I use ASC specific 6mm ARC mags and to date have never had a problem with them feeding any cartridges. TO date we have used all the factory loads through them (103 ELD-X Precision Hunter, 105 Black BTHP, 106 TAP M/LE ammo, & 108 ELD-M Match). We have also used 90, 95, and 100 grain Hornady SST's and Berger Classic Hunter bullets in handloads without any feeding issues. We run our 16" and 18" 6mm ARC's suppressed 100% of the time. All with SLR adjustable gas blocks due to the suppressor. Again, no issues whatsoever. These are mostly hunting rifles that we have used to kill feral hogs and coyotes. They hammer hogs with that 103 grain ELD-X! I have about 1000 total rounds through these rifles now and they run without any issues. Now, I do clean my rifles more than most. The suppressors make this rifle a filthy mess in one days range shooting. Just something that may have contributed to why we are not seeing any issues. All in all, this rifle caliber has proven to us that it is a winner on all fronts. Super flat shooting, super lightweight (Proof Research Carbon wrapped barrels) and they hit like sledge hammers on game animals. Only downside is that no other ammo manufacturer's seem to want anything to do with making ammo for it. We are combatting this with reloading our once used factory brass.
I appreciate your input here. You are the second person to say that the SLR adjustable block does not clog up the tube, which apparently isn’t the case for other adjustable blocks. Was/is gas tube cleaning part of your maintenance process?
@@sunandshadow_llc So far, I have not had to clean the gas tube. Not saying with more rounds that won't be the case. Just hasn't proven to be an issue yet.
I built an upper. And I think it's pretty great. It feels the same as a 5.56mm rifle and you get about 400-500 ft-lbs more energy with the muzzle with better range. Mag reliability and mechanical robustness are all as advertised. As a reloader, it's also a much better cartridge because it does not require slow burning unstable powders that gum up the action. I wouldn't have built an upper if I didn't reload.
Hi, thanks for doing this series of videos. I know this video is 6 months old, maybe old is not the correct wording but you get my drift, data changes and improvements are made. I just put together (two weeks ago) a 6ARC rifle with a 20" SS416R Ballistic Advantage 1/7, a good trigger, and and the other parts are good as well, mil-spec right. So far I have shot 80 rounds so as to put down a layer of copper and figuring out what ever bugs it may have, so far, 80 shots and no issues. The investment for me was the barrel and a trigger, everything else is everything else, until we start getting picky about stuff and want to improve on the current system (I'm there now, lol). I stuck my nose in another set of videos regarding buffer tubes and their springs, that's my next upgrade to make it a smoother shooter. I will look at the rest of your series, and I may add (contribute) to your comment section, starting here because I want to see this succeed as I'm sure you and all of us who invest time and effort in doing things like this. Good day Sir. PS: Can you send me some good forums of discussion about the 6ARC? Appreciate it. Jerry
Hey Jerry, thanks for the comment. You’re correct- this vid is slightly “old” in the sense that there is continued growth of 6ARC products and shooters since the vid was made. There are several groups geared toward 6ARC on Facebook- 6mm ARC, BRH, and the Quantified Performance Members page are the ones I frequent the most!
I build rifles , mainly 300 blackout , 6mm arc , 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmoor and all I can say is after I built my 1st 6mm arc I haven’t built another 5.56 since and don’t care too . I’ve had zero reliability issues with any of the 3 6mm arc’s that I’ve built and I can’t say the same for any of my 5.56’s even the ones that were bought factory made “ Ruger , Springfield and Sig “ I also reload and I haven’t really had an issue with ammo even though you are correct about the limitations of availability and makers I have close to 1,700 rounds 1,200 being 100 grain hand loads , I have used ALOT of Grendel brass when needed…… again this is just my experience.
Glad to hear you're having a great experience with 6ARC. I have to say mine hasn't been stellar; reliability and accuracy issues galore. Hoping to get these problems solved. I really like the cartridge on paper, but this rifle isn't one I'd rely on yet!
This one took a little while for parts research and then actually FINDING the parts, but it came out great! Looking forward to some range time with it.
