Believe it or not man, getting one of these changed me for the better. I’m healthier now, don’t feel like I have to drink on the weekends... and tested me to socialize without one drop of alcohol. It does suck sometimes because the nerves are still there but everything is so much clearer. I could start drinking again and just make sure I don’t drive for a day or 2 after so that I don’t fail but honestly this no drinking thing is changing me and helps me stay focused on my goals.
Thats fair, but these devices are assholes. Mine said "Blow harder" 3 times in a row today, I had to pull over because i was gonna pass out from it. Then it killed my battery after work and I had to beg strangers for a jump. Also it tries to screw you when you turn off the car, hitting you with a ninja test while the stupid "restart" 2 minutes counts down, expecting you to sit in your car for 2 minutes every time you stop somewhere, which is ass stupid and should only trigger while the car is running or when you start it (no reason to test at any other time), but hey more money for this private company, and now that they made it mandatory for first time offenders their profits are soaring!
@@vagabond2866 About the "restart" thing, I've never had a retest during a restart, or at least the SoS would've given mail for a violation if I did. I always took the keys out and watched for the "restart" prompt to know it's working properly, then left my vehicle while it was counting down.
@@ngarza813 hey man, it sucks but it will be out of your car before you know it, as long as you play your cards right. I don’t drink and drive anymore, I barely even drink. What’s crazy is I’ve met several people who have had these devices more than once, whatever you do, don’t be that guy. Good luck man don’t stress it, it could be a lot worse.
Thanks for this video! I got a DUI 4 months ago and I am now currently over 4 months sober from drugs and alcohol! Even weed...I got my interlock installed last month and still haven’t received my license after this whole corona situation however I know it’s on the way. Videos like these make me realize that I’ll get used to driving with an interlock device same as I got used to not being able to drive at all. Life is crazy and stressful situations will always appear, sometimes at the fault of our own. All we can do is learn and try OUR best to get through it. Thanks again ❤️
Once I found out I could get one I had mine installed and my license reinstated within 2 weeks. Was not expecting it to be that quick. That being said it's a pain to use but not having a license is much worse.
Got a dui in washington 8 years ago unfortunately did not take care if it till recently. The DOL not the court requires me to have it It minnesota although I'm not a Washington resident anymore. Thank you for the tips!
Dude this video was my saving grace. I got this sucker and I couldn't use it. It took me sooo long to get this technique down. I had four violations the first month because I sucked at blowing!🤣🤣 I would literally sit in a panic until I loaded your video up on UA-cam. Once I watched you I started the car. I had you with me for prob 2.5 months! Mine should be taking the train here in the next three weeks. Def good pointers also. I too had to replace a cord, nothing major other than that. I'll add that food doesn't make this thing go off. They told me some would at the shop... didn't happen here. I chew gum and smoke cigs while blowing. It's easy with time. Thanks to you, I'm now a pro blower!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
AL O yeah I don't think so, since your mouth out with water or drink something non-alcoholic of course. Last time I had a cleaning at the dentist I worried because they give you mouthwash but I'm sure it's alcohol free anyway- I just rinsed with water and was good to go. There's really no excuses, if u get hammered and blow to early, just own it at the shop when u get your violation taken off. They already judge you for having one so.... F it. 🤣
SuzieQ64 the guys at my shop were super chill, no judging whatsoever. They told me of a guy that would come in three times a week or more, sometimes twice in a day, he eventually parked the car in their lot and took off the plates 😂🤣😂🇺🇸👻🥳
MWorsa hahaha that's insane! I'm currently in a predicament, the DMV sent me letters saying I'm good to drive today, but nothing about a report from them, so I'm gonna go get my license when my camera card comes, go to the police barracks, with a friend, and have them run that bitch. If it's legit and everything's cool, I'm getting it yanked without the report. F em. 🤣🤣
I had my Smart Start interlock instilled about a month ago. My experience has been good. Over time a person should get better with using the device. In NC we do start up, rolling, and destination blows.
Got my 2nd violock because I missed my rolling test twice. I've only had it a week. I was literally in tears when I was talking to the smart start rep. I told him it can't be this hard. I feel like I ride the short bus. Lol. We did a few test blows and he said I sounded fine but he couldn't understand why it wasn't working. He said it might be the device. When he tried to troubleshoot it i could not push the buttons. Took it back to the shop and it was the device. They swapped it out and it works fine. Word of advice.. it shouldn't take 15-20 min worth of tries to make it work. I was exhausted by the time I passed. This makes you wanna say F it and Uber. Lol Smart start reps have really good customer service and they are patient. Call them to walk you through it. And any one who can't hold their blow or have respiratory issues there is a "low breath" authorization you can get to adjust the blow pattern. You have to go to the secretary of state for it. Happy blowing... 😊
I got this installed in my car yesterday thanks for the tip man, so as long it ask you to blow you’re good to go and unplug in winter, but what I start my car and it ask me that two minutes
These are jus ways for the system to keep us broke. If all this bs helped everyone? There wouldn't be people with 6 duis. I've been around those ones. And they were drinking with no license and talking to me about how they did prison time over their 3rd and 4th dui lol.
