    To be honest more people are going to look into Plini after the Doja Cat performance, that's prog metal being put right in the spotlight which doesn't happen often if at all.

      Yes. I was never even angry that they used it. I was angry that they did not even ask plini's permission. Now that it has million views and much criticism THEN they actually start trying to right the wrong. Well better late than never

      @@chadmarx7718 this song has more views than the Doja cat song, also they’re both different enough for them not to involve plini the arranger gave him credit and said he meant for it to sound like plini they already gave him credit for that part and plini wasn’t the only one that inspired the arrangement that doja did

      @@eVoxlilbigslash dude i hope you realize that a million views in 4 years is completely different from a million views in 2 days and a half.
      With that being said I think I agree that the "stolen bit" was way too short compared to the full song to even ask for permission.
      Artists quote other artists they like all the time, the real problem was that after being called out and admitting he took the riff idea from Plini, he doubled down and mocked him with another post. So not a professional behavior at all

    does the song sound similar yes, do that mean doja intentionally copied it? no. If you take into account that music, mathematically, has a number of different ways you can put measures together with factors there are bound to be similarities. I'm also betting Doja didn't write the guitar solo, considering she didn't play it. so I guarantee she wasn't trying to intentionally copy. My bet is a writing team came up with something for the performance, based off doja's idea, and someone who was on the writing team had heard this song before and it was just in their head subconsciously when they were writing the guitar part it doesn't mean she was stealing it, but in that case they should give credit. She had a good performance.

      yeah like the guy commented, but also it is kind of obviously influenced by Plini and not just coincidence. The Rhythm could be coincidence, but the ending phrase sounds exactly like handmade cities too which together with the similar rhythm gives it away.

    People : “i hear no similarities between this and Dojas song”
    Some of you need a lesson in selective listening. the bass line is more for note in Doja cats song, and if they had actually released the song and tried to profit off it, would be grounds for legal action.

    • @samplesn
      @samplesn 3 роки тому +1

      This right here is the truth.
      One could make the case for the baseline. The connecting notes between the major chords are awfully similar.
      The entire rhythm section and chord progression because staccato crunchy guitar? not so much... Would need to go back to early 80s metal to find the progenitor of that. Plini doesn't own that IP.
      Some other thoughts to ponder-
      Katy Perry Dark Horse - co writer/Producer **Dr Luke** : Flame Joyful noise
      Doja Cat Say So - co writer/Producer **Dr Luke** : Plini Handmade Cities
      We sure we are barking up the right tree here? Just coincidence?

    • @Terminusz
      @Terminusz 3 роки тому

      @@samplesn the bassline is what was stolen, end of story-we dont need to even talk about the rhythm section. doja and her band have both apologized to plini publicly and personally, so i would ask you to do the same and ponder if an apology is required, they were probably doing something wrong.

    • @samplesn
      @samplesn 3 роки тому

      @@Terminusz
      Maybe an apology is required but it is meaningless to come from Doja cat.
      If plagiarism occurred it will be found in the original non-metal version also. Which I think is supported when one listens to the baseline there. I think you and I are on the same page that the rhythm guitar and rhythm section in general are not what the issue is here but I would say a lot of other people seem to disagree with that.
      If Plini is going to claim this then he needs to gather the courage and go after who really stole his IP.
      I don't think anyone believes Doja cat herself came up with the metal arrangement used for this version.
      Dr Luke co wrote and produced the original version with the baseline lifted from Plini.
      The very same Dr Luke who co-wrote Dark Horse (Katy Perry) which also lifted a hook from a relatively unknown artist (Flame).
      I'm glad Doja cat apologized because it shows she takes her art at least a little seriously.
      We are starting to identify a trend here with Dr Luke however. He appears to "data mine" relatively unknown artists for riffs and hooks and incorporates them into his work and makes a ton of money doing so and never gets called out directly.
      And I can understand Plini's hesitation in calling out Dr Luke after the whole drama between Dr Luke and Kesha. But I also think it's a bit disingenuous to call out Doja cat only. And I am just guessing here but I figure the talks between Plini and Doja involved a bit more than just the two artists.
      The truth is it took this metal version for all of us to notice the plagiarism of the base melody and rhythm, but it has always been there.

      it starts at 0:20, before that it's straight 4/4. you can hear the quintuplets pretty clearly at 1:10 and 3:09. at 3:28 it switches back to straight 4/4 (not in quintuplets). at 4:06... it's doing some kind of polymeter, sounds mainly like 5/8 but the clean guitar continues the same chord pattern it was doing before, which is in 4/4 (heard clearly at 0:00). actually, i think the riff is built around that clean guitar pattern so i'd say it's still 4/4.
