    My apologies for the bad sound quality in places. I had a bit of a microphone malfunction 😂

    Seeing all these lovely reds, I regret that I don’t enjoy painting flowers. I have the cad red light and the permanent carmine, but I wouldn’t mind having the cad red deep and the perelyne maroon, not that I need them.
    Looking forward to the next one

      I have recently learnt that cadmium reds are great for mixing rich greys and I can confirm this. This might be an idea to use them.

      They have quite a big selection of reds. Perfect for flower painters.

    That lovely Escoda Perla brush is being put through its paces again!
    I don't have many Schmincke Horadam paints. In your swatching session here, the only one I have is the gorgeous, albeit fugitive, Alizarin Crimson. I might have to try the Perylene Maroon when my reds get depleted - which might take a couple of years 😂
    My favourites here are the following:
    Cadmium Red Light
    Vermilion
    Perylene Maroon
    Alizarin Crimson
    Madder Lake Deep
    Rose Madder

    Not a big red person-but I'd go with the Transparent Red Deep. You are definitely the best swatcher on UA-cam. Would love to see you do all your granulating colors since they're the thing right now. That could be a lot-I'd be pleased with just the blues,teals & turquoises. Need to purchase some & I rely on your swatches.

      The PR144 is the one I keep looking at, too. It isn't a pigment I am very familiar with but it looks really lovely here.

    My favourites are Transparent Red Deep and Ruby Red - I also have Saturn Red if I need a warmer red. This was very helpful as I’m looking for another red to add to a new palette I’ve got - I like the look of Perylene Dark Red and Bordeaux…

    Thats quite a few reds. Schmincke certainly has some very different pigment choices along with the staples. Im not sure any of these really jumped out at me, even though I love many of their paints. Maybe I would have a different opinion in person. Thanks for another lovely swatching session. 😆👍👏👏👏

      You're very welcome 🙏 Schmincke definitely has a lot of reds and greens in their range. I quite like the fact that they use some different pigments ☺️

    I tend to prefer cooler reds leaning more towards magenta. I find that it's easier to warm up a cool red then to make a warm red cooler! That's my tip if you like doing a lot of colour mixing. You tend to get cleaner mixes.

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 роки тому +1

      Yes that makes good sense. I see many artists who use a limited palette tend to have a cool red rather than a warm one.

    I like watching you swatch colours. So many of these reds were very much in the orange spectrum. The reds were not very vibrant when dry. I don’t know whether I would add any to my palette. I’m a beginner so my preferences may change . Thank you very helpful. ✨🎨

      I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Yes the group of reds are very much orange leaning but they are technically red. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏

    I do like some Schminke colors but the drying shift is very strong in general. I likewise thought that the transparent red deep was the best and I might try it since I use a lot of transparent colors. Thanks!😊

      @@JayNathanWatercolor sorry for my late reply mr. jay, busy studying graphic arts and finding another job at the same time here in the philippines😅...... I wish too. I think, it depends on the company who makes it. This is what other brands told about PR83:"Rowney claim it is `normally permanent' and Winsor & Newton `moderately durable'. Daniel Smith call it like it is and list Alizarin Crimson PR83 as`fugitive'.".......Same!...i like it so much. And i also love permanent alizarin crimson😊..... Specially permanent alizarin crimson of holbein...

    I like Da Vinci's perylene maroon. I recently got some Holbein paints to try out. Too bad I didn't get the perylene maroon. lol I'll add that to my list for later. I have only done a quick swatching so far but I like them.

    Most of the whole top row were too orange to be classed as a red for my liking. I usually like Schmincke paints but they all seemed a bit dull once dried. They seemed like they had little vibrancy. Thank you I enjoy watching at comparisons

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 роки тому

      You're welcome ☺️ The swatches might be a bit less vibrant as I'm swatching from a tiny amount of paint on a dot card. If I had the actual tubes I could use a lot more paint.

    The Quin rose from Daniel Smith doesn’t have the drying shift of Ruby red. I really like the transparent red deep likewise.

    Hi Jay! I hope you are well 😃. Many of the reds come across as being a bit brown. Are they actually brownish in real life? PR254, for example, is usually stronger and more vibrant in other brands. Very good video, though. I love these swatching videos; they help me see the differences between the paints. In this case, the two PV19 at the very end - they are remarkably different considering theey are using the same pigment - well, at least the same pigment number.

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 роки тому

      It's probably the lighting and differences between screens that makes them look brownish.
      The PV19s are very different but both very nice too.

    Interesting that they all seem so weak when dried, and I see I'm not the only person to think that. I am assuming you are swatching from dots sent by a viewer? Reds do have a HECK of a drying shift though. I have Geranium Red, Permanent Carmine, Cad Red Deep and Perelyne Maroon. When I got those last two, they had looked amazing on the dotcard. I learned my lesson - double check on real watercolor paper -- when they arrived they were so weak when I swatched my cards! I tried again with a very high paint concentration and painted my gradient wet on dry, instead of wet on wet, and got an acceptable result. I am actually thinking of using lift aid or heavily sized paper so it won't soak in so much.
    The Schmincke Perelyne Maroon is beautiful, but not a typical example of the color. It's usually deeper and duller. It's so close to the Cad Red Deep, I really shouldn't have bought both! I also love the Transparent Red Deep, it's on my wishlist.

    Madder red dark mixes well. magenta as well, exp, when one want's to mix violetts. but there is another one for that. somehow I don't remember right now.... it is late ;-D (not only for violetts. other mixes as well. but the violetts get very nicely clear with these)

    I like Bordeaux. Pronounced ( Bordough ) but this type of Napthole is not that great in being light-fast. I tested mine in a south facing window during long day season for 7 months. It faded way too much. Thanks so much! Schmincke is still my go to brand, along with W&N and Holbein.
