To anybody here recently with a DUI I can tell you from experience that it will get better, your life will go on and it's not the end of the world. I got a DUI 08/16/19 and of course I felt like many of you, depressed, sad, feeling shame for having a DUI attached to my name, feeling embarrassed anytime I had to utter the words DUI to anyone I had to tell. It's a scary, crappy feeling. But in time it goes away and you hit that stage of just wanting to do what you gotta do and put it behind you. It was a mistake you made that day/night just consider yourself lucky for not hurting anyone or yourself. What's done is done so just move forward and focus on never making that same mistake twice. I got caught ditching a checkpoint and was taken in immediately after submitting to a blood test at the hospital. I got a lawyer to help me through the process and ultimately I had a bac of 0.17 I remember everything that happened when I got pulled over and cooperated to the fullest. I was scared as can be and nervous just thinking about everything I had just screwed up and how I was going to have to tell my family and friends. I did 8 hours in a cell and they let me go home. I never applied for a restricted license even though I was able to, but because I gave my car to my sister afterwards I felt I didn't need the restricted and would just do the full blown suspension of 4 months. Luckily my job wasn't in jeopardy and I live relatively close so it wasn't an issue for me to not have my license immediately. I received 6 months of DUI classes which I attended once a week, I had to go to 22 AA meetings, pay a fine of 1,100 dollars, attend a MADD class, and do 8 hours community service. As the months went by I started letting up on myself and realized I'm one of many who have a DUI, a lot of us (them) are good people with good intentions, we just messed up one night in our lives. I completed everything I had to complete, got the SR22 insurance and I got my license back. If I can give you some advice get the SR22 INSURANCE immediately even if it's Non-owners, the time you have it starts immediately when you get it. I have to have it for 3 years. I know it seems like a lot but one thing at a time and it will get done. Good luck to you all, no feeling is permanent it's just for the moment.
Good advice man, just got mine and have 1st court date in mid October. Wrecked my sisters car so made me feel even more like a fuckin idiot (which I am for making that choice smh) either way. Usually make the right decisions, sucks I put people in jeopardy that night but I’m ready to get this whole thing rolling and just looking for ways to contribute to society, and ways to start forgiving myself. Reading this certainly helped, thanks again!
I’m tripping out i just got a second dui and I’m tripping balls feels like my life got better than this happened and yeah feels like it’s over for me
This comment really helped me. Seriously thank you so much.
Thank you for all the details, just got my first dui yesterday and this helped a lot
How is your life now?
I just got a dui over the weekend. I’m so depressed and scared. I feel like I ruined my life. Hoping for the best outcome because I can’t calm myself down.
Just got mine too. It was a freak accident where my tire blew and my axle came off and had to call the cops. Great first date story...very nervous also. Let me know if you just need someone to talk to. All have to stick together.
I just installed that device in my truck its really annoying. If yall got any questions maybe I can help
You will be ok. I just got my 2nd and you just have to just threw the hoops but you will be fine.

I got my first DUI over the weekend
Crazy, I had my first dui last year it was an experience. I felt like I was the worst person in the world, looked down on society. But my friends and family were supportive. I still have a beer every now and than but I always know to call someone or get an uber bc its not worth it. Be safe everyone.

If you get a dui! Don’t panic, hire an experienced dui attorney! If there were no accidents where ppl were not injured that’s a plus! Also if you have clean record or minor arrest that’s another plus! There ways to either have a dui case dismissed or charges reduced to a less offense! Again it all depends on the case & the experience lawyer! Stay positive, this is pretty much a wake up call, many ppl I know won their cases or got charged reduced or even dismissed! Never ever plead guilty! Take it a a step at a time...
Good luck to everyone going through this process! Stay positive and get you a good lawyer
Thanks for sharing your personal experience. Situations like these are truly embarrassing, even for first time offenders. Plus, thanks for your advice and consolation.
I'm watching this as a recovering alcoholic trying to get sober, you have succeeded in continuing that process, thank you.

Thank you my friend for sharing this video. I just got mine and needed to hear this. Thank you
I have a month left with mine. They really make you learn your lesson. Hardest year of my life. But you’re exactly right. You’ll get through it.
Thank you so much for this authentic, calming video.

