Smart Home Solver Thank you for the great ideas! I want to replace most of the lights in my home with smart lighting. I'm just not sure if I should keep all of my switches on all the time if I'm using routines and voice activation. Would it do any damage to leave all my switches on, and is there any benefit to using both smart switches and smart lights together?
Check out Uravgconsumer's smarthome videos. I think you will like them.
These ideas are great, thank you. We are planning our new smart home and these tips are the best. the best part is the different ways to turn on and off lights that make it so much better entering rooms.
Question - Can the Hue bridge take the place of Smartthings hub?
@@bquietson Yes, it's my real name. My childhood was pretty good.
@@byrnesvideos I'm pretty sure the Hue bridge is just for the lights. However, you can also connect the bridge to Smartthings to make your lights interact with your other devices.

They've gone to school right? They probably don't hear the teacher's turning on the lights with their voices every time they finish seeing something on the projector.

I love the step in all these videos about smart lights, that involve installing a new light switch :)
Great ideas... love your sense of humor 😂
Holy shhhh... I currently only have hue lights but 😧🤭 I’m blown away by all these set ups and ideas.
Hey, so I just recently purchased my first house and want to begin automating it. I was wondering, if you had to restart from scratch right now, how would you set up your house? Maybe you could do a video compiling all of your favorite products?
I see I am quite late to the party and the SwitchBot curtain is now available from their site instead of the Indigogo campaign. But I had to leave a comment to say, THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING THIS. I have an elderly parent with limited mobility who uses a long stick to move the curtains over the sliding door back and forth and it takes a lot of effort and can cause dizziness. This is a brilliant solution since she’s already familiar using Alexa for controlling the lights and using reminders. This is a game changer. I have never dropped $200 (set of 2) on something so fast in my life and I am confident that it will be worth every penny.
I love this guy’s videos!!!! Him and Paul are great! Although I would love some home kit support here, also I never miss the end clips lol

You should do a video of connecting that light to flash when someone is knocking at the door my grandmother is hard of hearing and that would come in handy to setup

I need the curtain robot to come out and be affordable.
Yes so I can scare the absolutely buh-jesus outta someone.
Bruh if you can't afford something that's 75$+ maybe you should just save your money, and keep working. 🙉
@@asole2847 What I mean by "come out" is not on Indiegogo. I have 12 windows so that's $1k plus tax and shipping only through early bird on Indiegogo. I dont trust Indiegogo because plenty of people have been screwed before. I make plenty of money and spend it wisely. I already own most of the products in this video. Thanks!
i just got the nest hello doorbell and in your video i like how your lights flash when the timer went off can they do that when some one rings the door bell to and if yes what do i need for that
this guys house is huge!
I'm a lighting/LED nerd and have had my entire home wired with RGBW bulbs+strips that I could control from both the LAN and WAN for many years. I remember in 2013 I felt like I was living in the future one time as I was hacking my light bulbs via UDP in an attempt to reverse engineer the undocumented protocol enough to create my own bash CLI for my 40 bulb 2.4ghz mesh instead of relying on the crappy hardware that came with/from the anonymous and now non-existent manufacturer. Heh. Fun Times. It was the wild west of IoT.
Anyway, I haven't paid attention to smart home things for a long time and the state of the art has really come a long way. I feel like a newb again, which is kinda fun. That being said, I want to say I very much appreciate your videos with their no-nonsense yet informative approach. There's a lot of conflicting opinions out there, but many which seem reputable on the surface boil down to ease-of-setup rather than objective functionality. It's annoying to watch a 20 minute review of hubs ecosystems only to find out the depth of their final opinion is no deeper than how easy it change the lightbulb colors. :/
Inefficiencies are annoying so I haven't actually invested in a hub yet, because I want the right one (or combination) from the start. I'm leaning towards smarthtings v2, but Home Assistant looks more DIY, which I'm attracted to, but also don't want to spend 10 hours making every task work. Ideally I'd like something easy to work with on the user level, but also something that also allows you to really dig into some code if you so choose. Do you have a video about hub ecosystem interoperability? Like which systems play well together, and which combos don't? I imagine it's a bit of a mine-field on the protocol level. What are the non-obvious technical pitfalls? That sorta thing?
Thanks again for your efforts! :)
what the fuck did you just say