I was surprised at how quick my state got my license reinstated after I did all the steps. Was a pretty smooth process getting the device installed as well. Took less than 2 weeks to start driving again after found out I could get it. My lawyer never told me. I've been using it around 2 weeks and haven't gotten the humming down yet. Sometimes I get it right away other times takes a few tries. The first day I got it my second time using it it took me about 30 minutes to get my vehicle started. When I basically screamed in it then it finally started. I never have issues while I'm driving though. It does suck but not being able to drive is much worse. I had to switch insurance and it actually went down.
@@frankmontez6853 State Farm dropped me because at the time you needed a form from your insurance to get i interlock. So I talked to an insurance broker and ended up getting cheaper insurance through Progressive.
I've found that blowing into it, while humming, as if you're blowing up a balloon.. cheeks all puffed out. and of course, a deep breath in right before.. good luck.
IT IS ANNOYING GETTING THE BLOW HARDER/LONGER/STRONGER MESSAGES. I JUST GO WHO AND BLOW AT THE SAME TIME....SEEMS LIKE AN ETERNITY TILL IT ANALYZES....WORKS FOR ME
What I've found: blow at a lower pitch. You don't have to blow too hard as long as you lean in with a blow at a low pitch. If you're getting a lot of "blow longer"s or "hum stronger"s try humming at your lowest pitch.
Thank you so much for this video. Is this one of the interlock which would prevent me from wearing perfumes or body mists? Cuz that would be a huge sacrifice.
Arab Scorpio it is not affected by such things as far as I could tell. I would suggest you do not spray it in the presence of the mouth piece if it contains much alcohol.
Thanks for sharing the video, I appreciate that you have a sense of humor about the situation, it's better than dwelling and beating yourself down (like I've been doing). You may not remember since this video's a couple years old but do you know the meaning of the blinking lights? I know that sounds random but the green and red lights don't always flicker the same even though all of tests have passed.
I honestly never paid much attention to the lights, only the sounds and what the screen said. This is after living with it for a year, I'm sure at first I might have been a little embarrassed about blowing in a parking lot or something, but then I was like, fuck it, these people don't know me and they're not paying attention to me anyway, would probably just think it was a cell phone if they were. I DD'd to a Dead and Company show while I had it and pretty much everyone in the car recognized the sound from having one LOL, you're definitely not alone. You didn't kill anyone and you're not in jail, serve your time and use it as a learning experience, you're not a bad person, just made a mistake, good luck to you! *According to the SmartStart web page, the lights are for the hearing impaired (no wonder I didn't pay much attention to them).
I just got a smart start installed and I noticed that the light on the right will blink when the device has a message on the screen. I only started noticing it while driving it and it will blink when it says please wait, then gives you the blow timer. I'm not sure about other times, like when waiting to start the car.
This is a great video gives people a better understanding on how to blow. I am curious to know how much does the insurance goes up after they find out you have a DUI
It could be ridiculous....not just double...time would tell. I was given a conditional discharge which meant probation not guilty and no Criminal Record. My drivers abstract showed guilty even so. To get a discharge you have to plead guilty....It is a scam
Mine didnt go up nor was reported to my insurance. 1 lesson i learned throughout my ordeal. Is the one thing that's constant with prosecutors? They love to make deals. Remember the courts want to find the most easy amd cheapest way out of a court session. Especially if that court has backlogged cases pending.
Thanks for this! I'm getting one installed today by suggestion of my attorney hopefully only until my court date in October. Is the camera for every device? Seems a little extreme. Also, how was it with a restricted driver's license? Where were you able to drive, just work?
Brandy Brown not sure if they all have cameras, I’m self-employed so I kinda just drove wherever I wanted/needed to. Some even more extreme versions have built in GPS and track your driving, mine did not.
@@MWorsa thank you just got mine installed. It has a built in camera in the device. Hoping to not go more than 6 months with this thing. The rolling tests are ridiculous. Court in Oct. Appreciate your vid.
You talked about a three minute window when you turn your car off. The gas station down the street from me has slow gas pumps. Can you stand outside with the door open and the vehicle running while your getting gas?
Surviving One Year It would definitely work, they may frown about you gassing up your car with it running though. Also, just be aware that it could start beeping while you’re not in the car and it’s running.
I'm getting the same device on Tuesday. But I have a trip I'm hoping to go on. Do you think it's a bad idea to travel with one of these? Can you blow while you're driving or does it make you pull over? I'll be travelling mountain highways fir 12 hours. Should I make other arrangements or is it possible? Thank you for this video and I appreciate any help or advice 💛
I drove from upstate New York to OBX no problems 😃 Blow and go baby! Blow while driving becomes second nature, it’ll start off in shorter ask to blow intervals and then after an hour or so it might only ask every 40 mins.