Hey don’t worry about it I got 2 in CT. One when I was 18 and then another one 10 years later. Just take it as a life lesson. We’re creatures of habit so just try not to stress and do your best to make healthy choices.
It's awful feeling too much wine with dinner and a life lesson learned from it. From what I'm hearing laws have changed and they have eliminated suspensions in NJ for first time offence. Just need interlock and of course fines. Helpful video thanks.
@@degoek How much are the fines?
Hey do you have a update
EXCELLENT VIDEO. YOU HELPED A LOT OF VERY FRIGHTENED PEOPLE.
Thanks for the video! I got my first a few months ago, I'm about 4 months into having the interlock device. No issues until this morning, as it had been sitting in single digit temps all weekend. These things definitely malfunction in the cold, so find a way to keep the POS warm when you're not driving. After the classes and fines, life does start to go back to normal. I get my device taken out in 8 months, counting down the days.
I feel sick and can hardly think.
this is the only thing online that has helped me at all
I refused as well. I’m scared, but now I’m feeling a lot better because of your video. Thank you so much for this.

May as well close down the bars.
Thank you for making this video! I was truly getting ready to go to jail, scared, helpless, broken, disappointed with myself.
Good video. Remember it could be a hell of a lot worse. You didn’t kill or hurt anybody. One bad choice that comes with punishment and difficulties. The days and weeks go by even though sometimes the minutes seem like hours. People forgive and you have to forgive yourself. Hang your head high and be proud of yourself. Learn the lesson this has taught you. This will pass and you will continue to learn and be proactive and will help others. But please everyone , don’t drive under the influence. Ever.
Having suicidal thoughts… after getting my third.. so upset that my husband hid the guns….
Oh fuck.... Yeah babes 3rd dui is really rough they're not gonna f around. It's gonna be a lot but try to breathe at least you have a husband to help u through it
@DoorsToHideBehind156 yeah funny thing and nothing but the grace of God I know that… but when I went to court three weeks later they ended up only charging me with a first dui offense because my last one was 8 years ago and they felt it was more of a mental health issue due to lack of medication more than I’m a raging alcoholic… I was parked and the car wasn’t running…. But I was in the driver seat smoking a cig waiting for my husband to come get me as I was too paranoid to leave my friends house after having three shots…. Somehow someone deemed me sitting there suspicious and called cops… anyway I am now officially working with court diversion and have to go to counseling for two months with a couple UA’s to do…… after I do everything they want it will be wiped from my record…..
@DoorsToHideBehind hi dear thanks for the response! Yeah I can be super dramatic but for some reason they only charged me with a first dui offense…..and I’m working with court diversion currently… if I do everything they want by the end it will be wiped from my record…. Been sober since I got it which was may 7… so I should be okay at least…. I have to do the crash program but looking like I won’t have to get a breathalyzer in my car again but even if I do it’s still turned out way better than I imagined…. Thank you Lord! 💕🙏😭
In your FIRST DUI, as long as you didn’t kill anybody they will have you a slap in the wrist. Relax. Just don’t REFUSE to take a breathalyzer test or your license will be suspended automatically and you will need an SR22 for car insurance, which will make your car insurance go up AT LEAST a couple hundred dollars monthly. And keep your mouth shut in the back of the police car. Just take a nap on your way to jail. Good day ppl
Thank you so much for your positivity! I got my first dui downtown on Halloween I was pulling out of the parking lot AND THEN put on my lights and the cops stopped me for that! You are correct reviews can be very upsetting. I am 72 and retired I was charged with Care and Control while over the limit. I was in a parked car, engine off. I watched your video last year and thank you for posting it. To everyone with your first DUI don’t be so hard on yourself stuff happen things happens I was not driving when I got mine but was parked in a parking lot but my keys was on me, crazy. The hardest part was the fines for me but nothing a little extra community service couldn’t help pay. As far as background goes each state is different in MN if your already employed and don’t have a job that requires you to drive you should be okay.
same thing happened to my brother. he wasn't even on the road, but blew unfortunatley high and got arrested. suspend for a year, interlock device and everything. but some people drive drunk on the road and nothing happens to them. crazy

Had one dui, took a year and half of my life. Happened at worst time because I was about to get great gov't job and was denied coz of case pending, was devastated. I'm 3 months into my probation. Court was hell. I had panic attacks on the regular leading up to it and then during the month after when I was almost getting killed everday on the bus. First few months are absolute trash. AT times I would break down and want to scream because they just poured more and more bullshit on me every chance they got, and SO many people now have absolute power over me you feel like your freedom is a damn illusion, and it kinda is. Financially, its a nightmare. All I can say is its a little less intolerable now but it still pretty much dominates my identity. Trying to have a social life on probation is laughable. It's basically outdoor jail. GL.

