Well explained. Love that she always works from a need to help us to be safe. Super simple and easy to follow. Thanks Heidi for demystifying how to make and why to do it the way you show.🥰
So happy I watched this. Pinterest is most definitely a hit and mostly miss source of info but your education is so appreciated. Hope you’re feeling better 🍵
My mom picked me up a “sick room” spray. It has colloidal silver in it. The colloidal silver kills pathogens in a healthy way. It also had white sage in it, and I added some frankincense EO. Do you have any thoughts about working with colloidal silver?
I know many people swear by it, although I've never used it. The veterinarian I took my Animal Aromatherapy Specialist certification training from likes it for her animals, too.
Hi, Betty! Yes, absolutely! Just be sure it's at least 150 proof, and 190 proof is better. If you go with 150 proof, I suggest adding about a teaspoon more alcohol for a 4 ounce bottle.
Hi Heidi, I was unable to understand the name of the last essential oil you used in your room or linen spray. Could you please let me know the name? Thank you, Deby
Hi Deby---It's been over a year, I think, since I made this video....Can you try CC, and then comment again with the spelling if you can't make it out? I'm sure I can figure which one it was...
Hi, Kate! Yes, it would apply to bug spray recipes if you want them to be properly preserved. For our own home personal use, I don't worry about preservation so much as it's just me and Joe and I shake well because we go through it SO fast in the summer time due to the wasps.
Hi, Karin---You can still actually use 80 proof alcohol, but you'll need to make adjustments to the recipe so you have 25% alcohol in the final product. For a 4 ounce bottle, you would need 2.5 ounces of 80 proof alcohol and 1.5 ounces of water minus the essential oils. I hope that helps!
Depending on your state laws, you might be able to purchase it in a grocery store or liquor store. If not, you can purchase it online. I like www.extractahol.com (not an affiliate---I just like that I can get organic 190 proof)
Hi. Thanks for the great information. But if I understand correctly you are ending up with a 25% alcohol solution for the preservation. So is the reason we can't use 80 proof (40% alcohol) with more alcohol and less water to still get to 25% in the final product the fact that we need the full strength to solubilize the essential oils? I have access to 190 proof and will do so but was just curious as to the why. And yes I guess I had followed some recipes where it used half 80 proof or witch hazel and half water - I have now thrown out the contents - don't want to make anyone sick. It was only for my person use.
Hi, Laura! Thanks for the comment, and I believe you(?) may have given us the mathematical formula in the Herbally Accomplished Chat today so that we have 25% alcohol even if we're using 80 proof alcohol. So glad you brought this up! In case this isn't you, here you go: For a 4 ounce amount of room spray, you could use 2.5 ounces of 80 proof vodka and 1.5 ounces water minus the amount of essential oil you're using. :--)

Love your videos. Thank you
Thanks for watching!💖
Hi Loved the video and you. I do not have patchouli or cinnamon what other essential oil can I substitute?
What are the percentages broken down of each product?
Hi, Heidi. What's the usual dilution for linen sprays? 4-5%? Can we go higher?

Hi Heidi, is ever-clear a strong enough alcohol to use for this recipe?

@@HeidiVillegas Perfect! I just found 151 proof everclear which is the highest proof that can legally be sold in our state.

50 drops of tangerine or mandarin
20 drops of orange
20 drops of cinnamon leaf
20 drops of patchouli

Hi Heidi!
Does this concept also apply to homemade bug spray with EOs?
I'm also interested in homemade laundry detergent recipes, if you have them!

Hi I am living in New Zealand and cannot buy 190 proof ethanol. Something else I can use perhaps?

so like a 90% rubbing alcohol won't work?
Hi, Becca! It would work technically, but honestly it would NOT smell very good.
