The reason for all the lavish bedrooms, office space and kitchens is because it wasnt really just a house. But rather an extension of the company itself. Robert Plaster was known for holding rather lavish corporate retreats and events there. Even allowed some of his most trusted employees to work out of there as a sort of vacation. The reason for the property's downfall was his failed attempt to turn the grounds into an incorporated community which was against state law, and his death. You guys are very lucky to get to see the inside I have always wondered myself what it looked like. Thanks for the video.
How funny. I worked for Bob Plaster in the early 1980’s in Lebanon, Missouri. Empire Gas was the name of his Company. There were rumors about him in town that made him out to be an undesirable man. I met him at the Company Christmas parties and he was always kind to me. Strange that I stumbled across this video - a blast from the past.
If I had the backing I'd buy it for 75,000000 and turn it into a secluded get away for the wealthy. I should get a return in 2 years. I'd just change the phones and Tvs. Hire 8 around the clock employees. Most of the income will go to electric, maintenance, and 2 good chefs to custom cook for the customers.
Why does he keep saying "from the 90's"? I wouldn't be able to tell what era the couches, and everything else is from. What difference does it make? It's all very over the top opulence.
It's crazy how much things have changed from the 90s to now and how many thoughts I've had in the last 20 years so you think about when people were walking through this or these people who own this what they were thinking with all that money and that style at that time
Exactly what I was thinking. Even though it’s privately owned, I wouldn’t consider this a home or “mansion”. It was clearly styled and designed as an entertainment location for his clients rather than something you live in daily.
An old folks home or medical service facility. It's already has the helipad for medivac... Sad how some waste the money they spent their lives chasing. Only satan.
My dream house is actually a one room primitive cabin, with a stone fireplace, a rocking chair, my beautiful wife of 27 years, a faithfull dog, a hunting rifle over the mantle, fishing poles on a rack, a fishing canoe outside on 250 acres of wilderness far from civilization and near a pristine lake.
Seca and cameras all over the place though. If it was a normal unmonitered abandoned site, most New Wave Urbex smashcrews would been busting up crap like there's no tomorrow. All conveiently off camera, of course!
Those Evergreen Logos are fugly. What a huge waste of good money. Nothing like using your money to help others. Somebody hurt his little feelings, so he had to overspend and create this monstrosity. Pitiful. Money does not make the man after all.
Loving the green marble but when I saw the thumbnail (found video randomly) I thought, okay, cool, another historic relic of some company's office HQ in a scenic spot that probably became abandoned as the company changed, failed, or went WFH. In reality, wow, was shocked to learn that this is a home! Like other comments yeah, uncanny valley of corporate office building / mall, and home but not *too* insanely tacky IMO as far as kitsch goes I think. Obviously feels more like a corporate retreat or a place that was equal parts home and business office. Interesting design for sure. thanks for touring and being respectful of the property.
I framed houses in the Atlanta area for over 20 years. I helped build some of the largest, most insane and expensive custom homes you'd ever imagine. Many had elevators, some had a pool or tennis court under the house. One house had a bridge to the front door, another had a stone FP in the MBR you could see through to the MB and one had a 10+ person jacuzzi in the basement with a waterfall flowing into it. I could go on and on about all the really awesome homes I've had a hand in building but none come close to this place. I understand from other comments this wasn't built as a residence but as a corporate property. I don't care, it's absolutely awesome. If I owned it I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks for sharing such a unique and wonderful place, I really enjoyed watching.
I love the house too, especially the seclusion away from everybody is like you are living in your own paradise, who won't want that? I will only change a few of the decor, but the house itself is livable and beautiful.
I'm actually in the Atlanta area been here 20 plus years and I'm interested in hearing more of your stories. let me know would love to reach out to you ok Facebook and Instagram. I'm in the same profession
That place definitely has the appearance of a mall when you enter the building. As you walk through sections of the building, it makes you think, is it a home, a mall, a office building, or all of the above. That place is gorgeous. So clean too.
More new malls were built in 1990 than any other year in history so it makes sense the language made it into other buildings, every architect and their brother was designing malls in 1990.
When I watch these AMAZING videos, I can't help but wonder... the laughter, and the joy that happened in the house. The sadness and stress, worries and accomplishments, and then one day, one day... something happened and the house is abandoned and left completely at a standstill in time!!! It is such a crazy and deep feeling to think...
My thoughts exactly. This screams 80s not 90s. Looks like an office building turned into a home. Aside from replacing all the outdated tech and appliances and updating basically everything, a reno would need to completely gut the interior because that green marble and gold trim is never coming back. I don't see any benefit to buying this place except to demolish it for the location.
Despite the building’s design style / furnishings being dated, the impeccable level of maintenance and overall condition of the “finishes” are almost unbelievable for its age. 👍🏻
Yep. Very dated and tacky. However I agree. The condition is actually great for 30 year old furniture. And it wouldn't do it justice to upgrade and get rid of it. Plus it would be way too expensive to redo the entire house. The furniture was made to match it. It should stay perfectly preserved.
Was Robert W. Plasters house. He started a gas company in 1963 called Empire Gas, (was listed on the NYSE - he sold it in 1996). it doesn't double as a panic room. in a house that big nothing doubles as anything. the door is bullet proof because its a SHOOTING RANGE. its a safety feature
The viewpoint of the camera guy was immature on many points. He’s just not familiar with building/architectural design and the reasons for it, I have to assume.
This whole place is a time capsule for an era that's no more. Everything is this place is right out of an early 90's blockbuster movie and I love all of it!
I really adore this place! But I can see how it's not a home and more of an amazingly fancy office lol. But it could easily be made into a home because it's so absolutely stunning! I'm trying, but I just can't imagine anyone living there. It's a corporate museum and spa in one. It's odd that it's built on a beautiful lake and they did everything that they could to insulate it from nature, The materials are definitely expensive and the statues are worthy of being in a museum as well. I'm not a huge fan of the exterior, looks like an office building. But the interior of this house is so unbelievably beautiful, it gives me such strange nostalgia as it so perfectly matches what was considered luxurious during the 90's. So preferable to drab modern styles. Its so incredible how the main atrium is all centered on that grand piano, it literally seems almost divine, like this is one of those Bible-mansions we were promised in heaven If I were to spend 80 million on a house, I'd build a house for 80 million so its exactly my preferences. But this... my jaw dropped when I saw that phone. So amazing
its bc it is an office building, an office building that the man also lived at. thats why they need a 20 car garage for the employees. its very misleading to call it a mansion. its an office building