Got a 0.133 first DUI in July 2018. Its Feb 2019 and the pain continues...first the attorney charged 5k usd to deal with the case, need to call the bond company every week, the my driver license got suspended, had to pay 1k usd for a occupational DL, i have been ordered to install an interlock device, attend weekly classes, do periodic drug screenings and do tons of community services; a system designed to milk the cash cows...they don't want you to become a better citizen....they will welcome your dwi every single time...this is a multibillion dolar business
You could’ve killed someone, should’ve thought of all this before you did what you did. No remorse
The solution is simple: Don't drink and drive. Compendre?

I feel for you. I dont want to even drive anymore. No fun. Too risky. Law enforcement allowed to use excessive force is allowed, to provoke us into anger. They can blame it on us. Alcohol sold everywhere, is from local brewers. Stimulates economy. But, too many fassists. I ride my bike and walk as much as possible. Dont drink alcohol.
Thanks man for the advice.

I was 19 when I got my UNDERAGED DUI. I live in North Carolina so it's the harshest state for the "No Tolerance" policies. Anyways, I remember the entire thing like it was yesterday. It was exactly a year ago in June of 2017. Just started college...started experimenting with drinking. I had probably 3 beers and a shot of vodka didn't even feel drunk...two hours later, it was still in my system apparently. Whatever. So on my way back home, I ended up getting stopped at a check point and I was literally the very first person they stopped. When I saw those blue lights, all of the blood in my body felt like it rushed to my toes. I blew a .09. The cop was cool about it, he knew I was scared shitless so he kind of did his best to let me know I was going to be fine. At the jail house after processing, and my final blow, it dropped to a .06 which is barley under the legal limit of .08. So finally my mom came and picked me up. I had to pay $300 for a 4 day AA class. $400 just to TALK to my lawyer, on top of $2,500 for him representing me. And $200 worth of court fines. Finally in February of this year, the cop who arrested me actually ended up resigning and moving to another state, the judge understood that it was a huge choice of mistake on my part, and I'm currently a nursing student. Everything got dropped by the grace of God. I was able to keep my license, my insurance didn't go up, and I didn't have to have an interlock device. I wouldn't wish a DUI on my worst enemy but you will get through it. You never think it will happen to you, but you never understand it until it does.
Thanks for sharing your experience!

@@crunch9876 Update: I'm now on probation for the next year, have the interlock device installed in my car, and have unbelievably high court and probation costs.
Though my BAC was high af, I do remember the stop, intake process, and even walking into the cell that night. Thank the Universe I did not hit or injure myself or anyone else, I read the police report and it stated I was driving around 30mph and drove straight into a ditch. A witness who had seen my automobile face down in a ditch called the police. In the police report, I was apparently laying face down in a muddy ditch when the responding officer showed up. He had asked if I had been drinking, which I told him the truth, told him that I would fail any FST's but I would take a breathalyzer test. After performing the test, that's when I was told the result was .298. I wasn't combative at all and was totally compliant with him (which helped my case in court). He handcuffs me in the front and takes me to the county jail to be processed. To whoever is reading this: I beg of you *PLEASE* call a taxi or a friend if you *EVER* are about to drive after drinking. IT IS NOT WORTH IT.
Idiot Nidiot what’s the cost of the interlok?
Did you get the restricted license after your court date?

