    I'm interested in doing this technique with different colors. Drop me some suggestions and I might use your color combo!

      My favorite color combo is fuchsia pink and tangerine orange. I think that combo would look great with that technique. Turquoise and teal with some light greens and blues sound nice as well. But Pink and Orange are my first choice.

      Saw a magazine page with a room done in gray and yellow. Normally, neither one of those is my color, but I liked it so much I cut out the page, and plan to use it in a quilt someday. Best.

    So charming that you showed yourself trying to move it and the drawers flying off. That piece looks incredible. We live in the prairie in the States and there are a lot of old barns in this area. So romantic and yet a bit tragic at the same time. Kind of like your piece! 😉 Really love it. OMG those spiders!! Just found you so it will be fun to binge.

      Some might call it lazy. I call it being frustrated after nearly being done lol. Could I have fixed the door? Yes. Would it have taken another 2 hours? Yes. Someone will have stuff they want to put there, like you said. Thanks for checking in!

      @@ThatShabbyGuy definitely not lazy.. your work ethic is always clear to me. I felt the frustration.. I just had a piece that I got 95% done - then had some finish issues and we’ve been on an extended break ever since 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m most likely going to toss it.

    You're an artist. I actually think it looks more updated without the doors. Whoever owns it could put a basket in the middle or a cool piece of decor/art. I just love your work and your channel. I know I'm late to the game here, but hadn't seen your channel pop up in my feed for quite a while. UA-cam does that.

    Do you mostly use latex paint on your projects? I heard chalk paint is the best for furniture, and latex had a lot of problems when it comes to furniture.. but I’ve seen it both ways? Is it just a preference?

    • @ThatShabbyGuy
      @ThatShabbyGuy  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, I've used latex paints for 10 years. I tend to use them because I use a sprayer that needs the hose set into a gallon of paint and also has a lot of overspray, making $30 1 quart chalk paints less feasible for my workflow. As far as durability goes, there isnt a difference as long as you prep right. Do chalk painters still sand their pieces? Yes, some. Especially those who sell long term. I've fixed and addressed countless questions as to why their chalk painted piece was chipping and it is often because of poor prep. Chalk paint is simply latex paint with powdered chalk in it, which (some claim) allows the paint to bond better to the paint (so no sanding needed). The chalk also creates a thicker medium that can be moved around differently than thinner latex paint. Is it innovative and special in its own right? No. Is it still a great product?
      Another thing to consider is how cultish chalk paint brands can be. Some people love chalk paint (and similar paints) so much that it is THE best and they will tell everyone about it. Anyone who disagrees doesnt know how to paint furniture. It is a really strange thing that happens to mostly new people in the furniture painting niche. As you can see by the length of this reply, it is a lengthy and touchy subject to some people. I know of an instance where a UA-camr gave their honest opinion of a brand and their "fans" ganged up on his channel and social media, his business, leaving negative reviews (illegal) and the owner(s) of the company joined in on it. I can also tell you that there are several brands that act like this so... enjoy the paints you like but avoid "the cult" if you can.
      The short answer to your question: Yes. It is preference. But don't let other people tell you what is best. Try things yourself. This is my advice to anyone asking what the best paint is. I use several brands from time to time just to show other people but I will never buy just one paint brand or one type of paint and call it "the best".

    I rather like it without the doors. It makes it look less Early American style & more modern Country Chic.
