your nervous system instead of the virus/bacteria that it's supposed to be fighting. I was paralyzed from head to toe for 3 months in ICU. All I could do is move my eyes. I was on a ventilator because my diaphragm was paralyzed and I couldn't breathe by myself. I couldn't swallow so I had a stomach tube that hung out of my side and attached to an IV stand. They poured liquefied food into to feed me. Spent several weeks in a regular hospital room before they let me go home. I had to learn how to crawl, walk, my abc's, numbers, etc all over again. It was like being an infant at 5 yrs old (I went in hospital at 4 and came home after my 5th b-day). It is very frustrating not being able to communicate. I would cry when something hurt and the nurses would just go around my body looking for something being wrong. Eventually they all got on board with asking me questions and I would blink for yes and no. Took 9 hrs one day for them to figure out that my arm was hurting because it had fallen off the pillow on to the bed, plus it was hot being between my body and the pillow! That was the day they started with a system vs everybody just doing their thing. #ArmyOfDarkness
I’m so sorry that happened to you. I hope you’re better now. If it had to happen, I suppose it’s better for it to happen when you’re a small child than when you’re older. Then again, when you’re so young like that and unable to understand why it’s happening to you, maybe that would make it worse. I don’t know. Terrifying either way and I’m truly sorry for you.
The overall song is based off of a story of a World War 1 veteran who was hit by land mine and was trapped in his body couldn’t speak, see, or hear as the lyrics say “left me with life in hell” and all he wanted was to die
"He's a product of your profession, not mine." The guy who said that was a chaplain. So he's saying that a servant of God has no say in how this young man should meet his end, due to the fact that he was shaped into becoming an instrument of war, prior to his current condition.
your reactions are so versatile! 😊 one of my favorite bands! When this song was released, it hit me really hard. I'm still getting goosebumps whenever I listen to this song.
This is Metallica's first music video. They became aware of the movie Johnny Goes to War in 1971, searched for their song and were inspired by the film for the song. To show how ugly the war is. Especially how veterans in the Vietnam war were treated and treated. They were all seen by the government as victims of a senseless war.
I've watched a at least a dozen reactions to this video. Props to you for actually trying to pay attention to the video and the music. You're the only one i have seen to notice the dad was doing the carnival show (In a dream).
The flash shots are from the movie Johnny Got His Gun, where a kid goes off to the war and returns in, what the doctors think is a vegetative state after stepping on a mine, but the kid's brain is still function.
He was blown apart in a fox hole in france ww1. Theres fuck all left of him left. His eyes, hearing, speech, arms and legs are gone, he's literally stuck talking to himself in his head and imagining scenarios like talking to his father.
All the Medical Officers, including the one who deciphers the morse code are wearing Pinks and Greens with Sam Browne Belts. So these scenes play out in at least the 1920s. Dayum.
"For democracy, any man would give his only begotten son". I hope I have to sacrifice my own life instead of my son's. But freedom is non negotiable. ALWAYS.
Not sure about the movie but in the novel the traveling circus attraction was the armless, legless guy’s own daydream about some sort of purpose he could serve by continuing to exist. Tragic existence having no senses besides touch, and no limbs or mouth…
The film is Johnny got his gun where he went off to war and lost his arms legs eyes and the ability to speak except Morris code where he says kill me over and over,
I had a very similar experience to this from a car accident 40 years ago tomorrow. I broke my neck in the car accident. Woke up with a respirator in my throat so was unable to speak, could only see straight up since my neck was immobilized in place, couldn't feel anything below mid chest and couldn't move my legs, my hands were tied down to prevent me from pulling the tubes out. I was in intensive care so was alone on the room or with strangers in the room most of the time. This song brings me back, so crazy to think I have been here 40 years since it happened. Luckily I was able to recover use of my arms and hands, my legs are paralyzed though. In a wheelchair for 40 years. Finished school went to college had a wife and step children so did OK but man I can relate to this song. I remember screaming in my mind for God to help me. Then feeling lost with no response.
I am 100% a metal head Metallica is #1 for me! i have seen them 6 times right at the stage! The movie that they filmed in Edmonton was a killer show!! but 100% an Em fan!