I got my first DUI about a week ago. I ended up in a ditch (no one was harmed), and as I was trying to push my car out of the ditch I got lit up. I've never had an encounter with the police so I was cooperative and just did everything the officer told me to do. I did the field sobriety tests, and the breathalyzer and blew a .24 on scene. I spent the night in jail and got out the next afternoon on bail. I retained a lawyer who is going to try and lessen my sentence, but I am honestly scared shitless. I am a senior in college who is supposed to graduate next semester. I was given a temporary drivers permit upon being released, but does anyone have any DUI experiences in the state of Michigan? The fear of the unknown has been eating me alive, I haven't been able to sleep or eat in a week.
courtney king I got my first DWI on May 2nd this year 2019 at about 1:30am. I spent the night in jail and got out on bail at 9:30 that morning. Blew a 0.08 and did field sobriety test very well in my opinion. Also blew a 0.08 on the "big" test inside the jail. I'm also a senior in college about to graduate next semester. Our stories are VERY similar. I'm also scared to death. I can't sleep for thinking about it. I hired a lawyer which cost me $5,500. Haven't told anyone in my family that it happened. I took out a loan to pay him. I also got a pink sheet about a consent to have a hearing about the suspension of my license. My lawyer said I'll most likely have to get an interlock device installed on my car which costs every fucking month. My court trial date is August 5. My lawyer faxed that pink consent form to driver control and I'm waiting on a letter from them in the mail about the hearing. I'm here to talk if you want, as I'm suffering through the same issue. Good luck to you
@@Jozart I would actually really like to talk. My lawyer got my court date pushed back to a later date so its nice that I don't have to worry about everything going south right at this very moment. I think I have been doing too many google searches because I am literally reading the worst outcomes, and I just can't have any of that happening to me when I'm supposed to graduate in a semester.. Hope all goes well with you too, and if it is your first offense and you blew a .08 I trust that the judge will be easier on you.
Thanks for this
I am in my 8th month with Smart start installed. You just have to relax and realize it is something you have to live with. I am not embarassed about having one. I tell many people about it and show them the thing you blow into. I have no camera installed. Just play by the rules and all should be OK. At install I was told....dont drink late at night if you have to drive early the next day so you should keep that in mind. I think 12 hours is the rule of thumb but I could be wrong?. My settings are 0.02 Warn 0.04 Fail. Obviously Pass senses 0 or next to no alcohol. To blow into the device to start I have to hum as I blow. Say the word WHO as you blow for 7 seconds should be OK. Once started you will be asked to blow the same way again in 5 minutes or so could be longer than that. The next request to blow will be about 20 minutes or so after the first blow request. You get about 5 minutes to blow so you could pull over if you want to. The frustrating part is when it beeps and asks you to blow longer or harder or softer. You should be OK with it after a few days. I think the secret is to not let it play on your mind that you have one. Just accept it. But remember YOU and only YOU are responible for the results. Well I think that is pretty much it from me.
I'm watching these videos because of the case of Danyel Middleton who is in jail due to a recent DUI. RIP Socorro Maya Martinez.
Thanks for this. I’m in the middle of fighting for a wet and reckless and I feel like my life is ruined.
How did you make out if you don't mind me asking
@@phantompunchmotorizedbikes1624 She probably came out better than a DUI sentence as wet and reckless is a lesser charge.
Thank you 🙏
Man !!! Haha I liked the Inro. You just got a dui haha. Bro I just got it. You r right. I’m stressed out but watching your video gives me hope. Thanks
Especially if youre a police officer because you wont face any charges !
Omg I'm so scared, I just got my first DUI on last Friday and got arrested but didn't go to jail. damn this shit is so freaking scary.
I'm right there with ya Anya. I had my third court appearance today which finalized my case, and I have 10 days to obtain a restricted drivers license, get the intoxicator installed in my car, and report for a years worth of probation. If only I stayed at my brother's house that night when he tried to explain to me how intoxicated I was, I wouldn't be facing any of this. But we will get through it. It was my first offense (never even gotten a speeding ticket and I'm 25), but it was my BAC of .298 that got me.
How did everything turn out? Did you get a lawyer?
What was ur blood level?
So I just recieved my reports today which mean 7 months later. At that time officer didn't give me any details, tickets whatever but they just gave me 7 days to find attorney. I'm just hoping for the best 🙏
It really made you to think about suicide. Never thought I'd feel that way but everybody says DUI will kill your life. Just relax as he says it is just DUI. People make mistakes, you didn't hurt anyone and yourself. So everything is gonna be fine.
Recovering alchohalic, got 2 duis so I know shame, the second was the hard learned lesson I needed to really understand the consequences. There is no justifying your actions when it comes to drinking and driving.
Thanks brother
Learn from the DUI, For your wallets
sake, peace of mind, safety and
for the safety of everyone else.
UBER/LYFT, a designated driver,