Thx for the video friend. How often over all do you feel like you have to blow into this thing? Let’s say ur driving 2 hours. How many times would it ask you to blow? Thx again
Well this video made me not feel so alone in this situation. I am getting this installed as soon as my RDP is mailed to me this month. Super stoked, but also pretty embarrassed. Question, do you have to pull over and stop driving when it asks you to blow again when you’re driving?? Thanks.
You definitely can roll and blow, some people apparently to prefer to pull over, whatever you’re comfortable with. Remember, you’re not a bad person, just made a mistake, you’ll get through it!
@@MWorsa Well I got it installed today! Ugh. Well it’s actually still there. I pick up my car in the afternoon. What’s your Insta? I’d like to ask to more questions.
I'm getting mine installed in TX next week. I live in GA but got CHARGED with a DWI in TX. I stay on the road working. Can I go to any of their locations to get the device recalibrated? Does TX require 3 blows per drive like you mentioned on the video? Startup, during and destination? My access to my vehicle provides for my children. If this thing gives false readings how can you prove otherwise? Can I flag down an officer and ask him to give me a breathalyzer? If I get locked out of my vehicle for a false reading I'm screwed.
In NY, there is no destination blow unless it beeps simultaneously with you turning off the ignition. Rolling blows are required after about the first 5 minutes and about every 20 minutes or so as you keep driving. As for the rest, SmartStartinc.com is an excellent place to start, call the 1-800 number, they are extremely helpful. Good luck! 🙂
Obsorb Evolve It should go into a 4 day countdown after your appointment and will actually display number of hours until it goes into lock mode, that’s how mine worked.
Wow, I have no idea how I will be able to pass bc of my breathing problem & having to use the valet service at the VA hospital in Richmond. I guess I won't be driving much & paying out my wazoooo to taxis or Uber. I can't risk any violations. Am so paranoid at 63, and my first big boo-boo, especially as a former Army military police woman. Thanks for the tips. I get mine installed on 24 May 2021.
I heard that if you get a letter from a doctor that you are unable to blow into the device it might change things. This is in Canada. May be worth checking it out
Hi nice video, I had gotten my 3rd dui back in 2008 and now in 2022 i still haven't gotten my drivers license reinstated. I live in nj and is where i gotten my 3rd dui. a couple of reasons why i still haven't gotten my drivers license reinstated is because the year 2018 when my license suspension has expired i had gotten a stroke and then as i was recovering from my stroke i was struck by vehicle in august of 2019. so i had to put it on hold. Now in 2022 after being sober since my last dui back in 2008 I had to take and complete an alcohol treatment program in order to move forward in getting my drivers license reinstated. I was on a court order have to install an interlock device system in my vehicle. I don't have an issue in having to have an interlock device sytem installed but i do have an issue with having to purchase and install the device on a vehicle i do not own yet and my drivers license is not reinstated yet. so i have to retake a written test and if i pass then i dont know how long i have to wait to take the drivers road test and when i pass the road test i then have my drivers license reinstated. then i will be able to drive. but first they want me to have the interlock device installed either on a family members car or a friends car. it just doesn't make sense at all. if i don't own a vehicle now, how am i going to purchase an interlock device when i would need car, car registration, and insurance info. on top of all this, im told i can put the device on a family members car or a friends car meanwhile going thru the process of obtaining my drivers license. so whoever is reading this, and had 3rd dui offense dating back 10 year in nj and had to purchase and install an interlock system before getting drives license, was there a workaround?
I know this comment was a while back, but did you get it all figured out? A 3rd DUI, ouch. That's a felony. Unfortunately I'm stupid and caught a 2nd DUI and all of what you mentioned is what they require of me as well. It's so confusing. It's a catch 22. Did you get it figured out? I'm looking for advice as well. I'm not looking forward to an interlock device, it's going to really suck and be costly.
Wow mines faulty man. Just got back from the Philippines after 8 years and found out I have to have it installed to get my license back. Had two other drivers drive for me to move it from Smart Start back to a parking spot until I get my license unsuspended. 1st time driving AWAY from getting it INSTALLED LOL... violation hit cuz the screen froze no count down... wouldn’t reset and actually got locked out later on long story short after the 4 days. 2nd time we got a tow truck from the same spot it was at back to a different smart start they charged me for the violation... 😂 ... total bs. Tow truck drops me off get it unlocked .. we drove no problems for 50 miles then the last 3 miles it freezes and violation hits in my driveway ... so now I’m back in the damn countryside with no license (because I’m waiting for it to be unsuspended) and a violation so I have to have someone drive my car back out to a Smart Start place 😂.... only my 2nd time on the road FML this thing is a piece of shit I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow to complain about how crappy this thing is in a very polite way to the poor employees that have to deal with customers like me. Cheers guys best of luck to you. May God help us! -Brian
Same shit here man....a shake down scam i think they are mob up ...all the shit and years of shit i been through and i fail it before i can make it to dmv ..i wasnt driveing...what now....they dont no i about to snap
Thank you for the review !!! I got one installed December 2020 - I have a few questions: 1. Any chances of getting it removed earlier than a year? 2. What happens with the device when probation ends? 3. What if I want to move to another state ?