Just completed my upper so i may do a UA-cam vid describing the components and resulting accuracy. I'm building a custom lower as well with matching billet upper
My experience anyway is using only DuraMags for 6mm and never had an issue with mags. The only mag issue I've had was when not using DuraMags. From talking with guys that know more than me and the people I've known that had the gas tube issue were all with adjustable gas blocks. Any builds not using adjustable haven't had any issues. I think it could just be getting the small bugs worked out with it being newer and figuring out what works best for reliability.
I have heard this about the adjustable gas blocks as well, although I believe we run in the same circles. Did you receive any insight as to why that might be?
@@sunandshadow_llc I got a very long explanation, but mainly due to differences in pressure and the lower pressure from adjustables allowing more stuff to cake up. I also believe Proof particularly designed theirs with a non adjustable GB
I bought ASC mags(Stoner), and also E-Lander(Alexander Arms). The ASC stated they were proprietary 6mm ARC, whereas the E-Lander actually stated they were 6.5 Grendel or 6mm ARC... But... the follower shapes were identical, spring tension was identical, and I honestly couldn't see any difference, except the finish on the ASC mag followers are matte, whereas the E-Lander followers are shiny. Performance was identical, and the Hornady Precision Hunter 108 ELD-X fed perfectly using both magazines, with zero malfunctions. I would be curious as to the "dirty gas tube" issue..? Couldn't this be easily resolved by choosing a better/different powder? I'll definitely be looking into this. I plan to load using CFE223 and TAC to start, and maybe look into couple other options like LeverEvolution.
The mags are about what I've seen. No 6 ARC-specific mags yet, and the ones marked "6ARC" are just the same as 6.5G. Maybe they don't need to be different? Haven't looked into it enough yet. The dirty gas tube reports seem isolated to specific set-ups (factory ammo, SA adjustable gas block, 18" barrel with rifle+1 gas tube). Can only speculate as to cause; no definitive answer on that one yet.
I have not had any gas tube issues, though I have heard about this. I have also not put 1000 rounds of Hornady's factory ammo, and that stuff is very dirty. Most of the ammo run through my setup has been hand loads using powders like Match Rifle, Varmint, 2000MR, Varget, N133, AR-Comp, CFE223, and LeveRevolution. All except the last two are fairly clean burning. Mags have been a thorn in my side, particularly anything that has more than 15-rd capacity. I have tried Elanders, ASC, and DuraMag. DuraMags have worked the best for anything more than 15-rd capacity. If there is a way to make stronger bolt lugs within the AR-15 platform this cartridge will do so much better. Pressure limitations are this cartridge's enemy.
@@sunandshadow_llc N133 for 70gr and 2000MR, Varmint, or Match Rifle (in that order) for 100-108gr. Didn't give me factory velocities, but velocities that aren't looked down upon.
For mags, C Products duramag and don't look back. 1100 rds through mine and not a issue one. It's a absolute hammer as long as the velocity stays around the 2660 fps range. When it speeds up it loosens up grouping wise. That's just the way this barrel is apparently. The 108gr eld-m ammo is fairly temp stable for factory ammo. The 105gr Black ammo, not so much. I've chrono'd using a magnetospeed and from 50 degrees up to mid 70's it doesn't seem to affect the 108 match much BUT 80 degrees and above it does speed up some. The other day I was getting 2699 fps with it. Now, the 105gr Black, 50 degrees it ran 2635 fps, 83 degrees it ran avg 2751 fps with two rds just over 2800 fps. So, for plinking/practice sure, run the 105 black but for competition probably not a great idea if the environment is prone to temp changes of 20 degrees or more during the day. Handloads, while good velocity can be achieved with leverevolution it sucks for temp stability. Nobody needs that problem. I saw decent velocity doing a ladder test with VV N150. N140 was too slow. Going to try N540 this week, find the velocity node then load some up and try them in different temp ranges. Unsure of how temp stable it is plus N150 is extremely difficult to find. If anyone has suggestions to powder that is very temp stable feel free to leave a comment. We should all be trying to help each other seeings how supplies are still scarce these days. Overall, for a AR15 gas gun, I believe 6 ARC is the way to go. Yeah, no cartridge is perfect/give everyone exactly what they want but in the 15 platform (until the next cool thing comes along) I think this is a pretty good cartridge. If you want more speed have a 15 done in 6 GT. (Yes, that's a thing. I know of at least one person that's had it done.) Oh, and Giesslle is working on a 15 designed specifically for the ARC.