Drink as you wish......just do not
then get behind the wheel.
Best to you all...party SMART.
Expect to pay alot of money, not beable to drive for a while and learn not to do it again.
Thank you man. Just got one last night, crashed into a fence a mile from the bar. I’m glad it was just me though.
thank you soooo much
Thank you so much
You’re going to be an even better version of yourself a year from now!
@Dalia Let's get drunk and drive together hun
It’s not that bad if you’re younger with not much to lose and no career. But if you have a good job especially a govt job you’re gonna lose your job and it’s gonna ruin your career
Thanks for this video
Thank you :)
In utah here. they are trying to take my license away for 2 years. For a first offense charged DUI... i am a business owner with kids a house my beloved mustang. Wasn't even drunk or buzzed nor was I swerving or causing any problems. I had two beers. I got a lawyer taking it too trial if I have too. I'll let you guys know how it goes
Utah fucking sucks, the limit is 0.04 there. I remember getting flashed 1 mile from the border, and pulling over at 0.055 in the Arizona Canyon border area, BEST day of my life. Fuck Utah, I am never going back to that state.
@@beaub9766 yeah its ridiculously strict out here.
@@Wolfrunner650 My family founded a town (Monroe, UT) out there a long long time ago, I was in the back seat with a gram of weed and got pulled over just barely in AZ/Nevada. Pulled over 30 minutes earlier and I would be in prison right out of St. George. I am not a danger at 0.03-.05 and to be quite honest with you I am seeking help and more than likely never drinking again so I can avoid ever getting one in California.
I just got convicted of my first DWI. I fought it because I was not drunk, but the court suppressed our evidence that the wrong results were accredited to me with the person who’s blood was analyzed directly after mine. This person in question blew a .26 and his results came back at .04 (mouthwash levels and scientifically impossible) I blew a .06 and my results came back as .13. After the trial when the lawyers went to talk to the the jury, The jury said they believed the officer lied, by based my decision solely on the blood results which is what was suppressed by the courts because from what my lawyer said they would have had to throw out every DWI case that toxicologist had performed. I was truly rail-roaded by the system and it’s seriously depressing. I’m considering going to the news about this but I am really scared after going through trial and seeing how the system can completely falsify so much information and take you down. What scares me the most is what if this was a serious crime and I was facing harsher sentences for something I did not do.
Local courts do not care about innocence or guilt, they care about convictions. Why not appeal the decision?
TheCommentBeatKiller yeah. They lie a lot
I’m fighting a Fake DUI of Cannabis charge from April 2015 with a court appointed attorney. When we lost the case I appealed so I could go before a Jury.
I go back to Wake county NC court January 28th 2019. JK Legan (former Wake County Sherrif now NC State Trooper) is Guilty of Lying against me and Threatening to kill me at the Checkpoint using intimidation in order to get False DUI convictions.
I have Suffered with PTSD ever since this Checkpoint, I have a panic attack if I get an unexpected visit at home, I’m afraid of law-enforcement & I think that they are out to kill me or lie against me to make money.
I have prayed on this for years and I have successfully started my own business as a Twitch Streamer but I just don’t make enough money for an attorney. I need help and I need prayers, I need people to share my GoFundMe and help me out
Sorry you feel like a victim of an injustice, but you were drunk. Blame technicalities and blame the officer, but you were drunk and got caught. Go to the media and tell them your story.
@@toms7947 Are you fucking stupid? Can you read? I mean seriously. There are so many idiots it makes me wonder how we as a species survive.
Praying for you. Sorry you are going through hell. Stay away from all business that even sale alcoholic beverages. System rigged. No mercy/Doom.
... you just reminded me of another story... about 10 years ago
i'm not going to write every single detail about it... but lets just put it this way..
my keys were in the ignition because i was listening to my tunes, (i wasn't even inside of my car).. i was parked at whiskeys... got arrested, got charged with "impaired care and control of a vehicle" .. and they consider it the same as a Dui here (i had no idea... )
so i still had to go through all of that (ignition interlock, classes and whatnot)
paid a little over 8 grand for my lawyer... the crown of attorney was surprisingly on my side as well but the judge assumed i would have drove, so that's why i was found "guilty" ... over an assumption
...it was definitely horrible
** the one thing i HAD to purchase was the portable device because they kept all records of the one you use in the car*** so if you were to drink the night before and still had alcohol in your system? (yeah.. not good)
ontario has a pretty strict policy when it comes to that...def learned my lesson.. if i get caught again i'm going directly to jail for 12 days
i really respect that you shared this story because many people wouldn't want to talk about it again
*Edit*
one more thing... once you guys get the system removed? be careful.. because cops will just randomly stop you to see if you're drinking and driving again, or even smell like booze from the night before..
Brother... thank you.
Just got my first last night. Thanks for the reassurance 💙💜
How did it turn out
@@DDR88767 a breathalyzer and cam (in my car),court fees, therapy and community service. Survived. Haven't had a drop of alcohol since it happened. Don't see any benefit to drinking at this point so continuing to abstain until further notice.
Well, panic when u clean the interlock I clean my husband interlock with lysol because the pandemic...bad idea because when try to start the car was blocked and we called the customer service to try to received help from them and was not help. Just call on Monday abd payed for a key to unblocked the interlock i explain to them everything but they reported my husband to Motor vehicle again 😐😐. Now he needs to come back to the schoo.l hope they understand with this pandemic you need to becareful because they handled multiples interlocks with their hands. They point if they have cameras they can see everything that is happening. .... this is a reference or advice to people that used this interlocks. I think they just want money from people.
Thanks man I just got my first impaired driving charge two days ago. I’ve been feeling so bad for myself I’m only 17. I got lawyer just like you hopefully in a year and bit I can drive again
how did it go for you being 17?