1. I'm not sure, I heard it might be possible but, seemed to me more hassle than it's worth, depends on the court and DMV. 2. Probation? The time you're required to have it? I was not on probation for the duration of my time, so it's hard for me to answer that question, ask your P.O.. 3. You would have to talk to the courts, each State has different requirements. You can always call SmartStart direct, they are most helpful.
Have u ever had warm up problems...like it takes 10 15 or even 20 mins for the device to warm up..before u can even blow n start ur car??? Ive heard someone say that
Danielle Bordeau Never anywhere near that extreme. Usual warm up usually took under 30 seconds except in cold temperatures below freezing then perhaps up to 2 minutes tops.
Did you have any issues after the uninstalls of this System? I bought a Prius from a dude who got this system and it’s been having problems like randomly not starting at all. Like locked out. I am not sure what or where were the connections
yoyo Bored no issues whatsoever, it’s a simple plug and play system apparently, even had a repair shop bypass it once when I had my clutch replaced. The connection is under the dashboard somewhere.
MWorsa i see. But I think it’s different for a hybrid car but kind of similar. I hope it’s okay and I am starting to narrow down the issue to another part of the car. Hopefully that will be the last of my troubles! Thank you for the reply
Larry Jr I had no battery drainage issues related to this device. Other people including service personnel are allowed to drive your car providing they abide by the rules of the device (the installation center provided additional mouth pieces). Keep in mind, if they blow a violation or fail to start the vehicle within the parameters, it falls on you. I did have one shop contact Smart Start and they were able to bypass the system, they charged me $75 for labor which kinda sucked since I told them I had extra mouth pieces. Not too bad though, clutch throw out bearing seized while on vacation, glad to have the work done and spent a few extra days in Rehoboth Beach, NH 😃
Are you allowed to drive a different car if you have one of these? I'm trying to decide if I want my lawyer to ask for this or the mobile one so any suggestions would be appreciated.
What happens if you don’t blow and you turn your car off? On the second prompt it asks? Mine was locked out for 62hrs. I had to call and get a code and they charged me 25 dollars for it! I hate this damn interlock device.
So just curious, if you turn off your vehicle and it asks you to blow and you didn’t see it what happens? Does it just count as 1 RRskip or does it go through all your violations and lock you out?
This unit basically interrupts the ignition wire and I'm pretty sure the installers said it works with newer keyless ignition models. You can call SmarStart to confirm (800) 831-3299.
Dayum bro I caught one a year ago before corona just got sentenced in December and I’m gonna start driving in 2 months and get one installed I wonder if itl be one like this
Is it SmartStart brand? I had choice of provider, SmartStart and Intoxilock. I chose SmartStart because it sounded more positive (less incriminating) and the PO gave me a card for the other lol. Depending on jurisdiction, you might not have the camera. Good luck sir. 🙂
Thanks brother, i got it installed 2 months ago no problems with it. Thanks for informing me that i had to blow when it asks even when I shut engine off seems like every other day when i pull into driveway it beeps to blow and im just like fuck it im home already and ignition off wtf do i gotta blow for, luckily played it safe and blew even after car off... go figure thanks man! Stay safe :)
these assclowns told me it didnt test you after you shut the car off, then got hit with a bunch of violations for missing tests. The system is shitttt and Im rooting for corona.
Just got this installed and I like it, however it seems that the cold we experience in Wisconsin makes it sort of malfunction... basically abort when Im doing everything right. Any tips for cold weather?
The winters in upstate NY can get quite cold, I really only noticed increased warmup time maybe the rare abort. I was instructed it was against the rules to disconnect the handheld piece and bring it inside. A guy from Canada said he was allowed to, not sure of the restrictions in your state 😕 You could try calling SmartStart, they always seemed very helpful.
@@MWorsa I am technically not allowed to disconnect, but I was told that when the device goes dark, I can disconnect it and SSI wouldn't find out about it. But im not playing that game. Did you store it any certain way? What about hot temps?
I have one in my car, it's a great system to prevent drinking and driving but needs lots of improvement. Lots of improvement!!!!!! Some people lost their lives and property due to not being able to move their car when need to, having someone else borrow their car etc. Just like anything else, they make up the laws first and then trying to make it better.
Kevin Chase Mine did not have GPS but I believe some do depending on the severity of your case. I had a restricted license but not on probation. I’m self-employed so my driving is never consistent and never had any issues. If you get pulled over would be another story though.
As far as Smart Start goes there is not GPS. If they wanted to know where you are, they'd give you an ankle bracelet. Some people who have time restrictions for work, the device has to have its clock manually programmed in, so it is an offline device. It only logs BrAC and time when blown into, nothing else.
Hey I got a question! You mentioned you have 3 minutes after u shut it off to turn it back on without having to blow again. Is that still true to this day? I just got mine. I need it for a year.
