    I LOVE the Apothecary look! I have a tall one in my living room. Now I'm trying to figure where I could put one like this. It looks great. The Vaseline tip is fantastic. This must be a fairly old video as you're not using DIY. But you were already going strong. I love seeing the progress of your success. You deserve every bit of it.

Would you consider doing a step by step video so the paint turns out with random chips big and small. How to apply glue and then how to apply paint? Thank you-I am LOVING your channel! Do you have to use gel stain to get this desired effect or can you use regular stain, minwax for example?

      Meagan Tanner you don’t have to. That’s just what I used. You could use minwax or brown paint or even spray paint. The goal is tort the contrast in colors. 👍

    Since we are going to use chalk paint does it matter if the finish is still on the dresser before painting as long as we clean it well..if we plan on doing the chippy paint? Or do we need to sand it all the way down? Will this technique work even if we are dealing with a dresser that isn't all wood?

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  6 років тому +1

      I would lightly sand it if it is a shiny/gloss finish or if you are dealing with a veneer type finish. You don't need to sand it down to the bare wood, just rough it up a little so The paint has something to hold on to.

      We use 2-3 coats on the sides, front of pieces depending on how heavy the use will be on the specific piece and 4-5 coats on things like table tops. We use polyacrylic in satin.

    Actually, I ordered some milk paint from you and I’m working on a fireplace -the wood part of the white surround that I topped with shiplap. Its all white and not distressed -yet. I think I’m going to latex paint in charcoal first as my under color. I have some already, and it’s one of the colors in my pebbles on another part of the fireplace surround.
    So is this right: ? paint with the latex under color, then lacquer, then milk paint (flour sack - with or without super bond?)) (can I use a smooth roller to paint on the milk paint?) Dry, sand off the chippies, then wax? Can I also use Vaseline resist in places or not necessary?
    Sorry for all the questions. I don’t want to mess it up. I did the surround myselfTook me forever. I did the whole wall from drywall to the finish. Looks great and beachie but no distress. Needs distress. !!!

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  4 роки тому

      That would work, just know if you go to distress latex if you sand it or it gets hot it can gum up or ball up on you instead of sanding off. I recommend wet distress if you’re using latex underneath.

    • @johnonethree
      @johnonethree 4 роки тому

      Thank you so much! So I also have some black gel stain around here. I’ll use it for the base instead. Would I need to lacquer before milk paint for chippies? Sorry to keep going with this. Lol

    what is the use of vaseline

    • @laurabarber6697
      @laurabarber6697 7 років тому

      the Vaseline makes that area so that the paint doesn't stick. Since she sprayed the paint on, the paint went onto that area- and dried-- yet when she sanded- the white paint came off very easily where the Vaseline had been applied. Just a little goes a long way with the Vaseline...just to give a lite coating . I'd make a "test" on a scrape so you can understand the technique. Hope that helps....
