What I love about this family. Is that although the state of their restaurant was horrendous they still were holding on to each other and comforting each other. They look like a very nice family, props for that.

sweets08816 I thought farmed salmon was really grey and they are colored pink so we people aren't put off by it.
Danny Vo It is grey naturally, but they feed them tinted pellets to make the meat pinker than it is naturally. You are correct about them doing it to make it more appetizing, though they cannot really fix the flavor, which is really bland compared to wild. I guess as long as someone never eats wild salmon,they can be satisfied with farmed salmon, but once you have had real coho or sockeye salmon (which has the really dark colored flesh ), the farmed stuff just doesn't taste right. There are some wild salmon that is paler, like chinook, but they still have the great texture and buttery flavor that farmed salmon is just missing. It is so expensive though (farmed is expensive enough, but wild salmon is insane)...

I mean, I found it kinda sad because I'm a mannequin collector. But at the same time the stand was broken and I'm pretty sure Gordon severely broke her too. However that could have been easily fixed. They didn't need to destroy her, they could have given her away to someone who works with clothing and actually needs mannequins.

Update - The reviews for The Old Neighborhood Restaurant are definitely mixed with people liking the makeover and complaining about service and expensive prices. It seems like Alexa adjusted Gordon Ramsay's menu to add some more items on it, but she didn't go back to the old menu.
The fact that The Old Neighborhood Restaurant is already for sale pretty much confirms that the restaurant is not faring so well. This restaurant will be one to watch and it may end up closing soon.
UPDATE - The Old Neighborhood closed for good in April 2016. They posted the following message on their Facebook Page - "It’s official, after 36 years of business we have sold the restaurant and will be closing our doors on Sunday, May 1st. We want to thank everyone for your continued support and love over the years. Although it will be a big change in our lives, we are excited to see what the future holds. Come visit us one last time and say goodbye! We will be open our normal business hours which are Friday and Saturday 11AM-9PM and Sunday Brunch 10AM-2PM and Sunday Dinner 3:30PM-8PM. We hope to see everyone!"

I think this is one of the better episodes to highlight just how difficult it is to run a restaurant.
The decor maintenance itself is a big pain.
It´s why fancy places are so expensive. They are generally well kept, have great service and fantastic food. And all of that takes enormous effort.

This is the best makeover they've done so far in the show. Some makeovers have been absolutely horrific, but this one looked just amazing. All imo, of course :)

Honestly, I’m shocked at how well the relaunch was. Almost every episode has the owners fight the changes Ramsey makes, but these guys embraced the changes with ease!
All I've really learned from these episodes is that the US needs to step shit up when it comes to health inspections of restaurants...

How the hell did that place pass a health inspection. All restuarants here are visied at least once a year by the local health dept. A restuarant like this was at first they would have shut it down immediately.

D J Mack Not that uncommon. I used to work in a commercial chocolate factory. Once or twice a year I'd find bugs crawling through our coconut or chocolate. Even though pest control came once a month, there was always lots of health/safety issues. if people knew what happened behind the pass through... there wouldn't be business there much longer.
But it's there in a lot of restaurants and pubs. Plenty of stories to tell.
Hate to say it, but American standards are very low. Most health inspection stuff is about paperwork.

99% of that shit was garbage. There was maybe one or two pieces of any worth there, they had two trucks, one for storage one for garbage and they didn't show what they put in the storage truck.
They could have got a couple of hundred just selling the items at a swap meet just selling for 50 cents or 1 or 2 dollars an item would have been better than nothing

Did you know. The Old Neighborhood Restaurant was up for sale when this episode was filmed in July 2013. After the episode aired, the owners increased the asking price too $775,000. The owners eventually sold the restaurant and closed their doors on 1 May 2016.
