You know who HASN’T ignored this games? Collectors demanding outrageous prices for copies of this game, likely due to a relatively limited release number. Capcom was very short-sighted to include Akira in the final season of SFV but not release a comprehensive collection so that people who haven’t played the games (likely because they weren’t even born or too young when the games were available) could actually get the references made in her story mode, stages, and nostalgia costumes. Hopefully they’ll rectify this mistake someday, and consider a new entry in the franchise.
Rival Schools is both criminally and largely ignored. It deserves a comeback and it also deserves an anime like Street Fighter. I still love that Akira was incorporated in the SF franchise. If Capcom ever does a crossover of SF & RS one day, I’ll be totally down for it.
Rival schools need to make a comeback... And here's two ways they can do that. A. Make a new rival schools game. Or B. Re-release the original games in a collection or do a remake of them.
I'd love a remake or reinterpretation of the original even more than a sequel. Any plot devices further from Project Justice would just feel diluted... the first is where it's at. They can always add more students of course.
They can't. Because of the way the contracts were written, CAPCOM would have to pay the vpice actors again and they don't want to. At least for the first one, Idk about Project Justice
This franchise had so much potential we will never get another Rival Schools or Project Justice entry as Capcom fighting game baby is only Street Fighter a lot of Capcom fighting games had potential and this franchise is one of them.
A "Rival Schools" Anime Series or Movie based on those 2-D Animated Cutscenes in the Japanese Version of the Game would've actually been really Awesome.
Rival Schools and Darkstalkers both could blow back up if they'd try not playing it safe so much and try something different. Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil are their money trees and they stick to them 😑
That's the dream too if they don't release a new RS game. But since they added Akira to street fighter they might as well bring my favorite character to SF as well. Akira's big bro Daigo Kazama 😤🙏🏼 Almost came true tho😔 still waiting Capcom
This was a DAMN fine fighting series back in the late 90s/early 2000s. I'm hoping for a full release one day instead of a guest character here and there.
I've found it kinda weird that Capcom didn't include this in their fighting collection. If they won't bring it back to life, someone else should. It's a shame to see this once-great franchise just gathering dust all these years.
Project Justice, Power Stone 1 & 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike were all the reasons I needed to get a Dreamcast; I still have (and play) the original system as well as the games I mentioned!
Not to mention Soul Calibur, Jojos Bizzare Adventure, Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2,Marvel vs Capcom 1, Tech Romancer, Vampire Chronicle, Plasma Sword, Virtua Fighter 3,Street Fighter 2X, Guilty Gear X, Virtual On etc so many Godlike fighting games on Dreamcast the greatest of all time console for me personally.
@@aegisreflector1239 Agree with all you've mentioned - The Dreamcast is my favorite console and I seriously think that it was a better machine than anything that was out during its time!

This game has some of the best character designs and charm it's almost criminal that this series wasn't promoted more. Edayan has done amazing job with the artwork that it baffles me why he hasn't done as much promotional work as Bengus and Shinkiro
my favorite fighting game still. I still play it monthly on my dreamcast. Also is no one gonna talk about how AKI, the new character announced for SF6 is wearing an outfit VERY similar to Kurow's from RS2?
I'll never forget when Rival Schools 3 announced at Babbage's/ Gamestop- and it was a phenomenal! Still an excellent game to this day! With all the functions of the previous gameplay plus a new 3rd fighter addition, the game was pure chaotic fun!❤ Hard to believe I got my copy for $20!!!!
That opening is so nostalgic. I rarely skipped it when I played this on the Dreamcast! Although the first opening on the Play Station is still the best because the theme song is such a banger! As Capcom is playing it safe by largely sticking to the most popular series like Street Fighter, they also prioritise the budgets on those games. This leads to the decrease in quantity (on the variety of their games, that is) and increase in quality. We rarely see any small scale games, outside of ports, from Capcom these days. While it's a good thing that their games go up in quality, it also set a certain expectation from the consumers. So if Capcom were to bring back Rival School, people are going to expect the quality on the same level as Street Fighter, which of course, Capcom would hesitate to put in as much money. So I feel that the Switch is the perfect choice for this. The console already has a massive user base and its spec is lower than current gen consoles. So if the new Rival School games were to come out on the Switch, people aren't going to have high expectation on the graphic department, so Capcom could afford to invest less on the game and still realistically expect high return. Then, if the game turned out to be a smash hit, Capcom could just port it over to the toaster and beyond like they always have done! I wish Capcom would be more experimental and made more games on the smaller scale like they did for the GBA, DS and 3DS instead of just focusing on AAA games solely. This way Switch owners can get more original Capcom games instead of lazy ports and we could end up with some new surprise hits like Phoenix Wright and such!
Thank you for this video. I believe rival schools could sell / outsell SF6 if they did a modern remake of the original game. Hell if they did a damn anime also it would be sick.
The story mode where you are locked to choosing predetermined teams reminds me of KOF94. By '95 onwards, they just let you freely choose your characters in a team which made the story and arcade modes to just blend in with no separations. I wished SNK used this idea from Project Justice by separating story mode and arcade mode.
It definitely had those similar vibes. Plus unlockable characters+ special teams had special endings too Sigh SNK, still stubborn Even their modern games lack a solid story. Most is left out as outside lore in other media.

They made SF6 with the feature that we wanted since the japanese version of Rival Schools but imagine if they bring again alive that mode in 3D like the current world tour :D