I see a few people already told you that the movie footage is from a movie called Johnny Got His Gun. Metallica bought the rights to the movie, so they could use the clips in the video. The full movie is available, here on UA-cam, for free, It's 4 hours or so if I remember right. I was the same as you though. I grew up listening to this song, but i never REALLY listened to it. When I actually sat down, and really heard the lyrics, I couldn't stop crying thinking of that poor guy. No way in hell would I want to live like that.
Great reaction! This video gives me chills every time. I don't even want to imagine it: no arms, no legs, not being able to speak, hear and see... Completely alone in your own head. By the way: Metallica bought the rights to the film in order to not not pay royalty fees anymore. I think you'll like the lyrics of Master of Puppets.
Hey man, pause when you want... This is your show.. One of my favorite Metallica songs. How the story ends in my mind is he lays there with his own thoughts until he goes insane. Behold the living dead.
The music video footage was from the 1971 movie "Johnny Got His Gun" and it's about a man who was in war and got struck by a landmine which blows up his whole bodies to the point where he can't see, hear, no arms/legs, just like he said "I'm like a piece of meat that keeps on living". And the only way out for him is to die, but the people just kept him there till he died. S.O.S. Help Me is the morse code.
Imagine living as a young adult, and you get sent to fight in a war. Now imagine that in this war, you hit a landmine. As a result, you loose your sight, your speech, your hearing, your arms, your legs, making you loose your soul. This song was made because of, the 1971 anti-war film Johnny Got His Gun.

I had this on CASSETTE!! Back when I first got into Metallica, around the time I met my first wife, and I've been married to my second for 21 years... Making me feel old... Portraying someone who lost everything BUT his life in the war... Sad story, but AWESOME song!! Great reaction!!
Thanks boss! I wasn’t sure but after watching a few times I figured it out. Very dope concept and amazing song. Appreciate you leaving a comment and filling me in 👊 🤘
This song is based on the book and the movie Johnny Got His Gun. Well worth seeing or reading. It was banned in the US for many years because of it's anti war message.
I know it's not your wheelhouse. I've been following your channel due to Tom MacDonald, but I'm a lifeline headbanger. I grew up on Metallica. I would love to see you take a chance with a few other since you're a lyrical guy, you'd like the lyrics this band and a few other metal bands have. Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth are all great metal bands all with great lyrics.
Music should speak to your mind and your feelings. If it doesn't make you feel something when you listen, then think about it when it's done, is it really speaking to you? Pause as you see fit, thoughts are a big part of new music.
LANDMINE! Landmine, dude. You missed the lyric because of pausing so much. He didn't "Go off to war, and then come back" He never came back, bro. He's in a military hospital. And it's nothing related to modern war or modern opinions. It's from a movie, all the 'clips' are from a single movie, and the movie is about the time of WW1, so early af.
Can't believe that you have never heard of this classic. If you are gonna go down this road then I suggest that you check out AC/DC live in Moscow 1991 where they performed in front of a crowd of 1.6 million screaming fans in one venue.
If you enjoyed that can you do SOUND OF SILENCE cover by DISTURBED the music video and not the live one. And also can you do the song PRAYER cover by MARCELITO POMOY on wishbus and also his CONTE PARTIRO on Americas Got Talent please 🙏. I know youre not into this kind of music but I know youll love it. Thanks.
I know that you are primarily a hip hop based channel. But for great lyrics, I would like to humbly suggest. Would you care to listen to some Pink Floyd? Preferably one of the following - Comfortably Numb, Time, High Hopes, Pigs (Three Different Ones), Echoes. There is a lot of beautiful lyrics in their songs. I consider PF nothing but a straight Art Rock.
