In today’s episode we venture down south to an abandoned white marble mansion that to me resembles the White House in Washington DC. Built in 1983 by a man we’re going to call Mr.K. He was originally from Poland and moved to Canada in the 1950s with dreams of actually working in the United States. And he accomplished his dream moving to Alabama and starting up a hotel business that was very successful! In the 1970s he and his wife moved into a home that used to sit where the mansion sits now. They had planned on renovations and adding on to the other house but became an issue because of the extensive work the house needed. So in 1983 they tore down their house to rebuild their dream home. With Mr.K being from Europe and his wife being from Alabama they both had certain styles that they loved. And that’s how the design of this mansion came about. The mansion features 12,000 square feet of living space, 2 pools with one of them being indoors, well over 30 chandeliers, and a 2000 sqft master bedroom. Not to mention the crazy amount of marble and ornate trim above each entry way. In 2006 Mr.K passed away at the age of 93 and the mansion was sold off. The owner ship of the mansion changed several times until 2008 when the house was winterized and no one ever moved back in. So join us today and let’s see what’s left

@@FallacyAsPraxis The thing that people spend the most on in their life is their residence and virtually everyone overspends no matter how big it is and they spend most of the rest of their lives paying for it. These people had money, enough to build a house beyond YOUR reach and likely paid for it in cash or something close to that. It is hard to get a mortgage on hugely expensive homes that banks deem hard to sell. So it likely was within the means of the buyer at the time - too bad you cannot afford it. Sour Grapes
Well, the couple kept it up-- it was only after he died in 2006, according to the video, that ownership changed-- several times. The problem is that the upkeep expenses on such a large property are exorbitant-- and anyone who bought it would likely want to update the obvious 80s decor since it looks as if nobody changed anything from the initial build 23 years prior to his death.

In highschool, a kid in our orchestra had a party at his house for all the band & orchestra students - they had an indoor & outdoor pool both! It was just really neat! As a kid , at the time I was so envious.
Later in my life I lived in a 5000 square foot home on the ocean, I do know now, that if I had means, I wouldn’t live in a HUGE HOUSE ever again. When you can’t hear what’s going on in other parts of the house, it’s really kind of creepy. And it’s a TON of work to maintain. IF i get rich, I’ll live in “ nice” but not “big”! A place that big means you got a lot of people around to maintain it/ no privacy , no thanks. Jmo . I've always felt the same way about owning a yacht. Once it's over 50 feet, you have to have a crew to operate it. Who wants that intrusion on your privacy? At least in a house this big, "the help" can live on the other end of the house on the side where the kitchen is located.

Just a tip. The circular “moldings” around the chandeliers on the ceilings are called Medallions. The birds in the glass are birds of paradise. ❤

Beautiful! So nice the owners gave you permission to video and share with us. I love the pool areas but the whole house is spectacular. Lots of ideas on what they can do with this place before it falls into disarray. Great video!

Many thanks to the kind owner for letting you share this magnificent house with us. .I can't even imagine what it looked like in it's prime! I pray it will be restored to it's full potential in the years to come.
Imagine, being 60+ years old. After recently becoming, obviously, very well off. You decide to build a home for you and your wife. And this is what you envision. This home was meant to be a symbol of what he had accomplished in his life. Also being in his 60’s during construction led to the entire home being built on a single story floor plan. I just couldn’t fathom living out my golden years in such a home. This would be the way to say, look at what I was able to do. Not in a arrogant way, but in a way that is to be honored. I don’t know who the owner was but it’s always Amazing to see what sone people are capable of accomplishing in their lives. Our lives are so short. To amass such a fortune that is capable of constructing such a beautiful home. Hats off to mr K
If he died in 2006 at 93 and it was built in 1983 then he was 70. Wouldn't that tub and marble floors be dangerous for someone 70 to 93. The guest rooms were tiny and the kitchen n other bathrooms were underwhelming. Overall the rest of the mansion is stunning. It was built in 1983 so not surprised the kitchen is so dark. I was expecting it to be beautiful and white with marble.
They do it for the woman in their lives. Men only want a comfortable place to live.
he built the house out of greed if he wanted to be remembered he could of used the money to help people with the money it took to build this home in the 80s he probably could of built a 100 homes on 50 or so acres and gave em away to the homeless
If I was a millionaire and wanted to accomplish something in life to leave as a memory of me I absolutely would not waste my money on something like all millionaires do I would live a simple life and help everyone that I possibly could then your memory would never die and I would leave this world not regretting NOTHING and be happy that I could help a lot of people. That's just the way I am . Heaven has more to offer than anything in this world has . ❤❤