@@MWorsa that’s good to hear. Does the unit turn itself off sometime after the “restart” period finishes or is it always on? The LCD screen seemed to stay on for a long time after I parked for the day.

I'm having a hard time. I keep getting a blow longer message. Im blowing for 10 sec before I lose my breath I blow 5-10 times before I get a pass. 😔
K Lovett Take a deep breath (away from the mouth piece) and just blow and hum simultaneously with steady pressure, it takes a little getting used to. The second demo I do in this vid (5:40) nails it every time.
@ MIke Swirled or anyone else who finished this, how much was your total cost for using one of these in 1 year, including, addition cost add on, if you don't mind me asking? Some people said, it cost up ward of $15k total, just to finish this whole program? Which is insane amount of money to the point, there's a suspicion to it, I feel, though.
@@MWorsa Seems, like you didn't make many mistakes and had a plan to follow through with these device. Paying total of $1000s and $1000s of cost, seems insane from people I've heard using it. I just don't know who to believe. Anyways, you made a great video to watch out for. Thanks, for your input, though. I'll keep your words in mind. 👍😊
Question for you guys out there.... how much does this shit suck for someone you share a car with? For example, my boyfriend is getting this installed soon... I've been driving him around forever while he been on suspension so obviously we have one car and now I'll be using it as well.
For personal use? probably, as mandated by a court, I do not believe so, I was told to go to an authorized install and service shop. The unit itself doesn't cost you anything and the install was only $75 plus they need to calibrate it monthly as part of the program. Good luck.
Hey quick question, today the judge told me I needed to install one in my car in order to drive but it’s registered under my sister name would the auto shop notify her insurance if they installed the device??
TheKidtla It is my understanding that you only have to have it on vehicles registered to you, obviously if you get caught driving a vehicle without one, that becomes an issue. The install shop has no contact with the insurance company.
TheKidtla I think the only way that would happen is if you’re a listed driver on her insurance policy and they were made aware by DMV. My thinking is car insurance should go down if you have one installed but this of course is not how the world works, good luck.
In california its a requirement after your first DUI no exemptions….shit is no joke now.. i got a weed DUI and got to keep my license but had to do a 3 month AA program,,, shit was a COMPLETE joke…but everyone there either drove on a suspended or revoked license..most poor people cant afford all the fines and fees, and insurance hikes that come with it…but it is definitely an issue…people from all walks of life, young old,, smart dumb, professionals etc….its all a big racket...
MWorsa also. Will the court notify me when my suspension period is over? I just completed my 7 month suspension and still haven’t received any notification
thatchillkid07 You should have received all that info on your last court date at least I did. They told me all the conditions I would have to satisfy in order to get my unconditional license back.
MWorsa they only told me I had a 7 month suspension. I’ve meet all the requirements they asked of me at court. I’ve done the 7 months, I went to the alcohol classes, I paid all the fines, and I’m going to get the interlock next week. My concern is I haven’t heard anything about my suspension period being over. Do you know who I can call to find out?
Everyone is different. I drank a lot the day before and the next day about 13 hours later. I didn’t even drink water the whole time. So i wanted to go home and it failed. Locked me out for 15 minutes than i tried again and i failed again so it locked me out about an hour . I was worried. I didn’t attempt again. But i think 5 hours later i was good. I got it going. Better to be safe. Thanks for the video.
LUIBROWN17 Interesting after the second fail it didn’t go into a 4 day countdown to bring it in for “recalibration” which just means they reset it and charge you $75. At least that’s how mine was set up. Happened to me twice.
@@MWorsa whenever you have to go get it recalibrated because of a fail, do you go to jail? Or do you have options like pay a fine to the court or get it extended for a longer period of time?

@Michael Medley I just do not drive after a bevvie
Bro literally I’m getting mine in the am and I really needed to read this.....
@@ngarza813 hey man, it sucks but it will be out of your car before you know it, as long as you play your cards right. I don’t drink and drive anymore, I barely even drink.
What state are u in
Got my DUI in September, ill need an interlock for two years
I'm in Michigan ready for installation
Once I found out I could get one I had mine installed and my license reinstated within 2 weeks. Was not expecting it to be that quick. That being said it's a pain to use but not having a license is much worse.
@@tylerbonser7686 do you still have it ? In a 1st timer gettin mine installed tomorrow any tips ?
SuzieQ64 U You won comment of the month, safe travels.
AL O Only if it contains alcohol and even then unlikely.
F em. 🤣🤣
Thank you so much!!!!! I wouldn't have ever got my car started without you showing me how to hum a tune. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I had so many issues with the hum too. Keep saying not strong enough. I wasn’t told that you have to mouth “who”. First month having it in Australia 😔

I had my Smart Start interlock instilled about a month ago. My experience has been good. Over time a person should get better with using the device. In NC we do start up, rolling, and destination blows.
Destination blows? How does that work?
@@MWorsa when you get to where you need to be, you have to wait 2 minutes and blow to leave
K Lovett That’s a fantastic resolution, they truly are a great company, keep your chin up!