You said rock/metal songs don’t usually have any meaning behind them?!?!?!!?!!?!! Next you’ll say that Country doesn’t speak to loss and heartbreak!!! I get it, you’re into hip hop. But a genre more focused on money, drugs and “ hoes and bitches”, is FAR away from speaking on anything close to meaningful. I too listened to hip hop from just before NWA up to around the 3rd Snoop album. It was far from touching on serious subjects at the rate rock, metal, grunge, trash, and country were working on at the time. You need to get your dad to help you out on this…a lot!! I would recommend listening to Pink Floyd’s Dark side of the moon and the Wall. Those were concept albums and each focused on specific topics. The first was the pace of modern life (1972-1973ish when written) and how it wears people down and makes any type of real personal connection next to impossible. The second album, a two disc set, is focused on lots of the same themes as well as parental issues, loss, emotional disconnect from the world, and wanting to build a “wall” to protect yourself and your heart from the pain, only to come to the realization that you need to tear the wall down to feel anything and really live. That’s just two album. Trust me, hip hop is not even in the same hemisphere as rock or country music, even being in the same neighborhood is a long long long way off, along with a lot of maturity that’s lacking. If it were to happen overnight, the fan base would instantly start saying they were all trying to act “white”. Wanting to tell me I’m wrong? Try, but come with information to support your argument!
Nope! I’m working on it! I’m still being communicative but also starting to take time for myself when needed. Something I’ll slowly learn to do. I’ve do more reactions in a couple months than most do in a year. And tons more coming. By the end of the year maybe 2k videos 🙏❤️

Just Quick history ( Cliff )... Kirk Hammet is half Filipino.
This song gives me chills, Every Single Time! 🤘🏼
I had this on CASSETTE!! Back when I first got into Metallica, around the time I met my first wife, and I've been married to my second for 21 years... Making me feel old... Portraying someone who lost everything BUT his life in the war... Sad story, but AWESOME song!! Great reaction!!
The dad thing you are wondering about is a dream sequence.
Thanks boss! I wasn’t sure but after watching a few times I figured it out. Very dope concept and amazing song. Appreciate you leaving a comment and filling me in 👊 🤘
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘Metallica 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 next is Master of puppets and seek and destroy
Seen them 4 times live already and always a blast
This song is based on the book and the movie Johnny Got His Gun. Well worth seeing or reading. It was banned in the US for many years because of it's anti war message.
I know it's not your wheelhouse. I've been following your channel due to Tom MacDonald, but I'm a lifeline headbanger. I grew up on Metallica. I would love to see you take a chance with a few other since you're a lyrical guy, you'd like the lyrics this band and a few other metal bands have.
Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth are all great metal bands all with great lyrics.
Oh avenged sevenfold was my shit throughout high school. I’ll definitely be jumping all over the place 🙏
Music should speak to your mind and your feelings. If it doesn't make you feel something when you listen, then think about it when it's done, is it really speaking to you? Pause as you see fit, thoughts are a big part of new music.
Comment keeps coming
War is never truly over.
Sit down and have a talk about the story line. It’s a true story and a crazy ass one.
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻Good stuff more metal🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻HOG
Metallica is definitely #1 for metal just like Em is for rap
Fave Metallica song 🤘
My favorite band of all time🤘😈🤘
Your dads a Metallica fan? And your name is Cliff?
Nah that ain't got anything to do with it at all
Oh I used to listen to Metallica because of my brother
Serious talent 🤘🤘🤘🤘
One of their hits, was hooked on their music then. My first time to see this film in their music video.
You should react to some Megadeth, like Holy Wars, or Peace Sells
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘😘😘😘😘😘
I can really recommend Johnny got his gun. It's a dark and horrible movie but a great one
Metal lyrics are the deepest things you will ever hear.
Can you please react to elaine duran cover of "weak" and "because you loved me"
Wishing you good!! Love you cliff. 👌💕💕
Thank you Hannah!! I’ll add them to my list and try to get the done ASAP. ❤️ 🙏

I like seeing people used to other Genres get into rock.
80s Metallica is the only Metallica.
The bigger your Army... The longer the request list... Soon there will no sleep 😴😴 for Cliff.
Nope! I’m working on it! I’m still being communicative but also starting to take time for myself when needed. Something I’ll slowly learn to do. I’ve do more reactions in a couple months than most do in a year. And tons more coming. By the end of the year maybe 2k videos 🙏❤️
@@CliffBeatsOfficial just always remember family and life come first.... The Army will always wait for you.
Wow! Metallica!!! I love Metallica! Kirk Hammet mum is a Filipino ✌️

Curiosity but what is a industry ghostwriter?
I write music/songs for artists in the music industry without taking credit/ off the record. I will be explaining more in the future boss.
Ohh ok I've never heard of that before