I found your channel the other day and really enjoy seeing these homes and imagining what they were like before being abandoned. I also appreciate the history/background you give in the beginning of each video. It would be really awesome if you could find photos of these mansons in all their glory and show those at the end of each video! That would be so cool!! I worked on the burglar alarm system at this house, the people who owned it were very nice and always enjoyed going there
Please tell us who they were so we can look up the house while it was furnished.
If he installed the burglar alarm system on the original owners, I doubt there are any photos. The mansion was originally built in the early 80’s, but the original owners went bankrupt in 1990, and they don’t live near the town the house is located in anymore.
It needs a roof with a pitch on it. Flat roofs tend to leak too often. My workplace is ALWAYS fighting water leaks. I would LOVE to have a kitchen like that!! Those walk-in closets are awesome! Gorgeous!! My whole house will fit in the master bedroom 🤣

I agree don't know why anyone would have a flat roof the water just sits there.
I prefer flat roofs. You just need to know how to do it right. There are many gable roofs with leak issues if not properly maintained. Flat should not necessarily mean no slope.
It’s beautiful but looks lonely and cold. I couldn’t imagine living there and being happy even with the two pools.

A upscale assisted living. Yes. It is beautiful. I hope they do sell off the marble and chandeliers if they are not going to fox it up I hate the thought of kids getting in there and busting up things and spraying with graffiti.
I hoped they had many wonderful memories.
You can tell the original owners loved this mansion and had it how they wanted it. It's so sad to see how it has been left.
Just discovered your channel. One thing I love about you is how respectful you are of the families/previous owners' homes. You keep it clean. The two pools can also work for when they have big events/ parties with many people. Or separate the old people from the young people when its family events😅😅😅

It's a shame cause it's just been sitting for year's and deteriorating so fast. It would be wonderful if someone could do something with it cause it has lots of potential.
I saw the thumbnail and knew exactly where this was.
As a college student, I saw it for the first time in the late 80s.
I have lived or worked in that town since.
To my understanding, no one ever lived in the house.
I believe it was partially finished and more work was done over time, but never occupied.
There have been different plans for it, but nothing has ever materialized.
It sits yards from a very busy road so anyone who could afford to live there would probably pass for something with more privacy and a better floorplan.
Mr. K built an independent hotel that is very similar in style and layout to the home.
So as one of the comments stated, he probably built it based on that design.
I had never seen the inside until this video, but it definitely feels like a 1970's era hotel.
It also feels like he handed the builder a sketch on a napkin and a stack of cash and said get started.
It is great to finally get a look at the inside of this quirky spot.
They lived in the house for 6 years before they lost their fortune and bank foreclosed on it.
Very poor distribution, bad location if you ask me family home, nice details, a lot of money wasted.😢

@@gwendolyn7462 Maybe, just maybe, the furniture reduced the horridness a little... The wallpaper was awful, the gold trims were awful, the medallions and chandeliers were way too plentiful and not pleasing to the eye. Everything seemed boringly repetitious and unattractive. Even the massive main bathroom was terrible and poorly designed while the other bathrooms were ugly as sin in both color and design. This was truly one of the ugliest places I have ever seen with only a few redeeming qualities which were the outside doors and windows. Only the kitchen and the library may have been somewhat attractive in their day because of the wood work. I can't help thinking everything was done poorly with little design appeal and the repetition bordered on gaudiness.
I don’t think that big room is a master bedroom. I think it’s an entertainment center. It’s not an area for a bed but may be a stage. I’m sure these people entertained a lot.

My whole house fits in that master bedroom. It is stunning. This family must have entertained a lot of people. I guess when you’re that rich you can afford a lavish lifestyle. It needs to be preserved maybe turned into a luxury hotel.
The Space in between the Outside door and the room is called, A Vestibule: "A vestibule is a small, enclosed entry chamber that traditionally has served as a buffer in winter between indoors and outdoors, to trap air and minimize heat loss. Vestibules today also help keep air-conditioned air inside and hot air outside in summer."
Big B, these are the details that I wish you would understand before you do the video. Vestibules are very common in homes in harsh climates. Hot, humid or cold, they are common.
Also sometimes called an airlock.

In New England we call it a mudroom a place to take off wet muddy snow covered clothes before gong into the main house

This place took my breath away! That master bedroom is definitely the best room of the place, followed by the indoor pool!! Just sad to see that the place is in need of renovations.
You said it was previously designed as a hotel. That's why you see the first big spaces it makes sense as a common area for guests. It still looks very splendid. Love it. Thank you for showing these amazing places.
Bathrooms and Kitchens really interest me the most. For example when you see more than 6 burners on a stove, the owners plan on large meals. The master bathroom in this mansion didn't have a shower. I found that quite odd, considering the size of the bedroom.