I GOT MINE REMOVED MAY 15 I WAS VERY IMPRESSED OVERALL NO PROBLEMS GREAT SERVICE AND SUPPORT IT IS NICE NOT TO HAVE IT THOUGH

I got this installed in my car yesterday thanks for the tip man, so as long it ask you to blow you’re good to go and unplug in winter, but what I start my car and it ask me that two minutes
After initial start up it will ask you to blow again within five minutes and about every 20 after that.
Thanks for the video. I'm about to have it for a year. So nervous!
artofvoice It goes by rather quickly as does life, you’ll be fine.
ME TOO NERVOUS IS FUCK I SWEAR
These are jus ways for the system to keep us broke. If all this bs helped everyone? There wouldn't be people with 6 duis. I've been around those ones. And they were drinking with no license and talking to me about how they did prison time over their 3rd and 4th dui lol.
Bro literally getting mine on for a year in the morning tomorrow....how are you?
😲

What about your regular insurance did it affect that ? I won’t tell but they might find out .. how much did it cost ?
@@frankmontez6853 State Farm dropped me because at the time you needed a form from your insurance to get i interlock. So I talked to an insurance broker and ended up getting cheaper insurance through Progressive.

If you're getting a lot of "blow longer"s or "hum stronger"s try humming at your lowest pitch.
its very hard to blow .... really very difficult
Thank you so much for this video. Is this one of the interlock which would prevent me from wearing perfumes or body mists? Cuz that would be a huge sacrifice.

Shanna K Def feels weird when you get it out and can just turn the key, congratulations!
@@MWorsa Lol, I've been sitting in my car till people walk away! You're absolutely right, thanks for the help! :)
I just got a smart start installed and I noticed that the light on the right will blink when the device has a message on the screen. This is a great video gives people a better understanding on how to blow. I am curious to know how much does the insurance goes up after they find out you have a DUI
Marleni Zapata About double 😏
It could be ridiculous....not just double...time would tell. I was given a conditional discharge which meant probation not guilty and no Criminal Record. My drivers abstract showed guilty even so. To get a discharge you have to plead guilty....It is a scam
Mine didnt go up nor was reported to my insurance. 1 lesson i learned throughout my ordeal. Is the one thing that's constant with prosecutors? They love to make deals. Remember the courts want to find the most easy amd cheapest way out of a court session. Especially if that court has backlogged cases pending.
I really like this video
I drove from upstate New York to OBX no problems 😃
Blow and go baby!
Thx again
As far as I can remember, it asks you about every 5 mins, then 10 mins, then 20 mins and possibly every 30 mins the longer you drive.
I feel your pain bro. I live in Australia and got mine for two years.... Its gonna suck...
Nathanmitchell1989 I have to say, it wasn’t all bad, really makes you more conscious of your decisions, kinda Pavlovian really.

@@MWorsa Thanks for that! You have like “Real Talk” on how to use this thing. It was comical. Makes it not seem so heavy.
Good luck! 🙂
I have smart start but it's only 2 min after turning car off so with the appointment saying I need to be there at 10:45am I have 4 days to show up?
Obsorb Evolve It should go into a 4 day countdown after your appointment and will actually display number of hours until it goes into lock mode, that’s how mine worked.
Wow, I have no idea how I will be able to pass bc of my breathing problem & having to use the valet service at the VA hospital in Richmond. I get mine installed in 4 days, man a year is a long ass time but I learned my lesson
It goes by fast, just like life.
If you stall your car do you have to blow again or can you just restart the engine
I believe you have like three minutes to restart your car without blowing again.
Ty for your help!!!

So you have to have a car to get this? What if I’m planning on getting my car after court dates.? Will I still be able to get this?
Youngndreckless If you’re planing to drive, yes. If your license has a restriction on it.
Thank you for the review !!!
I got one installed December 2020 - I have a few questions:
I think 12 months is standard. Probation is a different issue you just serve it
superb
Have u ever had warm up problems...like it takes 10 15 or even 20 mins for the device to warm up..before u can even blow n start ur car??? Ive heard someone say that
Danielle Bordeau Never anywhere near that extreme. Usual warm up usually took under 30 seconds except in cold temperatures below freezing then perhaps up to 2 minutes tops.
I got mine for 2 years cheaper to have than drinking since I can't drink I save money for the kid payment lol thanks man

Im finished with interlock now and saved over 8000 dollars not drinking i lost a lot of good time but saved a ton of money👌
were you allowed to move the camera up? or did they install it that high on your windshield?
TheEagle21221 I can’t tell you what to do, but I angled it up, still abided by all rules, just felt uncomfortable them catching me picking my nose.
So you could move the interlock camera to the upper most left of your windshield? Did they use some type of adhesive? Thanks for your quick response.
TheEagle21221 They installed right where it is in this vid, upper left corner of windshield, and yes, it’s held on with an adhesive disc.
How much does the installation cost? And how much is the monthly calibration?