I know it looks cold and inhospitable to a lot of people but I've always had a thing (especially when I was a kid) for '80s/'90s glass corporate buildings, with their clean sharp lines, glossy surfaces, and minimalist style. Maybe it's partly the nostalgia speaking, but I'd love to stay here.
I'm with you. I love the period use of stark color contrast like the pink and green. The sharp architecture does it for me too. Everything is tacky at some point before nostalgia makes it cool again. Remember Art Deco went by the wayside too even though in hindsight it is utterly beautiful and the craftsmanship admirable. I like the 80's style for it's simplicity and seemingly undisturbedness.
It reminds me a lot of “home alone” movies style, if u know what I mean, not just the style but the VIBE and feel, I was born in ‘89, so I was pretty much a baby when that happened but the memories and feelings are fresh !!! Like sea waves 🌊 come to my mind, it was just TOO cozy everything back then right ? Even if it was mall or office style, you just felt cozy, like raining outside or something at 7pm, I don’t know how to explain, with some of those “aesthetic”’ songs from the early 90’s in the background, or Enya “sail away”, it might not look as minimal as today’s standards but today’s architecture isn’t as cozy as the 80’s early 90’s was........ you could just lay down anywhere and watch tv, it was PURRFECT, cause it wasn’t the 70’s kinda boring but also not the 2000’s yet, so perfect and minimalistic it lacks comfort and family vibe....... i might have been 6 years as much but I remember it very nicely Kinda like this ua-cam.com/video/xYQrPsyu-1s/v-deo.html
I think this place has more potential as Air bnb. The staging is gorgeous and I like the themed rooms. But it is lacking a sense of warmth. Really sad that the owner died and couldn't have friends or family to fill it. The phones cracked me up. It could pass a dated look until you see the phones and monitors. A celebrity should buy it. It suits their flashy not to cozy lifestyle.
When I was a kid, we used to take our boat all the way up the lake just to oogle this place. It always reminded me of a rich cartoon villains lair. We called it “Evergreen”

I agree with most of the comments. This house definitely has a mall or hotel feeling to it but if it will ever be filled with personal stuffs and noise from people who would live there it will definitely feel more homey and warm. Totally agree with you.
Should 've shown underground floors + the dungeons

It's crazy how much things have changed from the 90s to now and how many thoughts I've had in the last 20 years so you think about when people were walking through this or these people who own this what they were thinking with all that money and that style at that time
Someone should buy it and turn it into an exclusive - very exclusive - resort. After all, that's what it looks like.
Exactly what I was thinking. Even though it’s privately owned, I wouldn’t consider this a home or “mansion”. It was clearly styled and designed as an entertainment location for his clients rather than something you live in daily.
I thought it looks more like an hotel.
Exactly my thoughts
My thoughts exactly when I was watching the video I mean you can probably get 10 grand a night for the rooms
Not worth the 80million investment for a 11 room mansion!
This place should be bought & turned into a museum & art gallery location for the public, it would definitely draw crowds.
Can I come?
I live that every day, just 15 acres instead of 250.
Yes mine too. Great wealth does not need to be monetary.
NOW THAT'S LIVING!!
I couldn't help noticing that you referred to the dog as "faithful" and your wife as "beautiful"
Love how respectful these guys are of the property. Literally keeping their voice down even though nobody’s there :)
No that’s not respectful, they are being over dramatic and the added heavy breathing made it just about unwatchable.