Much I see with all these houses, I have a smaller mansion, people pass away and I learn much from all these homes. The thing is, you lose what really means much to you, family and it all gets really messed up. I'm realizing that what really matters is gone. These episodes is going to help me in much. Your gift is helping me as I have treasures in my house. I want it to be perfect. It all is of God.

That first room is a huge foyer. The main foyer you named is not just a foyer it is a Grand Entrance. Off the master bedroom is a sitting room. Very nice. The kitchen is surprisingly simple. Completely functional but utilitarian.

I believe the master bath is constructed of ONYX cultured marble. It’s a resin molding fabrication that is poured. The marble is translucent and I believe that is what you are seeing. I don’t believe the tub and especially the toilet being hand carved marble

I know it’s been said many times, but this would make an incredible wedding venue. You could youse the master as the bridal suite, all of the guest bedrooms for the rest of the wedding party/family. The ballroom would make a great location for ceremonies and/or receptions.

i remember this was rented out for events a few times in 2009 -2010 me and my brothers would sneak in i remember using the indoor pool and taking drinks from refrigerators left from events
Those chandeliers blow my mind and those light switches! Never seen anything like those. All gorgeous marble can be repurposed as well as the cabinets etc. To need a place like that you had to have entertained a lot to have a ballroom! Loved that pink marble andthe indoor glass doors with the birds in the design!! Well done!!

Mind blowing on so many levels. You just have to wonder what type of personality would want to live in a house like that. It was an interesting explore, but as I've said I prefer the older and dusty with lots of artifacts.

It hurts my heart to see it abandoned because someone put so much of themselves and lots of money into it, but it would be super expensive to maintain but it is lovely.
Such a shame, all of these lonely, empty, houses. From front and back, minus the pool, the house brings to my mind a hospital. Imagine how cold the house would be in winter with all of that marble to try to heat. The chandeliers, switch plates, door hardware, and the wallpaper were my favorite things in this house. I was surprised that there was no shower in that master bath…and compared to the vast size of all the rooms…those guest bedrooms were extremely tiny! Beautiful place!!

When you walked around the huge room on the opposite end of the house from Master Bedroom, I was fascinated by the fireplace with the huge windows a few feet behind; that's quite unique. It first looked like someone could walk between the fireplace & the windows, but you only allowed the camera 2 quick glances of this area! I could only see there was no opening at the bottom, (so no walk-through) but I really wanted to see above that. Future videos would be much improved with less time spent on things like identical chandeliers & light fixtures (one close-up of each was sufficient) or the big wreath box then the big wreath, and more time on unique design elements! Looking for to future explorations here.
We had a huge marble mine here in Batesvile AR. I wonder if any came from here. The capital buildings have our marble

If that place was fixed up, that ballroom with bar could be a great wedding venue. Rent the space, some guests rooms, could be a great place to stay. Not sure about location but, the house is giving me that hotel kinda vibe. Could have potential.

This place is absolutely amazing, they spared no expense when they built it.
Can you imagine the staff required to maintain all that ? Chandeliers = work for cleaning..marble columns = work cleaning , etc....

In most mansions they have hiden rooms, if I had one most definitely in the book case Or wall never know some old mansions do have them. Great video loved the garden tub with poles. But with space room in that bedroom you would think that the bathroom would be huge.

The “master” bathroom, all that is acrylic material made to look like marble. Not my particular style, but for the 80s, quite elaborate!
Really reminds me of this Really old coal miner in Pennsylvania my dad use to take me to his property/ranch had a crazy 1 story house like that and he had so much land with like 7 different cabins on it, it was incredible and the best hunting I ever did. I always remember the guy telling me as a kid he was a millionaire twice and broke three times from the coal business lmao that was back when a million dollars was actually a status

I love this mansion! All the wallpapers I would have chosen myself.....I think I had some at one time or another. Pink is my favorite color and I would be in heaven. But that much in a room that's not used is....and the massive amount of floors in an expensive tile could feed a whole state. What a shame! To let something so awesome go to waste! The bed room is insane! I’d 🎉get my 10,000 steps in every day just getting from the bed to the door. Imagine being super tired and you hit the bed room door and you still have like a mile to go. I’d probably pass out on one of the couches along the way. 😅 I don’t like that there’s no windows in the Master bath. Wonder if the room with the tall narrow cabinets lining the walls was a smoking room and the cabinets were humidors for cigars.?? Looks a little narrow for a wine cellar that’s also a possibility