For me installation was $75 and monthly calibration was $85.
Has this ever drained your battery or habe you had any trouble starting your car when you're sober?
No and no 🙂
Did you have any issues after the uninstalls of this System? I bought a Prius from a dude who got this system and it’s been having problems like randomly not starting at all. Like locked out. I am not sure what or where were the connections
yoyo Bored no issues whatsoever, it’s a simple plug and play system apparently, even had a repair shop bypass it once when I had my clutch replaced. The connection is under the dashboard somewhere.
MWorsa i see. But I think it’s different for a hybrid car but kind of similar. I hope it’s okay and I am starting to narrow down the issue to another part of the car. Hopefully that will be the last of my troubles! Thank you for the reply
amazing
Did you had to avoid certain food? And certain toothpaste?
Milton Deal I had no issues, it is recommended to not use mouthwash containing alcohol.
Thanks man. Very informative
So it tell you to blow even while you’re driving?
Edgar Ayala absolutely.
Do you have any issues with it draining the battery? Also how do you go get your car serviced if someone has to blow in it?
Larry Jr Also, my regular shop just had me drive it in myself for oil changes etc.
Smartstart suggests longer than 10 days may affect battery condition?
Are you allowed to drive a different car if you have one of these? I'm trying to decide if I want my lawyer to ask for this or the mobile one so any suggestions would be appreciated.
jmmyhayes You are allowed to drive any car as long as it has an IID.
Well that sucks. Thanks.
It goes into violock, you won’t be able to start your car right away and the 4 day countdown begins for you to get it “recalibrated”.
How many Retests could I expect for driving for an hour? When would they occur as a ballpark estimate
3-4 and after that maybe 2-3 the following hour.
Does this work on newer vehicles or just older models?
This unit basically interrupts the ignition wire and I'm pretty sure the installers said it works with newer keyless ignition models. You can call SmarStart to confirm (800) 831-3299.
I had one in a press start ignition 2014 Focus
The 20 min random tests do u have to pull over ?
It is recommended but you don’t have to.

TAKE THE BLOW IN DEVICE IN YOUR HOUSE AT NIGHT
I have one in my car, it's a great system to prevent drinking and driving but needs lots of improvement. Lots of improvement!!!!!! Some people lost their lives and property due to not being able to move their car when need to, having someone else borrow their car etc. Just like anything else, they make up the laws first and then trying to make it better.
Just take it easy......live each day as it comes........no booze.....should be no problem...just my thoughts
Thanks for this. About to put this bs in mine. And wanted to review which is the best and what people think......congrats
What about being on a restricted license and GPS. Will you get in trouble if you go somewhere other than work? Does it even have a gps? thanks!
I’m not sure the answer to that question, but I’m sure a SmartStart customer rep would be glad to help you. 🙂

@@taarguss I honestly can’t remember (been awhile) but, that little LCD screen wouldn’t draw hardly any power, it might have an auto sleep mode 🤷♂️.
😂 wow thanx for the tips in few days im about to find out if i need this....
Mirabel Lebarim Good luck! 🥳
Thank you
Did you get one
"It's like a CB"🤣
Great review, im going to need this on my car for two years. Great...
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess the second “great” was sarcasm 🤔
@@MWorsa yes I deserved this DUI
Get a breathalyzer from an electronics store...this will let you know if you will pass or fail the IID blow test

@@jimmybright1652 actually not really, I’m done with probation and wen I drink a dont drive for 8 hours and when I go to blow on the breathalyzer it turns on fine, lifesaver is the best system out there, I only need one year and 4 months left :)
This is my first DWi bac over.15 in Texas … how long do would it be stay in my car ? Thanks
Can’t necessarily speak for Texas but I had it in for one year.
I know someone only had it for 6 months
I had one of these install in my car last week & already locked out 💔… I’m trying to blow longer and it ask me to blow longer or even harder .. idk what to do cause I can’t get it to work help please 😢😢😢😢
See 5:37, try saying “who” as you blow, don’t try to blow to hard or you’ll run out of breath, blow steady.
Thanks Bro
I will try that trick. Ty
i just started mine im just grateful to get my L's back
Just wondering in you ever did a test and got a "warn", wondering how bad this would be with my PO.
The only time I got a warning was a false rolling blow read, was no issue for me. Immediately pulled over and called SmartStart and restarted no problem. Of course I was not on probation so I honestly couldn’t tell you. That was the only time in my one year I had the slightest issue with the device.
@@MWorsa Okidoki, ty! :)
Hey, what was the average warm up time for the device to start up so that you can blow?
Typically less than 10 seconds during mild temperatures. Around freezing and below it could be around 30 seconds.
When you're sitting there waiting it feels like forever.
Where I am they suggest taking the blowbox inside rather than leave it in the cold outside
@@MWorsa aint nothing like 10 seconds of staring at old McDonald's fries between the seats ! Lol thanks, my old unit would take 2-4 minutes. I will definitely be getting this one
Takes me about 5 minutes to start up the car while it’s heating and waiting for it to turn on
Roger that!