Thanks for video,,,,,still trying to pull my head out of the sand. Made a mistake
I got a dui when I was 17 now I’m 18 do I need to get one of those things in my car? And is it any different if I was underage because 17 is considered underage in my state so.
Thanks so much. I got stupid last night and blew a .06 in a state with a zero tolerance law. The fortunate thing is I don't believe the implied consent revocation will affect me and I'll be eligible for a diversion program. I spent the night in jail and was scared to death. I was mad at everything at first, but now, I kinda feel like I owe the officer who picked me up a hug. Thank you for your story. I feel a lot better about my experience.
Sending positive vibes your way! That first night in jail is the worst part by far. After that it’s just one step at a time. In my experience I realized it’s just another learning experience. No different than college or a bad relationship. 3 years from now you’ll be a better version of yourself.
owe the officer a huge? explain?
@@project10bball it’s probably because the arrest woke him up and made him not want to drink and drive again and that probably in time will save someone’s life
Here’s an experience from NY, my partner got stopped because he forgot to turn the lights on. So basically no bad driving, or injured to anyone. I think the police guy decided to ask if he drink before driving because my partner smelled like alcohol. He answer “yes, I had a drink during diner” It was true he did had two beers at diner. I was in the car, so I witness everything.
Police ask to get out of the car and continue to do the test where you walk and count. He pass that test, but police keep coming to me and asking me how much he drink. I said one, but he was still not happy. So he ask to take the test with your breathing. My partner took it he did not refuse. (Apparently is not good if you refuse) he did not pass that one and was taken to jail. He was only there just an hour and was released. I waited in the Lobby and when home with him.
Court day was just few weeks later, and they took his license. We did not got a lawyer, not sure if that’s good or bad. He said he was guilty and just this week he got a temporary license and starting in may he has to take some classes. He has a temporary license, but he’s only allowed to drive to work or just for an hour. He will not get his normal license back in 3 months. So for 3 months I’ll have to do all the driving.
I’m not sure if it could be good to get a lawyer or not.
We also not sure if it will affect us buying a house.
For what I have learned from watching all this videos is that is not good if you refuse to take the breath test, also obviously if you hurt someone or get in a car accident.
I think my partner got a different type of consequences because he did not got into a car accident or had lots of alcohol in his system, and did not refuse the test. Will give more updates if anyone else wonder, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. It’s very stressful and i understand what you dealing with.
Thank you