If it's not too late, I highly recommend you look into hubitat. It's a really nice middle ground of being in control, yet things still work without too much hassle. That's what I'm using and I love it. It's one of the only smart home devices I've found that seems to actually be made by people who care about smart homes, not just companies using it as a buzz word for their proprietary software.
Hey great video but where is the black spotlight in your office shelf from?
Great video...wish I understood webcore but it's so complicated
Your the best
Great video! I came to learn about lights but stayed because you're funny
Awesome! Thank you for sticking around!
Can you setup Leviton smart switches to use Geofencing by using smart things?
ive had the idea of the switchbot curtain but for windows for YEARS. based on temperatures you could open and close windows. saving on heating and AC
That would be awesome!
i dont got the mind for coding but ive seen a lot of people building stuff with actuators, i bet you could make that pretty easy
You could probably do that with the SmartThings multipurpose sensor since it has a temperature sensor built in. Mount it just to the side of the window (out of direct heat/sunlight) where it will be affected by the temp change first. Or use 2, and decide how much difference you want between them before the curtains are changed.
I have a Skybell doorbell. I bought it because at the time it was the only one that didn't require me to pay them for the rest of my life for cloud storage. I know this has changed but I'm not dumping something that already works for me.
In this video you show how to turn on lights when the doorbell senses movement. I'm trying to figure this out (without IFTTT). Ideas?
I did just bought a TP-Link/Kasa switch for my outdoor light. I'm still trying to put the process together.
Thanks.
Great video! Lots of good ideas. I have a question though:
I have a Kasa smart power strip in my game room. I have some older consoles plugged in and I'm trying to achieve something similar to your TV setup. Right now I have the 6 controllable sockets hooked up to some older consoles and I just leave the physical power button on the consoles in the "On" position, and call out a command like, "Alexa, turn on the Saturn" and the power strip activates the appropriate plug, and my Nexlux bias lights come on. I'd like to be able to leave the plug powered on, and have the LED strip come on when I physically turned the Saturn on and have a Harmony routine run as well; selecting the appropriate input on the TV and stereo receiver.
I have the Kasa strip as devices in Smartthings and through Alexa, but I cannot figure out how to automate anything prompted by energy usage. My Kasa switch doesn't even show energy usage in the Smartthings or Alexa apps, but it does in the Kasa app.
Is there any hope for me and my dream, or should I continue to just leave things on and have Alexa do my bidding? I also have a Google Home mini, and Smartthings is linked with that as well.
Thanks,
Bobby
Thanks Bobby! Hmmm I'm not sure if it's possible right now. I will be at CES soon and I can talk to some of the guys at the Kasa booth and ask them. Last year it seemed like they had some engineers there so they might be able to help. I think it would be great if that worked. Currently I am just using the SmartThings outlet to pull off what you are looking to do.
This is a mad house.
Really cool video. Just one question. What's the chair you have in your office? Looks amazing.
Another awesome video, I really enjoy your sense of humor! The Home Alone clips were great!
I wanted to ask, what kind of chair is that in your office?
Thanks Tj! That's the Kinn chair from Autonomous. I'll actually be talking about it in my next video.

Watched some of your family friendly videos, good stuff keep it up! - commenting because this is the one that finally made me subscribe. many actual tips that might be useful for the common (light) smart home user. ATTENTION - LED's are not cheesy... i have now dabbled in a few different areas of my home and people have been wowed as well as myself!.. can it be gimmicky at times? yes, but operator error haha enjoy them and for the price - few (removable) purchases make such an impact!

Have fun doing these as well,

Working on Game room ideas
4:38 crazy, my friend had this some 20 years ago at home, bc both of his parents are deaf. You rang the bell and the entire living room and kitchen turned into a club.
Don't know how they did it back then, but this looks fairly simple.

Love the video. I attempted to get my back porch lights on a wyze smart plug to flash when the front door bell rang on my smart things but i could not figure it out. If you can give some tips that would be great
Thanks! What I would do is create a virtual switch for the Wyze plug and connect it using IFTTT. Then you could use webCoRE to toggle the virtual switch off and on. The main issue here is that a virtual switch won’t know if your wyze plug is turned off or on at the begging of the automation. If you always have the lights on in the back then you could just make sure they stay on.
Smart Home Solver this was the problem, I went this exact route and I actually can get the status of the switch in web core but because ifttt has a bit of a delay and sometimes loses inputs it worked about 50% of the time
That is, the lights always flashed but it was about a 50/50 chance on wether it would end in the same state as it started out.
Great product, I am honored to provide Govee with automated production equipment for LED strips.

Hello, Thank you for the amazing video, I do have a quick question I hope you can answer, Do you have a unified app to control all these different brands from your phone? or do you have an app for each brand?
Good question. I try to use SmartThings or a voice assistant like Alexa or Google to control and automate all of my lights in one place. I do have a LOT of apps on my phone because my lights don't all work in one place, mostly because I'm testing so many for this channel. The ideal is definitely to have 1 app for controlling all of the smart lights.