I don’t have a car but already got my interlock license. Do I have to put one in a car or can I wait out my year?
I believe it depends on where you live. Not driving for a year was an option for me, others have suggested otherwise.
In Alberta you have to have it installed for 1 year no matter how long you wait to get it
Just got mine installed Mon. And have to take it back in to get recalibrated because I blew in it too many times before I got a pass. It prompted a violation lock. Any tips on the blowing.
When you blow and hum try and make it sound like the word WHO....might make it easier?
its so hard to blow , that the bad thing, i cant even blow their requirements
and u have to blow 3 to 4 times its dangerous when u are in highway
Can you get your license revoked if you have 1st violation?
I believe that depends if you're on probation or not.
It was like $75 to install, $80/mo. for calibration and $75 to uninstall.
Laws might be different where I’m from but do you know if I can just install the machine and basically just not drive for a year
I believe I could have just given up my license for a year, seems every scenario is unique though.
In Alberta with Smart Start you have to drive a certain mileage every month
@@aobrathecobra so what if the car breaks down???
Question for you guys out there.... how much does this shit suck for someone you share a car with? For example, my boyfriend is getting this installed soon... I've been driving him around forever while he been on suspension so obviously we have one car and now I'll be using it as well.
BE CAREFUL SHARING......THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR HAVING THE DEVICE INSTALLED IS LIABLE FOR ANY VIOLATION
I’ve got more than one car so what car is used ?
All that are registered in your name. Plus, you’re not allowed to drive any car that doesn’t have one.
Thank you for this. Did you hide it at all? I am so nervous about people seeing it :(
At first I was a little shy about it but then you quickly realize everyone is in their own bubble. Blow away with confidence! 😃
Seriously, no one is paying attention to you and they don’t know you anyway, fuck it.
@@MWorsa Thank you for that. You're right, they don't. Now that I think of it, I have never seen or cared if anyone else has done it!

I saw this system for 150 bucks on ebay. Can i buy it and install it my self.
For personal use? probably, as mandated by a court, I do not believe so, I was told to go to an authorized install and service shop. The unit itself doesn't cost you anything and the install was only $75 plus they need to calibrate it monthly as part of the program. Good luck.
Can you blow .01 and still out pass?
There web site says a .025 is a fail, close to that is a warning but will still allow you to start your car. Better to just not chance it 🙂
Hey quick question, today the judge told me I needed to install one in my car in order to drive but it’s registered under my sister name would the auto shop notify her insurance if they installed the device??
TheKidtla It is my understanding that you only have to have it on vehicles registered to you, obviously if you get caught driving a vehicle without one, that becomes an issue. The install shop has no contact with the insurance company.
TheKidtla You of course are not supposed to drive ANY car without an IID if you have a conditional license with such a restriction.
MWorsa appreciate it man, I’m hoping they don’t because I don’t want the insurance to drop her or raise it.
MWorsa worst decision I ever made drinking & driving..
Can you drive and blow in it ? Or do you actually have to pull over ? Just got mine installed today. And it’s a headache to get the hang of it.
AYLIN VILLANUEVA Hum and blow simultaneously once you hear the tone.
AYLIN VILLANUEVA They suggest your pull over but you don’t have to, I did not.
MWorsa thank you!
AYLIN VILLANUEVA How’s it working out?
How do you know how long you need to have that in my car? I got a letter saying I need to install it but it didn’t say for how long
thatchillkid07 The court determines that.
Do you know who I can call to find out?
thatchillkid07 perhaps DMV.
Will mouthwash affect the reading?
One should avoid using alcohol based mouthwash just prior to blowing in this device.
Useful information getting mine Tuesday unfortunately
@@angelpaniagua6733 I think that depends on how severe your situation is, I was not on probation or anything so I just dealt with the install shop, nothing really happened legally for me, I’m sure it’s different for others.
Thanks for the tips. Just got mine 😭 so frustrating 😢
You got it to go?
Eventually, after several attempts. I was so nervous, just wanted to get home
A nice safety feature, car thieves often drink at work😉
I never received the DUI. I had a B card violation from 18 years ago and had alcohol on my breath well below the legal limit but the state of Minnesota is hanging me. I have intoxalock and it is completely horrible. I haven't been able to start my vehicle in 3 days because of weather. It's cold here. I'm looking for something that works when it's below zero out. Any information I would love please help me,!!!!!!
I had no issues in upstate NY during winter other than extended warm up time. There’s a guy in the comments from Canada that had one, he brought his handset in at night (I was told I couldn’t do that). SmartStart should work where you live.
@@MWorsa I can take it inside at night but then I have to sit in my truck when it's 14 below zero and wait for it to reset for 10 minutes while I'm freezing my ass off and half the time it doesn't work. And for the The last 3 days have done troubleshooting with the people that don't speak English and have had no luck , Glad you got rid of yours. I don't deserve mine. I did not receive a DUI.