In reality, wow, was shocked to learn that this is a home!
Like other comments yeah, uncanny valley of corporate office building / mall, and home but not *too* insanely tacky IMO as far as kitsch goes I think. My dream house.
Exactly
LMAO!
Yessss indeed! Don’t change a damn thing.
I love the house too, especially the seclusion away from everybody is like you are living in your own paradise, who won't want that? I will only change a few of the decor, but the house itself is livable and beautiful.
While i love it too , i would change some of the Colors and Furniture.
I like it for its intended use, not as home....
I'm actually in the Atlanta area been here 20 plus years and I'm interested in hearing more of your stories. let me know would love to reach out to you ok Facebook and Instagram. I'm in the same profession
Absolutely beautiful and stunning. I love the uniqueness of this house. Only wish I could afford something like this.
That place definitely has the appearance of a mall when you enter the building. As you walk through sections of the building, it makes you think, is it a home, a mall, a office building, or all of the above. That place is gorgeous. So clean too.
Offices
AN office would be correct, an apple, an elephant, an iceberg, etc.
More new malls were built in 1990 than any other year in history so it makes sense the language made it into other buildings, every architect and their brother was designing malls in 1990.
Mix an office and a resort hotel, and you get this corporate retreat.

I don't see any benefit to buying this place except to demolish it for the location.
that's because it is

The 90’s were not that long ago.
30 years is not „for its age“, especially not when it comes to houses. Are you a child?
dated furnishing? the fuck?
Yep. Very dated and tacky. However I agree. The condition is actually great for 30 year old furniture. And it wouldn't do it justice to upgrade and get rid of it. Plus it would be way too expensive to redo the entire house. The furniture was made to match it. It should stay perfectly preserved.

@@sarahlundgren3358 im sorry to hear that about your situation. May God bless you with swift recovery, good health & may He ease your difficulties and grant you success both in this world and the Hereafter.
Stunning home. It's so interesting to see all the different kinds of tastes out there. This felt like walking around a 90s villan's evil lair. 🔥🤩
Even if I have the money I will never buy this house, I can imagine how scary it will be at night time, I think this is the perfect place for Dracula
Or a few members of the global elite and a couple young Asian boys.
@@Deenihan18 Probably true (sadly)!😒 That Rams room tells you everything you need to know...
@@ksp-crafter5907 I was thinking the same thing with all of those!
Perfect for Dracula? Not with all of those mirrors and reflective surfaces.
One wonders what really happened to this person. I'm thinking Illuminati all the way. The ram room and the China room. Ugh. Creepy. I wouldn't want the place. It feels cold, no warmth. Also, one wonders what happened here, as the above comment alluded to. That kids room seemed like for girls.
For future reference the bathrooms didn't have two toilets, one is called a Bidet for washing yourself after using the toilet. They are very popular in France
I think most people know what a bidet is lol
@@alextric2812 I was about to say, but still nice that he explained :)
He did call them "double toilets".
@@alextric2812 You might think so but a guy l know thought it was a foot bath.LOL

Nothing says early 90s like a peach chiffon pool table. When I was kid I would imagine what it would be like living in the mall...now I know.
LOL
Agree I'm not impressed. Looks like decorations on a ship .
@Patty Nielsen 😂😂😂👍🏽👍🏽
The green marble is beautiful but I remember in the 1990s when I was the thing. I love the Terrazzo floors and the marble animals.
Me too!
This is beautiful and huge place to see, thanks for the video.
Maybe I’m biased but I LOVE this place, I love the whole 80s/early 90s era, I get what some people are saying but this was a live in office building so that’s why it looks like this . I wouldn’t live here necessarily but it would be a source of MAJOR inspiration.
They need to turn it into a hotel/resort/spa.

@Kelly Scott
Heaven *forbid* you should ever get food poisoning! You'd have to just turn on the TV in the bathroom and live th er e for the next day or so, LOL!

Thank you for this video! I’ve grown up in Springfield, MO and spent all my summers at the lake - driving by on boat looking up at this mansion wondering what the inside looks like! So nice to have that curiosity cured!
Thank you for watching!!
Best one ever. Love it. The Green marble is gorgeous.
Bruh someone needs to film a movie there that is based in the 90’s right freaking now!
Maybe the Cartels headquarters from Netflix show Ozark should film here.
Omg yes !!!!!!!!
a lot of producers have requested beforehand
80 million and not one decent, luxurious shower. The entire place looks like a cold, converted office building.
