If gordon came in and sat down to eat I'd cancel my order and leave or if I already had the food I'd not eat it/stop eating it, pay, and leave. If he's there then likely the restaurant is grade A garbage and probably going to be on kitchen nightmares
I think that for his newer shows like 24 hours to hell and back (which is the modern equivalent of kitchen nightmares) he goes undercover so people don't recognize him but if I did I would freak out for sure
Fixing failing restaurants is just a means to an end to Kitchen Nightmares. Making tv shows that sell is the number one goal here. Drama sells. Viewers love watching other people's problems and misery. I love this show, too. The combination of tough love gradually turning into a feel good show works surprisingly well, I think.
I'm not American so i dont know how it work there but here in Canada we have health inspector that visit restaurants on regular basis to make sure that kitchens are always clean and that the food is fresh.
Same in Denmark, and we have a report on the door, or at least somewhere visible, so all customers know what problems have been going on. They come unexpected too, so it's not about having a bad day either, they could show up one day out of nowhere, and truthfully, the day after. If something has been found, that isn't supposed to be there, they'll also fine the owners.
and in Europe we have a system called HAACP, which every food farmers/butchers, etc. every restaurant/hotel/motel etc. has to follow, it's basically a daily checked system of everything that you have to do. We can also follow produces through their whole journey, so we can analyze where did the problem happen. also we have GHP (Good Hygiene Protocol) which ensures that every surface is cleaned with appropriate things to kill all the bacteria on it.
also, I really doubt that health inspectors would "make sure" that the food is fresh. they don't do that, it's none of their business. They only have to make its sure not cross contaminated, and everything is in "order", like cutting boards for ex. have to be colored to what we can chop on it - fish, blue vegetables/fruits - green meat - red general purpose is white, but white can also be meat
Update: J Willy’s BBQ closed on February 4th 2009, which was less than a year after the J Willy’s Kitchen Nightmares episode aired on TV (and almost exactly a year after the actual visit from Gordon Ramsay). Unfortunately, Gordon Ramsay’s changes weren’t enough to save the restaurant. I think Gordon Ramsay knew the chances weren’t good, because he only said that the restaurant had a “glimmer of hope” at the end of the episode. That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement from Gordon Ramsay of the business’s future prospects! Honestly, no matter what Gordon Ramsay did, I don’t think J Willy’s BBQ House ever had a chance to overcome its massive debt.

As someone who's lived an hour away from south bend my whole life, I never knew this place existed back then
Gordon came in hot for this one! Buffalo on the carpet. Asking the random Father to bless his food. Classic!
Are we just going to ignore the irritating customer who just waltzes into the kitchen like she owns the place just to tell the owner that the business will fail and that she’s leaving???

Honestly, Gordon Ramsay is so good at teaching us how to spot when a restaurant is failing, and recognizing that it's usually failing for good reasons.

I showed this to my wife, who will not eat pizza without ranch to dip it in. She’s even passed this trait on to my kids whom I endearingly coined “sauce monsters”

Gordon Ramsay lessons:
1. Have a head chef
2. No pictures on menus
2.5 In fact, cut like half the menu
3. No delusion
No microwave in the kitchen or frozen food. And make the decor not look like an old persons home
0. High modern standards
4. Work together as a team
5. Give satisfaction to customers
2.2 Menu has got to have a fitting theme
Restaurant falls down because of earthquake
Owners: John did this.
(Titanic hits iceberg)
God dammit John
Ranch is actually a great accompaniment/addition to pizza. It's just that you need to be able to make a decent pizza first.
Feel like it's the case with a lot of things tbh, Pizza with Madras or something would be nice provided it was good quality

So many of these restaurants also suffer from poor front of house control. If they staggered seating and put tables on a short wait it would prevent the kitchen from getting overwhelmed
If you’re an adult crying over a food order you should be dining at Chuck E. Cheese

What Happened Next at J Willy's? (Closed)
In the weeks that followed they kept Gordon's changes. They won first prize at the College Football Hall of Fame ribs cook-off with their signature barbecue sauce. Yelp reviews after filming are mixed. J Willy's closed on 4th February 2009. With food prices increasing and customers decreasing, they had the choice of cutting the quality or closing. A coffee shop opened in its place but this also closed. The building was demolished in 2015. Rick and Tricia also closed their restaurant Damon's Grill and Rick is now working in restoring and selling classic cars. J Willy's aired on October 30 2008, the episode was filmed in February 2008 and is Kitchen Nightmares season 2 episode 5.UR WELCOME

Thanks for the updates, I think most go under. It's too east to do a scrappy job.
All the remodeling just to get demolished 😮

*Rick stubs his foot*
"That's John's fault"
And he is probably right
Someone’s already commented this before but could you imagine if you were eating out and Gordon came in. I wouldn’t know how to react? Laugh or cry??
If gordon came in and sat down to eat I'd cancel my order and leave or if I already had the food I'd not eat it/stop eating it, pay, and leave. If he's there then likely the restaurant is grade A garbage and probably going to be on kitchen nightmares
I would start looking for cameras or if he talks to the owners or himself. If not, then everything is fine.
@@schrottinator very true
I think that for his newer shows like 24 hours to hell and back (which is the modern equivalent of kitchen nightmares) he goes undercover so people don't recognize him but if I did I would freak out for sure
Start praying he's come back to visit the restaurant for one of those special episodes they do every now and then.
This restaurant, and almost all others covered have closed within a year of the show.
I’m happy the servers were holding ALL owners accountable instead of just John. The other owners not showing any accountability was sad by itself
I'm not American so i dont know how it work there but here in Canada we have health inspector that visit restaurants on regular basis to make sure that kitchens are always clean and that the food is fresh.
At least to make sure the food won't kill you.
There’s a lot that can go wrong between visits, and a lot that can be hidden.
and in Europe we have a system called HAACP, which every food farmers/butchers, etc. every restaurant/hotel/motel etc. has to follow, it's basically a daily checked system of everything that you have to do.
Update:
J Willy’s BBQ closed on February 4th 2009, which was less than a year after the J Willy’s Kitchen Nightmares episode aired on TV (and almost exactly a year after the actual visit from Gordon Ramsay).
Yup they were already too gone, it I hope they took this info to their other restaurant, and other restaurants follow suit on suggestions
The big liability was John Willy.
Wasn’t bbq
And here I was going to say that John proved that Karen who waited for two hours wrong...DAMMIT ;-;
